Merging Old Archived Mailboxes With Current Mail

I have an old Mail archive from Panther I'd like to merge with Snow Leopard Mail now that the application seems much faster and stable and I have much larger hard disk. Some of the old mailboxes are identical to the current ones.
Is it possible to simply copy the .emlx files from the old folders into the current ones and then re-build all the Mailboxes? Or is there a better way to merge them?
I'm assuming each .emlx file has a unique name which won't be duplicated between the archived and current mailboxes. In the case of actual duplicates where there might have been some overlap, I would assume I can simply chose to keep the originals.
Anybody done this before?

I'd make a new Mailbox, and just drag them to that to see if it's what you want.

  • Exchange 2010 SP2 : Move calander entries and Task items from Archive mailbox to current active mailbox.

    Hi,
After upgrade the exchange 2010 SP1 to SP2, all users calendar and task items entries also moved to archive mailbox from user's active mailboxes.
We like to move 90 days older emails to archive mailbox but not calendar & task items to be moved.
Any solution to move back those older archive calendar and task items to active mailbox users and also any settings to stop further to move calendar & task items to archive mailbox in SP2?
    Thanks

  • Access purchases using from old email address with current ID

I have some songs that cut out part way through because they didn't get downloaded fully when I switched hard drives or something. I purchased them from the iTunes store with my own Apple ID, but it was when my Apple ID was associated with a different email address. I changed my email address on my account when I deactivated my old address. I can't log in to the Apple Store with the old address because Apple doesn't recognize it as being valid.
These past purchases don't show up in my purchase history, even though older ones do, also from my previous . I'd like to re-download the songs so that I have the full versions. Does anyone have any ideas about how I can do this? Thank you!

    Thanks for the response.
My iTunes account window doesn't show the Unhide option as the example in the link does. I'm guessing that's because I haven't hidden anything, but maybe there's another explanation? It would be great if that were the answer.
The main album I'm hoping to re-download is still available in the store. The really frustrating part is that I've downloaded stuff from the cloud that I originally purchased as many as 8 years ago, but this one album that I bought in 2012 won't cooperate.

  • OS X Mail not showing Archive mailbox (and lost Flagged mailbox)

Recently I notice the Archive mailbox in Apple Mail has dissappeared. I can find messages in that mailbox using Searchlight if I know the exact contents of the message or subject but I use this mailbox to store application licenses, etc., and do not always know the right subject. I used to browse, knowing roughly the time when I bought the licese. Also the Flagged mailbox is grayed out in the favorites line and not shown in the left hand mailbox side bar. Also a pain because I set reminder messages and conference call emails with colored flags.
    Any help?

Next to the On My Mac there is a hide function. Did you select it? If you go to the same place, see if there is a Show function.

  • Need some help with getting mail folders into Maverick please???

I have finally gotten my old Snow Leopard files transferred to Maverick partition on my hard drive but my mail did not pull over the old saved mailboxes with saved emails. How can I get those old saved emails into Mavericks so I can quit using Snow Leopard all together? The top picture below are my mailboxes you can see in Snow Leopard on the left of the screen (seems to have copied over the mail in my in-box but not my saved mailboxes. the second picture is what shows in Maverick. Can someone direct me on how to get my saved emails to Maverick please? All help is greatly appreciated and make the instructions simple, not real tech savy so need exact instructions. Thanks so much for any and all help:
Also, is there any way to not group mail from the same person/company in a folder? Can't seem to find in preferences where you can get each email on a separate line. For instance if I get several emails from Apple Support it groups them into one folder and I would just as soon have them all listed separately in mail. Thanks again, Gary

I couldn't have done any of this without the excelletn support from you Andy. You were patient with me and your assistance will never be forgotten. Thank you is not enough. I was so confused and now more aware of what is going on. I wasn't familiar with users vs. partitions I guess and was swiveling and seeing different things than when restarting and couldn't figure out what was going on. Again, thank you for your patience, and excellent skills to get me on the road to using Maverick. THANK YOU!!!

  • Machine doesn't handle Mavericks with current setup, but does with fresh setup

I have a MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB Ram and when I upgraded to Mavericks my machine began to crawl. The biggest thing I noticed is Mail would take about 10minutes to launch and daily my machine would tell me I've used up all memory and need to reboot, and the fan is constantly running. None of this ever happened until the day I upgraded.
So I did a full backup and started from new, things work great, but I've realized it's too big of a hassel to not have my prefrences, applications, etc. I've now gone back to my old setup (complete with slow mail, fan running constantly, etc) but I am wondering is there some type of a program that I need to run to get rid of any bugs or something similar?
I know my machine can run on Mavericks, but doesn't want to with this current set up. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for you help!
    Michael

You need to find out what it is that is dragging it down.
You can look at Activity Monitor to see if there is something using a lot of CPU.
Also, look in Console for lots of repeating errors, especially throttling and respawn.
Boot into Safe Mode and see how it runs. Not that some things will not work in Safe Mode, and you cannot boot to safe mode with FileVault2 enabled or a Fusion drive.

