Mercury Playback GPU acceleration in CS5.5 not available, Mercury Playback Software only available

Getting a warning screen each time I open an existing project in PP CS5.5 that says GPU acceleration is not available on my system...when it has always in the past. Editing on a HP Z400 with the NVidia Quadro 2000. I can't figure out how to get GPU acceleration going again. The software only option makes for a painfully slow and clunky edit. Any ideas are gladly welcomed. Hot and heavy deadlines looming...you all know the drill. The warning window I get reads "This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration, which is not available on this system. Mercury Playback Engine Software Only will be used." And there is only an "okay" button to close the window. Also when I try to start a new project GPU Acceleration option is not accessible...defaults to the software setting and it's grayed out.

Hi Joe,
Have you updated your video drivers lately? Any OS updates?
Thanks,
Kevin

I'm attempting to render out a moderately complex sequence. Raw footage was dslr h.264 MOV files. 30fps 1920x1080 from canon. It has some clips that are pulled from multi-cam sequences and a few that have warp stabilizer applied. 4 total audio tracks with some linked comps from audition. Whole thing is about 14 minutes. It should be noted that I render out similar sequences regularly without issue. However on this occasion whenever I tried to render out using media encoder ( for web h.264 MOV 720 30fps) I was getting an error at the same clip every time. Error Compiling Movie: Unknown Error. So I checked out the clip. It was one of the ones with warp stabilize. I turned that off and sent it out again. Render got further this time but hit a different clip with warp stabilize (after getting through like 2 other clips with warp stabilize enabled) and gave me the same error. I tried getting rid of cache files, saving to a local drive instead of a network drive, uninstalling and re-installing premiere even. (which btw if you check remove preferences then reinstall it def still has preferences so that's a total load.) Anyway I was doing some forum surfing and found several people going all the way back to PP 5.5 saying that the only solution they found was to turn off the Mercury Playback GPU acceleration. Tried that and it's currently rendering just fine but taking roughly 4X longer than with acceleration. The GPU acceleration is a big deal for me since our company relies on putting out a lot of volume quickly. Has anyone else experienced this problem and is it something you were able to fix without turning off GPU acceleration. Grateful for your input.

sorry I actually wrote that wrong. I am using the H.264 setting 720 30fps to create a web friendly .mp4. Alternately though I decided to watch and see if it was the same clip failing every time. It is. I went into the project and did a match frame for the offending clip. Dragged the a new version of the same content onto the timeline and copied the warp stabilize effect onto the new version. Well this time the encode got past the clip with the issue, however the next clip it hit with warp stabilize caused another error compiling movie: unknown error. I guess at this point my options are to turn off the GPU acceleration and wait for a render that takes more than 3x as long to render with software only, or to go through the whole timeline and replace the clips with warp stabilize (there are a bunch, the shooter wasn't having a great day on glidecam). Not a great solution on either end. Please let me know if I should file this as a bug report. Though it seems people have been having the same issues since version CS5.5

  • Issues with Mercury Engine GPU acceleration and stills

Hi folks, recently made the switch to CS6 Creative Cloud and for the most part I am loving Premiere Pro CS6 except I am having one major issue. I've got a early 2011 Macbook Pro with the 1GB AMD Radeon HD 6750M video card and 16GB of RAM and I am using Lion 10.7.4. Mercury Engine GPU mode works great on this machine (fast timeline renders, accelerated effects, quick exports) except whenever I try to use a still image on the timeline. It doesn't matter if it's a JPG, TIFF, PSD, or anything else. It also doens't matter what the size of the image is either. As soon as I drop a still on the timeline the responsiveness of the entire program starts to grind to a halt. Parts of the timeline that were playing back soomthly (in GPU or software mode) now can barely play at 10-15 fps.
I don't have this issue in Software Mercury Playback mode (I just loose all the benefits of the GPU acceleration).
If I switch back to Software Mode, delete the previews and restart Premiere things go back to working well in software mode.
I'm working on projects with Canon DSLR footage (1080P 30fps) and I am working off of a fast RAID 0 hard drive set-up.
If anyone has any advice on how I can actually use the amazing GPU mode I would be most grateful.
    thanks
    Daniel

  • Mercury Playback GPU Acceleration stopped working after update

I just updated all my Adobe Software for the first time since getting my new workstation, and my Mercury GPU acceleation no longer works (software only). I am running a GTX 670 (driver version 9.18.13.697) and Premiere Pro 64-bit (version 6.0.3).
Any suggestions? It litterally happened in the middle of a project just today and I'm stumped.

