Mercury GPU acceleration worse then software acceleration :(

I have to date the latest Premiere, and the latest Nvidia drivers..
Two GTX 580 cards and a Intel i7 4930k.
The timeline I'm having uses loads of warp stabelizers, AVCHD footage and heavy speedgrade looks with masks and five primarys.
The gtx cards works sweall with Neat video nois, to make that clear (13,5fps on 32bit full 1080p)
With lumetri engine, it drops frames, it only plays perfectly when I turn of Cuda...! (on heavy looks)
And I get export errors on the warp stagelizer in export unless I turn of Cuda?!
Is it a bad Nvidia driver? Should I use a legacy one?
Thanx grabs and gals!

From other comments around here ... the  "Lumetri Looks engine" and warp-stabilizer do participate in far more than their fair share of playback problems, masks can load the graphics processors too ... oft only "solved" by turning off Cuda or OpenCL with whatever card is there. There've been some folks with mighty expensive aproved Quadro cards .. who get better render times software only. They wasn't too pleased, of course ... and noting you've got two cards ... wishing you all the best ... but everyone's mileage varies these days. Sometimes good, sometimes ... not so.

  • Play issue with Mercury GPU

Premiere 5.5 chugging with Mercury GPU on. This started when adding Kona LHe+ In Out card.
It may be I just don't have the computer power.
    HP xw8600
    Nvidia Quadro 4800
    8 gigs ram
When playing sequence 720p with P2 footage and Dynamic Link After Effects compositions and a yellow reference line the system chugs and shows down. I thought the system would analyze and request a render. If I turn the Mercury engine to software I get red reference lines, after rendering sequence plays well.

Hardware acceleration will keep your Dynamically Linked comps yellow, even though they may be very difficult to play.  This is normal.  If you need smooth playback of comps inside of PP, you'll have to render the sequence they're in using the "Render Effects in Work Area" command under the Sequence menu.

  • Disable Mercury GPU to avoid crashing

    Hi,
I just upgraded Première to CC and installed Prelude CC.
Première crashes whenever I try to display a H264 clip (from Canon 70D), when I have Mercury GPU acceleration enabled. When I disable it, all it fine.
Prelude just crashes when I try to display a clip, because I can't find a way to disable GPU acceleration.
--> Is there a way to disable GPU acceleration in Prelude?
--> Is this a known Mercury incompatibility with my OS/card that will be solved soon?
    I'm on a iMac with 10.8.52 7", quad core i7, 16Gb ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB.
    Thanks!
    Sander.

    Hi Sander,
    Thanks for your post!
For #1, Prelude already had the same feature with Premiere Pro in the coming release - enable/disable GPU acceleration.
For #2, I have not seen this issue but I would try this on my test machine to see what will happen, later I will give you an update about this.
    Thanks,
    Jenny

Why is my battery life worse following software update?

    Dont Bother Audre
If you have updated to 6.1.1 and your phone is outside the warrenty perios, then you WILL have issues, so you take your phone to Apple and they will give you a replacement for £139 and they will also say its much cheaper what you paid for your handset!!!!
Just wait for the next update - If they have a heart and care for the 4s users, they will fix the battery issue too

  • HT4623 in trying to update my new ipad, i follow directions of settings- general-then software updates.  Mine has no software updates listed.  How do I proceed?

I am trying to update my new ipad and in following the directions of "settings"- "general"- then software update, there is no software update listed.  How do I proceed to update?  Many games for my kids need at least ios.5.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.0.4. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
You can no longer update to iOS 6.x, or down grade the iOS.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.
     Cheers, Tom

Update it as described in this article; devices running an iOS version prior to 5.0 can't be updated straight from the device and must be updated from iTunes on a computer. It will be updated to the newest iOS release supported by the device’s hardware, which is iOS 7.0.4 for an iPhone 4.

  • Toshiba 32RL958 - Overall picture quality worse after software update

Is there any way to install previous version of firmware on Toshiba 32RL958?
I need back from 7_0_28_16_1-b to 6.9 or even install new firmware for this model

Can you describe what happened to the picture quality? I opened [this Thread|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=77852|Toshiba 32RL958 - Overall picture quality worse after software update] regarding crippled pictures on TL838 after the latest firmware upgrade.
I'm having the phenomenom that video from HDMI input is broken and at the moment it looks as if 1080p/60Hz is affected. (Switching to 50Hz on a device that supports frequency changing helped.) Also the TV overlay menus are broken when using HDMI. Normal cable TV seems unaffected.

  • Nouveau GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon

    Hi,
I'm running current Arch on Lenovo W700 which comes with NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M. I configured X using nouveau without problems. I just had to add nouveau to MODULES in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, so keymap and console fonts are not reset after loading udev.
Unfortunately, I'm experiencing the well-known annoying problem: every time I reboot or shut down, GPU locks up:
[drm] nouveau 000:01:00.0: GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon
    Here is screenshot.
I searched the forum and it seems there is no one best solution that simply works.
Some mention installing NVIDIA drivers helps, so suggest to switch to nv and downgrade X.
As far as I know, FX 2700M is implemented by nvidia-173xx driver which is no longer supported, apparently.
Is it really that bad and no reliable solution is known?
What about GPU Lockup Recovery For The Nouveau Driver announced on Phoronix in April 2012.
Has anyone monitored development of those fixes and know if they made it into upstream?
Does it mean it's worth trying git version of the nouveau driver? (By the way, where to learn how to build nouveau for Arch?)
UPDATE: A week ago, NVIDIA released New NVIDIA Driver 310.40 which provided support for the FX2700M card. Has anyone tested it yet?

