Merit and Demerit of SuperBom

Dear Experts
I am investigating about SUPERBOM.
I would like to know its MERIT and DEMERIT.
What I am thinking is below.
If you have other ideas, please add.
Merit
1. Manufucturer can handle various demand from clients and customers.
2.Efficiency of Master Maintenance. In case there are 4 parts and each parts has 4 options,
   There should be  4x4x4x4=256 kinds of Product-Code and Bom and its routing.
3.The parts are AUTOMATICALLY selected according to the selection from clients or customer, so it is easy to manufacturing.
Demerit
1.The setting is so complicated, that user could make mistakes.
Regards
Ryo Ishibashi

Hi Ryo Ishibashi,
There are many merits of using super BOM other then what you mentioned in your question.
Best way please Go through sap help, it will give you detail idea of the concept, and you would be able to frame your question in more specific way.
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_470/helpdata/EN/92/58d455417011d189ec0000e81ddfac/frameset.htm
In short i can only say, when ever you have end product with multiple options available , its easy( easy in terms of maintainance as when ever there is change aplicable to all it can be done in single BOM) and convient to use super BOM concept. But at the same time writing error free dependencies, assignement etc is time consuming as well as it require expert SAP skill set.

    I'm from Japan. My English is very poor and sorry.
    I want to operate Excel Spread sheet on Java program. I found out an information for excel spread sheet operation on Java program by using API's POI or JEXCEL.
    But I have no idea which is better. Please advice me the following topics.
    1,What's different POI and JEXCEL?
    2,What's merit and demerit POI and JEXCEL?

    My requirements are
    1,I want to pick up data from database, and create excel spread sheet on application server, and down load excel spread sheet to client.
    2,I want to update data to database created by excel spread sheets on client.
    Please advice.

    5.POI do not provide password capability for the spreadsheet.
    6.POI consumes lot of heap memory when we write data to excel sheet which causes outofmemory error.JExcelAPI also does not offer support for passwording a spreadsheet. Even if it did, breaking the password on a spreadsheet only takes seconds with the right tool.
    JExcelAPI, until recent versions, has been known to consume memory as well. Changes have been made to the code which greatly improves it's memory usage.
    Having used JExcelAPI for nearly 3 years now I would highly recommend using it. Here are some links to help:

  • Save Data with Reports

    Hi Friends,
    The Report Option has Save Data with Reports.
    What is Merit and Demerit of having this option on?
    Thanks and regards

    If you select the report option save data with report - i think it will save the report along with the data retrieved at that particular time.
    When open the report again it will show that data. The crystal reports will not search for new data, If click refresh then it will try to get the updated data. If you save the report with data, if publish the report in Infoview- open the report it will display the data without going for the dynamic data. If you schedule it then it will get the latest data from db server.
    You can view the data in crystal  reports viewer if you save the data along with the report.
    sorry for my english!!

  • Equalization and Symbol Rate

    Despite my number of posts on this board...I swear that I am happy with my NI devices....
    I noticed a peculiar thing today.  I am using some of the example programs to do some channel characterization.  The investigation is meant to be relatively simple.  I am using no baseband filtering, and since my transmitter and receiver are static I desire no equalization (in fact, right now, the up and down converters are connected via a short SMA as I do some "sanity checks".)
    I am interested in utilizing as much of the 20MHz real time bandwidth as possible...so I went into the transmitter code (for example, the PSK Generate.VI located in the Modulation Toolkit Example folder) and hardwired 20MHz in for the bandwidth.  With no baseband filtering, the original code determines BW by scaling the symbols/sec by some number (10 I think) which would limit the symbols/sec to 1MSym/sec.
    Anyway...with my 20Mhz BW...I set the symbol rate at 100kHz.  Using the PSK Demod VI in the same example directory, I observe the constellation and other measurements.  No problems here.  1Mhz symbol rate....OK.   Increase to 5Mhz...a little noisier, but OK.  Higher than that (say 10MHz symbol rate) and the MER and EVM start going way up.  Note that this is independent of the scheme (BPSK, QPSK, 8-PSK...whatever).
    I noticed that if I then turn on equalization (on both the Tx and Rx sides of course), that the MER and EVM goes way down....especially at the high symbol rates.
    So my question....I thought equalization was only necessary if the channel response changes over time (multi-path,etc.).  Why then would equalization improve things when the symbol rate gets higher?  Is it possible I'm seeing the frequency/phase offset of the upconverter and downconverter LO's?   Or, maybe I'm just approaching the limit of the hardware and the equalization routines actually help clean up non-idealities of the hardware at those rates?  For the channel I'm characterizing, I am actually interested in seeing the effect of potential multipath, so I'd rather not use the equalization routines at this time.  Maybe I'm looking at having to make a tradeoff here?
    Brandon

