Merge Module and Service Paks

Post Author: iboulder
CA Forum: Deployment
Hello,
Can anyone tell me what service pak the Crystal Reports 9.0 merge module is at?  The merge module appears to be new than SP 3, but older than SP 7.
Also, can anyone tell me were to get the merge module for CR 9.0 service pak 7?
Thanks.
Sheryl

I don't know if you really understand yet.
Nothing in my application nothing at all uses the html css, etc.. files.
The report server does not.
My application does not.
If i was calling the report server to display my reports, i could understand. Or if I was viewing the reports in my application in the html viewer. But I am not.
The report server ( it is a web service - my web service nothing to do with your report servers) only opens the rpt file and gets information from them to give to my windows form app ( it never displays a single report ).
My windows app does view the report. But it does so in the activex control. Not in the web control. It does not need the cab files from the server, everything is installed during setup.
I don't care if you install every dll you guys make on my clients computer.
Dll's are understandable, and can't be messed with and clients understand. What I don't like is have 5 or so folders under my windows forms application that contains css, html and image files.
These are just messy and un-needed. Plus more update headaches.
I guess this is really not a big issue.
I just don't understand why a windows forms app has to include all the html files that a web application would need.
Oh well the install does work, and I am not going to go through all the mess that I have had in the past trying to figure out which dlls need to be copied and registered like I have had to do for years. So I guess it is better than it used to be, even if my computer is cluttered with useless files.
I hope I don't sound mad, because I am not. I have used CR for 10+ years now, and I like the product. I just would like to see some improvements on the msm.
Thanks for your response.
I really do appreciate it.

  • Merge Modules and InstallShield

We are building an installation package with InstallShield 12 that includes merge modules obtained from "Merge Modules for Crystal Reports 9 RDC Deployments" on http://support.businessobjects.com/downloads/merge_modules.asp#01
We have merge modules for each language in our merge module folder but InstallShield only recognizes one set and there is no way to select languages.  "rdc9_deployment.pdf" does not cover how to build an installer with multiple languages.  If we want to include the localized resource dlls for Chinese, French, German and Japanese do we need to individually include those dlls in a separate component?

Well I think I stumbled on an answer. I took what you said about needing the NI-VISA drivers, combined with a bit of Google searching to discover that Network Variables require the LogosXT assembly to function. This lead me to install the LogosXT assemblies from the NI-VISA driver, which immediately resulted in my program working again.
From there, I did a bit more searching which brought me to this thread: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabWindows-CVI/logos-msm-in-CVI2013-SP2-depends-on-logosxt-msm-with-a-differ...
That thread lead me to realize that I was experiencing the exact same problem in my program, that the Logos merge module had a dependency on an incorrectly signed LogosXT merge module, which caused LogosXT to be excluded from the setup project and subsequent installs were missing the LogosXT assembly.
I was able to correct it by downloading the corrected Logos merge modules from the linked thread, replacing the existing modules in the Merge Modules directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Merge Modules\), and recompiling. After you replace the files, you'll see the LogosXT merge module appear in the dependencies in your setup project, indicating that the issue has been resolved.
    Hope this helps.

  • What merge module and/or drivers necessary to deploy app with CWNumEdit, CWGPIB, CWSerial, and CWButton

Thank you to Johnathan for getting me this far.  I am the person who is trying to build and deploy an app
onto another machine, of which i do not know what is on it.  I got my app to build and now i'm creating an
installer and adding merge modules based on the help....when i run the app on the target machine, it
still says "An unsupported operation was attempted".  I am assuming that i still need more merge modules
and/or drivers...and i don't know which.  I am guessing the controls that still aren't "supported" are the
ones that are from visual studio 6 support.....I am guessing that these controls are:
    CWNumEdit, CWGPIB, CWSerial, and CWButton.
Could someone help me and point me in the right direction if i need to install drivers for these and/or
what merge  modules they are contained in?
    THANK YOU!!
    K

    Hi KBr,
If you are using any ActiveX UI components (like CWNumEdit, CWButton) you need to include the CWUI_OCX.msm merge module as well as the NIMesaDLL.msm and nimetautils.msm.  Those merge modules you can find in the [Program Files\Common Files\Merge Modules\] directory. The CWSerial and CWGPIB ActiveX controls are part of the cwinstr.ocx file located on the Measurement Studio CD as you have already found.
When building an installer, you can simply add the cwinstr.ocx file to your setup application, and specify that it should be register when installed. You just click on the cwinstr.ocx file once its part of the setup project and then configure the Register field in the Properties Window.

