Merged folders doesn't work = only dots

Hello,
When start Thunderbird (latest version), all messages are in the merged folder "Mailbox In"
Once I go with the cursor over all the text disappears and there remain only about dots.
How do I fix that?

Problem solved.
I clicked the right mouse button on the Inbox
Flyout Properties
It appeared in "select the folder search" no single folder selected.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

Cannot print with a Samsung ML2160 printer (mono laser) and Pages. Print function doesn't work, only drag and drop in printer's queue

I just purchased a Samsung ML2160 printer and it doesn't work with nor my Pages program, nor the Preview (to print PDF). No matter the way I tried, the Print function doesn't work and I cannot neither print or even enter the printer preferrences menu! My MacBook Pro has worked before with other printers, but now with the Samsung it doesn't work at all... Though, if I drag and drop a document, jpg, pdf in the printer queue, it prints just fine, but that method gives me absolutely no freedom to the printing... Could it be something from the Computer -> Machintosh HD -> Library -> Printers? Because a friend of mine was recently trying to save me some disk space, and therefore erasing part of the HP printer (to remove the previous printer I owned)...
If anyone has any idea, that would be much appreciated

Do the sensible thing, as you say neither Preview nor Pages print, try other programs eg TextEdit. If none of them print then it is a System problem and very likely the printer drivers are AWOL or were never installed.

Match-Frame with merged clip doesn't work

I have a merged clip forged from one video clip (with four channels of audio) and two audio clips, so the resulting merged clip has six channels of audio.
Merged via in-point, everything's in synch, fine.
Edit the merged clip into timeline.
Match frame.
Problem:
It matches to a clip with the same name as my merged clip... but it's not my merged clip because it's only got the four audio channels from my video source clip.
I've tried different clips, tried linked or unlinked, same result.
To boot, if in the timeline I select only audio channel #5 (which was from one of the audio source clips) and match-frame, it matches to the same pseduo-master clip, but, is several frames or seconds off.
Ideas anyone?

Interesting... if I make a merged clip and name it "Apple" then place it in the timeline, the timeline clip is also named Apple. If I then in the browser change the clip's name to "Brother" and put it again in the timeline, it puts in a clip called "Apple"; and the first clip in the timeline is also still called Apple. But if I delete the Apple clips from timeline, and now put in Brother clip, it puts in a clip called Brother..... as if it's not updating the name-change. So that's weird.
But, none of the name-changing affects the match-fame problem; it still fails.

IMAP sync server folders doesn't work

I have IMAP set up w/ my mail service, fastmail. I can download my inbox, but I can't download any other folders. In particular I have a filter set up on fastmail to move some email to a folder and I would like to sync that w/ my palm TX. The only folder that seems to get synced is inbox. Any suggestions?

I have used IMAP IDLE for years with no problem having new mail sound. However in the last few days the alert sound has stopped working. I guess its related to a software update we had recently.
Very annoying to loose the alert sound.

Sound output doesn't work - only builtin speakers

Ok... I just got my macbook for a few weeks.
Wanted to connect my external logitech speakers. Didn't work, didn't even flinch.
Neither do my headphones/earbuds work. I don't see any red light also.. it doesn't do anything, really weird. Anybody else having this problem?

At preferences, audio there is only internal speakers. No output device..
But at input there is the line-in though. Just not at output.

the shortcut i has never worked with my computer, (MacBook Pro 2013 OSX 10.9). regardless of whether i use premiere pro cs6 or cc, whether i set my keyboard to british or german. it only works if i press the fn key, sometimes doesn't even work then, then i have to use a button/mouse. but if i go to Premiere Pro > Keyboard shortcuts it is listed that it should work.
(actually i think i used to have the same problem with my former mbp and final cut pro 7. but i'm not 100% sure about that...)
this is really quite annoying and i would appreciate any advice!

Just for understanding: you press the letter "i" on the keyboard to "set Inpoint" right? What happens if you plug an external keyboard?
Some Shortcuts use the numpad (eg move selected clips on timeline by 12 frames forward/backward type "+" or "-" and "12" on the numpad) and "fn+i" is something on the numpad i guess.

