Menus: Widescreen versus Standard (or both?)

Hi everyone -- was wondering if there was any standard practice (or sage advice) for handling DVD Menus so that they display "nicely" on both 16:9 and 4:3 displays (without letterboxing or "black siding" either one)?
I played with two ideas:
1. Using a script to select between two entirely seperate menus: one 16:9 the other 4:3. Downside: have to duplicate all my menus and manage the scripting -- seems a bit painful.
2. Use a 16:9 menu system and have it Pan-Scan for 4:3 displays. Downside: not sure if this is a good idea (is this what people normally do?) and I'm not sure what sort of "safe zones" I should be using to make sure the text appears in both areas.
Does any one have a better solution or can point me to where I can learn more? Thanks!

I understand what you said about create the menu in PS as a 4:3 and after bring it to a template in 16:9, then using this way I'll have the buttons in the same place but the only different will be that I'll have more space on the left and on the right, Is that right?
That's right !
1 - Should I select 16:9 Panscan in the Display Mode of the menu inspector even if the videos are all 4:3?
The Menus Display Mode don't affect at all your tracks display mode.
2 - If the videos are 4:3 should I to leave in the Track inspector / Display mode 4:3 or 16:9 PanScan?
You must use 4:3 display mode for such video tracks and 16:9 letterbox for 16:9 ones. NEVER use pan&scan in your video tracks.
Hope that helps !

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard on both of my computers.
Some time ago, one crashed my computer and I had to reinstall the operating system and all applications.
After I had installed once Acrobat 9 Sdt in the computer, I wanted to update the software version 9.0.0 update to the same level as it was before the crash and that the other computer has version named 9.5.5.
The system for update from version 9.0.0 does not work at all. "There are no updates" listed in the dialog.
Can you advise how I get my Adobo Acrobat 9 Standard (Version 9.0.0) could be updated to the same level as the computer had before the crash.

  • Using widescreen and standard screen in one project.

I am making a film and just found out that about a quarter of the footage was taken in widescreen while the rest in standard. I would prefer to keep all of the footage in standard. Any ideas on how best to adjust the widescreen footage without distorting its quality?
    Thanks.

If the widescreen footage was shot in standard definition eg on a DV camera set to "widescreen" mode then you will unfortunately lose a little quality. This can't be avoided as you need to blow out the letterbox and crop some of the image to get it back to 4:3. Just drop the widescreen footage into your 4:3 timeline, double click the clip (in the timeline) to load it into the Viewer window, then switch to the Motion tab and set the Scale value to 134%. That will produce whats called a 4:3 Center Cut version of you widescreen clip. For best results you;ll probably want to reframe each of these clips to esure none of the important action is lost through cropping.
If the widescreen footage was shot in high definition eg on an HDV camera, then there should be quality hit perceivable in the SD project (because the HD source already has more than enough pixels to compensate for the rescale ). Just drop the 16:9 footage into the 4:3 timeline as before, but this time increase the Scale to 67% and reframe as needed.

  • Cloud Licensing - Can Adobe Acrobat 9.0.0 Standard / Professional both be used on Windows RDS 2012 R2?

We have users that share a remote desktop server, Windows 2012 R2.
We use Adobe Acrobat 9.0.0 standard and professional.  Is there a conflict in software or legality for allowing our users both these programs simultaneously on the remote Cloud server?  Thanks!

You should probably ask to Adobe, but as license states: "You must have a valid Acrobat software license for every computer that has access to Acrobat software."
Because you predeploy this SW to these devices without user intervation, you must sign in to Adobe Runtimes / Reader Distribution License Agreement.

  • Moving average and standard price both maintained

    Hi,
I have maintained both moving average price and standard price in material master, price control is V
is there any impact of standard price any where in the system.
    Regards,
    Ali

    Hi,
The system considers only the price maintained in price control V or S.So Which ever price is maintained it will consider only that. As an example if you maintain price control as S and give standard price, So when you do GR against PO with different prices, You can see that system even calculates moving avg price for statistical purpose and same can be seen in material master. For for the transaction purpose only standard price will be considered.

  • Custom versus standard workflows

    Hello All,
I would like to know how do we come to know whether a workflow is standard or custom workflow.
I.e I would like to list the list of Standard workflows versus list of custom workflows. (There exists some table like WF_ITEM_TYPES).
Also how can we know list of standard workflows which were customized.
    Please let me know.
    Kind regards,
    Kumar.

    Hi,
The easiest way to tell whether an item type has been customized or not would be to use a simple text comparison tool. Download the item type from the database and save it. Then open the original .wft file that ships with the product and compare the two files.

  • Oracle 10g enterprise versus standard

    Hi There!
    Please a question:
I need to explain a customer why it's better to install the oracle 10g enterprise edition than the standard.
I founded on metalink Doc ID: Note:271886.1: the different features BUT I founded that both includes the
Oracle Enterprise Manager Console!!!! So that's contradict the fact that you can have the inteligent tunning pack or others feature.
Is the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console the same in both versions?
Which added value I get on installing the enterprise edition instead of the standard?
    MANY THANKS!!!!!, Marcelo.

    Zaffer Khan,
thanks for your prompt answer but it does not really help me :(. I have no doubt about the power of EE and EM Grid Control in large enterprises, but when the customer wants to start small and grow as his business grows is hard to convince him about all the nice features of EE. That is why we are starting with SE1 and in the future the customer might upgrade if necesary.
Right now with all the international environment (see the credit crunch) everybody is much more careful in spending their IT budgets so the licensing costs are taken very seriously in consideration. In the same time they want to fully follow the rules and to use only the software they are paying for. But unfortunately I did not find anywhere a description of the functionalities in EM DBConsole that can be used in SE & SE1.
In the same time I do not understand why the functionalities that are not licensed are not disabled / hidden. It would make everybody's life much simpler :).
    Thanks,
    Florin

  • Widescreen or Standard setting???

