Merging iMovies

I'm trying to merge several iMovie projects into one using copy and paste. The problem I have is that the soundclips get shifted, even though they are locked in the individual projects.
I tried the recommendation to export the project to FQ DV and the import it again in the combined project, but during the export the widescreen (DV-PAL-WIDESCREEN) gets squeezed into 4:3.
I would like to use the copy and paste function. Any tips as how to keep the soundclips in place? Is iLife 06 any better for this?
Thanks!

Re-import the 12 iMovies back into iMovie as new events then combine them all into one new project.
There is no 'play all' in iDVD and 12 movies may be outside of the capacity of importing them as a slideshow in iDVD which will play them all - that may be worth a try though.

  • Merging iMovie 10 events, projects and library...

I had my prior version iMovie events and projects on a nonstartup internal drive (in folders "iMovie Events" and "iMovie Projects").  I hadn't used iMovie in a while, and iMovie had updated itself to version 10.0.5.  Last night I opened it up and used it, and now have an "iMovie Events," "iMovie Projects," and "iMovie Library" file in ~/Documents/Movies
I'd like to move the contents of the new Events and Projects folder to the nonstartup internal drive location with all the projects and events (old and new) in those folders on the nonstartup drive.  From what I've read, that is supposed to be done within iMovie, but I don't see how to do that.  The drive does NOT show up anywhere within iMovie!
Secondly, I only seem to have one iMovie Library file, and it is in ~/Documents/Movies, but when iMovie 10 opened, there were no events or projects listed.  How do persuade iMovie 10 to load the old projects and events?  If I open up iMovie 9.0.9, it shows the projects and events that were created under 9.0.9 but does NOT show the 10.0.5 projects and events.  Is the 9.0.0 iMovie Library file in a different location, and if so, is there a way to merge the contents of these libraries?

Basically no.  Projects are now part of events and not separate from them.
    Geoff.

  • Merging imovie libraries

We originally set up our Mac with 2 user accounts, one for me and one for my wife, but now we are moving everything into one account to save disk and generally make life easier. Problem: we both have our own iMovie projects. How do we merge both sets of projects and events into one library? It is the last item on my list, after which I can delete the second user.
    Thanks in advance.

This would be much easier if you have access to an external drive. The drive can be either Firewire or USB, but it must be formatted as MacOS Extended (journaled) - not FAT32.
Open iMovie. Click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK.
In the iMovie Project Library List, hold down the Command Key and drag the Project to the icon for the external disk.
File the Project selected, select FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA. with this command you can move all EVENTS used in the project, as well as all music files used in the project to the external drive.
    See iMovie Help for details.
Once every project and associated events are all on the external drive, you can reverse the process and move them to your oght account on the internal drive. Or, if you prefer, you can keep them on the external drive, where both accounts will be able to see them.

  • Merge imovie events taken on different days

I was in Florida a few years ago for 7 days.  My imovie event library shows in individual days.  How do I merge those days or should I.  I am now getting around to working on them in my project library.

Under the View menu, unchecking "Show Separate Days in Events" should do the trick!

  • Can i merge iMovie library to FCP ?

i have imac not so much hard drive space
is it possible i can use one library imovie and FCP  ?
    share events  and projects
so that i dont have to create whole new librray takes all my hd space?
i was just wonderfing if its possible
    any idea?

    Yes it is possible.
When you import iMovie Events into FCP, it uses HARD LINKS to the media clips. This means that you will have an iMovie Event clip that is hard linked to the actual clip on the drive. The FCP Event will have a separate hard link to the same physical clip. This means you can use the clip in both iMovie and in FCP without doubling up on disk space. It also means that if you delete an event from iMovie, you do not regain any disk space unless you also delete it from Final Cut Pro. Only when all hard links have been removed can you reclaim space.
When you do this in iMovie 11 (Version 9) and FCP version 10.0.8, you can import the entire iMovie Event Library all at once. It does not take long because it is not copying, it is just creating the hard links.
If you are using iMovie version 10 (the new one) and Final Cut Pro 10.1, Then it still uses hard links, but the procedure is different. iMovie version 10 and FCP 10.1 both use a new Library Structure. In this case you initiate the sharing of a project to FCP 10.1 from iMovie, rather than from within FCP.