Firefox (Linux) crashes as soon as it "starts" and the saved tabs won't go away no matter what, profilemanager doesn't work, only opens another firefox.

My firefox on linux ubuntu 9.1 ALWAYS crashes on startup. But only on my regular logon (is it another Profile?), it says hrtimer_nanosleep on system monitor on the firefox_bin. It just did that one time and i can't get it to work. It crashes as soon as i start firefox with the tabs that were upp when it started crashing. Safe-mode is tested and did not work. I saw something about deleting / create new profile. but when i type in firefox -ProfileManager its only starts up another firefox that crashes. And i also saw that someone erased a file named secmod.db. I do NOT have this file. The whole firefox/mozilla files are all messed up in my system but where do i find the profile? It's all a mess this thing. and it's making me kinda pissed.

Mail password doesn't work only with my Airport unit with MacBook, iPhone, iPad

Starting a couple of weeks ago, and every week for a few hours, my mail password will be rejected on my MacBook, iPad and iPhone when connected through my Airport Extreme. I'm not sure whether this is related to the firmware upgrade I did two weeks ago. It had never happened before.
The password is correct. When I connect from any of these devices through another network, it works fine. The problem only occurs with Mail, and only through my particular Airport Extreme (4th generation N) unit.
All other Internet access through this unit works fine.
The mail account is an IMAP account through Intermedia. An Exchange account with Intermedia (a separate mailbox) works fine on both my computer using Microsoft Outlook and iPhone Mail.
The last time this happened, the problem randomly fixed itself within a few hours. Now it's happening again.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Fixed itself again two hours later. Intermedia is not reporting any problems and since the other mail account (on the same server) works fine, I don't think it relates to them.

Drag & drop regions into existing folders doesn't work?! Bug?

Here is a direct quote from the logic manual on what I want to do and how it should be done:
Adding and Removing Regions from Folders
You can easily add regions to, or remove regions from, an existing folder. This is fairly commonplace as you will often experiment with your arrangement, and find that you need to add or remove parts.
To move regions into a folder
At the top level of the Arrange hierarchy (outside the folder) drag the regions onto the folder, at the desired position.
If the folder does not already contain a track that uses the same channel as the source region, Logic Pro creates one. If it does, this channel is used. When you enter the folder, you see the dragged regions at the drop position.

When I do this, it moves the midi region but does NOT create "a track that uses the same channel as the source region," like it should! However, if I use the Pack folder command, it DOES create the necessary tracks.
Any ideas? Are folders broken in Logic 9.1.3? Can someone try the following and report back:
1. Create a new logic session and add 4 files from the loop browser (2 blue audio loops, 2 green apple loops).
2. Select one of the audio and one of the midi and run key commend -"pack folder" (go into the folder and you should see both the regions and their tracks are now in the folder)
3. exit the folder and now try individually dragging (just like the manual says you can) the remaining audio file and midi file from the arrange page into the folder.
The result (in my song at least) is a new track called "no output," when according to the manual it should duplicate the track that the region came from in the folder!
Seems like a bug to me, and I would appreciate it if someone could verify it. Thanks

I've experienced this bug, and others, Jonathan. I stopped trying to drag anything in or out of folders several versions ago--just too buggy. Would be great if this functionality gets fixed, but from your report... we're still waiting.
I've found that folders work great as long as you stick to the pack and unpack feature. Too bad this is one of the many areas in which Logic claims to have more features than it does in practice...

Playlists with folders - doesn't work

Brandnew iPod 30 GB, 5.5
Do have playlists with folders on iTunes 7.0.2. Folders don't appear on the iPod. Only the files in the folders. So i get a long long list of playlists on the iPod. Instead of a list with several folders in it for better overview.
Any hints? Thank you.

