Message and iMessage

How do I add my iPhone number into Message so i can use iMessage?

Hi,
At the time of the Original Question and Mende1's answer the info was correct.
Mac OS X 10.8.2 and iOS 6 have changed that.

  • Problem sending text messages and imessages

    Hi,
I have been having some problems with my iphone 5 when sending and receiving text messages and imessages. When i go to send a text or imessage it will take a long time for the message to try to send through, then it comes up with message failure. I have full reception and internet connection and the phone is runing on the lastest ios7.1.2, everything is working in that respect. Sometimes it will freeze my whole inbox and i end up having to turn my phone off and on again to unfreeze it. It has also started taking a long time to receive messages, i will get a message and it will say that it was received 30mins ago when its only just shown up on my phone. I am also having problems deleting messages, as it freezes whenever i try to delete them.
Any suggestions on what to do?

  • Text messages and imessages marked as delivered yet not received since last update. I cannot make sense of the troubleshooting page, why does this complex machine not just work?.

I updated my iphone -again, and now my girlfriend (and who knows who else) is not reliably receiving messages. I try sending as iMessage and as SMS and have iMessage checked in my options and send as text message if iMessage doesn't work also checked. It was working fine, I updated, now it's patchy at best and although messages are marked as delivered they aren't and I don't know unless I phone the recipient up. Have tried restarting, resetting and digging through the trouble shooting pages... Apple products used to just work, now my phone is like a puzzle that I have to solve. I'm ditching apple in October when my contract is up but would like to send texts in the meantime, any ideas?

Awesomez. Thanks apple support community, very helpful indeed. About as helpful as a phone that stops sending texts after the manufacturers update it. No worries though, I got a HTC yesterday, put my sim in and guess what? It works. Close this thread down thanks mods.

  • Can I use messages and iMessage of my iphone as one account?

I am using my apple ID for my messages, and it's separated from my iphone's iMessage,
Is there any way that I can merge the two account so that all chats could be appear together on both devices ?
    THANKS !

If I am putting your post together properly, it sounds like you have two Apple ID's.
At this time, apple does not support "merging" the two Apple ID's. You will simply have to begin using one alone for all your devices.
I see that the Mac Messages Beta supports more than one account, but not more than one account of a particular type, either.

  • Switching between text SMS messages and iMessage

When receiving text messages while on a wifi network my message client responds with iMessages. The recipient us not on a wifi network and does not revive the iMessage replies. Why isn't the iPhone smart enough to respond using the protocol that will guarantee the recipient will most likely get the message?

    DCmuseum,
    Hi,
You have low free memory left on your device.
Do you have a lot of third party applications on your BB weather, icall, bbalerts etc?
I do not know your experience level, so if you know this I'm sorry but please read and let me
    know if this applies.
Most people close the applications by pressing the escape or red key. This does not close the applications.
Each application has a CLOSE option. For instance if you are in the calendar hit the menu key (spotted key) and scroll down to the bottom CLOSE is listed. Go through each application and press close. Go into the browser press menu and options select cache operations clear all categories and hit escape it will say cleaning memory.
Go to options - security - memory cleaning - enable it. The BB will now clean memory when idle for 5 minutes.
you will have an icon on you screen for memory cleaning make sure you press it. Make sure you use the CLOSE button each time you are done with an application.
Read the link below and follow each step that Tanzim outlines,
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=8300&message.id=9225#M9225
If you follow these steps and keep up with your memory your phone will operate smoothly.
Please let us know if you need help with any of the steps.
    Thanks

  • Delete old text messages and iMessages in iOS 5.1?

On my iPhone, I noticed that the "Other" file in iTunes had grown.  I also remember hearing that "Other" was your app data (like Angry Birds high scores), Text messages/iMessages, and so on.  I was wondering if it was possible to delete older Messages (pursay any messages older then a month ago) and not the newer ones.  Please let me know.  Thanks.

Other includes data such as iPhone settings, contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cache/cookies, all email and email attachments, SMS/MMS/iMessages, notes, data created and stored by a 3rd party apps.  You could go through and delete older messages but I doubt that would reduce the size of Other very much.  If Other is getting quite larege (> 2 gigs) then it's possible that it is corrupted.  If this is the case you backing up your phone and restoring it will often fix this.  Follow this guide if you wish to do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.

  • How can i fix imessage when my friends send me too many messages and it wont load

My friends sent me 92 messages on the same group message and iMessage won't load because there are too many messages. Is there any way I can fix it because I tried resetting all settings and it didn't work.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • Messaging and imessgaes not working reliably.

Since upgrading to the iphone 6 and new IOS my messaging and imessages have not worked reliably at all.

What do you mean by "not worked reliably"? And what troubleshooting steps have you taken? SMS is a carrier function. Have you called them to ask about issues with SMSs? Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the apple appears? Have you tried resetting your network settings? Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings? Have you signed out of iMessage and signed back in?

  • How can I disable iMessages from archiving messages and attachments?