  • Does the new gpu acceleration in illustrator not support the GTX 750ti?

We have a brand new computer with a Nvidia GTX 750ti in it but we can't get Illustrator to recognize it for GPU acceleration.

    Nvidia GTX 750ti is supported.
Illustrator currently support single GPU card with upto 2 displays connected. Could you please check if you are using more than two displays or more than one GPU driver/card?

  • 2D GPU acceleration for Linux Reader 8 (when it will be available)?

It would be nice if Adobe Linux Reader 8 could use "2D GPU Acceleration" in Linux too. It could be done using OpenGL driver. Nvidia Linux Geforce driver has support for shader technology in Linux too. ATI also uses its own accelerated OpenGL library in Linux.
Will Adobe make Linux Reader 8 with 2D GPU acceleration?

What a pity. Adobe reader is very slow even on fast machines when compared to open alternatives. 2D GPU acceleration could give a chance to Adobe Reader to work at least equally fast as open source viewers.
    However thanks for reply.

  • When will newer EVGA video cards be approved for Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration?

I built my system for video editing, Windows 7 Ultimate, i7 920Mhz, 24Gb RAM, ASUS Rampage III Extreme motherboard and EVGA GeForce GTX 570 video card. I decided to upgrade my video card to EVGA 660Ti with many more CUDA processors and 3GB memory, but when I rendered some video I got this message "The project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration, which is not available on this system. Mercury Playback Engine Software only will be used." and it seemed the rendering was slower. Even though the EVGA newer Video cards have more memory and processor power and more CUDA cores and score better on Windows Experience Intex, Adobe does not approve them and say they use Merecury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration. Why? The Quadro cards are much more expensive have less memory, fewer CUDA cores but are rated higher by Adobe for Premiere and rendering, why is that? What gives? Why are the EVGA cards that seem more powerful and less expensive rated lower than the Quadro cards? Will this ever change?

    LOL!

  • Missing Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration after computer crash. How can I get it back

Hi, I'm missing Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration after computer crash. How can I get it back?  I had my husband update my graphic driver.  How what do I do?  When I check the project settings > general, it still has the field of Mercuy Playback software only grayed out.

  • Why is CS5 not utilising GTX285 GPU?

I have installed a GTX285 graphics card with the hope of getting better playback of RED R3D files in Premiere Pro CS5.
I have selected "Mercury Playback GPU acceleration" in the project settings but it doesn't seem to be working. When I try and playback an R3D file in the timeline the CPU is maxed out at 100% and the GPU is at 0%. Any ideas why this might be?

What are your system specs?  OS version, motherboard, memory, processor, number of hard drives etc...
Unless something jumps out related to your system, I really don't have any idea why it isn't working.  We have two editing systems using the GTX285.  They both are working fine.
If you go to iolo.com, download a free trial of System Mechanic (NOT the professional version which includes anti-virus).  The trial is fully functional for 30 days.  Run a complete system scan, repair problems and then restart.  See if that helps.
You're NOT using the Premiere CS5 trial version... Right?

  • When I chose the GPU Acceleration on my general settings I only get audio and not video play back

It has been extremely frustrating for me because my computer can render files fast just couldn't read the graphics card I had so I had to unlock it. I am hoping someone on here has done something similar to help me get this to work because the only thing that I am having trouble with as far as when it is on software only is on play back. I kept dropping several frames and it was really frustrating me. I think I may have found why I am having this problem and hope someone on here can help me out.
    15. Now just add the name of the card between the “Renderer string:” and the forward slash “/” to the cuda_supported_cards.txt file.
This was on of the steps that I did not understand and could be the reason why it is not working properly because I did not know how to do this.
Like I said it is letting me switch to the GPU Acceleration mode just not letting me see any video on anything in cs6.
This is the link to where I learned how to get premiere cs6 to read my graphics card http://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/PremiereCS5-2.htm
I have a GeForce GT 525M graphics card and according to that site I can get premiere to read my graphics card to help me playback without dropping frames.
I also installed the latest driver so that can not be the issue as of now. If you know the answer please help this is very frustrating.
    Thanks!

