Merge Mono to Stereo problem

before we begin, i just want to thank anyone who can help me out. i've tried reading the manual and searching everywhere online, but can't find any help.
i'm having a problem merging two mono files to a single stereo file. if i pan the two mono tracks hard left and right, it basically just deletes one of the files and leaves one mono file. if i don't pan each mono track hard left and right (even if i just move the left pan one digit from -64 to -63), it works just fine...it prompts me to tell it if i want to merge to a mono or a stereo file, and processes the files correctly (none of which happens if the tracks are hard-panned).
am i missing something? or should i report this to apple?
again, thanks!

Do you still have two audio tracks, eg. A1 & A2?
If so, select both tracks and hit Option-L.
This will make two mono tracks a stero pair. You will see two sets of small forward facing triangles to indicate the action is done.

  • Stereo import problems creates mono to stereo problem/question

After 10 hours of uploading video to the hard drive I'm finally ready to work on the project, but something odd happened. After the first tape upload all the files switched from two track stereo to one track mono.
How does this happen? I don't relish redoing 9 hours of video input and I'm hoping there's #1 a simple way to return it to stereo with out it ever doing this again and #2 are the mono tracks still recorded in stereo and able to be processed into two track stereo.
I've looked around the archives and found little, I'm even having difficulty finding the audio capture settings as I'm working off an FCP book.
In all the years of recording off his camera it's never switched from it's stereo settings so I'm a bit befuddled.
    Any help/hope is appreciated.

  • Change between mono- and stereo-sound

My question is if there is any way to change between mono and stereo sound on the ipod nano 3th generation...?
    Thanks for help!

Are you not getting stereo? What are you listening with - maybe there's a plug problem...
Does it sound like stereo from iTunes?

  • Converted mono to stereo

I converted a left channel recording from imovie hd to both channels using quicktime. Now the audio track is way to long even though the size is the same. Format: Linear PCM Channels: Mono Rate: 48 (the rate decreases the size but it doesn't matter). Any ideas how to keep the audio the same length.

I can't reproduce the problem with "Save as..." again, so the tracks switched from mono to stereo somewhere between the time I recorded them and by the time I was done tweaking their EQ and compression settings. I don't know how to delete or edit my discussion question above, sorry!

  • Mono vs. stereo, answer to random resets?

i read elsewhere on the forums that if you have mono recorded songs it causes you ipod to crash. this is the problem im currently having, where it crashes randomnly as its shuffling through songs.
so how can i determine which songs are mono so i can get rid of them and see if this fixes my problem?

Honestly, it doesn't matter whether the song is mono or stereo for whether it will play or not, just to how it sounds. Is it just certain songs or does it do it completely randomly? If it is certain songs, then you have to remove those songs and reformat them so they are in a proper format. If it isn't that particular ones, then you have a corrupt iPod Control file on your iPod and you'll have to do a reformat. If you don't want to lose all your music because you don't have proper backups of it, there are a few ways around it. But before I get into that, let me know what you discover about which songs it is.

  • Mono to stereo in Garageband

Hi, I am a Mac and Garageband newbie. I have some old analog 8mm video that I converted to digital video and I am turning these into DVDs. However, the audio is all mono. It is all on the left channel. I am using iMovie to create the video and Garageband to add some music, chapter breaks, etc.
Is there a way to easily convert the mono sound to stereo? I don't care if it is the same sound coming from each speaker. I would just like sound from both.
    Thanks!!!

