Merry Christmas to our benefactors!

What would we do without the generous assistance we obtain from this forum? I can only say that I have eyeballed a few other sites, and the Final Cut Express forum seems very special to me.
What a year 2010 was! Tom soared over the 30,000 mark with responses to our questions. The redoubtable Sasha did two seminal posts on Basic Troubleshooting and AVCHD. And those other illustrious names over there to the east of this page spent time and effort getting us all back on track.
Christmas is upon us, and I have put together a few words of deathless doggerel as a modest tribute to the Final Cut Gladiators who do such great work for us Forumistas.
Very sincerely, and I know I speak for all our readers, thank you, thank you, thank you.
OK. Horns up. To the tune of “Winter Wonderland.” Everyone?
Sleigh bells ring, I’m not listening
On my brow, sweat is glistening
My audio’s shot
My video’s rot
Struggling in my FC blunderland
Gone away are my titles
Where in heck are my vitals
like nicely made cuts
with smoothed out abutts
and dialogue that people understand?
Rescue comes! On the horizon
Tom Wolsky has both eyes on
this account of my plight
A solution’s in sight
Soon a groovy movie I’ll have canned.

Who dives in shouting “here goes”
he knows how to fix
erroneous flicks
and he stops me sinking in quicksand.

Christmas, but not its warmth, I hope, is slipping behind us, and this post is sailing away to the anonymity of Page2Land.
So thank you all for the replies and good wishes, and I shall finish up with a quote from Charles Dickens:
“A merry Christmas to everybody! A happy New Year to all the world!”

  • Merry Christmas: Beginners Guide to the Basicest Questions

Merry Christmas Everyone..im sure everyone's got a bunch of questions about thier new iPod ( there's a new thread every 5 secs about adding/removing songs) This is bascially a retelling of a thing called the MANUAL
concept of the " hold" switch
-it is located on the top of the iPod
-when it is showing the red part, that means all the buttons are disabled
-when it is showing the white part, that means all buttons are functional
-this is used to prevent accidentally pressing a button on the iPod
    Turning it on and off:
to turn on: press any button
to turn it off: hold the play (>) button untill the screen turns off
-notice- the click wheel may still click after it's off, don't worry, the iPod IS off
-to prevent accidentally turning the iPod on, move the hold switch to show the red
To add a song from CD:
    1: insert CD
2:on the top-right, press "burn disk"
3: let the songs be added to the iTunes library (this step is automatic)
4:assuming software has been installed, attach iPod
5: iPod icon in the source list (left side) will appear
6: the mp3's from the library should automatically sync with the iPod(all the music in the library will be copied unto the ipod)
7:press the eject button next to the iPod's icon and disconnect the iPod
    8: listen to the music!
    To remove a song:
    1: go to the library
    2:select song to be deleted
3: right click ( control - click on a one button mouse in mac)
    4: select clear
to fast forward a song in the iPod, go to "now playing" (shows up if you're playing a song) and press the center button until you get to a bar with a diamond. Use the scroll wheel to choose where to fast forward or rewind ( this is also applicable with videos)
-the thing to remember (if you selected the iPod to autosync with your library) is that anything in the library is what will be in the iPod-
    video part coming soon...
if there's any inconsistensies to fix or anything you want to add, go ahead
some very helpful links (for video compatibility)
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/5929/
-lastly, please, don't overcomplicate yourself, the answer to your question may be REALLY, REALLY basic-

Please help...this is going to sound so stupid:) But here goes---I just got my first IPOD--30GB. I'm so excited but trying to use the extras is a bit frustrating. I really did try to read how to use this but I am uncertain. Is there the calendar option through ICAL or is it through ITunes? Hope you can help. Also the contact option. I think it is just a matter of someone telling me a few things and then I think I will be fine. Thanks for any help you can give. Loved finding this site...it really is helpful to know others struggle also.

  • Can you please advise? Thank you and Merry Christmas.

In Safari, I can get past an 'I agree' screen to access various contributor's websites linked to a blog.
In FireFox, I click the 'I agree' button but FireFox loops me straight back to the same 'I agree' page. I want to use the DownloadHelper plugin to download video clip content and such a plugin does not exist for Safari.
Thank you and I wish you a Merry Christmas.

If you are using the Email App: tap and hold on the attachment icon and Select an App to Open it in.  Such as iBooks for PDFs.  The file will then be saved to that Apps file area and be available for offline viewing.
If you are viewing in Safari tap on the twisted arrow icon and tap on Open In... option.  Then choose an App to open and save the file to.

  • Merry Christmas! iTunes won't run on my desktop machine

    Hi!
    Operating System - XP pro
I have recieved a nice new iPod nano for crimbo. I already had a previous version of iTunes on my desktop as a friend was using it for their mini some time ago. I installed all the software which came with the new nano and for some reason when i plug the nano in it comes up with an error message saying iTunes caused an error and won't load. I have uninstalled via control panel/ reinstalled using the latest version of iTunes from apple and its the same error.
I have installed iTunes on my laptop (which didn't have a previuous version of iTunes on it) and it is working fine. It's just a pain only having it working on that machine.
Has anyone else had problems? I am guessing it might have something to do with the registry or something that cannot be removed via control panel.
Happy Christmas to all and I hope Santa was good to you!

