Merging PDF with Mac OS x

I'm trying to merge PDF's to make a single one using Acrobat x pro. During the process it keeps getting stuck on the "checking for security settings" part. There aren't any passwords required for any of the files but it still won't go past that step. Has anyone dealt with this before?

I am not sure what is causing the inconsistency in selected pages not printing, but I'd be happy to help.
Let's reset the printing system, repair disk permissions, re-add the printer using the right driver, and try to scan again.
Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and add the printer back.
When you add the printer, please ensure you are using the HP driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can select the printer driver
I look forward to hearing from you. If the issue remains unresolved, I will post instructions to completely scrub the HP software from the computer and start fresh.

I have merged 2 pdfs with internal links. After they were merged the bookmarks work but the links in the text do not. Any help on this?

Merging pdfs with ability to edit a form

When I merge two pdfs in Acrobat 8 then reopen them in Reader (which is the only software my client has to view/edit pdfs) I can no longer save the data typed into the forms--I can print the document as is with the information, but the pdf form needs to be filled out by a couple people. Does anyone know of a way I can merge two pdfs and still retain the ability to edit the form?

Can't save edits. I was hoping I wouldn't have to go back in to enable reader rights (it's a client who would actually have to do it), but that's okay. Thanks for your help.

OfficeJet 8600 doesn't print full page range from pdf with Mac OS X

I have an OfficeJet Pro 8600 linked to a Mac with OS X Mavericks
We often need to print a block of pages (say the first 40, or 10-20 out of the middle) out of large pdf documents of 250pg or more. To do so we put in the page range under 'pages' in the print instructions box.
The printer sometimes prints an initial block of pages, then cuts off. If we then try to print the remaining pages, it starts by printing the whole range again, with the ones we already have, and then still cuts off maybe after having done 2-3 more than the first time round. To print the whole range we've eventually had to print the last pages one at a time.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening, and how we can stop it? It happens with documents in Adobe Reader and web pages.

Merged pdf with "extend features in adobe reader" rights

Hi all,
I would like to merge a pdf file into my basic pdf form with "extend features in adobe reader" rights but I would like to keep my basic form without those rights.
My problem is that when I try to open my basic form and link to my merged attachement file, the merged file becomes not modifiable even with "extend features in adobe reader" rights turned on.
Any suggestion to solve my problem?

How merge iWeb with .mac HomePage?

I'm having difficulties on merging iWeb photos I published into my .mac homepage which I already have lot of pics in there. I want people to continue looking at my pictures.
On my .mac account when I log in on Safari, I noticed the homepage galleries are separated from the iWeb I published. How can I merge these two together??
Please help! I'm starting to "regret" that I installed iLife '06. This is not any simple as Apple said so.

You can edit and add to existing homepages via the .Mac site thru Safari or your web browser. You'd have to manually add photo files to the folder holding the photo files for a particular web page and then go the the .Mac homepage site, select that page and do an edit. You can also create new homepages with the older themes manually.
It is a shame you can't use the two together. the iWeb selection of theses is rather limited compared to Homepage. Good luck.

Printing/creating PDF problems with Mac OS 10.6.4 and word v.X

In my job at university I use Word 2003 (version 10) in my new iMac. Since I updated to MacOS 10.6.4 I have problems with the printing menu. That means that I can not print or convert to PDF or even generate a preview. When trying to print or obtain a preview, word freezes and I have to force quit. When trying to generate a pdf file it does, but the generated file is unreadable (it says is damaged) and word freezes again. I have played with the preferences, change user and it didn't help. I checked the Font Book and indeed they were many duplicated fonts. I sorted them out, but the problem persists. With very short files it works, but with longer ones word invariably crashes when trying to print or make a pdf. I took one long .doc file and I copied into my laptop (MacBook pro, 2008) that was running 10.6.3. I printed it and converted to pdf; no problems at all. Then, for the sake of knowledge, I updated the system to 10.4.6 and then I couldn't print or create a pdf with the very same file, so it seems that certainly the update is reponsible. So now I know cause but I can not print from any of my computers. To me convert to pdf is an important functionality so I would appreciate any help. I have some ideas: reinstall Office 2003? reinstall 10.6 from the disk (and not update)? use Time Machine to restore the system as it was before the update?
I didn't detect problems in Office 2004, or any other programs in my macs. Unfortunately, I need Office 2003 for compatibility with some other software. Thanks in advance!

I updated my MBP to 10.6.4 last night and today I was printing fine from Word 2008 (v12.2.5). I haven't used Office vX since Tiger so I cannot comment on its stability with the latest update. But I suggest that if you haven't done so already, try opening Disk Utility and running Repair Disk Permissions on the 10.6.4 partition. Once this has completed I also suggest that you reset the printing system, restart your Mac and then add your printer queues again.
*How to Reset the Printing System*
1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
5. Restart your Mac

How to create a PDF with Acrobat 8 Pro on a Mac?