    Hello Brandon,
    The behavior you are seeing is expected.  The equalization filter is used to correct the amplitude and phase of the signal so that after it passes though the 5610 you have a flat passband.  There is a section of the RFSG help called IF Response and Software Equalization and it can be found under Devices >> NI 5671 Overview >> Advanced Topics >> IF Response and Software Equalization.
    I copied the typical magnitude response of the 5610 upconverter with the equalization filter disabled (upper graph) and with it enabled (lower graph) from the manual.  You can see it below.  I hope this answers your question.

  • How to see # of posts and user location now?

    Is it possible to see the number of posts users have made?
    Also, to see posters location?  This was always useful as replies in a lot of cases were dependent on where the poster was in the world.

    I don't know of any other forum that doesn't show number of posts.
    I am finding that more and more forums around the web are dropping visible post counts as they upgrade.
    The other thing that more forums are doing is killing long sigs, or killing sigs outright. I agree with that too (and I used to have one of those long lists of equipment in my sig). Both post counts and elaborate sigs are very "Look at me!" types of features, more about status than merit, and I don't miss 'em. A high post count doesn't even imply knowledge, it just means you spend a lot of time in a forum.
    Location, though, would be good to bring back as it does help prevent all kinds of cultural misunderstandings when communicating.
    As far as the convenience of using abbreviations and insular jargon if you know a member has a high post count, I don't buy it. I don't want to assume that only that person would read the thread. If a newbie reads the thread, I want my post to be readable. I guess that just supports my point.
    Now, if I could only permanently lower the font size in Apple Discussions posts...

  • Theme of company code & businesss area

    Dear Friends,
           I want to know what are the merit & demerit of one company code having  four plant & for each plant having indivisual company code & what are the advantageses of business area points must be rewarded .
    Thanks
         Amin

    Actually its not the point of mirets and demerit
    Actually we should take the decision on the actual org structure that is for your client.
    all the legal companies should be consider as company code ie ask how many balance sheet and P&L statment are they making and submitting to GOVT
    If one then only one company code. this is the thumb rule.
    u can make company codes as many as ur plants but it will have lot of issues
    FI will know it better more
    SAP will make the Balansheet and P&L for each company code and then how will u concildate to show it to govt.
    TDS will have issue, as we will have to give TDS to govt for a legal company that is registred and its not possible to miss diffrent compony code together and make one TDS report
    and ther could me other
    IN terms of MM there is nothing much legal obstruction
    but u will have to lot of setting on company code level
    hope this gives soeme idea
    Reward accordingly

    Hi all
    I'm really pleased to announce our photo competition winner, congrats to StuartRogerson - one Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 will be on Santa's sleigh with your name on it shortly!
    But there's still one Galaxy 2 to be won in part two of the competition - see below for the winning photo from Stuart. We felt this picture best captured the feeling and meaning of Christmas - but what do you think? PM a caption for this photo to StephanieG or SeanD and we'll select the best as the winner, it should be something that captures the spirit of Christmas - it can be funny, seasonal or sentimental. Last day for submitting your captions is 23rd Dec (by 5pm) so get your thinking caps on, we're looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

