Merging iTunes accounts or editing information on an iTunes account

I had an iTunes account before I got my MacBook Pro and they have different IDs. The first account has all my purchased music and I would like to use it with my new computer. When I try to download music of the previous account from the Cloud, I get the message that the iTunes account information differs from the computer. Can the first account be edited, or can the two be merged without losing anything or having to buy again?

ed,
first, thank you for your help. Now, let me see if I can answer your questions. The iTunes account was was created when I owned a PC and an iPod. I just recently got a MacBook and created an ID for it without knowing there would be a conflict with the new ID and iTunes. I have authorized the computer with the iTunes account and when I click to download from the Cloud I get the message:
"This computer is already associated with an Apple ID.
If you download past purchases with your Apple ID, you cannot auto-download or download past purchases with a different Apple ID for 90 days.
cancel transfer"
I just want to be clear about what this means. The only ID I would be using is my computer, so why would 90 days matter? Does this mean I can download music from my iTunes account to my computer without having to buy it again? If that is the case, I wouldn't need the original account anymore after downloading and would only be using my computer's ID for all future purchases. Does that sound right?
Thanks,

To everyone that is having this problem:
I just ended a 2 hour session with Apple Tech Support. We had to take it to a level 2 support person, but finally got it running. Here's what she had me do. Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Uninstall ALL Apple products on the Computer. This inccluded Apple Mobile Device Itunes, Bonjour and Quicktime. I doubt if we would have had to but she had me download a fresh copy of iTunessetup.exe and run it. iTunes came up and ran on version 11.1.4. Then I reinstalled Quicktime.
It is my personal opinion that there is a flaw in version 11.1.4. You shouldn't have to go through all of these hoops just to update a single application that was working fine proir to the update attempt.
That's what worked for me. Hope this helps you. Any questions, get back to me.
Good Luck.

• Merging iTunes accounts

I have two Apple iTune accounts: one under <edited by host> .... I have purchased items on both and would like to merge the accounts so that my purchases will all be under the same account which I would like to be <edited by host> Is this possible? I hope it is ...

It's not currently possible to merge accounts, nor to transfer content from one account to another account - content will remain tied to the account that originally bought/downloaded it.
As these are user-to-user forums I've asked the hosts to remove your account ids from your post.

• I have two itunes accounts both with purchased songs. how can I merge two accounts?

I have two Itunes accounts I want to merge. both have song libraries.

iTunes Store accounts can't be merged.
To merge iTunes libraries, import the content and playlists from one to the other. Any purchased content in either will remain associated with the original iTunes Store account.

You cannot merge Apple ID accounts, that has never been supported.
You can contact the Apple ID Security folks per the listing in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699 and they can help reset security questions and get the account working.

• Merging iTunes libraries/accounts

My kids used to have a a Windows PC but it died. I bought a new iMac for myself and I am passing down my G4 iMac to the kids. On the windows PC, they each had their own log in, so they each had to have a separate iTunes library. Additionally, they each have their own iTunes account. I have managed to get all of the info from the PC transferred to the iMac. It is all in a separate folder waiting for me to intergrate it into the different programs on the iMac.
Here are my questions.
a) I would like to merge all of the iTunes libraries into one. Is it possible for use to have four iTunes Store accounts that feed into one iTunes library?
b)If we can merge the accounts into one library, would we be able to listen to and to share all of the music in the libray or would we need to sign in and out of the indiviual accounts?
c) I shudder think of how much money we have wasted by buying the same version of the same songs at the iTunes Store. If we merge all of the libraries, what happens to the dozens of duplicate songs that were purchased by more than one of the accounts?
d) If we do not merge the libraries, how difficult is it to switch between libraries in iTunes?
Thanks!

Thanks!
My Mac Pro just arrived yesterday. Fortunately, I had kept my Library on an exernal FW drive; everything transferred very quickly to the new Mac while I snoozed last night. This morning, I decided to listen to some tunes but couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get my Library recognized by iTunes. I thought I'd have to spend the entire morning searching the forum for the answer, which I should already know because I had to do it last year when I moved everything to the external drive.
Again, many many thanks!

• Merging iTunes accounts & contents

My wife & I have separate iTunes accounts on the same pc. We would like to merge into one account & be bales to share each others music , videos, etc ow do I do this please? staurt

It's not quite as straightforward as merging two accounts, which is technically not permitted. However, you can upgrade one of your music libraries to iTunes Plus (preferably the smaller of the two), then copy the music to the other library. This will place all your music in the same library.
Other purchases (such as apps) are inexorably tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them. For that there is no workaround.

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

• How do I merge itunes libraries?

How do I merge itunes libraries from two separate accounts?

Why are you posting a second thread with the same question. This one isn't any clearer than your first post.
What do you mean "merge itunes libraries from two separate accounts"? You have an iPod listed. Are you talking about getting music from two separate iTunes libraries on two separate computers? Are you talking about getting iTunes purchased music on a single iPod from two separate Apple/iTunes IDs?
What is it that you are wanting to do? If you do not take the time to explain what it is you are wanting to accomplish, then you are not going to get the information you need to do it. We are not mind readers.

Hello Stormjib,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning iTunes Library issues. Your iTunes media folder may have been move or modified, which would explain why you can only see media in the cloud:

• How to merge 2 accounts

I have an apple id under my gmail.com address. I just started using iCloud for my email. I would to update my email address on my original ID from [email protected] to [email protected] Since when you create a new iCloud account it makes a completely new apple ID for you it won't let you do that. I would like to either merge the accounts or somehow make one account under the @me.com address.
I was maybe thinking I could delete the @me account then some how change the @gmail acount to a @me account.
Btw Both accounts have the exact same address execpt the domain. example: [email protected] and [email protected]

iTunes/AppStore/iBook - purchased items DRM system stores the Apple-ID in its items, so all purchases are hardcoded to the Apple-ID once used to buy stuff.
I think THAT is the true problem.
I sit in the same boat. Used msn.com Apple-ID for purchases and now have a Me.com,too. Want only One but also do not want to lose my apps and songs worth over 200 Euros.

• Merging two accounts on one computer

I recently discovered that my teenage daughter had created her own iTunes account on my computer and we have been purchasing songs via that iTunes account. I would like to delete that account but not lose the songs. Is there a way to consolidate these accounts and the songs into the one account?
Thanks!
Dave

You can copy them to a different iTunes library, yes. But they'll still have to be authorized through the iTunes Store account under which they were purchased.
Note, just in case I've misunderstood what you were asking, that you can merge iTunes libraries; that is, you can copy tracks from anywhere on the computer or from another computer and put them all into one iTunes library. But you cannot change the iTunes Store account under which purchased content is authorized; you have to use the account ID and password under which the content was originally purchased and there's no way to change that.

• HT202213 multiple admin users on one iMac using central iTunes library & Merging iTunes accts

Hi guys.
Instead of just trying to share itunes across several devices. i'm also trying to share itunes and one library across multiple users of one iMac without having to ask for permission everytime somebody wants to listen to music.
Also, since starting a family, we'd like to combine our separate itunes accounts into one master account for the household. is there any way to merge itunes accounts and permissions for songs and apps?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thnx

You can't merge iTunes accounts, purchases are tied to their respective Apple ID.
Not sure about the other, you'd be better off posting to the iMac or iTunes section.
