  • MY system folder, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac) How do I remove them

    I have a Macbook Pro running Leopard 10.5.8. I had a problem with my my operating system (my fault, I moved a file I shoudnt have) couldnt boot up but was able to boot up from a backup. I managed to repair my original system except now all the system folders, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac).  For the most part the dupes are an exact copy, but not always.  I want to remove them to free up space and cant imagine duplicate folders in the /system/library are not hindering my computer. But I dont know where to start and am afraid of doing irreparable damage. Any ideas

  • Pkg cannot install files in the Mountain Lion OS after Mavericks installation

    I installed Mavericks on second partition while Mountain Lion was installed in first partition.
    After 2 OS are ready and can be booted, I found any pkg cannot install files in the 10.8 OS, can I can solve it?
    Thanks.

    Sorry, I can't tell from your description what is going on. Are you allowed to choose the destination, or does it just install? Perhaps the package is poorly configured and has hard-coded install paths.
    Do all installers have the same problem?
    Unfortunately, I do not have a drive partitioned like that to test.

  • Some folders and files are 'missing' in lion.

    When I restore them from my SL back up they disappear from there as well. Help

    I'm having serious issues with the LION Upgrade being not only glitchy but now Complete Folders are vanishing from my hard drive.
    I keep a template folder, for speed, on my desktop which I use to start new projects for every client I have.  The main folder labled "jobTEMPLATE"  contains 6 seperate folders Labled Email, JPEGs, PDFs, PSDs, SOURCE, and WEB as well as one blank text.rtf message.
    I duplicate the TEMPLATE folder - name it with the new project and I'm off to the races.
    I just tried to do the same thing a few minutes ago and the Template folder I always use is completely EMPTY!!
    Thank God I backed that folder up on my external because I have client work in progress which is now gone from the desktop!
    Is anyone else having similar issues?  Am I going nuts??
    On an aside, I am also having issues with my magic mouse not liking Lion at all.  My screen will start to pull to the right to go to Mission Controll on its own and / or minimize the entire screen showing multiple windows.
    I am not a happy MACer at the moment!

  • I have a mac air. I stupidly did something to it. Don't even know myself but I lost everything and cannot get the Mountain Lion back. Am up a creek and have to buy what was given to me when I purchased the machine?

    I have a Mac Air. I stupidly did something that wiped out the machine and I managed (wow) to get the system back only with the old operation system that was a free upgrade at the time I bought this. Help! Do I have to purchase a new one now? Thanks

    If you paid for OS 10.8 at any time, you can get it again at no cost from the App store. You will need to use the same Apple id that you used for the purchase.

  • How to print a list of the folders and files in a higher level folder?

    I want to print out a list of the files that I have in a folder. It contains a nested series of folders with files in each. I want to print a list of folders and files in the same order that I see them on the screen. I'm seeing them in the finder in List format.
    If I select all, copy, then paste into a word processor, I get all the files and folder names reorganized alphabetically, which I don't want. Also, I don't get the file size or date modified when I do this.
    I'd prefer not doing 30+ screen shots then having to print them all individually.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Brad

    There is also DiskCatalogMaker (http://diskcatalogmaker.com/) even better than PrintWindow in my estimation

  • How get SharePoint Library Folders and Files directory structure in to my custom web site.

    Hi,
    Actually my requirement is, I would like to pass site name and document library name as a parameter and get a folders and files from the document library and form the directory structure by using Treeview control in my web site.
    How should i get? Using Web service / object model?
    Web service would return the dataset as a result so from that how could i form the directory structure using Treeview control.
    I will select specified files and folders then i ll update sharepoint document library columns for corresponding selected files.

    Hello,
    Here is the code to iterate through sites and lists:
    //iterate through sites and lists
    SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate()
    using (SPSite site = new SPSite(webUrl)) {
    using (SPWeb oWebsite = site.OpenWeb())
    SPListCollection collList = oWebsite.Lists;
    foreach (SPList oList in collList)
    {//your code goes here }
    Then use RecursiveAll to get all files and folders.

  • Assigning folders and files to different physical disks OS X 10.9

    My mid 2010 iMac 27 i7 quadcore, 32 GB memory has two 1 TB SSDs and several 2 to 3 TB 7200 / 5200 SATA, Firewire, LAN and USB external HDs. I would like to direct OS X 10.9 to use frequently accessed System data/images (boot, OS X, utilities and and their attendant folders and files) from SSD 1 and frequently used / accessed applications and their attendant folders and files on the second SSD 2. (I use Microsft Office Word and Excel frequently and also Windows 7 running on VMWare.) Then I would like to keep less frequently used applications and their attendant folders and files on the SATA 7200 external disk (USB 3.0 to 2.0), photos on a fourth external disk (firewire 800), music on a NAS (Raid 1, 1000Gb Ethernet), and movies on a fifth external HD (firewire 800). What I need to know is how to "assign" these various files to a physical disk. Please, I am not looking for opinions and/or guesses. I am looking for a strategy known to work and/or utilites known do set this up easily and correctly. Thanks in advance. BTW, I am a retired OS programmer and software/HW knowlegable. I have no Unix (or of course Apple OS X) programming experience, but have written and modified many other OSs. So one can be reasonably technical with me in their answers. Thanks again, Skip.