  • Crystal Report 9 merge Module and its service pack 7.

Hello, My application is using Crystal report 9 and have its merge modules which are integrated in Installer. It has packages: rdcdesigntime.msm, rdcruntime.msm, reportengine.msm and Database_Access.msm which are already integrated in my application Installer. There are few issues which are fixed in its service pack 7 for CR 9(File: cr90win_en_sp7.exe).
    Now my Q is:
    1. Are there latest merge modules for CR 9 which has changes for SP 7 also incorporated? So that I can change modules in installer itself to have changes for SP7 also.
    2. I couldn't get merge modules for CR 9 even from the site. From where I can get this?

    Hi Neha,
Click [here|http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/additional_downloads/runtime.asp#01] to download the availabe merge modules of CR 9.
    Or
Click [here|https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm] to get all the CR9 documents, mergemodules, fix packs etc. just you need to provide the "CR" as S/W product and "9" as a roduct version.
Also the Wiki [here|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/CrystalReportsforVisualStudio.NETRuntimeDistribution-Versions9.1to12.0] is currently the best resource for CR.NET Runtime information.

  • Crystal Reports XI - Where to find the Merge Module and the Install Shield?

    Hi,
I'm using CR XI with Delphi 2006 and I'm having problems with the client side instalation of the program. They say I have to install the Merge Modules through an Install Shield programs.
Where to find this and how to use?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Install shield is a part of MS Windows not with the BusinessObjects so I was not able to find any BO document on it.
I have searched over the internet and found some useful links about Install Shield for Windows:
    http://gormanonline.com/blogs/msidle/archive/2008/05/02/basic-introduction-to-installshield-and-windows-installer.aspx
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InstallShield
Microsoft Windows includes registry-activated logging services to help diagnose Windows Installer issues. This article describes how to enable this logging service.
Open the registry with Regedt32.exe and create the following path and keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
    Reg_SZ: Logging
    Value: voicewarmup
    You can use this example:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftwindowsInstaller]
    u201CLoggingu201D=u201Dvoicewarmupu201D
The letters in the value field can be in any order. Each letter turns on a different logging mode. Each letteru2019s actual function is as follows for MSI version 1.1:
    v Verbose output
    o Out-of-disk-space messages
    i Status messages
    c Initial UI parameters
    e All error messages
    w Non-fatal warnings
a Start up of actionsr Action-specific records
m Out-of-memory or fatal exit information
    u User requests
    p Terminal properties
    + Append to existing file
! Flush each line to the log
u201Cu201D - Wildcard, log all information except for the v option. To include the v option, specify u201C/lvu201C.
Once activated, the log files that are generated may be found in your %TEMP% directory.
Hope this will give you a clarification about Installation Shield for Windows.

  • Merge Modules X Service Packs

    Post Author: marciocallejon
    CA Forum: Deployment
    Hi,
I've been developing applications using Crystal Reports Developer 9.0 with .Net 2005 for a long time.
At the development machine, I installed the service pack 7.0 and it works fine, but, when I try to deploy the application, using the lastest merge modules, the application crashes.
Comparing the files between the development machine and the client machine, I checked that the files of the merge modules are out of date. If I copy the files manually the aplication starts to work fine too.
Now I ask, how to find the lastest merge modules syncronized with the lastest service packs ?
    Thanks, Marcio

    Hello Saurabh!
    Thanks for the information!
That helps a lot, but I still have a doubt:
I'd like to know if I can deploy an application which was created on CR XI R2(no service packs or Service pack < than the client) on a client computer which has CR R2 SP6 runtime installed.

I am trying to install crystal runtime on a client machine.
I am using the CrystalReports11_5_NET_2005.msm merge module.
I have opened the module using orca and set InstallViewerVirtualDir to 0 in the property table and the moduleconfiguration table. ( and of course set my key )
I put the merge module into my installation package and ran the install.
I am getting a bunch of subdirectories I do not need. ( I am not running the reports from the html viewer )
The subdir's are css, html, images, js, and prompting.
I downloaded the latest stuff as far as i can tell ( crxir2_fp44_net_mm.zip )
How can I turn off the installation of these files.

