Merged Audio clip gets shortened

Hello,
When I use the "merge clips" function some of my newly created clips have shorter attached audio files when dropped into the timeline.
I merged clips for hundreds of shots for a feature film with the "in point" for the merge. I have not set an end point for audio files when merging to accidentally make them shorter for merging. All appears good when I look at the merged clip in the "viewer". However, when I put some of the merged clips into the "timeline" the newly attached 'merged' audio clips are shorter than the video clips by a significant amount. I double click the merged clips and still see the audio is as long as necessary in the "viewer".
Why are my merged audio clips getting shortened in the timeline?
I tried to unlink the audio in the timeline, but the newly created merged audio file will not stretch out to the full capacity.
Thanks for the help.
Jason

Hi.
I have a bunch of audio & video files that last minutes in length that I am trying to link up for each shot. Some times it will be a 3 or 4 minute long take. When the audio is merged it only appears to be about 30 seconds long or less on the timeline. Yet, the entire original audio is minutes long.
When I look at the merged clip the audio stream is as long as it should be. (minutes instead of seconds) But, when it is put onto the timeline the merged audio is significantly shorter and I can't stretch out the merged clip to the appropriate length.
Thanks for reading and asking good questions.

  • Is it possible to merge audio clips?

    Hello,
I've been editing the audio track, ending up with a bunch of smaller clips. Is there a way to merge groupings of audio clips into one? I see a video plugin (Join Clips) that works for the video clips, but none for audio.
    Thanks, Paul

I have used Garage Band for this, import each one in, add together, then export out to iTunes as one tune. Fairly easy once you get the hang of Garage Band.

  • ~Inported Audio Clipping - Getting Frustrated~

I have Premiere Pro 7, no CS es, or addons.
I  have been banging my head off the wall over and over again with the constant problems I'm having. The latest I have ran into is inported .mp3's being cut off at the end. The first 80% plays just fine, the last 20% of the clip is non existant.
The clips play just fine in 3 different music players I have, and in Audacity ( my audio editor and recorder ). Why is part of the clip simply not importing into Premier?
The clips are created by me, in standard .mp3 format. Nothing exotic, just voice naration.
    I've attached one the .mp3 's

MP3's come with a ton of "baggage." Some might be things like embedded album art, but there can be more.
As per Jim's suggestion, unless I am dealing with a tiny SFX MP3, I always convert to PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit. I use Audition, but one could use Soundbooth, or the freeware program, Audacity.
    Good luck,

  • How do I merge multiple audio clips to one?

    Hey Everyone,
After syncing multiple clips in PE I import them into Premiere CS6 and they are all layered with their own audio tracks (though the video clips are synced with only one audio track). This causes inconsistent audio levels. How do I join all these clips which originally derived from one audio recorder to merge as one? If there is a step by step process please advise. Thanks in advance, you guys are beyond awesome.
    Mike Diaz

If all audio is from a single audio source (with consistent levels0 ..the only reason you would be getting different audio levels on different audio tracks is if the Mixer has different settings....or the audio has been changed at clip level.
Its usually desireable to have audio clips on different tracks.
Can you not just drag the audio clips to a single audio track...if that's what you really need?
Alternatively a mixdown...but that requires sorting the levels anyway.  ( Mixer on automation or at clip level.)

  • Merge clips and preserve audio clip names?

    Hey Guys,
I'm about to start editing a new project of mine that I just shot.  I used Premiere to edit my last project and loved it, save one problem I had after using the "Merge Clips" feature to sync my audio.  In order to save time, I used Merge Clips to sync my picture and sound rather than do it manually.  The feature worked really well, but I didn't notice until it came time to export my OMF that the "Merge Clips" feature had renamed all of my audio clips to the same name as the video clip it was sunc to.  This resulted in many broken links in the OMF.
Is there any way to use "Merge Clips" or a feature similar to it, that preserves the names and metadata of the master clips you're syncing?  I might just do it all by hand to be safe.
    Thanks,
    Joe

I do believe we've uncovered (yet another) bug. For the life of me, I couldn't get a video to sync to its respective WAV. The audio from both sources was clean and clear; if Premiere couldn't auto sync this, it couldn't sync anything...
Then the funny part: it could sync everything else together perfectly (DSLR, GoPro, HDV). I must admit I was impressed, GoPros record fairly horrible audio- but Premiere managed to sync them  accurately and quickly with the other cameras. It just treated the external audio as foreign and refused it.
Can someone from Adobe chime in? I'm here for questions.

  • Merge audio to video clips, end of clip loses audio

This is driving me nuts. After merging audio and video clips, sync to slate using the in points, everything is in sync.
The audio is longer than the video itself. But WAY before the scene ends, the audio mutes. The waveforms are visable but no audio plays. It drop out. It happens to every merged clip I create. I don't use the out points either.
    Anyone else have this issue??
If I take an alternate method to sync them in the timeline and create a clip from there, it makes a new sequence clip losing the scene and take metadata. That's not good. Is there a workaround?