  • List of GPU accelerated Effects in CS5

Is there a list somewhere of the effects that are GPU accelerated in CS5?  Can someone provide a list or tell me if the following specific effects are GPU accelerated.
    1) Fast Color
    2) 3 Way Color
    3) Color Balance RGB
    4) Horizontal Flip
    5) Crop
    6) Auto Color

    8) Auto Levels

    10) Cross Dissolve Transition

With the exception of Shadow/highlights all are supported. If you want to know more, try the trial or consult the help file.
You will need to look at you projects/needs to determine what to use and what to NEVER use.
The comparison is easily done... put one of the 'Autos' on your clip and see what it looks like. If it's satisfactory... leave it. If it's not satisfactory... remove it!
    example:
I was taught to ALWAYS use a Mask when Chromakeying... but I can't even remember the last time I have used one. For me, there's no need to.
Although the underlying aspect of editing is similar... the means by which we achieve our end result(s) are usually very different. This fact rings very apparent by looking at any thread of 'how did they do this'. You will see many different answers that achieve the same/similar results... none of which is probably exactly how they got the look that posed the question.
-- It's all subjective and the final answer is based on what works for you and may even be seperated on a use-by-use basis. If the 'Autos' give you satisfactory results (in real-time) go for it... if not... don't. They may work this time but not the next -and Vice Versa.

  • Gpu acceleration problam

    hi
first of all im sorry for my bad english
im workin with cs5 - this  my system:
    Intel Core i7-950 3.06 ~ 3.33 GHz x4 QUAD CORE 8MB Cache
nVIDIA GeForce GTS250 - support mercury with cuda
    6GB
yesterday i tried to work with cs5 and i opened privious project and i got this :
the project was last used with mercury playback engine gpu acceleration wich is not available on this system .
mercury engine software only will be used.
i dont know why premiere suddenly stop recognized the gpu acceleration engine - when i go  to  video rendering and playback
settings  the options are enabled and i cant change them.
does anyone seen this Notification or tell what went worng and how it can be fixed?
    thank

    Two question:
    1.  Did you just upgrade to 5.03?
    2.  Are you running a hacked or unlock card?
If you are running the unlocked or hacked card and you just upgraded to 5.03, then you need to unlock the card again, as the update wrote a new cuda_supported_cards.txt file and over wrote the one your video card entery.

  • Mercury playback software only being used

    Hi Guys
I'm using Windows7 64bit with a Nvidia Quadro FX 3800 card and have had the card since CS5. That side of things has been fine. Since the update to PrCC2014 I now get a warning message on loading a new project: "this project was last used with mercury playback engine GPU acceleration, which is not available on this system Mercury Playback Software only will be used." It's like it's been turned off.
Can anyone advise me why this is happening now and point me to a solution to the issue?
    Regards,
    Graham

    Hi Jeff
A belated thanks for your response (I've been away on business for a couple of weeks). The problem was only in CC 2014; if I opened my project in PrCC, CUDA was functioning. The trouble is I can't access all the new features of course in the last version.
I actually got in touch with Adobe support as I had the same problem with my Laptop (a Quadro K3000M card). They had problems remotely trying out various things and spent a couple of hours trying to solve the issue. It was something to do with the set-up sequence when Pr loads that was not able to verify all the steps with the Nvidia cards. They said they'd get back to me before I went away (needless to say I'm still waiting to hear...)
Bizarrely I launched Pr on both machines today and CUDA is functioning; why, I don't know. I won't complain because I can get on with things, but I hope it's not going to be a case of sometimes it works and sometimes it don't in CC 2014...
    Regards,
    Graham

  • My prepro CS6 still uses mercury engine but new CC is not.  Why is this?

I get a message from pre pro CC saying the gpu accelerated engine is not available or not certified on this system, (when opening a project begun on CS6) yet my CS6 opens and uses it fine.  On fresh new projects, the CC shows it as greyed out in project settings.  What should I do?  Thanks in advance, from one who is really puzzled.

cc_merchant is correct. PPro CC will only let you select a GPU with at least 1GB of VRAM.  (Source)
If you used it in CS6 without issue, you might be able to use the GPU hack to get it to work in CC.  But that is at your own risk.
