Message before posting new thread

How about displaying a message before posting new threads in abap devlopment forums which tells the members to use search button before posting new threads.
I think this may improve the quality of forums to an extent.
Plz give ur comment on this.

I think most people who answer simple questions do so because they are genuinely trying to help and are perhaps not familiar with the type of user IDs who ask such questions.
But they should heed the warnings (in most cases they realize this themselves before a warning is required). I also know a numer of people who stop visiting SDN when they realize this, and that is a big pity.
Users who carry on and on and on without heeding the warnings are deleted as well. This has happened already and there are two more in the pipeline. But Guestification is a last resort and not a perfect one either. It is only really effective when points are the reason for the misuse.
I am sure that without a points system in its current form we would have less noise, but we would only eliminate the childish points gamers.
What I think we need to work on is further improving the reputation of the SDN forums for quality content.
Eg. when someone posts something which is incorrect or questionable, then question it (politely as possible / appropriate).
That way people who answer will realize that their accounts have a track record for questionable quality, and will think twice before posting some bla-bla-bla or not reading the question carefully => if the question is "What is reports and tables" then when thinking twice, they wont answer at all....
Cheers,
Julius
PS: I will start drafting a sticky thread for FAQs and memorable discussions, and then we can make a team effort of contributing to it and the mods can update it as appropriate.

  • Cannot post new thread in Calendar forum

I have a question about Oracle Calendar, and I'm trying to post my question in the Calendar forum. But when I click the "Post New Thread" link, I get an error page that says "Error: you do not have permission to view the requested forum or category."
    What am I doing wrong?
I am signed in as a registered user, not a guest. I originally created this account a few years ago but have not used it in a long time until today.

How did you get to the forum? Are you trying to post to an archived forum? You may need to use a different forum, perhaps someone can tell which forum to ask such a question, or you can get a clue by searching here (as opposed to google searching). This is a huge site, sometimes it takes a bit of work to find the right place. For me, the google search generally works better, but that may not apply to what you are searching for.

  • Force to check all the message before post in MIGO transaction

    Hi Expert,
We have a requirement to display all the message before post this document with clicking the "Check" button. Actually our requirement is very simple, that is system calls "Check" function automatically after click the "Post" button.
In some case, some operators donot want to click "Check", before they click "Post" button. So they will miss some important information.
    Thanks

    Hi Paul,
Thank you replied, I think that will be one only solution after i debuged it.

    Dear SDN team
Currently there are and error when posting NEW thread in the forum :

    The error is a 501 / 505 saying :

In my case, the VM Server was set to use DHCP. Once I reconfigured the interface to use a static address, I was able to successfully create the Server Pool.
Documentation should be reflected to clarify this.

  • Group messaging creating a new thread with no one listed in the To: field

Recently I have had issues with group text where I send a message to an exiting group text thread in the messaging app, and when someone responds from that thread Messages creates a new thread with no apparent sender or anyone listed in the To: field of that message.  Has anyone had or scene this issue?  So far the only solution I have found is to delete both the new thread and the old thread and start the group over again, losing all the group text history from the original thread.

    teshlachris,
iTunes, like other applications, will sometimes have issues trying to install from a different admin user than the one used to first install it.
Did your son install iTunes with a different account? If so, your previous post did not include the fact your son had previously installed iTunes, or I would have suggested trying the install while logged in under his account.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

I was trying to post to

Can anyone give me a advice, how to contact the SDN help team? Best would be a phone number or
    a name.
I have tried the mail adresse, but after a first reply the whole thing ended in the nirvana.
I tried to contact them a couple of weeks ago, the same issue, but I did not press this matter to strongly,
since I am rarely using SDN.

Since this is your second post with the same subject and no one has posted a suggestion or answer, my suggestion is to have your nearest Genius Bar check out the problem. The diagnosis and troubleshooting are a free service.
FWIW, typing ALL CAPS is considered shouting on the internet; it is also difficult to read, so please do not use all caps in your subject lines.