  • Crystal 11.5 runtime deployment required merged modules and minimum size

I have some deployment restrictions. The 11.5 runtime merged modules are about 80mb, which is very large for use.
    1. Are all merged modules required? It seems as if not all of them are needed. Can I get a list of the required ones?
    2. Is there anyway to minimize the deployment? Either through the msmu2019s or by breaking them apart?
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi, John;
The only supported method of deploying our runtime files is to use the merge modules. All of them are required, except for the Mapping merge module, which would only be used if you are using the Mapping feature.
There is no way to decrease the size of the deployment.

  • Merge Modules and Installer

    Hello all!
I written a very simple test  application, where only a numeric knob will be shown on a chart. Now I want to run this application on an other PC, where MS is not installed. I know I have to create an installer, so OCXs and DLLs will be copied and registered.
On the picture you see which MSM files I added to the installer project. The problem is , that after installation the EXE can't be started. I get an error message, that the application is wrong configured. I think I have to add more MSM files, but I don't know which files to add.

    Hi Eugen,
I would suggest using Dependency Walker to determine what dependencies are missing.  Open your EXE in this program and see what you are missing. Usually the missing dependencies are in red text.  If there is nothing obvious, then you can profile your application in Dependency Walker (Profile menu) and it should attempt to run your app and mention what the problem is.

  • Merge modules for Business Objects XI service pack 4

I am in the process of developing a deployment package in Installshield 2009 - Basic MSI Project.  I tried adding the merge modules I downloaded earlier from the web page, http://support.businessobjects.com/downloads/runtime.asp
Currently I do not see this web page.  It would be nice if you could tell me whether do we have a merge module for Crystal Reports XI service pack 4.  If we have where from i can download them.  Thank you

Thanks a lot for the immediate response.  However, I am not using the crystal reports Version, R2 release.
I had actually installed Business Object XI and applied service pack 4 on it.  I checked the version in Help->About. It is 11.0.0.
Also my environment is XP Sp2, Visual studio 2003 and Visual studio 6.0.  I understand that R2 release is needed if the environment is Visual Studio 2005.
I would like to give a clear picture of the issue I work through.
After deploying the software in the client machine, I came to know that  when client tried to print the embedded crystal report (.dsr file) from CrViewer,
    1. Page set-up dialog bog gets displayed.
    2. After clicking 'OK' button in the page set-up dialog box, nothing happens.  It is suppose to bring print dialog.
I simulated this in my development machine (confirmed that Print dialog is is not getting displayed when 'OK' button is clicked from 'Page setup' dialog)
I researched and found out from some web page that if Business Objects XI is updated to Service pack 4, this issue gets resolved
So i applied service pack 4 in my dev. machine and tested the functionality by clicking 'OK' button.  This issue is no more.
Next logical step is to propagate the sp4 changes to the installer.  I searched for the merge modules corresponding to Business Objects XI - service pack 4.  I could not locate it now.
I searched my backup folder,  I located some previously downloaded merge modules downloaded from  the web page, http://support.businessobjects.com/downloads/runtime.asp
I tried to include these merge modules and received an error message "Internal build error" .  My research revealed that inclusion of the merge module,  CrystalReports11_RDC_Reportengine.msm  (43,306 Kb, 7/4/2007) throws "Internal build error"  during compilation of MSI project in Installshield 2009.
Any idea, tips and help to resolve the issue would be appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Merge Module Problem - I think!!

I had tried the trail version of Crystal Reports XI and was able to make it work in my applications just fine.  Now that I have purchased the product I have had nothing but trouble.  I can not get it to work even with the previous application that I had it working in.
I have a Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Visual Basic Windows application.  I have referenced the CrystalDecisions. CrystalReports.Engine, ReportSource, Shared, Windows.Forms.  I have also referenced BusinessOffice.Enterprise.BIAR.  I have created a setup application and it has detected the dependicies and included the merge modules.  I have tried it using different downloaded merge modules and it still does not work.  The error I get when I am trying to install the application is as follows:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'BusinessObjects.Enterprise.Desktop.Agnostic.dll,Version= "11.5.3300.0",Culture="neutral",PublicKey Token="692fbea5521e1304"
If anyone knows what direction to point me in on this one I would really appreciate it.  I need to move on with this application!