If I am making a iDVD photo slideshow and I am not sure if the person will watch it on a widescreen TV or regular 32 inch TV which aspect ratio should I use? Widescreen (16:9) or Standard (4:3)? If I select widescreen will it get cut off if they watch it on a regular 27 or 32 inch tube TV (not flat screen)???
Also, what is the best theme to use for just a regular photo slideshow of my photos with music?

It's true that standard def 4/3 if dead but it's good to think of what type of viewing will be done. I recencty created a slideshow presentation that I used a digital projector to project on a large wall space for a 50th anniversary party. It was projecting from a DVD player. I did the project in 4/3 and it projected using the full space instead of a letter box effect which made it have more of a movie viewing feel for my audience of 150 people. They liked it so much that I receive a $100 tip. Also many of my older clients have Large 4/3 TVs and are not very HD knowledgeable so don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. So think in terms of what will make for the best viewing experience for your intended audience.

  • High School highlight video (Widescreen or standard)

I am making a high school football highlight video for college recruiters. The capture video is widescreen. Should I convert it to a 4:3 project or leave it 16:9. I am not sure if they will be using widescreen televisions.

If the footage is already in widescreen, then keep it in widescreen. If they have a widescreen TV, great. If they don't no harm-no foul. Also, football is a sport that lends itself to widescreen viewing and you can cover more of the field with less wasted space, aka, no useless crowd above or below the field of play. Keep it widescreen, just make sure the DVD you make is an anamorphic DVD so that if they do have a widescreen TV that your video won't appear in the middle of a black frame.
    Good luck,
    -Brian

  • PAL versus NTSC will both play in a US blu-ray player/HDTV?

I'm sure I could test this and find out, but I'm sure someone has a quick answer.  If my assets are 720 X 576 I have heard that Encore re-sizing will create some quality issues.  Would I be better off just editing this in Premiere Pro and Saving in the same 720 X 576 format, burning it to a 25 gb Blu-Ray disk in Encore and then playing it in my Blu-Ray player as is, or would this not work and the asset would have to be re-sized to 720 X 480?

    Hi.
    A few things.
1 - PAL BluRay is frankly a mess. you cannot use 25p, only 50i and support is sporadic as it just is not in the BluRay specs.
2 - For universal BluRay, you must use either 60i, 30p or 24p for it to work on US/Japanese players.
3 - 720x576 is not BluRay spec - it is SD. Whilst you can use 720x576, it is not recommended as few players will cope with this.
You definitely do not want to scale this (upres) in Encore. Or PPro. It will look like a dogs dinner.
4 - Converting from PAL to NTSC involves more than scaling - the frame rate has to be altered from 25 to 29.97 (30 actually, but we're not talking about timecodes & drop/non drop frame counts now )
It needs to be done properly - Jeff Bellune has a superb tutorial on acheiving this with open source software at http://bellunevideo.com/tutlist.php
    Hope this helps

  • Built-in Single Issue (Pro) versus standard Single Edition

    Hi all,
I'm hoping you can clarify something for me.
I'm considering using DPS for a client in the tourism sector.  They want to produce a freely available area guid as part of one of their promotional campaigns.  DPS ticks a lot of the boxes for what we want to do, but the Single Edition flavor is a non-runner as it is available on iPad only.
What I ideally want to achieve is a digital pub that runs as would a native application (á la Singe Edition) but it needs be available at least for the iPad /and/ iPhone, and very preferably other platforms also.  I want to know can this be achieved via a Built-in Single Issue custom viewer created with a Professional subscription?  Would such a viewer launch immediately into the publication and avoid the newstand-type screen you get with multi-folio apps?
    -Ronan

I don't believe there's a way to do what you want, since Single Edition is only supported on iPad at the moment. The single issue custom viewer in Professional is the same thing as Single Edition.

  • OPM - Lot Costing versus standard Costing

Is there a flag on the item master or elsewhere that tells me whether an item is lot costed?

    Dear Neil,
For externally processed operations/products, you have to maintain Purchase Info Record by selecting
the radio button for Sub-contracting using T code ME11 and you will be maintaing the processing cost in
this Info record. So this will be picked automatically by the system and ensure for that particular
operation(externally processed) the control key should be PP02.
So after doing all these, check once again in CKW1.
    Check & Revert back.

  • Audio lost when converting from standard to widescreen

I have been working on an iMovie project for about two  weeks and just noticed that there was an option for widescreen vs standard mode.  I read through the instructions and it said that one can convert to widescreen at any time in a project. I converted to widescreen and when I did I seem to have lost 2/3 of the audio in the clips. But its strange because the clips are clearly there - the ducking still works, the audio clip title are there, but there's no sound. I am hoping that there's a simply fix and that I don't need to reconstruction the movie.  HELP! Please.
    Thanks
    David Trachtenberg, Berkeley, Californai

I resolved the issue.  I googled the issue and the answer was right there. Turns out that one audio clip (out of dozens in the project) was somehow corrupted. A small yellow triangle was the indication.  Once I deleted that clip all of the other audio came back into the project.  I simply pasted a fresh version of that audio clip into the project and the all was not lost.

  • Widescreen/Standard 4:3

I burnt a project that is being played on a mini dvd player. My problem is images of people appear fatter then they actually are, it's kind of flattening the image I guess I can say?
Is this a setting that should be changed with Widescreen and Standard 4:3? What should it be?
    Thanks,
    Damien

It sounds like there could be a menu setting change needed in your DVD player to switch from 16:9 to 4:3