  • Can't post new thread in mobile section

...and unfortunately that's the only reason I signed up for this.

It's quite ridiculous to follow up with a rant on a post 3 years old. The text "insert image" has been gone for a couple of years now -- perhaps it was there in a previous version of the forum software.
Nowadays (2011 AD) we use the "insert image" button:

Has anyone else had this issue? I can post and reply to these same sites on my regular computer and also from my Blackberry World Edition from work but when I try to do it with my Pearl 8130 it won't work. I can type the posts but nothing seems to happen when I hit post.
    Anyone have any solutions?
    Thanks!!

It seems to happen when I go to messageboards - like proboards - in particular.  It's driving me nuts!  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Base rule: BEFORE posting NEW thread in this forum, use "search forum" functionality on the top of this forum.
It has been observed that many threads are created requesting for basic information related to Sales and Distribution topics.

More details found on this site about Classic and Rosetta:
    http://daringfireball.net/2005/06/classicnotsupported
Rosetta is designed to translate currently shipping applications that run on a PowerPC with a G3 processor and that are built for Mac OS X.
Rosetta does not run the following:
Applications built for Mac OS 8 or 9
    Code written specifically for AltiVec
Code that inserts preferences in the System Preferences pane
Applications that require a G4 or G5 processor
Applications that depend on one or more kernel extensions
    Kernel extensions
Bundled Java applications or Java applications with JNI libraries that can’t be translated
    Classic is just not supported.
It is clear that apps that need the G4, G5 or Altivec Code won't run under Rosetta.

  • Search before post

I have seen users posting new threads, which are discussed earlier and solutions is available in the forums. This just increases the volume of posts.
Can we have a functionality where, before posting a new thread, a search is performed in the forums and similar threads are displayed? If the user does not find a relevant match he/she processed and finally posts the thread?
I did search if similar thread exists before posting
    Thanks,
    Somar

    Hi,
even if you did a search and didn't find a similar thread, this topic has already been discussed a few times. So may be others are facing the same problem. Searching... but not getting a helpful response and so post a new thread.
    kind regards
    Siggi

I want to add a new thread to the SAP Auto ID Infrastructure forum.  However, there is no "Post New Thread" link to select.  I am logged in.  The instructions say all you need to do is log in and start posting.  How do I find the Post new thread link?

my first question how you posted here , the way you have to post the question in that forum also.
    path is this
Expert Forums » SAP NetWeaver - Auto ID Infrastructure » SAP Auto ID Infrastructure
i think you already posted question there.

  • Suggestion to improve post messages for new threads

    Hi all,
Is possible to add some 'banner' in the top of the screen of 'Post Message: New Thread' to help and improve new posts? Example:
    Please, take care of:
    1. You must place a descriptive name for the thread. Avoid ambiguous names (like: "Help me") or imperative names (like: "Help me now!!, i'am in a hurry")
    2. You must put enough information to prevent the initial first response is asking for more information
    general:
         - database version
    table issues:
-full description of table (column names, datatypes,...). Scripts of creation for tables.
    performance issues:
         - execution plan.
    data issues:
    - post some example data. Scripts of insertion of some minimal data.
    3. You must put formatted code using 'code' tags, enclosed by '{' and '}'; start tag and end tag are the same, you don't need to put '/' in
    the close tag.
Note: I know there a FAQ Section (very good) but a lot of people don't follow it. Maybe, a solution could be some minimal recomedations on page 'Post Message: New Thread'.
    Regards,

I agree that if the title of a post was done last instead of first, that we would perhaps see an increase in titles that actually make sense. However, I wonder how many would remember to tab (or click) to the Subject window to type in the title and just close the thread because they are done typing their problem. And I somehow doubt it would deter those that put "PLEASE HELP!" and "URGENT-MUST HAVE ANSWER NOW!" from continuing to do so.
And lastly, I don't think Jive allows that much customization of their software. Alas, we must live with those that "don't get it," and simply choose whether we will answer any particular post or not.
It is hard to educate the masses. Sigh.