I noticed while browsing ~/Library\Messages/ that iMessages has been archiving my messages (Archive folder) and saving attachments (in a separate Attachment folder). Under the settings for iMessages on OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, I don't see any options to disable this. The only thing close to that is already unchecked: Save history when conversations are closed.
Any ideas why iMessages is saving all this information? How do I disable it? My concern is that it's going to keep accumulating data overtime. I don't want to keep having to go back in there and delete those two folders constantly.

    Hi,
This somewhat date back to the way iChat's Saved Chats were once Stored.
At iChat 5 (in Snow Leopard) you could choose to see the last chat - (when opening an new chat with a person you had chatted with before) or parts of the Last Chat in terms of the Last so many IMs.
Example Pic of iChat 5's Prefs
Since then the management choices of the Save Chats has changed in both iChat 6 and Messages.
Messages stores Chats two ways if they are iMessages.
You can elect to Save them in Messages > Preferences > Messages.
It also store the chat.db and other databases items which includes the Attachment items
The chat.db is the bit that fill in the "history" if you iMessage the same person even if you are not saving the Chat in a formal sense in the App's Preferences.
This is irrespective if your delete the Conversation from the Messages main window.
How big these Databases get obviously depends on your iMessages usage.
Striker's link seems to be about a similar issue on an iPhone (I presume it transfers to other iOS devices) but I am not sure that it is relevant in this situation.
    Edit.
I should have been clear that you cannot change the database behaviour.

  • I've been texting my friend with iMessage with wifi on and all of a sudden it changed to text message and won't let me send messages. My wifi is still on and working but it won't switch back to iMessage. Please help

I've been texting my friend with iMessage with wifi on and all of a sudden it changed to text message and won't let me send messages. My wifi is still on and working but it won't switch back to iMessage. Please help

What I recommend you try doing first is to turn iMessage off then back on.  If that doesn't work, make sure that your Apple ID and password are correct.  If everything seems correct and you still can't send out messages using iMessage instead of text message, I think you should either try calling AppleCare at 1-800-MY-IPHONE (1-800-694-7466) and/or scheduling an appointment at the Genius Bar at an Apple Store (that is, if there's one close to you).
    Hope this helps!

  • TS2755 I can't receive messages on my iPhone 4?? It will let me send them just not receive, and this happens on text and iMessage. Help anyone?!

I have a iPhone 4 on contract and every now and then it will stop receiving messages when I am in the middle of a conversation. I don't use iMessage as I sometimes go over the limit of my Internet data. So I stick with SMS. And even when I do try with iMessage I still can't receive messages. I don't know if this is a on fault on the phone but it's a really bad downfall if its common on most iPhones. Don't get me wrong but I love this phone I think it's great but it's annoying when I can't receive messages. And at this moment
In time I still can't receive them. Been happening for 12 hours now and it's never been this long usually, advice anyone?

    Hi Tnolen15,
If you are having issues sending or receiving messages from a specific contact (in this case, your wife), you may find this portion of the following article helpful (ignore the numbering):
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.

  • I am having some trouble with receiving messages from iMessage users when I don't have my iMessage turned on. When I called for support, I spent 30 min waiting and the woman's response to me was "Turn on your iMessage." I prefer not to use it

I have an iPhone 5s and a MacBook Pro. Ever since I updated my computer software to Yosemite, it linked my Apple ID with my phone number and I am not receiving messages from iMessage users on my phone, but rather to my computer. I don't like to use iMessage so I keep it off and would like to receive all messages as SMS texts. I have already tried changing my Apple ID password, logging off of my Apple ID in iMessage on my phone and turning it off, and changing settings on messages on my computer. Nothing is working. Either the messages continue to go to my computer or the messages trying to be sent say they cannot be sent.
After spending 30 + minutes waiting for technical support, the woman helping me (who did not give me her name) told me I should just turn on iMessage. After explaining that I don't like having iMessage on and asking why it worked for at least a year up until this point she said "things change and sometimes we don't know why things do what they do". She asked me about various other things on my phone such as bluetooth and told me to turn on and off airplane mode and the call disconnected. I have not been contacted since, even though she has my phone number.
I am hoping for some help and also hoping people don't get the type of service I received tonight.

I think you can solve your problems by removing your AppleID email address from BOTH the Messages setting on your iPhone and the iMessages settings on your Mac.
    On iPhone:
    Settings > Messages > iMessage > Dissabled
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > touch the "(i)" < touch "Remove This Email"
    On Mac:
    Open "Messages" application
    Click "Messages menu > Preferences
    Click "Accounts"
    Select your AppleID account
Under the "You can be reached for messages at" settings, uncheck your AppleID email address and your phone number
Then uncheck the "Enable this account" setting
And lastly, ask all of your friends with iPhones to delete all iMessage conversations (blue bubbles) in their entirety.
To test, send a friend a new text using their phone number (not their email address) and watch the color of the bubble.  If it's green then you are using SMS.
