Mess with adprep during SBS 2003 DC upgrade

I have SBS2003 and want to add 2012 DC. During the process I ran adprep BEFORE raised the DC functional level to Windows 2003. Now the SBS2003 DC functional level raised but the DC promotion failed. Every time the dc try to join SBS2003 the error indicated
that the functional level is still 2000. When i tried to re-run the adprep, the adprep telling me it is ran already and don't need re-run. Is anyone done this before? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Based on your description, I understand that you want to add a Windows Server 2012 DC to the SBS 2003 network.
à
Now the SBS2003 DC functional level raised but the DC promotion failed.
I noticed that you had raised Domain Functional Level to Windows Server 2003. Please check and confirm if have
raised Forest Functional Level. Then monitor the result.
If this issue still exists, please run
SBS BPA and then check if find some relevant clues.
By the way, for additional Domain Controllers in SBS domain, please also refer to following article and check

  • Best way to sync Outlook 2007 calendar with Exchange on SBS 2003

I currently have Vista and Outlook 2007.
My email, contacts and calendar are all in a OST file, which syncs to our Windows SBS 2003 server and the Exchange installed on it.
How should I configure my iPhone and iTunes, in order to have my calendar in iPhone?
After trying for several times to sync through iTunes without any success (could never have any items imported to the iPhone) I did create an Exchange account on my iPhone with the IP address of our SBS server, and my account details, and now all my items seem to appear (however they all have Accept/Maybe/Refuse buttons).
Is this the correct way? Will I get alarms for my appointments, even if I don't accept them on the iPhone?
    Thank you!

OK, I think I figured it out, with Apple's iCloud instructions and a little help from campus tech support. This only applies to people using Outlook with Microsoft Exchange.
Enable iCloud on your computer (running Lion) and your iPhone. http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html
Then go to your iPhone's Mail icon, click on Add Account > Microsoft Exchange and enter your login info.
Doing this transferred my work email and calendar to my phone wirelessly.

  • Is Verizon messing with users iPhones so they will upgrade?

I was having low-memory exceptions on my iphone 4 for the past 3 weeks, doing everything suggested to fix. Finally, I realized it must have been a hardware issue because refreshing my phone resulted in the same issue: apps closing, phone battery dying quickly and pages and pages of diagnostic log showing dataaccessd exceptions. I was doing nothing more than streaming pandora.
I still like this phone but if it's going to be broken, no warranty will fix it. So I figured id purchase iphone 5.
Almost the next day, my iPhone 4 suddenly works perfect again. I have the logs to prove it. I am watching the Iphone Console log now and it is not doing the same things it was doing before I purchased the Iphone 5.
Unfortunately, i'm certain people are going to think i'm crazy. But before doing that, please read your contract where Verizon explicitly states they have a right to alter the software on your phone without a notice. It's all in there (i know because my purchase session timed out because i'm one of the few who actually takes the time to read contracts - there is something else they need to fix. had to redo the whole purchase over again after verifying my CC wasn't charged already -simply because it took me 20 minutes to read the fine print).
Granted, I hate to believe they intentionally caused low memory conditions and that they might have been stupid enough to put my old phone into a working state. Maybe they fixed something on their network? But it is sort of strange and I heard from a friend of mine that the same thing happened to her except it was with Cricket.
So my question is: what does Verizon routinely alter in users phones that we may be unaware of?

It's unlikely Verizon was doing anything malicious.  The cost to a corporation the size that they are, would be enormous if they did.
More than likely, you have a real issue on your iPhone 4S and that issue is intermittent.  I have a Thunderbolt made by HTC that I bought in October 2011.  In my example, one day the touch screen works fine, then a moment or two later, it does really strange things ranging from freezing, to not allowing certain letters of the qwerty keyboard to function, to allowing the 7 screens to move back and forth, then get half way stuck between them.  If I power the phone back off, then on, I can go a whole day without any problems.  Then the next day, it acts up again.
    Enjoy your new phone!