Hi, I've had a similar problem in a project built in Visual Studio 2003, using Crystal Reports 10. I determined that on our build machine, the project was not being built with the right version of the referenced dependency: CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms. In our case, at compile time, the build machine would check the GAC for that file and found the version 9 copy that was available. At runtime, version 9 was not available but version 10 was installed (by design) and we received the same error as you.
To resolve the error, ensure that you are building using the correct version of your references. By 'correct', I mean use the same version at compile time as will be available at run time.
I hope that helps! (I realize you posted the question 2 months ago, only stumbled on it now looking for the solution to my own, different, problem)

when I print directly from Crystal Reports designer, the labels print correctly.  If I print the report from our application software using the Crystal merge module, the top of page margin is not the same.
I am using Crystal Report 2008 Fix Pack 1.5 Merge Modules.
Any idea what might be causing this ?  I do not see any settings in the CrystalReportViewer that would cause the top of page margin to change.
Note: We were using a previous version of Crystal Reports, version 11 using the merge modules and it worked just fine. After changing to the 2008 merge modules we are running into this problem.

Which Version of VS.NET you are using?
           VS 2008 v 9.0.30729.1 SP

. Error messages you are facing?

The mailing label report works just fine printing directly from the Crystal Reports 2008 Design application.  However is I try to print the exact same report using the CrystalReportViewer in the merge module, the top of page margin is different.  Basically printing from the designer, there is some spacing at the top of the page, printing in the vb.net app the spacing at the time of is missing.

We are currently using the merge module for Crystal 10 from 05/10/2006 in our InstallShield project.  We're experiencing problems that appear to have been resolved in the newest SP6 -- however it doesn't look like the merge module has been updated in quite some time.

  • Crystal 9 SP7 merge modules

Has anyone yet made Crystal 9 merge modules that included the SP7 update?  I see the last one posted in the downloads section is still prior to SP6.
We ran into an issue lately where the Crystal 9 viewer crashes after repeated attempts to the same report over and over.  One of our programmers installed the SP7 update on his PC and the issue was resolved.  However, when we package the last merge modules and deploy it to our users - they still get the problem.  If we force the SP7 install on their PC (which is only meant for a full install of CR9) and click past all of the errors on the backup -- it works!  The issue doesn't appear anymore.
I'm going a bit nuts trying to butcher the old merge modules to include the SP7 updated files, but I'm finding a futile effort.  Does Business Objects have SP7 merge modules that can be put in the download area?  Or can I get a list of all the files that should be included in each merge module and I'll build it myself.

    Hello,
It is unlikely that the CR9 merge modules are going to be updated any more.  SP7 for CR9 was released back in January 2006, and all patch support, etc. has expired for CR9.
The work around is going to be to install SP7 on your client machines.  While BOBJ never recommended installing full SPs on a deployment machine in this case you really don't have an option.

  • Invalid GUID Strings in RDC Report Engine Merge Module

The "CrystalReports11_5_RDC_Reportengine.msm" merge module for Crystal Reports XI R2 SP6 contains some invalid GUID strings that cause validation errors for installers that include that merge module.  Basically, there are three components in the merge module whose component ID GUIDs contain lower-case characters, and these lower-case characters violate Windows Installer rules as the characters should be all upper-case.  These three component ID GUIDs are {C3122AE7-7812-4ab7-8187-4AFA5C3FB819}, {5CCE2FBC-BC46-4fb0-91FE-10FBA2C713DE}, and {C9105D9E-BCCD-45c1-B0B1-BB8D2382D12A}.  To see the validation errors, open the merge module in Microsoft's Orca tool and run the validation command using the "Merge Module Validation Suite" option.  There will be three ICE03 validation errors with messages like "Invalid GUID string (Be sure GUID is all UPPER case)..."
This problem seems to have been introduced in the CR XI R2 SP6 version of this merge module, as prior versions did not appear to suffer from it.  I also checked the CR XI R2 SP6 Fix Pack 6.1 version of the merge module, and it too has the same problem.
Will the problem be fixed in the next version (Fix Pack 6.2?) of the merge module?
