Message alert / screen state

New to iPhone - I know you now get message alerts even if the phone is locked, but is there any kind of alert if the screen is off?
so the screen power goes off/power save and unless I press something I still don't know there is a message/call etc?

When an alert first comes in, it will light-up the screen and display it. Then your screen will go back off a short time later. When the screen is off, you are correct that you won't see the alerts until you hit a button to light the screen up again, but when the alert comes it, it does turn the screen on for a short time, so you can still see it when it comes in.

By "open", I think you mean you cannot unlock your iPhone.

I can't find the new text message alerts for every person - help!

Hi.
As I frequently check the Apple website, I visited the iOS 4.2 download site. It said that you get custom text tones and 17 new sounds.
So I updated to get the new things. But then I checked Settings to see the new alerts and what they sounded like. But I only found the same old Tri-tone, glass, horn, etc. There were no new ones.
So I checked Phone, but there was no custom text message alert option.
Am I the only one experiencing this problem? I have an 8 month old iPhone 3GS and it works great.
I am also suspecting that it could be an iPhone 4-only deal.Which would be ridiculous because I would be really upset to see that Apple only cares about the people who cash in their hard-earned bucks on every new Apple gizmo they set eyes on.

I understand that it has been answered and has been said that it is for the iPhone 4 only; however, on their website it does not specify that, this is exactly what it states:
"Messaging with text tones
Know who’s texting without looking at your screen. Choose from 17 new alerts and assign custom tones for people in your contact list.
iPhone only."
If I am not mistaken, "iPhone only" includes every iPhone generation to which 4.2 can be installed in, not just the iPhone 4. If it is in case for the 4 only, then they should have specified and not made a misleading advertisement about it since every iPhone user has been waiting for new tones of any sort since the first iPhone ever came out. Making it available for only iPhone 4 users is a very fowl move from Apple since it's such a basic thing to the phone itself. They should address the issue correctly and make it available for the 3G and 3GS.
Apple just asked for angry customers with this one and they definitely know it's not fair.

Is there a way to turn off the message alert "Cellular data is turned off for _____"?

I turned off cellular data for about half of my apps so I don't go over my data limit (Thanks AT&T). Now every time I open these apps a message alert pops up saying "Cellular Data is Turned Off for _____. You can turn on cellular data for this app in Settings" And it gives two buttons, "Settings" and "Ok".
If it were only a few times, I wouldn't care about closing this message. But now that I have to do it like 20-30 times a day, it has become SUPER ANNOYING. Seriously Apple, how do I turn your stupid message off??? I TURNED OFF MY CELLULAR DATA FOR A REASON, please stop reminding me of what I already know.
AND the worst part is, when that message pops up it locks the phone so the home button doesn't work. Pretty lame software feature in my opinion.

There is a fix for this! I was about to jailbreak my phone to cure this issue, but found the answer on another thread.
Go to settings/notification center. Select the app in question and turn the slider for "allow notifications" to ON. Turn off the sliders below for sounds, etc. Now it shows up in the notification center separately (or seemingly not at all) and not on your screen when you switch to the app. Good luck!

PI 7.4 message alert to ECC backend.

Hello Experts,
I am busy with a project for IDOC2JDBC scenario.
In the best case scenario things are working fine, and i get the recors to the external SQL database.
My question is, if there is an error occured in the sql statement or other JDBC error, the communication channel should send an error message to the IDOC sender of the backend ECC.
I am following this tutorial ( http://scn.sap.com/community/pi-and-soa-middleware/blog/2012/03/25/michals-pi-tips-component-based-message-alerting).
How can i specify the backend as the receiver for the alert, or is there another way of doing this task?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In this case, I think that the better way is to create a technical bpmn to send error back to the sender.

