Merging iTunes library from 10.6 with library 10.8??

Hey all,
My old 2008 MBP running 10.6 died and just got a new MBP running 10.8. I don't want to lose my music and back ups for iPhone and iPad.
Q: Can I merge libraries from an older OS to the newer OS?
Thanks,
Dooki

However if I control click on the iTunes apps and chose "Show Content" I get a folder with infor.plist,Frameworks,Version.plist, etc. Is this what I'm looking for on the old MBP?
No.That is the iTunes application. Nothing to do wtih your media/music.
So on the old MBP I target booted and found and iTunes folder but it did not say "iTunes Media."
Then look for /Music/iTunes/iTunes music/ folder.
Likewise on the new MBP there is no path for Music/iTunes/iTunes media. If I look in User/Dooki/Music the folder is empty
Have you ran iTunes on this new computer?
Easiest if you run Migration Assitant and copy all your user data (including iTunes) to new computer.

You need to subscribe to iTunes Match to store your music on iCloud:

To transfer iTunes Store purchases made on your phone to your computer, connect your phone then choose "Transfer purchases..." from the File menu in iTunes.

  • Merging Itunes library files

I have all my music stored in one ITunes Media folder and have 2 different subsets of the music mapped to 2 different Ipods (so each subset has its own Itunes library file). I'm looking for an easy way to merge 2 different Itunes library files (so to have the music from the 2 ipods in one single library).
The 2 methods I know of are both cumbersome.
The first is to take the first library and add in it all the folders of the artists that compose the second library.
The second is to create a library with all my music and then to suppress everything I don't want in there.
    Thanks.

Hi, Dorothy, and welcome to the Discussions.
Just once, you're going to have to hook up the old computer, to copy everything over to the new one.

  • How do I prevent iTunes 11 from syncing apps with my devices?

I want to be able to sync music to my iPad and iPod but I do not want to store their apps on my computer. Since iCloud remembers which apps I own, this is (in my mind) unnecessary. How do I prevent iTunes 11 from syncing my apps? This did not use to be a problem because in iTuens 10 it was an option. Now it seems that it isn't.

Well, in fact the application stopped opening automatically for no reason that is clear to me. For about 5 days after I updated the software it opened automatically when I plugged in or unplugged my phone. Then it suddenly stopped. All I did between the last automatic open and the time that it ceased was, in the options window, uncheck the "manually manage music and videos" option and then check it again without clicking "apply" and also checking "sync only checked songs and videos" and unchecking again without clicking apply.
I can't really recall now, but I thought that I played around with those settings and no matter what, I never saw the Option for Automatically Sync when Connected in iTunes.
I can think of no reason why this would halt the automatic opening but it has definitely stopped. Yet I still don't have the option listed in the options window to "prevent itunes from opening automatically when device is connected."
This is all very strange to me but I can think of nothing to pursue it further.
I can't think of any reason why it would trigger that behavior and of the other 170+ views that this discussion has received, I suppose that nobody else had anything to offer either.
I can't think of anything else to pursue it further either and as long as it is working the way that you want it to work now, I can't think of any need to pursue it further.

  • How can I disassociate my songs in the iTunes store from another musician with the same name?

My songs in the iTunes store are showing up with the artist John Powers. That is my name. There seems to be another musician called John Powers, and our songs seem to be grouped together. I feel bad for the guy, as he seems quite clean-cut and my songs are all a bit... edgy. Is there any way to clarify that there is another artist also called John Powers, or will my songs forever be linked to his through our common name?
Here's a link to the artist page.
My songs are "Empire State of Meh," "Venereal Disease," and "Get Some Blow."

  • Merging advance track from pre-order with album

I pre-ordered Memory Almost Full by P. McCartney and got the album's second track in advance. The full album was released today. I downloaded the album and merged the advance track (#2 on the full album)
I changed the track info to track 2 along with the album title and etc. and quadruple-checked that all info in all fields is correct.
Yet, the track will not appear between tracks 1 & 3 in I-Tunes. It appears after the last track. I have tried everything with no luck. The only way to get the tracks in the correct order is to create a playlist, but I shouldn't have to do this. The phone techs are clueless. Any ideas.

It's strange - i have also experienced this, but i simply deleted the whole album from iTunes, then re-imported it manually. It's as though the date added is being sorted or something; i don't really know, but hope that helps!

  • Can I merge a site from pre-production with the content already in production - ALM query

Hi, I have a number of queries around the movement of content between environments in SP2010.
    1) Move a site from production to test without the production data
Is the best option here to save the site as a template and don't tick the include content box? Or is it better to take a site collection backup and then restore it to the test environment.
    2) Once I have my site in test is there any way I can make changes, then move the site back to production while still maintaining the production data?
I don't know how this would work but maybe there is a way somehow. Say for example the site has been modified in test such as adding new site columns or content types, how should this be deployed to production? Is it simply a matter of replicating all the
    changes manually to production?
It would be useful to get some best practices around this topic. Thanks.