I have Adobe Acrobat 8 prof which came bundled with ScanSnap.
I am using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.8.
I have been trying to 'Create pdf from file'.
Adobe won't load an RTF file, a Pages file or a Word file.
It tells me to use the source application and print with Adobe PDF. When I try to do this I get the message
Printer Ready
You need to install software to use this printer. To install the software, choose Software Update from the Apple menu. If the software for your printer isn’t available in Software Update, contact the manufacturer of your printer.
I have tried software update but Apple has not supplied an update for the Adobe printer.
SO, what software do I need and where do I find it, to make Acrobat usable?

Books are designed for and printed on 8.5 x 11 inch stock, US Letter size. You shouldn't have to select any size. While viewing the All Pages mode in the book Control-Click on the page and select Save Book as PDF from the contextual menu.
That will create a PDF that iPhoto uses to upload and print. Not all pages will be the same size as the dust jacket will be present in it's full size, 32.8 inches x 8.91 inches:
If you want a PDF that's designed for your own printing the type Command+P while viewing the All Pages window. In the first print window click on the PDF button. It will present you with a contextual menu where you should select Save as PDF. That will give you an 8.5 x 11 PDF file with all pages the same size.

Which product do I purchase???? - Creating a merged PDF report from excel with cover page

Hi Guys,
I work in the BI field and have created a pdf document using PDFCreator and another third part scripting tool called jpdfbookmarks.
We have delivered something to the client but the quality of the output ( not the best) and the time it takes to cycle through each page ( when being viewed) within the merged
pdf document takes a little time...
So my boss as asked me to explore something within the Adobe suite of products BUT.... i have no idea which one i should choose.
My requirements are as follows:
To deliever this report to the client the program needs to be able to do the following:
1) convert excel files to pdf
2) take these individually created converted excel to pdf converted files and and merge them into 1 document
3) within this merged document have the abilty to be able to bookmark each page
4) have a cover page with hyperlinks
5) and finally but most important of all to be able perform steps 1 to 4 above programatically through scripting language vb script / vba
nice to haves:
6) abilty to email each merged doc to list of email address
7) abilty to edit document to add in hyperlinks etc
Need to get an understanding of costs ie
1) how much per licence
2) what product with have all the features above and how much
Can anyone please be kind enough to point me in the right direction as to what product would be best suited?? Being able
to scipt a solution together is key.

You can do everything except the cover page with Adobe Acrobat (Standard or Pro). There are demos on our website that you can install and try out. You will need the SDK documentation and sample code to learn how to automate/program.

Customers with macs cannot print my pdfs

HI, I sell PDF sewing patterns. I draft the patterns in illustrator and save them to PDF from there. My customers that are using PCs can print my newest pattern out perfectly. However, customers with macs are getting an error message when they try to print, "cannot convert postscript file" They can open the file in preview and print from there but I cannot tell all of my customers with macs they have to do this. I have 10 other patterns I have made before this one and have never had this issue. Does anyone know what may be going on?

PCs unable to open PDFs created with Mac

Hello! I do hope this is the correct place for this question.
I spent most of last night taking some InDesign documents, saving them as PDFs, uploading them to my website and letting my customers know they are on the website for the taking.
I have heard from several people today that they are unable to open the files. Only those with Macs have been able to. I have read online and in my Mac books and have been unable to determine what the problem could be.
Any ideas would be most welcome!

Since I don't know how you're creating your HTML code (coding by hand or using an application) I can't offer any advice for how to correct your problem, however I can help you with troubleshooting.
Most web browsers have a "status bar" feature that will show you what's contained in a link. I used Firefox and the status bar is enable by choosing View menu --> Status Bar. In Safari you'll choose View menu --> Show Status Bar. With this enabled, hover your mouse over a link an you'll be able to see the link at the bottom of the browser window.
The link I saw in the Status Bar had two HTTP strings running together. I was able to view the PDF by removing the first HTTP string.

PDF edits with Mac OS X Lion Aperçu don't show up on iPad: anyone with this issue?

I am using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Lion, and an iPad 2 with iOS 5. If I edit PDF files with Aperçu, the drawings or texts I have added do not display on the iPad 2. Is this a known Apple bug? Does anyone else have this problem?

Actually, it is in iBooks that I have this problem with PDF files that have been edited with Aperçu. With iPad Safari, the PDF edits are displayed correctly, through Google docs PDF viewer; I have not tried with iPad Safari independantly from Google docs, but I think it won't work. It does not work in iPad mail for such edited PDF files that are attached to a message.

Problems merging PDF's with Preview

Hi there,
I'm on 10.8.5, with Preview Version 6.0.1 (765.6). I have followed all of the steps to merge pdf's. In the title bar of the document it says there are two pages. Then I save (there is no save as command) and it only saves one page. Is there something I'm missing or is this a bug?

Tried this several times as well as every other export/save option. View as thumbnails in two separate documents and successfully see 1 document with 2 files listed in the left pane.
And though the export displays a completed progress bar just before it disapears and the file is created where I pointed, there is still only the bottom page of the the two thumbnails in the newly created file.