WRT120N - DMZ works, port forwarding doesn't work; only one device allowed in DMZ

Hi,
I have an WRT120N router and two DVRs. I can get either one of the DVRs to work just fine if I put it in the DMZ. Neither one works when I enable port forwarding. Since I cannot have two devices in the DMZ with this router, I cannot use that approach (throwing them in the DMZ) as a viable solution.
I need help finding out what I am doing incorrectly with the port forwarding. Basically I am creating an entry for each port of each device, going to the correct IP address of that device. I have tried both protocols as well as just TCP. This does not work. Just for fun, I tried using the port range forwarding and this does not work either. The only thing that works is if I throw either of the devices in the DMZ.
So what I have essentially is this:
DEVICE1 / 192.168.0.120 (internal) / PORT 999 / works great in DMZ but not in port fwd
DEVICE2 / 192.168.0.121 (internal) / PORT 456 / works great in DMZ but not in port fwd
I have used Wireshark from a remote computer to observe what happens when I navigate to the URL that I need, such as http://myjunk.ddnsprovider.xyz:999 (where 999 is the port on which the device in question serves). I don't see anything out of the ordinary. (I assume there is no way to run a packet sniffer on the router.) (Can we "telnet" into the router, btw?)
So either I am doing something wrong, or there is a need for a router software update, or the router is blocking some other protocol, etc. Help is much appreciated! BTW, tried with the router firewall off, too. No go.

Whats the current firmware installed on your router? Have you tried to upgrade the firmware on your Router?

ITunes 11 0 1 - installed, doesn't work, only appears as a screenshot

Yet another Epic Fail from iTunes - I've just spent well over an hour updating to what supposedly is the latest version, re-starting comp twice, only to find iTunes completely inoperable - this is the second time in a week I've had to update - is it really asking too much of iTunes to release something that actually works?
I can open files in itunes from Explorer, but cannot access any iTunes functions as they all appear in light grey - apart from the Exit command. Zero stars.

Hi - I only had iTunes open in a small window - when I maximised, there was an option down to the left to do with sharing libraries - one blue box, one white - just click on yes or no thanks, and it should spring into life. I'd been expecting to see the old dialog box of having to agree to the new terms and conditions, after which one could operate iTunes- hence my temporary bemusement. Hope that helps.

QT format doesn't work, only dvstream. Resulting DVDs look terrible. Help!

I'm really frustrated with this. For years I've been using my Avid Xpress DV to edit and exported a host of movies during that time using the DVstream format and for the most part it's been acceptable. For some reason I never understood, any time I attempted to use quicktime movie as the format I have never been able to get it to work. The audio works fine, but the video is not there. It's either blank or I get a solid green screen. So, as I said I'd always used dvstream. The problem is I just did 110 minute African safari documentary and the footage looks great. But when I burned DVDs the compression looked terrible. The blacks become milky, there is very noticeable compression and it looks soft, a hollow imitation of the original DV format footage. Not at all the way it should look. I am using iDVD 8 on the "professional setting." I even cut the sequence in half to around 50 minutes and exported and burned a DVD and it looked EXACTLY the same. So I thought maybe I am using the wrong settings to export. I read around the web and was reminded of what others had been using as settings. Everyone seems to be using QT movies! I tried again to export and chose QT, picking avidDV as the video compressor and uncompressed audio. I used 720 by 480 (had been using 540) picked the recommended field (I believe the top choice) chose the 601 color etc and the same **** thing happens. In fact, when I preview the DVD in iDVD8 you can see that it won't display the video track while the audio track plays fine. I have the Avid codec installed in case that's an issue. I refuse to accept that this is the best I can get this DVD to look. It's an insult to all of our work. So I'd be tremendously grateful for any and all help or advice in this matter. I'm now sitting on my hands, at a loss to fix this. I do not have the option of using another program other than iDVD so please keep the response aware of this. Sure it;d be nice to buy a new program but it's not going to happen. THANKS!

I kind of suspected that beside the fact that I consider myself fairly smart about this stuff this was actually a fairly simple problem to fix and that in my panic trying to resolve this for hours and hours I was overlooking something obvious. Despite the fact that I thought I had put the avid codec manually into what I thought was the proper system folder, a download from Avid ti install the latest codecs into my macbook pro fixed it. Now I'm ready to burn and see if the discs look better. Fingers crossed...