If it works ok in Safe Mode, it is a startup item that is causing the problems.

  • How to read old (archived) mail?

    Hi -
As the subject indicates, I'm not sure what the best way is to read old archived mail....
Old mail was saved before I updated to Tiger, and don't know if that makes a difference.
Obviously I want to avoid overwriting any current messages, but would also like to know how to pull archived messages and keep them with my current messages, if possible.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

If these archives were saved with Jaguar or Panther Mail, it does make a difference since the mbox format used with Tiger Mail is significantly different than the format used with previous Mail.app versions.
You can use the Import Mailboxes feature. Imported mailboxes are placed within an Import named folder kept separate from existing Tiger Mail mailboxes and messages.

  • Outlook 2013 cached mode "mail to keep offline" - does this setting affect archive mailbox or Office 365 hosted archive mailbox?

I have an Exchange 2013 Hybrid environment with Exchange 2007 in coexistance mode as well as Office 365. We are hosting the majority of our Exchange accounts on-premise (migrating them from 2007), and most (soon to be ALL) Archive mailboxes in Office 365.
I have through Group policy set the policy "Select Cached Exchange Mode sync settings for new profiles" to 6 months. This works fine for the contents of the regular mailbox, but the setting is NOT being set at all for the Online Archive mailbox,
whether or not it is hosted on-premise or in Office 365. Is this the expected behavior?
Another question: Is it possible to have the regular mailbox in cached mode and the archive in Online mode or vice versa?

    Hi,
The key to your questions is: Archive mailboxes are online only, they cannot be cached for offline viewing, so you can keep your regular mailboxes offline(In Cached Exchange Mode) or Online, but cannot switch Archive mailboxes to Offline.
The whole idea of the archive mailbox is to keep your "online" mailbox with recent / important mails small and accessible on and offline. The archive mailbox is intended to store older / less important emails which are not neccessary to access immediately.
One important reason of archive mailbox is to prevent the growth of offline files.

How do you mass archive emails in iclould mail?  I have 330,000 emails and what to move old emails from my inbox to a managed folder. Can anyone help?

Winston - thank you for your reps but that is common sense... Icloud only displays 50 emails at a time. So your recommendation doesn't work if you have 330,000 emails in your inbox. I am looking for a way to do a mass move.. Like a filter or rule that runs in the inbox. Current rules can only work as emails arrive.
    Any other thoughts?

  • Broken Archive Behavior with Yosemite Mac Mail and Gmail?

    Hi -
It seems that with the Yosemite upgrade of Mail, the archive behavior with gmail (google apps) has broken. You can not change the Archive command to select the archive folder. The command just seems just to move the message from the Inbox to to the All Mail folder and no longer shows any messages in my folder called Archive. I have to go to gmail web to view these messages. This broke from Mavericks where I was able to archive to a mailbox called 'Archive'.
Is there anyway to change the behavior of Mail to select the archive folder and view the contents of my IMAP folder named 'Archive'?
    Thanks

    Hello VMH!
When either one of us deletes a message, it is automatically deleted from the other's Mail Inbox
That's exactly what IMAP is for: to sync mailboxes on different machines.
We would very much like to find a simple way to make sure whatever messages get downloaded into our Mail Inboxes stay there regardless of what the other person does.
As far as I know, that's not possible with IMAP. Besides, as I indicated above, it contradicts the idea behind IMAP. For info on IMAP and Gmail see this [Help Page|http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=75725] (click the link) and for info on deleting IMAP messages in Gmail see [this page|http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=78755] (again, click the link).
In your case I would recommend using POP instead of IMAP. But you have to make sure that the messages you download are kept on the server, so that your wife can access them, too. In the following I'll give some instructions on how to accomplish that.
*1) Switch from IMAP to POP in Gmail*
1.1 Log into your Gmail account via mail.google.com, click "Settings" in the upper right corner of the window and select "Forwarding and POP/IMAP". Make sure POP is enabled for "all mail".
1.2 Set the option "When messages are accessed with POP" via the drop-down menu to "Keep Google Mail's copy in the Inbox".
    1.3 Disable IMAP access.
*2) Create a new POP mail account in Apple Mail*
    *3) Adjust Apple Mail's settings*
In Apple Mail's Preferences > Accounts, select your new POP account and click on the "Advanced" tab. There you have to uncheck the checkbox next to "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message".
(You'll have to repeat steps 2) and 3) on your wife's computer as well.)
Hope that helps to get you started.
    Good computing.