It happens on every project and different formats. I do use FCP Rescue and that doesn't solve it. I did figure out a work around which involves a few more steps and is more time consuming. Maybe this can help find the problem. Here is the ridiculous workaround steps. We should send this to Apple.
The "--" are the extra steps.
To get a good merged subclip.
Open the audio file and add the 'in point' to the slate.
--Drag audio clip to the timeline.
--Drag the audio clip from the timeline to the browser window.
    Merge with video.
Viola. Audio won't drop out. But the waveforms are completely off with the sound.
Next step is to open the merged clips and Make Subclip so you don't have that extra media in the beginning and end. And the waveform seem normal.

  • Menus shorten audio clip

I have many shorter music clips that I have recorded (using WireTap Pro) from my iTunes music, whenever I need part of a song, or just the first few seconds of the beginning.
I can drop these into my iMovies (using v 6.0.4) without problem.
If I want to use these as menu audio in iDVD, iDVD 08 shortens them. For example, a 35 second clip will be only 6 seconds, no option to lengthen to the length of the clip.
Even when the duration slider will move, the length of the clip does not change.
This was not a problem in iDVD 6, where any audio clip would work.
I tried recording longer clips, and I can get the length of the new clip to be slightly longer....ie. recording 1 1/2 minutes will sometimes get me 25 seconds. This is a bit tedious....any ideas?

The 'save' format choices for WT are AIFF, AAC, MP3 and QuickTime.
Do you think any of the others would make a difference?

  • Losing parts of audio clips while merging them to video

    Hello,
This is my first post to this forum... I need some help with a newly installed Final Cut Pro 5.1.2. I usually edit with Avid and thus am not super familiar with Final Cut Pro.
Here's the thing: I have a problem syncing my separate audio and video clips together. Well actually the syncing part goes fine; I create an inpoint in the video and in the audio clip, merge them together using inpoints. What happens is a impeccably merged clip - except most of the audio is gone. The audio clip just ends way before it did the original audio file - you can see this clearly when dragging the merged clip into the timeline. It is always the end of the clip that is missing, and usually it is most of the clip's duration also.
What I'm saying is that when viewing a merged clip I get something like 15 seconds of perfectly fine material in sync and then usually quite soon after the clap the sound just disappears.
I have tried with several clips but the result is the same every time. I wonder whether it is some kind of setting somewhere that is causing this --- just haven't found it yet.
At the moment I'm yieldig the problem with the nesting feature but I really want to know what the problem with merging is.
This is kind of urgent so I am grateful if someone has any insight in this, or tips - I don't even know where I should start to look for a solution to this.
    Thank you!
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello
    Thanks for a quick reply
Hmm, it seems that I am really clueless about Final Cut Pro..I am not really sure what multiclip editing means.
My audio and video are from completely different sources. I am syncing with the 'merge' feature. I mark inpoints to both of the clips in the viewer, then click them active in a bin. Then I click the 'modify' tab, then 'merge'. Then select 'by inpoints'. And this way I get a new clip in my bin that contains both the audio and the video.
This is helpful as I have a lot of material and I actually didn't even realize before your post that you CAN sync in the timeline... It does seem, however, somehow less convenient. (Is this a misconception?) I'm really not familiar with different syncing and linking options in Final Cut so I might be doing this the hard way...Is there another way to link video and audio clips to each other so that they appear as a single clip in the bin?
"When you lose audio can you unlink the two and drag you audio down to match?"
I only realised after your post how the linking function works - I am able to link and unlink clips on the timeline with no problems. That is actually what I'm going to do from now on if I don't get the 'merge' tool to work.
I am sorry that I sound like somebody who hasn't even read the manual...(Tried that). I am just really used to working with Avid and got this Final Cut Pro project with really short notice - I don't necessarily know some of the functions in FCP, as I don't even know to look for them. The merge tool resembles Avid's AutoSync and that's why I'm trying that first.
Also I am not a native English speaker so I might have explained my case a little vaguely, sorry about that.

Can't get my audio clip to work in Keynote except in edit mode. I've followed Help instructions to the letter. Any suggestions?

Hi Gary - thanks so much for your help. I'd already done that, but finally stumbled across the answer for my situation. I'm new to iMac and this is the first time I used Keynote, so maybe this info will help someone else along the way - I still haven't found this in any of the Keynote documentation or forums I've read.
My slides were all set up with at least one text box in which the text was animated. The sound was the last thing I added to each slide, exactly following the info in Keynote Help re: adding audio. The audio would work when I tested it in Inspector mode, and also if I switched to soundtrack instead. But not if sound was added to each individual slide. Hmmm. After I submitted the question above, I was running through the (auto) slide show one final time to check text, animation, etc. when I noticed that on just one single slide the sound effect came through, but at the very tail end of the slide. Hmm again. Why?
Through trial & error, the answer was in the animation section - not very intuitive re: audio. The steps to correct the issue were: 1) click on the sound icon embedded in each slide, 2) click on the animation tab in Inspector. 3) There's a drop-down menu there that allows you to reposition the audio clip to the #1 spot (if it was added after other "animation"). This allows the sound to begin before the text animation begins on each slide. Before doing this, I guess the sound was in there but the slides were transitioning before it had a chance to play.
Since this is the first time I've used Keynote and it's the most recent version, I'm not sure if this is a new feature to allow users to choose where within a slide to play a sound effect, but I'm guessing that might be why was unable to find any info on how to solve it. Hopefully this will help others who get stumped.
Thanks again for jumping in to help! I really appreciate it.

