Merging itunes libraries

I have my iTunes library on a mem stick after recently moving iTunes account from one laptop to another. Can I give the mem stick to a friend so he can load my library onto his existing iTunes account? All my albums are ripped from cd. I have no files on there that have been downloaded form iTunes. What do you mean "merge itunes libraries from two separate accounts"? You have an iPod listed. Are you talking about getting music from two separate iTunes libraries on two separate computers? Are you talking about getting iTunes purchased music on a single iPod from two separate Apple/iTunes IDs?
What is it that you are wanting to do? If you do not take the time to explain what it is you are wanting to accomplish, then you are not going to get the information you need to do it. We are not mind readers.

Using rsync to merge itunes libraries

I'm not sure where to post this, so I'll try here. I'm trying to create a script to backup my laptop's (smaller and ever changing) itunes library to a server that has all my music on it. i've looked everywhere for this answer online and can't find anything.
the problem is, I can easily rsync the laptop's library to the server, without deleting, so that I have essentially merged whatever new purchases I've made on my laptop into the archival library on the server. . . creating an ever growing music backup on the server. However, how does the itunes library on the server know to add these new tunes to its itunes library file? I know I could go in and drag the server's itunes music folder into the server's itunes app, and the merged songs would then be added to the library xml file, but i was wondering if there was a way to automate that process as well... (in rsync or otherwise)...
anyone have any ideas?

Merging iTunes libraries/accounts

My kids used to have a a Windows PC but it died. I bought a new iMac for myself and I am passing down my G4 iMac to the kids. On the windows PC, they each had their own log in, so they each had to have a separate iTunes library. Additionally, they each have their own iTunes account. I have managed to get all of the info from the PC transferred to the iMac. It is all in a separate folder waiting for me to intergrate it into the different programs on the iMac.
Here are my questions.
a) I would like to merge all of the iTunes libraries into one. Is it possible for use to have four iTunes Store accounts that feed into one iTunes library?
b)If we can merge the accounts into one library, would we be able to listen to and to share all of the music in the libray or would we need to sign in and out of the indiviual accounts?
c) I shudder think of how much money we have wasted by buying the same version of the same songs at the iTunes Store. If we merge all of the libraries, what happens to the dozens of duplicate songs that were purchased by more than one of the accounts?
d) If we do not merge the libraries, how difficult is it to switch between libraries in iTunes?

My Mac Pro just arrived yesterday. Fortunately, I had kept my Library on an exernal FW drive; everything transferred very quickly to the new Mac while I snoozed last night. This morning, I decided to listen to some tunes but couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get my Library recognized by iTunes. I thought I'd have to spend the entire morning searching the forum for the answer, which I should already know because I had to do it last year when I moved everything to the external drive.

Merging iTunes libraries onto a new computer?

I just purchased a new macbook and I want to sell my older macs. I have two, each with its own iTunes libraries (and associated files). These libraries are highly redundant, but not identical.
Is there an easy way to merge them and move them onto the new computer without being plagued by duplicates?

Unfortunately, no, it is hard to somehow automerge a couple libraries and avoid duplicates. iTunes is very stupid in that it is no able to determine duplicate files and so treats all files the same and adds them all. Which is good because you don't want iTunes determining three tracks are the same song because they have the same artist and song title and throwing two in the trash when in fact one was a studio version, another a live version and the other an alternate outtake version. You would make a lot of people angry doing that.
So, iTunes leaves determining if tracks are duplicates up to the user. You can use the command to show duplicates, but that is only to help you determine which songs MIGHT be duplicates and leaves it up to you to make that determination.
Therefore, when adding tracks, like from other libraries, iTunes does not make any attempt to determine, warn, let alone restrict duplicate tracks.
About the only thing I can think of to help is to go into the libraries of the computers you are getting rid of and manually deleting stuff you know are duplicates. For example, on your main library you see you have 8 albums by U2. Go delete those albums from the other libraries. Repeat as necessary to at least get them other libraries reduced considerably. Then it will be much easier to try and determine where they are different to grab the different things to put into the main computer's library.