I am really struggling with this. I have just imported a movie into Garage Band but the sound is only coming out of the right speaker. I have adjusted the balance control towards the left but there is nothing, so I need to set the audio to mono. My problem is I cant find the option to do this. I have clicked on the Info window but cant see the option. How did you do it?
    Thanks in advance

  • New prores presets - still just mono or stereo

I have just tried the new prores presets, to find out, if adobe changed the audio-export-limitation:
    Question:
Will the endcoder now be able to encode a, let’s say, XDCAM HD 422 Clip to Apple pro Res including the 4 (or more) mono audio tracks?
I was waiting for that for a long time.
    The answer is:
NO, it still is not possible to encode more than one single mono or stereo audio track. Just with MXF you have this choice (4 and more tracks), not with any of the other codecs.
I just don´t get it - what is it, that makes it impossible for adobe to solve this problem?
    Regards,
    Philipp

Unnecessary? Well... Depends pretty much of what you´re up to, doesn´t it? Video editing for Youtube: stereo is quite enough. But Broadcast?
Allways funny, when this topic comes up in the adobe world. You may call it "native-Philosophy", I think it´s not much better than apples fcpx-Philosphy (which is: it´s for the masses, not the pros): With dozens of codecs on board, there is only one way to export a clip with more than one single mono track (or stereo) - that is via the mxf-wrapper.

  • Lumia 720 : mono or stereo?

I have Lumia 720. Here's my problem. When I plugged my headset, the output seemed to be mono, not stereo. I checked with the same headset and the same song on my pc and the output was stereo. Another audio setting on my lumia are working properly, like the equalizer and dolby experience. Is my lumia getting a problem here?

hi mate, have you checked that you are fully up to date with the latest firmware for your device, and that you have all the latest Nokia system app updates from the Store? also check that you are pushing the earphones all the way into the headset jack on the phone properly, and try performing a soft reset.

  • Change Mixdown from Mono to Stereo

I'm sorry if this has come up previously but I coudn't find anything that exactly related to my situation.
First let me say I bought CS5.5 about two years ago and after trying it a few times, I found I did not like all the "missing functions like Group Tracks and the fact that it seemed to work slower than my old 1.5.
Recently I decided to give it another try and be  patient. I had to assembe two VOs with SFX and various production music beds. When I was happy with the mix, I was ready to do a mixdown...only to discover that my mixdown was in Mono. Mono? I tried to find where to convert it to stereo. After searching help and then this forum, it appears that there is no way to choose Strero or Momo....except apparently only when initially naming the Multitrack session. SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!    Does this mean I have to start all over with a new session file and spend all that time again?   If this is so, WHY would they remove the option to mixdown in Mono OR Stereo which seem so common sense and was an option in previous Audition versions.  I never understood software developers who seem to want to take away functions that worked.
Am I wrong? Is there any way to choose or change a mixdown in a session? I like choice. Choice is good.
    Cheers

For clarity's sake, a stereo track with audio on one side is still a stereo track, not a mono track.  So you're not really changing mono to stereo, you're just routing the active channel to fill both left and right sides.  There are a number of ways to do that.  I like #3 myself.

  • Are iPad and iPhone built in microphones mono or stereo?

    That's my question.

He assumed that you were hoping the mic would be stereo. As I said, though, for most use cases, a mono mic is just fine (or even better). What use do you have in mind. The only situation in which a stereo mic would be better is if you're going to record a stage or room full of musicians playing. If you're recording voice memos, or even recording yourself playing a single instrument, a stereo mic is unnecessary.
That said, we still haven't completely resolved whether the built-in mic is mono or stereo. The tech specs on apple.com don't specify, but I am 99.9% certain that it is mono.

  • Mono to stereo converter for 6600

    Hey guys,
Does anyone have any clue how to convert music output from mono to stereo in the nokia 6600?
    Thanks,
I need a reply soon plz!!!
    Thanx

It is a physical impossibility. If there is only one line out signal, you can't convert it to two with any converter (software or hardware).
If you really must have stereo output, then you need a new phone.

  • HT4589 How do I change the audio to dual mono from stereo when using Share to DVD in Final Cut 10.1?

How do I switch the audio to Dual Mono from Stereo when using Share in Final Cut Pro 10.1? Even though the audio is all in dual mono in the timeline, it lists it as stereo in the share box.