  • How to get audio clips to play at site but not actually download?

Would like person to be able to listen only to audio clips but not to be able to download clip to add to their iTunes library. In other words, am selling an audio product, and while I'd like people to be able to hear samples at my site (built with iweb), I don't want them to retain clip. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this would be much appreciated!

Stopping people from downloading anything that's published to the internet is virtually impossible.
I would recommend that you first edit your files so that you only have about a one minute clip online....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/AudioFiles/Import.html
Dragging you files onto the iWeb page is not the best way to present them as a large percentage of PC users won't be able to play them. The Wordpress standalone flash player is still about the best way to play audio and you have to know how to get into the source code to be able to download the files....

    Or use a flash jukebox....

For the increasing number of people using iPhone/iPad you can use this dual player....

or have an alternative page using HTML5 players.....

  • FCP7; "unmerge" merged audio and video clips in the timeline?

Our TC was way off in some areas due to a bad timecode lemo on set. My editor synched by slate then merged the video with an audio mixdown track using the in points. Now when I export an EDL the original TC from the audio clip is gone, so he has no reference for matching up the audio. Does anybody know of a way to un-merge these clips and restore the original filename (audio takes the name of merged video but reveals correctly in finder) and timecode? Thanks.

what happens if you match frame the audio?  I would think it would match back to the source audio clip which you could then use to replace the audio in the timeline.

  • Merging multiple audio clips into one

how do i merge (3) sequential audio clips so that they are seen as one audio track the same length as their associated single video track? timecode info was lost during processing so it can't involve timecode points.
i'm just trying to do a simple "link" but with only audio first. then i want to link that linked audio to the video.

ok, that's sort of what i want but it seems to involve rendering and pop up menus for each time i do it. i have dozens and dozens of clips that i want to merge. i guess what i really want is just the "join through edit" feature but for audio. it works for video but not for audio. why is that?

  • How do I break a stereo audio clip to get the left and right separately

$subject really. If I break apart a stereo audio clip I just get track 1, I can't get track 2.
    Thanks

I tried that, but I keep getting "Unsupported Clip" in the channel configuration audio tab of the Inspector.
    Here's my workflow:
    Import Flip cam's h.264/AAC MP4 files
Edit a clip into a project.
Break apart the clip, to give separate video and audio segments
The green audio segment (will have -a1 after the name in the segment) will be say it's an "Unsupported Clip" in the channel configuration audio tab of the Inspector.
If I change the original clip to dual mono before I break apart I get two mono clips, which is what I was after (but then I could just disable one of the dual mono tracks without splitting apart if that was all I wanted).
I suggest that getting an "Unsupported Clip" when I break apart these clips is a bug.

  • Audio is getting choppier as I add clips

    Hi all
My movie (2 hours long) has a fair amount of audio sound effects and music. The overall audio for the movie is now getting very choppy as i add more audio clips.... Is there a limit of audio clips per movie? If I begin deleting audio clips the overall sound is restored.
If so what are my options? Cut the movie into 2 movies? My movie is 42G is it's a pretty big file.
I have 20G of free space on my hard drive.
    Thanks

    Hi Chris
Yes either devide it up (iDVDs limit is 120 minutes includuíng menus Single Layer DVD)
    or mix down the audio.
More than 50 audio clips gives a stuttering result - but -
Export out audio as .aiff (QuickTime expert)
Move the audio clips to one track - they can dwell ontop of each other.
Turn of play-back audio on this and the video track (far right end boxes)
Import the .aiff file and place it on the empty track.
    Now play.
    Smooth and nice.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Video Clips get pushed by Audio Clips

When I add an audio clip to my CC timeline it always pushes my video clips down.  Why is this happening?  It even happens when I lock my video clips.  I'm sure it's something simple but I can't figure it out.  Thanks.

shooternz, I shouldn't have been so presumptious to assume that you should just run to my flickr page and download it.  I hope you didn't take it that way.  I understand your limited time for all of these picky questions.  If there is a better way to get that large detailed screen cap to you, let me know.  I don't know if the Flickr route was appropriate or not.  I'm not sure I would like it if someone just told me to download a big pic from Flickr out of the blue so I applogize if I crossed an ettiquete line.  That wasn't my intention.  Thanks for even considering it.  I don't get the feelilng that my issue is a bug as it's so consistent across all of the targeting/untargeting and sync lock/sync unlock toggling.  It's probably something silly I'm doing and I thought I was fairly competent with Premiere CC.