I have a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro tower. Each has iTunes 10. Each computer has its own iTunes music library. There is about 70 % overlap of music. How can I merge the libraries so they are the same on each computer? Many thanks for any help.

Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

Merging iTunes Libraries with iCloud

I have two iMacs ( Mavericks), sharing the same customer account. Each iMac has it's
own iTunes library. I'd like to merge the two libraries so they appear the same on both iMacs.
Is that doable? Also, if that can be done, can iCloud keep iTunes synced on both Macs going
forward as I add new music?

Until I tunes match comes out it does not matter. I cloud is for e mail, contacts, and calendars. Your I cloud ID MUST be an @me.com ID.

Merging Itunes Libraries after erase and install of Tiger

Hello all,
If someone can point me in the right direction. i have searched and read a lot of postings about merging libraries. i'm not sure if i fall into any of these categories.
here is what i did:
1. all my itunes music is on an external maxtor 300 gb hard drive.
2. upgraded to tiger - had errors, so needed to do an erase and install.
3. the maxtor external hard drive was disconnected during the upgrade.
4. itunes was installed during the upgrade with none of my current playlists or purchased music since the external drive was not connected (found this out from reading a post).
5. my girlfriend downloaded music that was waiting to be downloaded so now i have music in my new itunes library.
and the questions is:
i would like to combine the new library with the existing library so that all my purchased music is in one folder and i reclaim all my old playlists (the current itunes setup has no playlists yet).
so is there anything i need to do special in this instance?

Thanks for your questions. Actually, I did two Archive and Installs and one Erase and Install. In every instance by the time I got the OS up to 10.4.11 (via one combined update) things started acting funky. iPhoto wouldn't work — to get it running required an overwrite install via iLife 05, Appleworks 6 won't open and, as mentioned Mail never worked from the get-go.
I have tried reinstalling only Mail. But as yet no luck getting it to work.
I have been trolling around the forums and have noted a lot of problems regarding Mail in 10.4. When I have time, I will try some of the simpler, albeit arcance, suggested solutions.

My old itunes account is connected to a defunct email account so I can't merge itunes libraries because I can't get into the old account,it used to be my mom's

What can I do,I don't want to lose my libraries,both of them. The old ipod I had is dead,I have a new classic And want both libraries but I cannot access my old email,because it was my mom's account and I can't remember her old password and neither can she this account was made a long,long time ago,tried to get into the account to update it but forgot that password and it's all locked up now.So is there another way to verify my old email address? besides sending it an email I can't access? Forgot iPhone passcode can be done:
1.Press down the Home and Power buttons on your iPhone until it shuts off.
2.Connect it to your computer with the USB cable.
3.Press and hold down the Home button.
4.Hold it down until iTunes says your device is entering recovery mode.
Then you can restore using iTunes.

There's NO way to merge ITunes libraries as the old PC crashed...

All my contents was stored in my PC that crashed. How do I keep existing files in my IPhone4 during sync and add new files from my new PC? Or better yet, how do I transfer existing files into ITunes media library so next time I sync it will be automatically added to my IPhone? I haven't done any sync since it asked me if I want to erase the Iphone and sync with the new library. Thanks for the help!

If the media from your iTunes library was all purchased, you can connect the iPhone, disable sync, right click on the device in the device pane and select transfer purchases. Make sure you authorize the new computer with your Apple ID.
If it is other media, you will have to download 3rd party software like Touch Copy. Also, when you get ready to sync calendar and contact, make sure you have a unique contact and appointment in the program before trying to sync so it will trigger a merge command. Otherwise you could lose calendar and contact. What calendar and contact program are you using on the computer, Outlook? Before you sync, also make a backup of the phone. That can be done by right clicking and selecting backup.

Merging Itunes folders pre and post computer crash

I need to figure out how to merge my itunes folder pre-hard drive crash (i was able to retrieve my itunes folder) and post hard drive crash, then I need to put the merged file on my external hard drive or on my mac. Itunes is currently taking of 1/2 of the hard drive space on my pc (40 GB), so it needs to be moved.
