Merge users

I have transfered my information from my old MacBook to my new MacBook pro. Is there a way that I can merge my users. I moved all my files over from my other computer with a Time Machine back up, but it was in the old OS, and the info is not showing up in Lion. I have to change from one user to the other to get to my info, and it is in the old format.

You need to change the permissions on the old account to give your new account either read access or read/write access. There's a slight glitch that requires some additional steps but it's not hard to work around. To change the permissions follow these steps:
Log into your new account.
Open the Users folder and select the old account home folder.
Press ⌘+i to open the Get Info window.
Select the lock icon in the lower right hand corner and type your admin password.
Select the '+' icon in the lower left hand corner and select your new acount to add read only access. (It looks like nothing happens, this is the glitch I was referring to.
Close the Get Info window and Finder window that shows the Users folder contents (this is the work around).
Perform steps 2 - 4 again (the account you just added should show in the Get Info window).
Select the new account you just added in the bottom pane of the Get Info window. If you want 'Read/Write' access instead of 'Read Only' access now is the time to change it.
Select the Gear icon at the bottom of the window and select 'Apply to enclosed items' and close the Get Info window.
You should now have access to all the files in your old account. You can copy all the files you want to your new account and then delete the old account using the Accoounts preference pane.

I am opening this discussion up to bring light to a MAJOR flaw in people inventory I have been trying to deal with for a while now. There is a feature request for the ability to merge users - started 4 years ago this Saturday. Thanks for the suggestions, I will definitely try PMing them, but who?It's nice that support will help out in the case of domain migrations etc., but really the ability to merge users is an every day operational issue that needs to be supported. The ability to have multiple email aliases for a user is also essential.I completely get that old users need to be kept around so that historical data has some place to be attached to, soI can accept the need to have inactive users rather than deleting them - but still users (and admins!) sometimes do crazy things that have to be cleaned up. A significant proportion of my users contact me from multiple email addresses, which results in duplication in the user database and therefore records not being correctly tracked to the user (an email address isn't, or shouldn't be, the same...

Hi everyone. Can I ask a favour of you all? Have you ever wished you could merge users and/or assign multiple email aliases to them? I'm betting that most Spiceworks users have been affected by this missing functionality.

Merging user accounts after using Migration Assistant

I've just acquired my first Mac (Lion OS) and set it up without using the Migration Assistant. I set up mail accounts for my existing email addresses (Gmail & Virgin). A few days later I decided to transfer my old files from the PC using Migration Assistant. Rather than do the whole thing in one go I thought I'd start with iTunes. What I failed to realise is that the Migration creates a new user account on the Mac (something I only noticed when I couldn't find iTunes and went searching). If I now migrate something else such as "My Photographs", another user account will appear.
I don't really want more than one user account so how do I transfer the iTunes music from one account to another and the same when I bring more stuff across from the PC? A related issue is the fact I've set up mail accounts already. If I migrate my Outlook mail folders and email account details can these also be merged or will the Mac be confused as I've already set something up?
Any help appreciated from this newbie Mac user. Thanks.

i've just got my first mac. I migrated files from old pc. This has created another user. Can I merge the two?

Best to start over and use Setup Assistant, which appears on the first boot of the new Mac. This will avoid all of the hassles involved in trying to merge accounts.

How to merge User Profile Service Applications

We have a SP 2010 farm with UPSA and some the users have edited their profile properties in that. We have planned to move the web application from SP 2010 farm to SP 2013 farm which already has a user profile service application in it.
Both the SP2010 and SP2013 farms are using same AD.
What we need after upgrading to SP 2013,
1. The edited user profile properties should be updated in the SP 2013 farm
2. SP 2013 farm should have only one UPSA.
Please help to migrate the UPSA from SP 2010 and merge with the existing 2013 UPSA.

Per my knowledge, we cannot merge the two user profile service application.
If you need the custom user properties in your User profile service application in SharePoint 2013, I recommend to create a mapping to export the user properties to AD from SharePoint 2010 user profile service application and then create a mapping to import
the user properties to user profile service application in SharePoint 2013.

Or you just need to migrate the User Profile service application from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 and use this instead of the existing User Profile service application in SharePoint 2013.

How to merge user accounts into one account

I have 2 user accounts and need to merge them into one (having both running seems to slow down the computer significantly). There is some overlap in itunes and apps but none on iphoto. What would be the best way to do it?