Problem in displaying message in screen

I am trying to put a comma between each variable that is getting displayed in screen.
I am displaying a sucess message in my screen as follows.
    DATA:    lv_message type symsgv.
       concatenate var_one ',' var_two ',' var_three ',' var_four ',' var_five ',' var_six ','
            var_seven ',' var_eight ','
            var_nine ',' var_ten into lv_message.
        CALL METHOD lo_message_manager->report_t100_message
          EXPORTING
            msgid = 'zmessage'
            msgno = '1'                                         " This is a message. We are displaying it on screen.
            msgty = 'S'
            view = 'view1'
            p1    = lv_message.
Now what happens is, some of the variables may be blank in database table. for example assume var_three, var_four and var_six are blank.
So the final message in screen is getting displayed as follows:
This is a message. We are displaying it on screen. 1,2,5,7,8,9,10,,,,
How to avoid the commas which are coming at the end.
Please provide your suggestion.

Hi,
Instead of the pattern given you can also get something like this 1,,2,3,,5,,,
So you have to take care of extra commas in between as well,
You can write extra logic if-else statements to first check if the variable is initial or not, if not then only concatenate.

In a word, no.
You can disable the message preview, but not the pop-up entirely.

E65 small message alert font

I recently purchased a nokia e65 phone. Ive noticed the message alert box is so small you dont really know that youve received a message. somehow out of luck while fidding around with it a larger box appeared at the bottom of the screen. unfortunately i somehow managed to lose this setting and it has again gone back to the very small writing in the line above the "no cal entried for today" line, for a new message received. can anyone help me who may have encountered this same problem please. ive gone through the whole manual and there is no help in relation to this. its driving me crazy, given Im so used to it on my previous phone.

The last name first name display for contact in the SMS inbox is completely retarded. If you enter a contact into your contact list with their entire name in the 'first name' field, then the SMS inbox will display a message from that person with first name last name. That's good.
But if you put the contact's first name in the first name field, and their surname in the last name field, the inbox will display them in last name first name order. That's just dumb. And btw this is all with the contact list set to show first name last name.
How can there be no setting to change this? So annoying.

Message Alert window goes blank

HI,
when my client tries to print an email from message alert overview window, they get a blank window screen. This is a very intermittent problem. Also the outbox & sent message tab cannot be opened. The only way out of this is to close SAP and logon again.
I have tried looking in the forum for such error, can't find any ? Can someone help ? Can this be a bug ? they are on 2005A PL36

From what I recall this issue has not being brough up in the Forum before but I remember Patch 36 has some issue which were fixed in later patches.
I would definitely recommend Upgrading if possible.

Text message alert- turn off or modify

In spite of some other comments on this topic, it is not easy to find how to modify the text message alert in the E71 manual. I have been awakened several times by amber alerts during the night. When I tried to find how to turn off the message alert in the manual, I could not find it. I emailed Nokia and the following (modified a little) is what I received:
To turn off or change text message alert tone:
In response to your concern, we would like to inform you that you can change the message alert tone of your device.
Please refer below for the steps:
1. Select Menu
2. Select Tools
3. Select Profiles and to change the message tone
4. Select current profile if not already selected
5. Select Options
5. Select Personalise
6. Select Message alert tone (page to off or vibrate if preferred)
Problem solved! I hope this helps some of you having the same problem.

Text message alert sound

I have a new LG Revere. When I receive a text message, the phone makes some sort of alert vocal sound. I can set the text message alert ring tone, but how do I turn off that alert vocal sound?

This question, and another regarding a "voice" or "vocal" alert, leads me to believe you have Voice commands enabled. I'm not sure where this is on the Menu system for the Revere - explore Menu, Tools, Sounds, Voice Commands, Alerts - see if there is a setting for those to be toggled on or off. You may also look in your user manual for those keywords to see if there is anything there that will lead to a way to turn these off.
** Update - Page 65 of the user manual has info on the Voice Commands and turning the prompts to Readout/Readout + Alerts/Tones only I think you want tones only....

Try this.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.
* Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
* Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
* Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Unplug whatever other devices you also have plugged into USB, and try again. Better not to plug the iPhone into a USB hub.
