Merging PDF's, what about settings?

I have a little "problem";
I shall make a 2 sided folder for printing, and I have selected the right resolution, color-settings, color-mode(CMYK) and color-profile according to the print-shops demand. I have made 2 PDF's, one for the front-side, and one for the back-side, with all the correct setting.
Then, my "problem" occures; what happens to the correct PDF-settings I selected, when I use Adobe Acrobat to merge the two PDF's into one PDF? Are my settings kept in the PDF-files, or what? I'm concerned about the settings for resolution, color-settings, color-mode(CMYK) and color-profile.

Thanks for your response. Could you please tell me is there any Adobe or adobe approved tool or software that I could make use of to retain Reader Extensions in my PDF after renaming of fields. Currently I am using Aspose PDF which allows me to rename fields and generates a new pdf once i rename it. But when i try to open it, it throws an error saying that "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact Author"and after that i am not able to edit and save data.

I had thought about using PDF/X. I certainly wouldn't use PDF/X-1a if there is any RGB; PDF/X-3 may be OK, but you do need to know what the output intent is, or you can end up with unexpected colour shifts, especially if (not recommended) the file used device colour spaces. If an ICC blend space was used for transparency, that can safely be used as the output intent.
Flattening layers is a trivial operation; the layers aren't separate as in Photoshop. Rather, each thing in a PDF might have a marker putting it in a layer. Stripping out all these markers leaves you without layers, and with everything visible.
Flattening transparency is more problematic. However, it has to happen every time you print, one way or another, so it is well tried.
Flattening will change some of the elements in the file, turning some things into curves, some things into rasters - anything that looks the same. Here is where the quality comes in. These NEW bitmaps have to have a suitable resolution. Images are not the main quality problem - text is far more of an issue. It is not a thing to do with a PDF for interactive use, as the text can degrade on screen and become unsearchable. But the transparency flattener has quality settings (you have the same settings in the print dialog).

Below is a copy of an 8/7/2013 email from adobe. I prepaid a one-year subscription, and, until I recently upgraded to Windows 8, I was able to make several dozens of merged pdf documents. I seem to be no longer able to use the merge feature that I had successfully and repeated used. When I search for the merge feature I end up with a request that I pay for an upgrade monthly subscription to use the merge feature.

Yes, you can do all of that via Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Import Data, if you have Acrobat.
If you only have the free Reader then you can still do it, but it requires a script.

Help!! what do I need to merge pdfs?

Ok...I feel a little silly by asking this, but can't find the answer anyone else. I'm needing to combine pdf's into a single file. Right now I only have the reader so I know I need something else. Honestly, the cheapest with this ability is the way I want to go. Is the cheapest software Acrobat Standard? And if so, is this an upgrade from the Reader....because the upgrade is all I see available. And yes, I'm clueless...and need help. All I need it for is for merging pdf's....what are my least expensive options???

Buy Acrobat Standard. It isn't a upgrade from Adobe Reader.

Merging PDF with Mac OS x

I'm trying to merge PDF's to make a single one using Acrobat x pro. During the process it keeps getting stuck on the "checking for security settings" part. There aren't any passwords required for any of the files but it still won't go past that step. Has anyone dealt with this before?

I am not sure what is causing the inconsistency in selected pages not printing, but I'd be happy to help.
Let's reset the printing system, repair disk permissions, re-add the printer using the right driver, and try to scan again.
Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and add the printer back.
When you add the printer, please ensure you are using the HP driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can select the printer driver
I look forward to hearing from you. If the issue remains unresolved, I will post instructions to completely scrub the HP software from the computer and start fresh.

Need Merging PDF forms in Android Tablet (with a twist!)

Hi guys I was wondering if there is anyway to Merge PDF documents in a Android app and keep the repeating information in forms intact. Let me explain. I have a regular form which cilents fill out but some times another form needs to be filled out also which have the repeating fields like name, date of birth, etc. I know that it is possible to do it in in Acrobat X Pro where you combine two PDF documents and as long as the form field is the same name or copied and pasted in the two seperate PDFs , information repeats itself automatically. However I was wondering if there is a way to do this on an android tablet (Motorola Xoom for me). I have tried apps that merge 2 seperate documents however the information from those that would normally repeat in Acrobat X on a regular computer does not do so in PDF merging apps I tried. I normally use qPDF and ezpdfreader but they don't seem to have a merging of two documents option (Or i don't know/can't find one). So any help? Any useful app I don't know about that can some my dilemia? Thanks ahead !

i know this is rather late, but based on what I've read online, it seems your issue is common among pdf form apps on the Android. From what i hear, qPDF Notes works well, but doesn't allow calculations. My guess is that the app developer hasn't loaded/programmed the necessary scripts in order to achieve calculations.

Adobe 8 vs. 9 on merging PDFs

The task is to merge PDF x into PDF y, such that PDF y ends up with both its original content and with that of PDF x.
When a co-workder does it with Adobe 8, it works. When I do it in Adobe 9, it doesn't work: in fact, PDF y disappears.
Any one know a potential reason for this?

This is the Adobe Reader forum which cannot merge PDF's so you'll need to let us know what application you are talking about or go back to the forum list and find the correct forum for that application.

The recommended solution for most families is to share the same Apple ID for iTunes and App Store purchases, so you can share your purchases, but us different IDs for iMessage, FaceTime and iCloud. How to merge pdf files into one pdf file?