  • 9i Reports & DB2

    Can anyone tell me how to use 9i Reports using the IBM DB2 Connect JDBC Driver (not the JDBC-ODBC bridge)? My DB2 is on an MVS mainframe so I have to go through an IBM DB2 Connect Server on NT.
    I put the following in jdbcpds.cnf
    <driver name = "DB2 Connect"
    subProtocol = "db2"
    connectString = "mainProtocol:subProtocol:databaseName"
    class = "com.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.Db2Driver"
    connection = "oracle.reports.plugin.datasource.jdbcpds.JDBCConnectionHandling"
    loginTimeout = "0">
    </driver>
    I have oc4j.jar in the classpath.
    In the Oracle Reports connect string I have tried just specifying a database name that is registered in my DB2 Connect client and specifying Server:6789:database, where server is the NT box running the DB2 JDBC Applet Server on port 6789 and database is a database registered on the server.
    I get Error 62002 from the JDBC query build connection on everything I have tried.
    I have been able to successfully run a Java test program using the DB2 Connect driver and the same JDK where Reports is intalled.
    I have an open tar but not making any progress. They tell me I need to use the DataDirect DB2 driver, which I have tried with the same results. I don't believe it will work via the DB2 Connect Server.

    Janet,
    Keep the driver name as "sybase-merant" and other details as of db2 and try.
    <driver name = "sybase-merant"
    subProtocol = "db2"
    connectString = "mainProtocol:subProtocol:databaseName"
    class = "com.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.Db2Driver"
    connection = "oracle.reports.plugin.datasource.jdbcpds.JDBCConnectionHandling"
    loginTimeout = "0">
    </driver>
    There would be a whitepaper on complete steps for using JDBCPDS with different database drivers soon in otn reports product page
    Thanks

  • Camileo S10 - 16/9 recording at FULL HD

    I have the same problem with friend *rodarko* ([m-169634] ). I have seen his thread, but nobody since now have found a solution. I will try to desribe my exact problem.
    When I record at 16:9 full HD everything seems ok. But when I try to play it on my computer with Arcsoft player, some files are played 16:9 and some others are played 4:3.
    I have made a lot of tryies but the only thing that I have found out is that usually the files that works on 16:9 format, are not the first 5 that I have record. So If I record 4 or 5 or 6 (I do not know why) files, then the next files can be played on 16:9.
    This does not hapens all the times. My camera is Camileo S10 and my card is Kingston 8GB HC (SD6/8GB).
    I wanter why TOSHIBA didn't found any solution, and ofcourse I wanter why they have put the following message (This thread is locked - replies are not allowed.)on the same answer of user rodarko!
    Any way please if you know anything give me an answer. Thank you