  • Merging projects in imovie, possibly using quicktime

I hope someone can give me some clues here: I have created a series of projects that I now want to merge into one so that I can send it to iDVD. I don't want to just copy and paste into a master project for two reasons: firstly I've found that if a project is too long a lot of the clips are very jerky and freeze for split seconds - very unnerving to watch. (these are video clips taken on a still camera, rather than a camcorder; I don't know if that makes a difference to the jerkiness)
And secondly, I have worked on the individual projects with music fitting each bit, and of course the music doesn't transfer when you cut and paste.
I searched for advice for an earlier project and read that exporting to make a Quicktime movie and then reimporting was the answer, and that worked beautifully.
However, when I did the same on this one, and try to play back the Quicktime movies, there is no sound. I am getting very frustrated and would be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions.
    Thanis.

PS: I don't know if it's relevant; it's iMovie 09; my Mac is an iMac G5 and I have increased the memory to 2GB.
    Thanks again for any help

  • Merging projects in iMovie

Has Apple come up with a better way to merge projects in iMovie yet besides exporting them as movies and then re-importing them as events and then putting them together?  It really feels like there should be a better solution by now.

  • Merging clips in iMovie?

    Hello.
I am currently making a DVD with content from my nephew's birthday a few days ago... in iDVD I would like to make a button that says "watch movie" but if I don't merge the video files in iMovie, it is going to make a link for each video clip...
So, how do I merge files in iMovie so I can extract it into a .dv-file to use in iDVD?
    Best regards
    Jesper Pedersen

Actually, as it turns out, I figured it out.  All imported clips have an a default "fade in" and "fade out setting".  Need to change that to zero, and the gap is gone.

  • How do I merge two iMovie Libraries?

Over time, I created two iMovie libraries - one on my external drive and one on my iMac.  I have moved both libraries to the external drive and now I want to merge them into one library.  I have not any success with Consolidate.

    Hi theforsh,
You can move events and clips between iMovie libraries in order to consolidate them. See this article for further information -
iMovie (2013): Work with multiple libraries
In particular this section - Copy or move projects, events, or clips between libraries or hard disks
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Merge Events Crashes iMovie '11

I have been searching to an answer to this problem for months. I organize my iMovie events by month, which involves a fair amount of splitting and merging events. Back in the August/September, 2012 timeframe, I could no longer merge events without iMovie '11 (9.08) crashing every time. It starts just fine, sets up the merged event, then just quits. No forum of any kind has discussed this same kind of problem. I had not, as far as I can tell, made any changes to my configuration betwen when this worked and when it didn't.
    I have an iMac, 20-inch, Mid 2007 running OS X 10.8.2.
    Things I have tried:
    1. Checked memory (I have 4GB, so no issues) and hard drive space (also no issues 302 GB available).
    2. Reloaded iMovie. No change.
    3. Reloaded Mountain Lion. No change.
    4. Moved two events to an external drive and then tried from there. No change. Still crashes.
    5. Looked at all of the other causes for crashes of iMovie and took those steps (deleted plists, ivx, etc...). Nothing works.
I just can't find any relief from this problem. Nothing I do seems to have even the slightest impact.
Has anybody has this problem and/or know how to fix it?
    Thanks!
    Ted

I am not entirely surprised this isn't considered a known issue. I was unable to find any evidence of others having the problem, at least until you posted this morning. I was really relieved to see I am not alone, although I am sorry you are having the same frustrations.
I did report the error to Apple on at least a dozen occaisions with a fully annotated error report each time it crashed. Or maybe 12 out of the 50 crashes. I can readily reproduce the problem, and moving the movies to another drive didn't change the behavior.
I ended up spending a few hours reimporting all my video since August, 2012, and now everything is aligned properly. And I'll continue to do the same workaround going forward. But I would like the program to work as designed.
It is now a known issue since you reported it? If not, is there a way I should be reporting it as well?