    Hi rationale1,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The share to DVD settings in Final Cut Pro X use the Dolby Digital settings which are stereo for DVDs. So this can’t be done directly in Final Cut Pro X.
The link below will explain the Dolby Digital parameters and options in Compressor 4.   You may need to research a different DVD authoring software to achieve your desired result.
Dolby Digital - Compressor 4 User Manual
    http://help.apple.com/compressor/mac/4.1/#cpsrb71736a2
    Dolby Digital
The built-in Dolby Digital settings (in the Create Blu-ray and Create DVD destinations, as well as the built-in AC-3 and EC-3 audio settings) use the Dolby Digital transcoding format. This format encodes Dolby Digital (AC-3) and Dolby Digital Plus (EC-3) audio files that contain multiple audio channels, including 5.1 surround sound. You can also create custom settings that use the Dolby Digital transcoding format.
Note:  All files intended for video and audio DVD authoring must have a 48 kHz sample rate as required by the DVD specification.
DVD Video: Choose this option if you’re encoding for use in a DVD video authoring application.
DVD Audio: Choose this option if you’re encoding for use in a DVD audio authoring application.
Tip:  For stereo encoding, rates of 192 kbps and 224 kbps are typical and will produce good results. For Dolby Digital 5.1 encoding, a rate of 384 kbps is recommended. For 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus encoding, a rate of 192 kbps is recommended.
    Cheers,
    Judy

  • Mono to stereo or combine audio

I have an iMovie that is an electronic white board. I recorded an audio file from my Nikon (so I would think it would be stereo) and added that to the whiteboard video. I've been told the audio is mono, but I don't know how to verify that or how to correct it. 1. How can I tell if the audio track is mono or stereo? 2. If it is mono can I convert it to stereo or play it as mono on both tracks to simulate stereo? Thanks.

    Hi
In iMovie You can not do any of it.
    But You can
    • From Event's - iPhoto Videos take it and drop it into a new Project
    • From Project You export it as QuickTime and as Audio only (.aiff)
    • This file You can open in an Audio/Sound-Editor as Audacity (free on Internet) or GarageBand ( might work ? )
And here in e.g. Audacity You can see if the Right and Left track are identical = MONO or have slight differences. I do this by invert one track and add it to the other - if it is silent - then the tracks are in Mono if not then You've got a Stereo Sound from start.
    Mono to Stereo = Impossibly
Mono out via Left and Right speaker - Just copy the audio in one track and paste it into the other - BUT still when You listen all will come from center. Simulated Stereo - I've never seen any working application that can produce this.
When done in Audacity - then Save (still as .aiff) and import this to Your Movie project.
Far from so easy as in FinalCut Pro. Where You just pan audio to the other canal.

  • Your experience with Modify Clip "Stereo" or "Mono as Stereo"

    Using CS5.
When recording my project our audio was recorded externally.  I have all my audio tracks recorded as mono and I want to use all of the tracks as stereo.
I found instructions on how to do it, but I have some questions.
I highlight an unused audio clip on my project panel and then use Clip> modify > Audio channels.
Among the choices are Mono, Stereo, Mono as Steeo and 5.1
Since my clips are mono, I assume I should select "Mono as Stereo".   But is there a subtle difference to selecting "Stereo".?
In addition, I want to fill both right and left tracks with the recording that was recorded in mono.  I would like to avoid having to use the audio effects fill right / fill left.  I assume using either "Mono as Stereo" or "Stereo" will fill both right and left tracks -- but, again, is there some subtle differences -- or best practices?
    Thanks
    Rowby

    Hi Jim,
Just checked the "mono" track with my headphones -- and indeed you are correct. I hear it in on both channels.
So nothing needs to be done.
However, then, why does Premiere Pro have  these "features"?
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b1038518aef7-7f41a .html
Thinking more about this, however, as I write this reply,I like putting a mono track directly above or below a stereo track -- and as you know, you can't put mono track into a stereo track (you have to create a new mono track, which is a minor pain) -- so that would be at least one reason to convert the mono to a stereo.....  I have to create a new mono track - and sometimes that track is far below the stereo track I want to mix it with.
I also notice this article which implies you can make it so when you import any track (mono or stereo) into premiere it will be (based on your preference settings) "converted" to  mono, stereo, mono as stereo) etc.