Welcome to the discussions. Merry Christmas!
Try posting in the iTunes forum; this seems like an iTunes related question.
    Good luck,
    JC

Merry Christmas , I'm trying to sync icloud to my iPad from my iPhone , please advise.

    Howdy Joanas,
It sounds like you would like to set up the same iCloud account on your iPad that you have on your iPhone. First I would verify the Apple ID you are using on the phone here:
    Settings > iCloud
From: Using your Apple ID for Apple services
              http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895
On your go to the same place, and set up the the same Apple ID to that one.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

always happy to see you here. feel free to make contributions to threads, too. (i note that Arnaud's thread went silent after you made the suggestion about the USB hub ... in the context, i felt that was a good sign.)

  • Free 2-way Radio and Shortwave Template (Merry Christmas)

I'm provided a free sample template to use as a baseline for all things 2-way radio and shortwave FX.
Basically two radio operator voice tracks, routed to a buss, which is then side-chained to a track containing noise for FX.  Side-Chain uses dynamic ducking compression, however, curve is reversed so noise plays as static (rather than dipping) when the channel is "open" as the operator speaks.  Then silenced to mimic noise canceling.
Seperate tracks containing hiss and tone, running constant, are also available for added FX.
All files are included in a package, with sample radio operators (Which you will replace with your own files), for demo.
All tracks have independ FX in stack for greater shaping and control.
All FX follow traditional Gain, EQ, Compression stacking.
Master channel has additional Gain, EQ, and Compression for recovery and final output.
All settings are set to extream by default, and can be dialed down for more subtle FX.
All rights granted to use to your hearts content, I only ask for credit as the author of the template.
    Merry Christmas and enjoy.

    Thank you!
I've had to build two way radio effects many a time but (probably due to encroaching senility) have never thought to save them as a template!

  • Hostname - Merry.Christmas  ???

I opened up my console today and noticed my hostname had changed to "merry" I thought this was very unusual, so took a look at the system log and found the following entries:
Dec 7 03:15:15 merry syslogd: restart
Dec 7 03:15:15 merry syslogd: hostname changed, "localhost" to "merry"
    Dec 7 04:06:44 merry ntpd[318]: time reset -0.407643 s
    Dec 7 04:06:44 merry ntpd[318]: synchronisation lost
This time I was definatly in bed fast asleep as my dvd was encoding and burning.
So I rebooted the machine again, this time after bootup I found the following entry in the log:
    Dec 14 00:05:47 localhost configd[89]: executing /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/Kicker.bundle/Contents/Resources/set-hostna me
    Dec 14 00:05:48 localhost set-hostname[477]: setting hostname to merry.christmas

  • Merry Christmas, My "New" PB, First Impressions...

My first post and first Mac:
Not new to computers, but new to Macs. As a rule, I try to help other users as at least as much as the help I receive. That won't be the case on this forum, as I'm a total Mac noob. Perhaps, as time passes, I'll be able to field simple questions, but that may take a while.
This Christmas we replaced our son's two year old PB with an MBP. We got the hand-me-down. We wouldn't even own a Mac, except it's required by his college for digital design. This is also my first notebook, so I guess many issues are unique to that fact.
After one day of ownership, I've had the following observations:
    1. During file transfer over airport, application "locked up", or was "unresponsive". My son used the equivalent of the Windows Task Manager to close it.
    2. iTunes was unusable because, "The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder." Resolved by changing properties of... something, didn't get the full story yet, but it has to do with changing administrator of the computer.
    3. Bluetooth does not have A2DP protocol... bummer!
    4. Saw the DVD unable to be ejected from his MBP during OS installation. Sheesh!
Well, that's it so far. I will be back with questions, because he'll be going back to school in a couple weeks. I generally find answers via Google, but sometimes that's not enough. My first impressions are a little disappointing, but maybe that's because I've heard too much hype, such as "It Just Works", and "Switch to a Mac and You'll Never Go Back". I own it, now I'm gonna use it by hook or by crook!

One other point I forgot to mention was regarding the rubber feet on the bottom. One was lost, so my son removed a second in order for it to sit level. Online, I found the price of replacements at $20.00! I'm using a couple old mouse feet in the mean time, but is there not an aftermarket source for such items at a reasonable price?
Probably not, but who cares? If you can let go of having to have the exact size, thickness, and material, you can do what I've done for years: Go to your neighborhood hardware store or drugstore and pick up a $1 sheet of little self-adhesive rubber feet. There are many kinds, of course, mostly hovering around one dollar for more than you'll ever need. The ones I picked are clear, so no one notices they don't quite match, and thicker, so they absorb shock better and raise the back another millimeter or two for better bottom ventilation, and they "grab" better so the laptop no longer slides around with a slight nudge. These are actually better than the original equipment feet.

My PowerBook G4 has 13.29GB of music in iTunes, doesn't seem to be any problem. On the Mac Pro I've got 30GB of audio and video.
