Merging two videos

I'd like to create a short video, 4-5 seconds, that shows a delicious meal on a table and with a bottle of beer that has rising bubbles. The meal would be a static photograph so the only movement in the video is the bubbles. I'd like to use the same video of the bubbling beer with many different plates.So you'd put the beer track on top of the food track, but somehow everything outside the actual glass of beer would be transparent so the food plate showed through.
Is anything like this possible with Premier Pro?

I'm not sure what you mean "It starts at the shoot." The shooting is all done. I have a static
image of a meal and I have a 3 second video of the bubbling beer. The job now is
to add the beer to the meal so I get a three second video where it looks like the beer is on the table with the meal.

Is there any way to merge 2 video layers to one without exporting?

Is there any way to merge 2 video layers into one without exporting as a new QuickTime movie? I have tried opening a blank player to copy and paste into, but it always forces it to be layered, even when I change the layer numbers both to zero. I tried extracting the video layers and omitting the audio tracks. Then I saved it as a new self contained movie. I am trying to burn the video to dvd with Roxio Easy Media Creator 9's MyDVD on WIndows XP, but I am also using a MacBook with QuickTime Pro. MyDVD will only recognize one video and audio layer at a time, hence, the other layers get skipped. There should be an easy way to merge two video layers without having to export it as a new movie, which takes 2 hours for this 2 hour TV show. Thanks for any answers.

Merging two quicktime videos

Can i merge two or more videos into one long streaming video? I like to take videos of my nephew and cousins of the toddler variety but you end up with these 5 minute little videos. I was thinking about getting quicktime pro but wanted to make sure I would be able to edit the videos with quicktime pro and if I could stick one video onto the end of another.

There are threads here and over in 10.6.x forum as well as Mac related news sites about youtube, flash, plug-ins, itunes, etc performance. QuickTime doesn't surprise me.
There are also some problems with anything that requires Rosetta.
The main reason for getting 3 x 1GB RAM is usually to upgrade on your own later, hopefully cheaper, but I'd play 3GB as very minimal for this system or for 10.6.
The same behavior on same machine but running Windows 7 isn't seen, so it is Mac OS, even though iTunes and QT are mainly single threaded, not optimized, and audio tries to and tends to cause excessive cpu usage.
Don't think Apple 'says' much and someday there may be "improves compatibility and performance" is all that gets listed in software updates, you know?

I use a slightly different way than Alchroma.
Same
• One video on track 1 and the other on Video.track 2
• Resize to 25% and move one to the left and the other to the right
Diff
• I don't use the blade tool
• I use the Pen tool and change the transparency - then I get fast or slow transitions in same stroke and easy to fine-tune later if needed. (But this can be done with the Roll-tool if Blade is used - so it might be as easy)
Final
• Resize to 100% and Center
Video is done
Audio - very close to this by changing the level so that best audio will dominate
• Pen tool here too
But that's me - the Alchroma way is as good as this or may be better for some

I Am working on a project of restoring a macbook pro from old parts that I found. It works!!! But the HDD that i salvadged is ancient and gets about .15 MBPS. Not good. Its an apple certified and apple branded toshiba HDD-500G at 5400RPM. Yeah. *****
I am considering buying a new hard drive as a 480GB SSD, and using OWC's Data doubler, adding a second HDD, for all the photos and vids i will be collecting through my work in video and photo. I am considering getting an SSHD (SSD+HDD in an SSD form factor) and using this as the second drive. its not much more expensive (like 10$ more) and itgetsme semi-SSD like performance on a mass scale of storage.
HOw can I combine these two drives into ONE partition? 480GB will take awhile to fill up, but this is a future proof wall to use.
I Will eventually invest in an external storage option (2-3 HDDS in one caddy for backups and storing 1080p video all under one roof. depends if the board im using actually has thunderbolt or usb that is fast enough-because of the crappy hdd i cant get it to boot into an OS or go through usb recovery without it freezing. I ahve tried re-applying thermal paste, still doesnt help)
HOw can i easily partition these two drives into one?
also, my friend needs a new HDD because bootup times in his macbook pro are at like 2 mins+ and hes running Core 2 Duo, with 8 G ram and 10.9 (Mav) should i recommend an SSHD or an ssd. (He doesnt want an HDD, hes had bad 'voodoo' with em'. Thanks!