  • Archive Old Material Codes with Related Transactional data

    Hi everyone,
I have read some articles and posts on archiving material masters, PO, PR data etc. However, I could not find a consolidated post that describes in proper sequence how old material masters can be archived along with corresponding BOMs, POs, PRs, Info records, FI docs, and other material doc. data required to be archived BEFORE the master data can be archived.
Can anyone please guide me sequentially on this?
If you can provide steps, names of archiving objects, the sequence of activities required, that would be great.
    Thanks very much.
    Regards

not easy to estimate as I dont know the full scope and not  the country your client is located.
you must never forget that you archive data that may still be subject for audits of tax authorities.
This means that the work is not over when the record is successfully archived. you have to make sure that the archived record can be accessed by the auditors or by the user community for late investigations in case of returns or quality complaints.
you have to define together with users of each module how long you keep the transactional  data in production system. and how long in the archive until they can be disposed.
And .....projects take longer if you have not much experience.
I currently estimate 2 working days per archiving object, but I have many years experience in archiving, and in several modules including  basis activities. But the time really varies from object to object. while I am able to archive millions of material documents in a few hours, it may take many more days for a other object like purchase orders (or material) to fight all error messages.
further this is not only MM and basis, you have to have PP and SD and others resssources as well in the project.
you have to investigate interfaces, e.g. if the data is used in a external subsystem or in a business warehouse.

  • Problems with syncing Mail (with mailboxes and emails)

I synced my Tiger desktop to my Leopard laptop and have had 2 big problems:
    1. The mailboxes that I had trashed in Tiger showed up in Leopard AND worse, the new ones don't show up.
    2. I'm syncing both rules, sigs, smart mailboxes AND Accounts - when you sync accounts, aren't the emails supposed to transfer over too? I'm not getting ANY emails to transfer to the laptop.
I need to be able to keep emails on both machines current - HELP!

Syncing email account information between computers requires a .Mac account -- do you have one?
Start by reading Mail Help searching with "Synchronizing Mail accounts and settings using .Mac"
    Also see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/9007.html
Which states, in part: "Synchronizing your mail accounts doesn’t synchronize your email messages between computers. If you want your email messages and folders to be synchronized across computers, set up your email account as an IMAP account (.Mac accounts created using Mac OS X Tiger are automatically configured to use IMAP). With IMAP accounts, messages and folders are stored on the mail servers, so you can access them from more than one location. Mail synchronizes your IMAP mailboxes and messages on your computer with those on the server."

Why would you not want to run IMAP? Setting up Google IMAP with Mail (http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77663&topic=12761) or any other program (http://mail.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?topic=12760) is anything but trivial.

  • How do I setup shared Exchange mailbox with Mail (Yosemite)?

    Hello,
we use Office 365 hosting for our mails. Setting up my default Exchange account is no problem at all, just provide e-Mail address, password and let auto discover finish the rest through System Preferences -> Internet accounts.
But I also need to setup two shared Exchange mailboxes. If I setup the e-mail address of the shared mailbox. I tried to set it up as follows:
System Preferences -> Internet Accounts -> Add Exchange Account
    Name: Shared Mailbox
    Email Address: [email protected]
    Password <own AD password>
As expected: Internet Accounts couldn't log in to the Exchange server "autodiscover-s.outlook.com". Make sure the email address and password you entered are correct. Then, enter your user name and click Continue.
    <Continue>
    Account Settings
    Account Type: Exchange
    Description: Shared Mailbox
User Name: <own smtp mail address>
    Password: <own AD password>
    Server Address: outlook.office365.com
    <Continue>
    Account Summary
    Account type: Exchange
    Full name: Shared Mailbox
    Email address: [email protected]
    Server address: outlook.office365.com
    <Continue>
Select the apps to use with "[email protected]": Mail
=> There was a problem setting up the Mail account: an unknown error occurred.

So to add an additional account to access a different mailbox on the Exchange sever with the same credentials as the personal mailbox is apparently no option any more. On the other hand I haven't found any option to add according folders from other mail address inboxes to my personal account in any of the Preferences from Mail (Yosemite, 8.1) or any menu item, that would allow me to add the inboxes of other shared Exchange server mail boxes I have access to.
The same is true for Mail (iOS 8.1.2), thus I have not found a solution to configure the shared mailboxes on my iOS devices either.
Trying to setup an "Add Other Account" using IMAP did not succeed either. It always uses my personal mailbox, because I only have my personal user to access the shared mailbox and downloads my personal inbox instead of the one of the shared mailbox.
Do I really have to fall back to Outlook 2011 Mac to be able to use this feature and miss out on all the hands off features from Yosemite?

i too use office 365 shared mailboxes  and it took me a long time to work out to add them to my ios mail app , this worked for me :
start setting up a normal exchange account , put your shared email address in the username and you main email account password.
it will fail to do the auto-discover thing , but when you click on continue it eil allow you to manually enter the details :
    Name : < whatever>
    email : <your shared email a/c address  i.e [email protected] >
    description : <whatever>
    incoming mail
    Host name : outlook.office365.com
    username : <your main email address / shared i.e  [email protected]/myshared >
password : < your main account password >
    outgoing mail server:
    SMTP : smtp.office365.com
    username : <your mail email i.e. [email protected] >
password < your main account password >
    use ssl  <YES>
    authentication : Password
    server port 587
this worked fine on every IOS device i own, but somehow it doesn't work with my Yosemite mail   , so if anybody can help with Yosemite mail it would be much appreciated.
    Cheers;