    Hi Speedbird85,
This is depend the changes you need to move.
For empty or small sites, using site template can meet the requirement, you can consider using this.
Backup and move the content database between environment will lost production changes, this is not really recommended, if you keep the test environment update to date with production, you can use this way.
For kinds of changes move, there are various ways to sync the conent, like lists, master pages, css, etc. should be packaged in solution file, and deploy it between them.

  • HT4914 Can I store music in the cloud using iTunes Match from another computer with a different Apple ID?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

You can't transfer music (nor any other content) from one account to another account, it will remain tied to the account that downloaded it. Also home sharing only works from a computer to a device (or to another computer), it doesn't work between iOS devices.
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be redownloaded in all countries) then he could potentially log into your account on his iPod (I assume that it's an iPod Touch) and redownload his music on it, but that might tie his iPod to your account for 90 days : iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID.

  • Can 2 different iPhones be supported by 1 iTunes library?

    Scenario:
1 spouse is no longer able to maintain the content in their iTunes’ library and wishes to combine content of the 2 libraries into a singular instance.
    Assumptions:
Each phone would share the same iTunes’ Library (i.e. Songs, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, iTunes U, Audiobooks, Apps, & Tones, etc)
For library being discontinued, previous purchases would be “enabled” or “forwarded” to spouses’ iTunes’ library.
As iPhone updates occur, this new “merged” iTunes’ library would know to push the updates to both phones
The users do have separate lists of Contacts and would like for this to stay separate
iPhone backups of ‘most critical data’ would continue in iCloud separate from one another as they relate to each spouse’ Apple ID
    Hardware:
    2 iPhone 5s running iOS 8.0.2
    Software:
    iTunes 11.4

Mac HD was not showing.  All that was showing were: "Favorites", "Devices", "Tags".  Under "Devices" the Mac-mini was showing.  I then proceeded to use different File menu commands.  What finally worked as under 'Favorites', I selected, "Documents".  On the File menu commands, I went to "Go", then "Enclosing Folder".  Doing this exposed the Mac HD.  I dragged this over to the left side sidebar - it placed itself under "Devices".  OK - I will try the rest of your instructions tomorrow.  Thank you for telling me to try something else as I wasn't seeing what you thought I could see.  Now I can see...thanks again.  I will let you know more tomorrow.  Thanks.

  • Repairing HDD without loosing itunes library

My HDD has been corrupted and I need reboot it and re-install all my software programs. If I save my itunes library on an external hard drive and I re-install itunes once the laptop drive is fixed, how will I ensure that the re-installed Itunes will recognise the library and my ipods?

Assuming your iTunes folders and files are intact, you need to save the iTunes folder from My Music with all its subfolders.
Copy My Music\iTunes onto an external drive.
When you have fixed your internal drive, install iTunes but don't add any music at this stage.
With iTunes closed, drag the iTunes folder out of My Music to your desktop.
Then copy the iTunes folder from the external drive into My music to replace the one you dragged out.
When you next open iTunes you should have your old library back.
If you really are using windows 2000, the last compatible version is iTunes 7.3 which you can download from here if needed:

  • ITUNES LIBRARY WON'T OPEN

I tried to open my itunes and received the following message: The file "iTunes Library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. That's all there is. Just an OK button to hit. What do I do? Thanks.

Are you running the most recent version of iTunes? If you aren't, that's most likely the problem, particularly if you downgraded to an older version of iTunes or copied your iTunes folder from a system with a new version of iTunes to a system that has an older version.

  • How do I merge itunes libraries?

How do I merge itunes libraries from two separate accounts?

Why are you posting a second thread with the same question. This one isn't any clearer than your first post.
What do you mean "merge itunes libraries from two separate accounts"? You have an iPod listed. Are you talking about getting music from two separate iTunes libraries on two separate computers? Are you talking about getting iTunes purchased music on a single iPod from two separate Apple/iTunes IDs?
What is it that you are wanting to do? If you do not take the time to explain what it is you are wanting to accomplish, then you are not going to get the information you need to do it. We are not mind readers.

i've google searched this quite a bit, but seem to come up with various answers. I have several iTunes Media folders floating around and would like to consolidate everything into one place, and get rid of duplicates as well. What to do?

  • After moving my itunes library from my old WinXP computer to my new Win7 computer, itunes gives a warning that my content on my phone must be removed and re-synced. I want to merge changes/updates on my phone with my itunes library as normal, not erase it

After moving my itunes library from my old WinXP computer to my new Win7 computer, itunes gives a warning that my content on my phone must be removed and re-synced. I want to merge changes/updates on my phone with my itunes library as normal, not erase it & replace it. My updates/changes will be lost.
How do I merge content on my iPhone & content in iTunes together?

Hopefully you still have the original library and can redo the migration...
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