To move files from user account A to account B, log in as A, and move all the files to /Users/A/Public. Then log in as B. Navigate with Finder to /Users/A/Public, and drag them to the desktop to copy them. Then file them away in their appropriate places. When done, you can delete the A account.
Suggestion: Keep one spare admin account around to use in an emergency. If your other account gets borked and you can't log in, it could save your bacon. A second user account is also useful for troubleshooting misbehaving apps.

Merge User accounts on one MacBook

following situation: I have three users on my MacBook which I want to merge into one user.
This includes
- three different mail accounts
- documents
- address books
- one iPhoto library with one user
- one iTunes library with another user
Is this possible via sharing?
Can I copy the account informations for the email accounts and past it?

There is no merge but you can move data from one account to another via the Shared folder. Data is copied from Shared. Watch your free space when copying. These are large files. Do one at a time if you are on a small drive. After making copy, delete from other users before you start next copy.
Office365 installs in the main Applications folder and is available for all users on the computer. Activation is tied to the drive not the User.

What's with the new user acct after using Migration Asst? Can I merge users or should I even care?

I used Migration Assistant to bring over photos and music from my PC and a new user account was created on my iMac. I expected this since the instructions on the Apple site mentioned this would happen. But now that it's all over and done it really annoys me to have 2 user accounts. Is it something I should just accept or should I merge the accounts (if that's even possible)?

Please look over http://pondini.org/OSX/Setup.html towards the bottom where he discusses that. Once you have the data moved into the account you want you can remove the account you don't want by using the System Preferences - Users & Account. The remaining account must be an administrators account though.

I just got my first mac, (a MacBook Air). I used the windows migration assistant to transfer my files from my old PC to my new mac. It took 4 days, but finally finished, and all the files I wanted are in huge mac. However, the files are on a new user account. Now I have two accounts on my computer. I'll be the only person using it, so it's really annoying to have to switch between them. How of I merge accounts or move the files from one account to the other (without spending 4 days waiting for files to move)?
i tried doing some internet searches but found info that was for older versions of the operating system or used too much tech speak. Anyone have a simple answer?

I recommend you read Pondini's guide on the subject. Note that you need to be careful not to overwrite files with the same name, iPhotos and iTune libraries in particular. Give them a suffix to their names to differentiate them.
iPhoto Library Manager has a facility to merge libraries. I don't know about iTunes.

Merging User groups/profiles?

Recently I've used migration assistant to copy files over from my PC to my new Mac. It has created a separate "user account" and I want to merge that account with the original admin. account on the Mac. Is this possible?
The additional problem I'm having is that my entire iTunes library has not copied over, only my purchases from iTunes. Thanks in advance!!!!!

No idea, but likely. Went to Apple store...was not very helpful - just a lot of discussion about copyrights, etc. The music I have was all purchased, just not necessarily from iTunes.

How Do I Merge Users??

After setting up my new MBP running Mavericks, it asked me to establish a name for the computer, however, it would not let me use the same name as the source Time Machine backup from my old PowerBook. So I created a new name by adding my middle initial. Now, I have an additional user on my MacBook Pro instead of just my old one. How do I either eliminate the one they made me create, or merge the new one with the old one??

How to correctly merge users folders from one catalog to another?

Hi gurus,
Here's the scenario we have right now and would appreciate any guidance:
Several months ago, in our 11g Test server, we upgraded our 10g production catalog to 11g and have been developing/correcting dashboards in this 11g Test server.
Now we are ready to go to production with our 11g changes. What is the correct way to merge the catalog so that at the end, I'll have an 11g Production catalog with my updated 11g dashboards but we have the users' personal content from 10g?
Specifically, my question/concerns are:
1 - Should I be using 11g Test server catalog as the base and then upgrade current 10g catalog and copy and paste just the /root/users folder into the 11g Test server catalog using Catalog Manager?
or
Should I use the upgraded 10g production catalog as the base and then copy and paste in the /root/shared folder from 11g Test server catalog using Catalog manager?
2 - What about the /root/system folder? Do I keep the 10g upgraded /system folder or the 11g test /system folder?

Follow this approach,
1. Upgrade the existing prod catalog to 11g
2.Open the test catalog in Catalog Manager
3.Select the shared folder which has the new reports, goto file ->archive and save the archive file
4.Open the upgraded prod catalog, select the shared folder ->File -> Unarchive and select the saved archived file
5.Deploy this catalog in dev or test environment and verify the changes.