    I had similar problem ..... all videos shot in full HD (on my Camileo P30) but some of them on windws were reported as they were shot in 1440x1080.(4:3) and some as 1920x1080
    To solve that you must know how windows system works.
    By doubleclicking an AVI (or opening it by an editing software or player) background process will try to decode such video. Such process is not part of editing software or player, it is part of windows.
    For proper decoding such process will take some infos from AVI file and will try to load apropriate codec for proper interpretation of file stream. When codec is found it will be loaded and used to decode file stream into video and audio streams and those streams then will be returned to host application (editor or player).
    Today, on average computer you can find tons of codecs. On my own ther is over 130 for different file formats.
    You also should know that some codecs avaliable are not finished completly or doesn't support all possible variations of file formats. (new header sections etc)
    To be capable to chose right codec from the bunch windows use some kind of flag called MERIT which is associated to each codec. So codecs with MERIT_VALUE='DO NOT USE' will never be used while codecs with MERIT_VALUE='Prefered' or 'above prefered' will mostly like used.
    The key point of problem from topic and all other problems related to corrupted video or video doesn't load in editor (or player) is MERIT number of probably incomplete (or old) codec.
    If MERIT of such codec is high then other (maybe newer) codes with MERIT set to normal will never get chance to load. To fix that you have several options. One could be to uninstall old or problematic codec. It is easy if codec came as single unfortunately most of codecs come in packs. Removing complete pack is not solution since other codec could be good and are used for other types of videos.
    The best way is to manually change MERIT value for problematic codec to value 'DO NOT USE'.
    To do that easy you'll need simple GRAPH STUDIO. It is small application which comes with KLite codec pack. (maybe it is available as standalone too or with other codec packs too).
    When you start it just drag'n drop an AVI file into it and it will automatically build the graph for it. Graph is network of nodes where each node represent one of used codec for interpretation of used file.
    Remember, graph auto-created here will be exact the same as windows creates in background when some editor or player opens file.
    Usually, AVI file has FILE SOURCE node connected to AVI_SPLITTER node which separate audio and video streams from source file. It is then connected to some video decompressor and audio decompressor which are REAL CODECS. Play button alows to test the graph. If video plays fine then everything is ok but if something is corrupted or video is not in right aspect then you have to do following:
    1. To try ffdshow codec you'll have to select and delete your video codec from the graph
    2. Manually insert ffdshow video decoder node (Graph->Insert filter->ffdshow video decoder)
    3. connect it in the graph as your previous deleted node was connected (stream0 from AVIsplitter to IN of ffdshow node and OUT from ffdshow node to IN of your video renderer)
    4. test such graph by playing it
    This is just a test and will not reflect any changes in windows. If now you get your video properly works you'll have to change the MERIT of codec you are replaced by ffdshow.
    To do that:
    1. Close graph editor
    2. Reopen it and again drag'n drop your AVI file into it
    3. Remember the name of node you want to replace with ffdshow
    4. Find it in the list of all filters installed on the system (click Graph->Insert filter and find it in the list of all filters then just select it and click button CHANGE MERIT and chose DO_NOT_USE)
    5. Also in the same list find ffdshow video decoder, select it and turn on check box FAVORITE FILTER (you may also want to increase it's merrit)
    Now close the graph editor. Open it agin and drag'n drop same AVI file. If auto-created graph now contains ffdshow video decoder, everything is fine.
    If you get some other codec (it is possible if you had installed let say 4 codecs for H264 video.... you disable only one, 3 are still available and some of these could have larger MERIT value than ffdshow. Don't worry, just test graph with such codec. It is possible to work fine. If not disable it on the same way you did with previouse.)
    Graph Studio has many interesting options you can play it like performance testing, experiment with your own graphs making outputs goes to disk instead of screen etc. You can also sve your graphs and use it ie. for conversion from one format to another etc.
    I hope this help.
    At the end sorry for my English, it is not my mother tongue language.

  • Migrating MS SQL Server 7.0 TO Oracle 8.1.5

    Hello,
    We are currently using Win NT 4.0, MS SQL Server with a PVCS Tracker 6.0 from Merant and will be upgrading to PVCS Dimension 6.0 from Merant.

  • Workforce Planning Customization Assistance

    We are rolling out a very vanilla planning application in the next few weeks. The application consists of a plan named FinPlan (contains income statement, balance sheet, etc.) and a plan called Payroll (workforce planning plan type). The WFP is the piece I am struggling with as I am working to customize many of the calcs (we wont use the performance metrics - mainly just the headcount, salary, taxes, merit, and possibly benefits tracking and calculation) and am stuck trying to unwind some of the predefined rules that come out of the box when you intialize WFP. I have downloaded the admin guide and it has been helpful, but it isnt enough to keep me going. Here are my current questions I am trying to run down...
    1. What is the best way to track an employee's job title? I can't use the "position" member as it is a predefined smart list and we will have too many variations to try and list there (Director is a position, but we have 20 different director level positions I need to keep track of). This will help with open position budgeting as turnover occurs and we keep a total fixed number of employees in the system based on the approved org chart. I was thinking of having a member with text properties associated with the employee name when I set them up. Not sure if that will be enough to have it available for reporting and other analysis.
    2. Do you have to input the "merit month" by employee? We have an annual merit cycle where everyone receives their appropriate raise at the same time. I tried applying the merit month and % increase in a similar fashion as I did payroll taxes but it did not work. For taxes I loaded rates at the "No Entity", "No Scenario", etc levels and it applied to all employees properly. I would assume whatever method will work for merit would also work for equity adjustments or merit overides (where someone gets planned to receive a "higher than average" merit increase).
    3. Can someone provide some insight around how to plan over multiple years? We will be planning in 2013 in this application. Our model is built to covers a 5-year strategic view (2013-2017) as well. Is there a way to have whatever we plan in 2013 carry over into subsequent years so that our 2014-2017 years build on 2013 with an assumption around merit each year? I assume this will require a business rule to make happen but wanted to verify before i start down that path.
    Thanks in advance for your help. In addition, any assistance or resources anyone can point me to would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jake,
    Take a look at page 81 in the Workforce Planning Admin Guide for 9.3 at:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/wfp_admin.pdf
    I'm guessing you are looking at the formula in Essbase and not in Planning. In Planning it should say something like
    If ([FiscalOffset] == 0) ...
    As part of the planning deployment to Essbase that it changed to reflect the month offset from Jan based on a Fiscal Year not beginning in Jan.
    Please let me know if you have any more questions.