  • How to merge audio in a clip during video editing in iMovie?

    How and tnxs for reading.
    Here the question:
I have a video file which has a bad audio R track and a good audio L one. I would like to edit the video, standard operations like cut, merge, etc...
However I would like to take the audio R track out. Since I do not see any available feature for this I exported the audio track to another audio software and did the operation there. After that I imported the audio L track only in my iMovie (v 10) project, aligned to the clip, I deleted the original audio from the clip, and now I have a perfect project with the original clip with a good audio track.
However, since I would like to work now on the project itself, it'd be great to merge the audio (which is now separated) to the clip, in order to maintain the proper audio with the clip during my cut/paste/etc operations. Is there any special feature I can use for this?
If not, I know I can export the project to a new video file and then open a new iMovie project where I can import the new video file and start again from it, but I am wondering if there is an easier way since in my opinion I had to do already to much work for an easy op like this which would have been fixed easily with the old versions of iMovie.
    Tnxs.

    Thanks for your reply!
While your answer is helpful, it's not a desired solution for me because the comp track is one channel of a multi-channel recording (two different mics).  I don't want to drag a new take into the comp track because the comp track is grouped with other comp tracks for editing purposes, and I don't want to disturb the editing I've already done.
It seems like I "should" be able to select a region in the arrange window and "re-link" the file to any other file in the audio bin (thereby replacing the file with the other).  After years of working in graphic layout programs, such as Adobe InDesign, I'm expecting this sort of feature to exist already.  I'm pretty sure I've seen it before... but I've used Cubase, Digital Performer, Studio One and Pro Tools, and I'm not sure where I saw it.
Have I described what I'm looking for clearly?  I'm not sure it's coming across in what I've written.  Can Logic do this?

  • In iMovie HD 6 can you merge both DV widescreen and HD in the same movie?

I have a Sony HDR-FX1 and have shot both formats and would like to now merge them into the same movie. In my old iMovie it does not appear to allow me to import both formats it will say camera not connected when the camera is set to a different format to what the movie contains.
    Any Suggestions?
    Sam

For Photos, just drag the photo to the clip where you want it.
For video, see this article for how to do b-roll.

  • Merging multiple iMovie projects

Is it possible to merge multiple imovie projects into one? Or is it possible to merge them into one continuous playing movie in iDVD?

    Hi:
It's a little tedious but the brute force way is to open the first project and save it under a new name. Then open the second. Then literally copy the timeline from the second to the first. Repeat for the third project and so on. It takes some time as the copying process duplicates all the content into the new combined project. This obviously will take a lot of disk storage space! Maybe someone else knows if there is a way to do this working directly with the project files..
Another alternative is to use Roxio's Toast to burn a DVD by simply adding each of the projects individually into Toast. What you lose here is the ability to have the themes and so forth from iDVD but you will get the projects on a single DVD, and they will play in the order.
I am sure someone else has some better ideas about this. I would be interested too as I am in a process of making several small iMovies and want to combine them into several variations.

  • Merge Projects in iMovie ?

Would like to merge two or more Projects into one in iMovie. Has any one done it successfully and simply?

Yes, I tried this, but all the extra editing of the copied & pasted project like titles & additional sound are not copied (or pasted). Just the edited (master-) clips. I would have to copy & paste all the extra title- & sound cuts separately, I guess?

  • Impact on merging iPhoto events on iMovie projects?

I have made several iMovie projects, primarily using photos from various related events in iPhoto.  If I merge the iPhoto events where the pictures are currently located, will the iMovie projects be impacted / ruined / need to be started over?
I am working with the last iMovie and iPhoto BEFORE iLife '11 (have not upgraded to '11 out of fear of losing photos, etc.).  OS s/b most up-to-date Snow Leopard version.  Hardware is a MacBook Pro purchased in summer 2010.

iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - is the only solution currently to merge events between different computers