    Hope this helps.

  • MSN Premium Local Folders and files

    My XP machine quit but the HD is OK and contains my local folders and files for Verizon DSL MSN Premium. I have located the folders and files on the old HD, but can't determine how and where I should move them to on the new WIn7 computer. The folders and files have unusual file extensions.  I've successfully reloaded MSN Premium on my new machine and e-mail send and receive is OK. I have at least a 100 local folders and 1500 e-mails so I need to automate the move process.  Since my old computer is no longer functional I can't use Microsoft Easy Transfer to move the folders and files from the old computer to the new one.

    The UNC path is the easiest approach and should work. You can then use your standard (Non SharePoint specific) Move-Item etc. commandlets.
    To use the SharePoint PowerShell snapin you need to be running the commands on the SharePoint server with a highly privileged account. There are some nice tricks you can do if you're doing that but they probably aren't relevant to you.
    The UNC Path is generally the URL to the folder with the forward slashes turned to backward slashes.
    http://webapplication.domain.com/sites/sitecollection/subsite/documentLibrary/default.aspx
    becomes
    \\webapplication.domain.com\sites\sitecollection\subsite\documentLibrary\
    Note that you have to chop off a bit of the URL on the end so it's just to the document library but that's about the only tricky bit.

  • Preparing for Mountain Lion - what folders and files should be saved?

    Hi gang,
    Although some of you make think this is obvious, it really is not. In preparation for Mountain Lion, I curious what folders and files (other than the obvious) should I move off to another drive? I'm going to do a clean install this time around. I'll probably do an upgrade first to understand any gotcha's when I upgrade my wife's MBP later, then do a clean install.
    I'm going to move the documents, my Aperture and iPhoto libraries, but I'm unsure about the iTunes folder and my movies and such. Most of my software has come from the App Store, so I don't need to worry aobut those, and the few other programs I have the software for (iWork, iLife, but we'll probably need new versions of those.
    I just preparing a list to make sure that I get everthing.
    Thanks, Mark

    When doing a clean install OS upgrade I like to swap out the time machine drive, storing/retiring the old time machine as a backup of the old system while keeping it's Time Machine history.
    So personally what I do is:
    #1 clone my boot drive to an external (at this point I have two backups Time Machine + a clone)
    #2 wipe the boot drive and install new OS on it (at this point I still have two copies of my data TM + clone)
    #3 verifiy the old time machine is accessible from the new boot drive (sometimes due to ownership/permissions/filevault this is a problem so check even if migrating from clone)
    #4 selectively migrate files from clone or TM to new install
    #5 Start a new time machine of the new OS drive (sometimes I'll wipe the clone at this point and use it, prefering to keep the old TM as a archived backup)
    One note, I've burned myself at least once forgetting that I'd excluded some parts of my old drive from Time Machine drive (usually Podcasts, Movies), so pay attention to that before relying on it.

  • File sharing between Mountain Lion and Windows XP

    I have both a Windows XP computer and a Mac running Mountain Lion.  I have been able to set up sharing so that I can see the Windows folders on my Mac and the Mac folders on my Windows computer, but I cannot write directly to the folders from either direction.
    What am I missing?

    Bear with me ... I've not gone through this before and am only going by instinct.
    I assume that since you can see the folder on your Mac, you have File Sharing set to use Windows SMB protocol.
    If you put a file on your Mac in the shared folder, can you copy out that file on the Windows system and paste it (to the Desktop) to get access? What about going the other way?
    IOW, can you at least get access in both directions to bring a file out of the Shared folder and on to the local system (where it can be changed)?
    My other suggestion is to enable Remote Login and set up SFTP access. Then, try writing to the Mac folder on the Windows XP side with a program that supports SFTP from Windows XP.

    Dear  MAC-Friends.
    PLEASE HELP ME.
    I am extremely afraid to do something wrong - what will be a failure so I loose all the photos I had in my iphoto library before installing the Mountain Lion.
    I have just installed the MOUNTAIN-LION and now I can´t use my Iphoto-programme without answering the following question:
    Choose another Library ?  ( But I only want the choose the photos which one was in the old iPhoto-Library and not the other photos on the MAC-computer ? ).
    and the other possibility is:
    Create a new Libray ! Which iPhoto-library  ?
    And why create a new and to risq to loose the old photos.
    PLEASE HELP ME.
    Kind regards  FINN GRABOWSKI

    Ok. Let me first ask you, do you have any backups of your files - for example, do you use Time Machine or any other backup system?
    Next, quit iPhoto. In the Finder, go to your Pictures folder. Is there a file there called iPhoto.Library? How large is it? (If it doesn't show the size, click once on it, click cmd-I to see the information). If it's a healthy size (ie, several GB), then that should be your library, and you can double-click it to launch iPhoto. (The application will remember where your library is next time, you can just launch iPhoto normally).
    If that's not the right file, check your Trash. Is there anything in there?