  • Migrate SBS 2003 with AD and Exchange to Windows Server 2012 Standard

We are using SBS 2003 and we have configured Exchange server and AD with DNS and DHCP. Now we are planning to move SBS 2003 to Separate servers like windows server 2012 standard AD with DNS and DHCP and Windows server 2012 Standard with Exchange
    2010.
Is it Possible?? we need step by step guide.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You probably would not find any step by step guide for this kind of migrations. If you are not comfortable with doing such migrations I would recommend to if you need to do it your self do some test migrations. Or otherwise get help by a local IT company
    that is familiar with migrations.
But to give you some information, first thing before starting a migration is check the health of your SBS 2003 server / domain. Use tools like dcdiag, netdiag and best practice analyzer. I wrote a blog post about steps to think about before you start this
    might help: http://blog.ronnypot.nl/?p=914
When every thing is clean you can start adding the new windows server 2012 machines as member servers to your domain.
Next you can promote one of the servers to additional domain controller on your domain (Keep in mind SBS needs to hold all FSMO roles so moving these is the last step your should do.) Also promoting a windows server 2012 to domain controller has slightly
changed, you need to install the ADDS role and follow the wizard to promote the server to a DC.
With installation of the new DC install DNS allongsite it will automatic replicate settings during confiugration.
DHCP must be installed manual, depending on your scope and settings it might be as easy to create a new scope and disable the old dhcp server.
On the server Exchange needs to be installed, make sure you install and do all pre-requirements. Than install Exchange it will automaticly detect you already have an Exchange organization and is installed as additional server. You can configure all settings
and when everything is configured right you start moving mailboxes.
When everything is moved away from the SBS 2003 server, uninstall exchange, move the FSMO roles to the new DC and after that demote the sbs 2003 server so it is not listed anymore as an additional DC in the domain. Last would be shutdown the server and remove
all records left in AD and DNS.
There is this guide for migrating SBS 2003 to windows server 2008 R2 and Exchange 2010, this might give you some usefull information, not everything will be the same but it is a good start:

    Dear,
it looks that an inative nametab is available with no fields.
Could you please check how it is defined in se11 ?
you may perform the checks there as a first step for analysing this issue.

Currently using Photoshop CS5, but with a replacement computer and upgrade to Yosemite, keep being told I need to install the legacy Java 6. Currently, Photoshop won't even open. I absolutely do not want to subscribe, don't want to mess with the cloud, just want to buy an upgrade to something that will run for a while longer. I don't care about Lightroom, Bridge, Illustrator, etc.; most of those I've deleted over the years. But I do use Photoshop - or would if it would still run. What options do I have?

This is the java you need for photoshop cs5 to work on mac os x 10.10 Yosemite
    https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?locale=en_US
It's also possible you may have to reinstall photoshop cs5 even after installing the above java, because sometimes the upgrade to mac os x 10.10 messes up the photoshop cs5 installation.
You can download photoshop cs5 from here if you don't already have the install media.

I see.  If you go to Settings>General>About>Name, that is the current name of your phone.  The backup bearing that name should be the more recent one, and therefore the one you want to keep.  I would delete the other one (presumably the one set up by Best Buy under your real name, assuming you changed it later), then see if that gives you enough space to back up again.
If it still reporting insufficient storage, use this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4847 to try to determine what's taking up all your room.  In them meantime, you can perform a manual backup on your computer so your have a current one while you're troubleshooting this.  To do so, connect your phone to iTunes, then right-click on the name of your phone on the left side and select Back Up.

  • How to achieve streaming audio and video with SBS 2003

Basic Fact:  SBS 2003 is frozen at SP1.  I am connecting to Verizon DSL--now Frontier DSL-- using their DSL modem, which is a Linksys 7550 modem.  The gateway on the modem card is 192.168.254.254.  Communication to and from the internet
works, but there is apparently a lot of noise on the line and SBS2003 responds by disconnecting the WAN line.  I have to get to the Network Connections page, select the WAN connector, right-click it and tell it to repair itself (an image that is definitely
R-rated).  Where can tell the system to not disable the WAN line if it detect some noise?  This process of repairing the line is inconnevient when I am in the room with the SBS box, and impossible if I am trying to stream video to the set in the
    living-room.

    Hi Hollis:
It is not clear why the server is in play here.  If you have a "better than average" firewall at the edge you can use SBS in a single NIC config and from your living room go straight to the internet through the firewall and the ISP device
without impacting the SBS other than for DNS.
And if you don't care about who accesses your internal network from the internet a "better than average" firewall would not be required.
Larry Struckmeyer[MVP] If your question is answered please mark the response as the answer so that others can benefit.
    Larry,
Thanks for the reply. What you are really saying is that SBS server is so complicated and. because so little is documented about its guts and internal workings, that it is better to treat it as a black box and use an external solution. That is a sad commentary
on a really good product, even if I am frozen at 2003 SP1. There really has to be somewhere that the wan line is set to be disabled on the lowest level of noise. There should be a means of boosting that trigger level. If we just knew where it is done.
Given that that we really are dealing with a black box here, can you give me the names of a few firewalls qualifying as "better than average". I do recognizing that I am living at that queasy stage where any major catastrophy with the server will
cause complete abandonment of the server, and all the conveniences it provides. When the motherboard died last time I bit the bullet and replaced it at not too great a cost. So, here we are again--do I convert to just Frontier security offerings and google
apps. Google is notorius for providing no support. Then again, the Microsoft products are so bloated that I use less than 10% of any one. Fortunately, that 10% has really never needed any support. And I have pretty much given up pondering the use of XML due
to a dirth of info from Microsoft about it. Sigh. I think I had better take a dramamine before going farther into the murk here.