The real answer is to do this in Final Cut Pro X with the new multicam feature with automatic syncing using the audio wave forms.
However, it is quite possible in iMovie.
Here is how I did it in iMovie.
I recently did this for a video of my niece's senior voice recital. (Video is below)
The key is to use the Cutaway feature of iMovie. If you are not familiar with Cutaway,here is a good tutorial from Ken Stone.
I used the side camera as my base clips, and used the back camera as the cutaway clips. The back camera audio track was OK but had too much coughing and noise.
Here are tips for getting it lined up perfectly.
1) In iMovie/Preferences make sure that you check "Display Time as hh:mm:ss:frames" so you can edit to the frame level. (Also, select "Show Advanced Tools so you get the Cutaway feature)
2) In the iMovie Project View, set the thumbnail slider to 1/2 second so you have a great deal of control.
3) Initially, leave the volume at 100% on the Cutaway track, so that both tracks are playing. You can hear when they are off.
4) Click the "Waveforms" button in the Project view, so you get a visual cue of how to line up the tracks.
5) Between the audible cues and the visual cues, you can nudge the cutaway back and forth one frame at a time by dragging until you have it perfect.
6) When it is lined up to your satisfaction, set the volume slider of the Cutaway track to zero, and turn off the waveforms. You can also move the thumbnail slider back to 5 seconds or so.
7) For some of the fine work, I switched to the "single row timeline view". This slows you down a bit, but lets you see the waveforms more clearly.
8) I made heavy use of the iMovie Comment Marker feature. I watched the whole base video/audio track and inserted comment markers at the points where I wanted the Cutaway to begin and end. For example, a comment might say "Insert Cutaway 1". I would usually time the cutaway so it started at a distinct audio event, such as when the piano start. This comment marker made it easy to drag my cutaway to a point that was approximately correct.
9) If you need to do a lot of cutaways, I find that it helps to use the SPLIT CLIP command in your project. This way you can have a single cutaway per clip, and this makes it easier to manage and is less processor and memory intensive for iMovie. I would use the comments to mark the entry and exit points of the cutaway as described above. I would then select that portion of the clip that included these markers plus a little more, so that a yellow border is around the selection. Then right-click/SPLIT CLIP (or CLIP/SPLIT CLIP in the top menu). This does not physically splt the clip within the Event. It only virtually splits the clip in the project.

How to view two video files synchronously?

i have some questions about video/audio merging !
first, i have two video chips a and b ,how can i merge them into only one file,and when i view it ,the two video chips will paly together, a is on the left,and b is on the right.
second, i have two audio chips about telephoning. c is the record of one terminal,and d is the other record of terminal .i want to conbine c and d as only one file ,so,when i play it ,i will hear a full conversation.

These are back-ups for the IFO files, which are used for play and control functions for the DVD.

Is there any way i can use mac os to join two AVI files together, and then create a new copy of the combined video to show on my iPad. if i can avoid using iMovie that would be great.

As far as i know QuickTime can not support all kinds of AVI, and even it can join AVI files into one, the joined AVI files cannot be imported to iTunes, iPad, iPod, iPhone for playback.

Can iMovie split and merge audio/video?

Hi, I'm wondering if someone could help me in my decision of video-editing software. I'm considering buying iMovie 11 but I want to know first if it does a few things.
Does it let you split, move, merge, trim, fade, copy/paste, and edit the volume of audio (as opposed to iMovie 08's ability to only move, trim, and fade)?
Does it let you do the same things, but with video clips?
Also,
Does it let you export to HD (either 720p or 1028p)?
Do transitions cause the video to lose quality (like they do in iMovie HD)?

Once you have created a gridified frame, then using the Gap Tool, hold down Command or Ctl key while adjusting size of frame or gap individually. Make an adjustment where the two desired frames overlap, not just against each other. Then use the direct selection tool to select overlapped frames. Then use Object > Pathfinder > Add to merge two frames. This new frame will still be live within the gridified group.

Can anyone tell me how to merge two movies documents into one in iTunes? Sorry maybe this is an easy and dumb question for you, but I have totally no idea. I download some movies in Windows and use Kigo Video Coverter to converte them into mp4 format. So I can watch it through new Apple TV in my big screen TV. Thanks. I've tried simplemovies application but it seems too much complicated for me. I read some passages online and bought Quicktime Pro ($30) and finally link 2 mp4 documents together. So easy. Only issue is I have to pay $ 30 .

You can't merge history otherwise then using Sync to store the history and bookmarks of one places.sqlite on the Sync server and then disconnect.<br />
Copy the second places.sqlite file to your Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed.
Then setup Sync once again using that account and merge the content on the Sync server with your computer.

How can I combine two video files into one finished file?

I'm making a video of a guitar player. I'm using two cameras simultaneously. One gives the overall wide shot, and the other is zoomed in on his hands. Both cameras run at the same time. I would like to use the wide shot as the main video, and occasionally fade in clips from the zoomed in shot to show details of his playing. I can manually line up both files so they are synchronized. How do I cut a clip out of the main (wide) shot, leave the gap there, and insert a clip from the closeup? I'm putting the two video files on two of the video timelines and synchronizing them that way.
Any suggestions on how to proceed?

The effect you are looking for is 'Picture in Picture'. If you want the gap to be there for the duration of the timeline add some 'black video' - from the Tasks Pane> New Item - on the video track above the main track. Resize / position it to where you wish it to be.
Then with your second clip (now on video track 3)
Do the same sizing / positioning for it.
split video and audio and delete or disable the audio.
Cut it where you want the various start/ends of the fade to be.
Delete, or just disable (right-click) the unnecessary segments.
Apply fade in / out to the remaining segments.