  • Stop netting for semi finished materials

    Hi all,
       We are still using 46C. We have finished goods that are configurable and we use SUPERBOMs to pick the component that go along with the finished goods. I have a requirement where I have to stop the netting process for some semi finished materials in a certain storage location. We currently use strategy group '40' for semi finished.
    I tried to use storage location MRP indicatior (MRP 4 view, sloc indicator). By doing so MRP stopped the netting which is what I wanted but it also stopped creating any new planned orders.
    I want planned orders to be created but MRP should not read the stock. For example if the requirement is of 10 pcs and I have lets say 6 in stock, I still need planned order of 10.
    I am more leaning toward writing a Z program to wipe out the inventory every night before the MRP run but was curious to see if there is any strategy group that I can use on the components to satisfy my needs.
    Thanks a lot for your help.
    Regards
    Srikant

    Hi Srikant
        For this situation you can go for a User Exit! while MRP run
        1. first create a user defined field in the material master for Unrestricted stock exclusion.
       2, create the User exit which should be used while plant level MRP run.
        the user exit should select materials for exclusion of SLOC stock.
    for those materials you can use the following logic in the user Exit
    if the Unres stock is availbale then then user exit should dynamically create a safety stock value so that MRP will neglect the Unrestricted stock and create the Proc Proposal for full quantity.
    hope this helps

  • Dynamic change of bom qty ijn VC

    hi all
    i have a case of variant configuration in which the qty of the components have to be entered at the time of sale order.
    below is a small example.
    i have a class called interfaces in which i got values card1, card2, card3 for which i have defined roh's and in the superbom qty as 1 for each card. but their requirement is that for one configuration, they can have 5 of card1 and 2 of card2 or 8 of card3 or so on. the reqmt changes from one order to another.
    i am not able to map this.
    can anyone help me out please
    quite urgent
    chandra

    Hi Chandra,
    if i understood correctly, you want the system to assign the item quantities dynamically based on your values. You can easily do this through reference characteristics. Lets say for example, if you want to assign the BOM item quantities dynamically based on one of your characteristic value... create a reference characteristic and in the additional data, give the table name and field i.e for example if you take bom item.. table is STPO and field is MENGE, then write a procedure and assign this to bom item..
    hope this might solve ur problem..

  • How do I get the SUN jdbc-odbc bridge to work?

    Hi,
    I'm trying to us the SUN 1.2 jdbc-odbc bridge on Oracle 8.
    I have installed the ODBC driver from www.intersolv.com
    (Merant) and have successfully tested it.
    I have SUN 1.2 installed and verified that
    the sun JdbdOdbcDriver is in my CLASSPATH.
    My driver path is:
    sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver
    My url is
    jdbc:odbc:Oracle8
    my odbc.ini is correct, and my ODBCINI is set.
    when I try to connect I get "No suitable driver".
    The SUN documentation indicates this error means
    my shared libraries aren't correct, but I have
    verified my ODBC setup with a odbc demo app.
    Any suggestions on how to form my url?
    Has anyone used the bridge on Solaris?
    null

    The display is just too dim.  I tried the brightness and backlight settings and these do not work.  This has been like this since I bought it.  Never bothered to deal with it before and just made do with reading a very dim menu.

  • ODBC Driver for Solaris

    I'm in need of an ODBC Driver for Oracle 8.1.6. We can't use Merant and Openlink doesn't support 8.1.6 yet. Any suggestions?

    I would appreciate it if you would direct me to some information on the fact that 8i does not support the OpenLink ODBC driver.
    Thanks