I used to have a SBS2003 on ISA running activesync with no issues so I'll try and give you guidance although it's been a while.  I gather this is the first time use of this feature on this SBS?  If so make sure you follow the instructions here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc182239.aspx
Also make sure you've enabled all mobile services in exchange features and updated your users with the Mobile User profile (I think they need to be members of the Mobile and Remote Web Workplace groups in Manage Users IIRC).  Anything in the event logs?
Also, for some phones you need to manually download the certificate if you use a self-signed type.
Note that in the end it may be time to replace this soon to be unsupported ISA with a separate firewall (or a "free" Untangle box) and go to a one NIC solution.  It simplifies things and you need to do that anyway to transition off SBS2003 when it is
    unsupported next year.

  • Getting iPhone 3G (2.1) to sync with Exchange SBS 2003

    Hi all.
I am a rather n on-technical person wishing to get some help troubleshooting my problem.
I have the above new iPhone needing to sync with my calendar, ctcs and email on my work Exchange SBS 2003.
Really need someone kind (and patient?!) enough to take me from the start. Setting up the phone has been easy enough, I think it is the server end that is my real problem.
Have had a Windows Mobile device working exactly as I want the iPhone to work over the last 15 months.
    Heeeeelp please....

As I read you updated your iPhone to 2.2.1. That means that maybe this cause the problem.
Sometimes when I connect my iPhone to iTunes I saw the message what says that "iTunes was unable to connect to the iPhone... " but if I reconnect my iPhone then iTunes recognize my phone and everything is OK.
If the reconnecting does not help you then I advise that reset your iPhone with 'Erase All Data and Settings'. Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Data and Settings.
If you reset your iPhone with 'Erase All Data and Settings' then your iPhone will delete your files and also the 2.2.1 software update and after that it will run with the original software what you bought with it.
The reset takes approximately 2 hours. And this is delete everything from your iPhone.
So, as it seems you can't back up your iPhone, that means everything what is on your iPhone will be deleted except if you don't have them on your computer.
After you reseted your iPhone, try to connect with iTunes. If it won't works then try it on an another Mac or PC and if you can't sync your iPhone at all, you have to take your iPhone to your carrier for a service.
Important note: After you reseted your iPhone, it will please that connect to iTunes to activate the phone. If you can't connect to iTunes your phone, you won't be able to use it!
As you know, without activating you can't use the iPhone.
If you can do the activation then you probably will be able to sync it.
If you can't be without mobile phone and just the iPhone what you've then don't do that until you maybe could miss your phone (I mean if you iPhone have to be serviced).

  • Upgrading raid firmware messes with drive data?

I need to upgrade both 1.5.0 controllers on one of my x raid so that later I can use then on a second x raid with 750gb drives. the second x raid is having lots of problems losing connection to a xserver and I need to pinpoint to see if it is a controller problem.
the question is. upgrading the 1.5.0 controllers to 1.5.1 messes with the data and settings on a simple raid5 on both sides of the raid storage? I don't have the time and mainly space to backup the data.
    thanks.
    Nuno

No upgrading the controller firmware doesn't affect the drives/arrays or data.
That's not to say you shouldn't have a viable backup of your data, but it's not a prerequesite for updating the firmware. :)

  • Accidently removed a mailbox on the SBS 2008 server during the migration from SBS 2003

I accidently removed a legacy mailbox from the SBS 2008 server while still doing the migration from SBS 2003.  I meant to click on the Move Mailbox like the instructions said but clicked on the Remove option, then clicked the 'X' to close the box since
I figured that would cancel what I did however it removed the mailbox from the SBS 2008 list.
Please tell me that I can get it back.  It still shows up in the old SBS Exchange System Manager but now when an email is sent, it sends back a no delivery message.  It's like the account doesn't exist any more.
Can it be recovered and if so, how?