In E-Rec we need the capability to mass printing for correspondance. There i want to merge pdf files for candidates into one pdf file. I am doing the following:
Data: lv_document1           TYPE rcf_s_cs_document_content.
LOOP AT activity_object_tab INTO ls_activity_object.
    lo_act_corr ?= ls_activity_object-activity.
     CALL METHOD lo_act_corr->process_document
       EXPORTING
         channel = 'FRONTEND'
       IMPORTING
         document = lv_document1.
ENDLOOP.
Now lv_document1 contains the pdf file in lv_document1-DOCUMENT_X which is of type RAWSTRING.
This works for one candidate, in this case the pdf for last candidate will be displayed.
But how would i append in the loop or what would i need to do display all candidates in one pdf.
Any help will be appreciated.

What compression settings to use from finalcut4.5HD to quicktime to toast?

I've been looking thru the forums and there are a lot of questions pertaining to this issue but I'm still having issues so here goes again...:)
I'm trying to burn quicktime movie files that I created in Final Cut 4.5HD onto a data dvd. When the files are created and played from the computer, they play fine. But when I burn them onto a DVD, a few of them are really jerky in motion and sometimes the video stops while the audio keeps going. I've been reading on Apple's forum that it may have to do with the compression or the data rate at which the file is created from FinalCut. Any suggestions on what export settings to use out of Final Cut?
I tried using - File - Export - Quicktime Movie (setting: current settings...include: audio & video...make movie self-contained)...created a .mov file but it was large and jerky on the data dvd when burned...
I also tried using the - File - Export - Quicktime Conversion option as well with different variations of the settings...(i.e. quicktime movie/mpeg-2/mpeg-4 with different compression types (dv/dvcpro-ntsc/none/video/mpeg-4/animation), key frames, compressor quality, etc)...The only thing I wasn't sure about was the data rate (i.e. automatic or restrict to?....and if I use the 'restrict to' what's a good amount?).......i
I have played around w/ these settings and still get jerky motion when played on a data dvd...the only ones that played correctly were the ones created thru the mpeg-2 format setting but these were .m2v files and are separated from the audio .aiff files...(the person getting the file needs the format in .mov format)...
My purpose for these particular exports are to create relatively small but good quality quicktime files that someone else can take and post on the web
I would also like to know what settings I should use if I wanted to 'backup' files for archival purposes in case I needed to go back and use the footage for editing purposes (in this case, file size the normal 720x480).
I'm using quicktime player 7.04 basic (not pro)
I'm using Toast 7 to burn the files. Just been dragging the files onto the Data Tab - Mac & PC format.

Just use the movie project file in Toast, it is DV and Toast will transcode it to MPEG-2 when authoring the DVD. DOn't encode to a lossy format before Toast as Toast makes MPEG-2 which is lossy enough already without two compression cycles.
You also don't use Toast to just burn a data disc as playback of a very high bitrate QT file might be more than the DVD can deliver.
Use the Toast video tab, DVD video button and add the movie project to the drop area or select from the media browser. Read the Toast manual as well.
For backup - export the project to a fresh DV tape or store the raw DV files on a external hard disk - do not compress it to some QT format and expect it to be "archival" footage to re-edit later - it will look terrible ( and while some people think encoding it to H264 is a way around this - it isn't and takes a ton of time to encode to H264 anyway).
$5 DV tapes are the best backup in addition to a 2nd hard disk.

I hope someone can help me, because I am SO frustrated right now! I want to create an electronic document of a 40-page thesis I wrote. I no
longer have the original computer files, so I took digital photos of each page.
Then I converted all the jpegs into pdf files.
Now I want to merge these 40 jpegs into one pdf file.
I read that this is possible with Adobe Acrobat 8 or 9. So, yesterday I downloaded the trial version of what I thought was Adobe Acrobat 9. Well,
two whole hours later, all I could find on my computer was Adobe Reader 9, which would not allow me to merge any pdfs.
So, today, I again reinstalled the Adobe Acrobat 9. Now, after waiting another two hours, there is NOTHING on my computer--no Adobe Reader, no Adobe Acrobat, no desktop icons, nothing in the "All Programs" list when I press the Start menu, etc.
What happened? How could something that took so damned long to download be totally invisible on my computer now? I do see Arcsoft, but that is for photographs. Is it possible to merge pdfs together using Arcsoft?
I have SO much other work to do, and I am so disgusted that I have lost two days on this project, just trying to merge pdfs together! Please, if
you have any suggestions as to how to get Adobe Acrobat 9 as a trial version an/or how to merge pdfs, please answer this post!

Standardise page sizes in merged PDF?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to merge together a PowerPoint '07 and an Excel '07 file, both set to A4 lanscape page layouts, in Acrobat 9 Standard. However, in the final merged PDF, the old Excel pages are huge compared to the PowerPoint slides - about 6 times larger.
Any ideas how I can force Adobe output a merged PDF all in the same page size and orientation?

Acrobat's combine feature to merge files into one PDF does not provide a page size "editor".
Likely a cleaner work flow if the input files had page size adjusted by their native application.
Once done, use combine to merge into the single PDF.
You may find this is (over all) easier than using the Crop Tool resize features.
To view any PDF's page size when open in Adobe Reader/Acrobat go into Preferences.
Select the Page Display catagory then tick the "Always show document page size" choice.