I've switched from nouveay to nvidia 313.26-1 and X automatic configuration works well.
No GPU lockup on shutdown, but reboot prints these final messages and hangs for 2-3 minutes, before actually restarting the system:
    All DM devices detached.

    [27.372776] Restarting system.
It also seems fan is speeding up at this point.
Would anyone have any idea why final stage of rebooting hangs for several minutes?

  • Preview slower with hardware GPU acceleration enabled than software only?

Sorry if this had been asked before.
But somehow my preview/playback was slower and choppy once I enable the hardware GPU acceleration(I mean I select the 'mercury playback engine gpu acceleration' under Project-Settings-General')
I followed the following tips to enable my graphic card, (thanks David)
    http://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/PremiereCS5.htm
I was working on a clip of approx 3 mins long with majority of the footage(1920 and 720) from a DSLR, some 1920 clips from gopro hd2 and some 1440 clips from a P&S camera(scale to 1920 to match the sequence setting). main effects applied (magic bullet looks).
Before I enabled my graphic card and selected it from the project setting, the preview was ok, nearly smooth all the way except some sections with dynamic links, but once I turn it on, the preview became ridiculously choppy, I couldn't believe my eyes, so I turned it off (select mercury playback engine software only), did playback again, it became much smoother!(or just as smooth as it was when it was under that setting, it's just that comparison gave me a bad impression of my hardware gpu acceleration).
btw: I'm running on a low spec laptop
    Core™ i7-2670QM 2.2GHz turbo to 3.1GHZ
    8GB DDR3 memory
    NVIDIA GeForce 555M 1GB graphics
    750G HDD(I partition to 150G system drive and 600G media drive) 5400RPM (I know, it's slow)
currently have about 80G and 400G empty space on two drives respectively.
15.6” HD display (max resolution 1366x768)
I know the machine is not a proper workstation to work with CS6, but the hardware gpu acceleration was slower than the software only gpu acceleration was beyond my understanding, not a minor difference we are talking about, it was much much slower!
    Have I done something wrong?
    Any tips would be appreciated.

    Here's my guess.
MB Looks runs on the GPU at all times, though not in the same way as Adobe's 'accelerated' effects.  With CUDA off, the graphics card was free to process the Looks effects at full speed.  With CUDA on, PP took some of those resources and Looks processed slower.
Remove Looks and replace it with PP's native accelerated effects and you'll see what all the hoopla is about.

  • Artifacts with Mercury GPU Acceleration.

    Hello there,
I hope someone will be able to help me with a problem that has just started to occur on my PC.
I have Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3). When I have the renderer switched to "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration" in project settings all my clips at 50fps playback with a green flickering line and blocky artifacts at the top of the frame. When GPU acceleration is switched off the problem is less noticable but there is still a line of pixels at the top of the frame that glitches. The artifacts are present when playing clips in the viewer as well as in the timeline.
I am in the middle of a music video which uses a lot of slow motion and until a few days ago this problem did not exist although playback was sometimes choppy and had crashed a couple of times recently. I have 6gb RAM and am editing native 720p footage from a canon DSLR. Clips shot at 25fps in 1080p playback without issues either with GPU off or on.
My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 and the drivers are fully up to date.
Please help me out if anyone knows what the issue could be.
    Thanks very much
    Dan

    >GeForce GTX 285 and the drivers are fully up to date
I think you should not use an nVidia driver any later than 296.10
    Do NOT use 306.97 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1084197
When you install 296.10 be sure to NOT select auto-update

  • Mercury GPU Acceleration problem

I have ATI RADEON HD 6750M and Mercury acceleration is greyed out. I'm running 10.6.8. Does anyone have a fix?

Mercury acceleration works only with certain NVidia graphics cards, other than in one or two specific Macs.
So the answer is to buy a new NVidia graphics card - preferably one on the list of approved cards, which Adobe publishes in their information about Premiere Pro.
It is possible to make almost any NVidia card work with Premiere Pro - provided that it has at least 1 GB of memory.  There is a simple, well publicised "hack" in which you add the name of your card to a list in a Premiere file in your "C:\Project FilesAdobe\Premiere Pro CS6" folder.
Oops, sorry!  I have just realised from your post that you must be referring to a Macbook!  In which case forget my second and third paragraphs.
Check the list of Macbooks which do offer Mercury acceleration.  If yours is not on the list, I am afraid that at the moment you cannot get the acceleration.

  • CS6 and GPU fix for MPE hardware acceleration

The problem of this hack not working has been covered in a number of discussions so why raise it again. The solutions that resolved others problems are not working for my card! Tough luck I guess.
My card is the ASUS Radeon HD 7950 CU2 3GD5 V2 and everything I have read says by doing the hack (card name in the opencl txt file) CS6 should offer hardware acceleration for the MPE.
I have the latest drivers from AMD and am using windows 8.1 but GPUsniffer still does not recognise my card. I have tried various forms of the cards name in the txt file, still no luck.
I've posted this because I have run out of ideas to try - any suggstions would be welcome. I have even reinstalled CS6 but no luck. Photoshop sees my card ok!!!!! I feel sure it is something simple that is not set correctly or perhaps the order in which things should be updated/installed. Any suggestions short of signing up for CC rental would be welcome!

Formally I believe these two responses to be correct - Adobe do not officially support my card in Premiere pro CS6. My understanding from many web discussions is that the "not so secret hack" (phrase used by an Adobe employee) can be used but they do not provide official support.
Assuming I am correct I am still left wondering what else to try.
