  • Messages beta won't send to one of my contacts

Just downloaded Messages beta and it works fine except that it won't send iMessages to one of my contacts. She has an iPhone 4S and can receive iMessages from my iPhone4. Messages has no problem sending to my brother, who also has an iPhone 4S. Suggestions?

    Hi,
Are you sending to her Name or her Apple ID ?
On her phone > Settings > Messages > Received At > Caller ID what does she have set ?
Your Phone is probably doing Phone Number to to Phone number (without even looking at the Apple ID) where as Messages is trying an Apple ID you have for her.

  • Messages beta, does not connect to Internet when trying to use uninstall, but I clearly am on the internet, any ideas?

I downloaded messages beta, and after trying video chat with my wife who was using iChat, I decided to uninstall, and every time I try to uninstall, I get a network problem saying that the messages beta uninstalled can't be downloaded as my computer isn't connected to the Internet, and I clearly am connected thru my wifi, any ideas how to get around this?

    Hi,
Any version of iChat or the Message beta will have issues if you have two connections to the internet.
In fact iChat 4 in Leopard has the worst issues particularly if the computer you are on is Sharing the Internet with other devices  (See System Preferences > Sharing > Internet Sharing)
iChat can just about manage in Text Chats  to connect with other people.
In Video Chats and Audio Only chats and Screen Sharing ichat needs to be in "One Place"
With two IPs issued from a router for Wifi and Ethernet (See the differences in System Preferences > Network for Ethernet and Advanced Button > TCP tab for Wifi) means that iChat looks like it is in two places.
It is worse if you share the Wifi of a neighbour and use Ethernet yourself.
Using Ethernet may get your computer to access the DNS servers from your router more consistently so that Messages can find the place to download iChat 6  (There is evidence that both downloading Messages Beta and registering the Apple ID needs the correct or adequate DNS server info to work properly)
This address for the Message Beta download seems to hard to find for some DNS servers
    http://swdlp.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/SoftwareDownloadApp.woa/wo/XeLd6tIQQ2O yGCki8irQgw/2.5
(This is the accompanying "Thank you for Downloading" page)
The point you make though, that a Ethernet connection may work better, is valid.

  • Messages Beta for Mac - Clears history when closed

I have a big annoyance with the Messages Beta for Mac. When I close the window and re-open it, all the conversations are gone. This makes it hard to reply to a message I got earlier or review recent conversations. On iDevices, if you close it, everything is still there, unless you delete it. This is how I think the Mac version should work, anyone agree?

this mine did this the first time, but not after that.
when I first tested messages beta, I texted a conversation, closed the window, and was surprised to see my conversations were not saved
    however.
now my messages are saving even after shutting down the messages app completely.  I turn on messages and all my chats are back where they were when I shut down.  May just be a bug, but even under preferences it includes an option to choose where to save chat transcripts - so I imagine the final version will have this worked out and all your messages will be saved how you want them

  • Where is the Command-1 in Messages Beta?

I have been using Messages Beta for Mac OSX and could chat with friends using their (and my) Yahoo account. Until recently, there were two windows that I could choose from, Command-0 (Messages) and Command-1 (chat window). But the last option has mysteriously disappeared... When I now want to send a message to a friend with a yahoo account, Messages tells me "The message could not be sent. [email protected] is not available for iMessage." He is online. Also, all options under the menu "Buddies" are greyed out. How do I get the iChat window back, and how can I chat with my friends?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the Points
With the New Message icon used you get a blue icon top right that allows you to access your Contacts (iMessages) or Buddies.
    Uploaded with Skitch!
I show the Contacts List (Address Book) open in this pic.
It will try to see if an Email is an iMessage viable ID  (Apple IDs can be emails from anywhere)
iMessages allows Messages beta to contact (text) Contacts in your Address Book via their iPhone Number or their Apple ID if you know it (And if they are using an iOS 5 device or Messages Beta)
As you can see you can also use the blue icon to list those Buddies On Line (If you are not showing your Buddy Lists).
    Uploaded with Skitch!
This Pic shows the Buddies in one group from one Buddy List with all other Groups closed down (Various groups from 6 Buddy Lists.
You should be able to find your Yahoo Buddy(s) this way if needed.
Using the Window Menu you can elect to Show the Buddy Lists.

  • Two part question 1) what happens if you  sign into messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5 after it expired? does the whole application not work or just imessage? 2) does installing messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5  delete ichat?

    Two part question
    1) what happens if you  sign into messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5 after it expired? does the whole application not work or just imessage? can you stil use AIM, jabbar, google talk, or yahoo?  if you open messages beta does it immediately tell you that messages beta expired?
    2) does installing messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5  delete ichat or just transform ichat into messages beta giving the illusion that ichat is deleted?

    Hi,
It was never completely clear whether it was just hidden or whether Apple ran a download page for iChat 6.
As the Download for Messages Beta was separate and "Deleted" iChat it would seem it would be another download for iChat 6.
iMessages will not function as it is only an Account type within Messages and iChat 6 does not have it.
Therefore messages on the iPhone will not sync to the Mac. (until you get Mountain Lion and Messages in that OS X version).
Mountain Lion and it's full version of Messages will not sync the iMessages that have happened in between the 14th December 2012  (end date of Messages beta) and the Install of Mountain Lion if you decide on that route.

  • Sync old imessages from iPhone with Messages Beta?

Alright I'm using Messages Beta and absolutely love it. Everything works fine and all, but just one thing - is there a possibility to sync OLD messages and conversations from my iPhone to my Messages Beta? Basically I want all threads and messages that I have on my iPhone to appear on my Messages Beta.
    Anyone know?
I'm sure there's gonna be a feature like that in iTunes once Mountain Lion is released... but perhaps someone already knows a trick
    Cheers
    iPhone 4, iOS 5.1

    Hi,
Messages beta and using an Apple ID as the Caller ID on the Phone is what gets the iMessages sent from the phone to be synced.
That is to say, that any Phone Number to Phone Number message sent before cannot be synced to Mesages Beta.
    Nor can current ones.
I must admit to not using my phone enough to know any tricks about forwarding a whole message somewhere else either in Messages on the Phone or via email.
    EDIT !
    Actually find Contact/Message on phone.
Highlight to go to the message or conversation.
    Hit Edit top right
Select those IMs you want to Send somewhere.
    Chose Forward at bottom.
Type in Contact (I used the Apple ID I use in Messages)
The select Messages get sent as one IM to Messages.
(I tested with several IMs from my carrier that only have one side of conversation)

  • Messages Beta, Lion 10.7.3 Firewall issue.

Everytime I reboot or I log in I see a dialog prompt :
"Do you want the application “imagent.app” to accept incoming network connections?"
I believe it's related to the new Messages beta and it is the firewall asking to allow incoming Facetime functionality.  I've allowed imagent to receive incoming connections.   I've deleted and readded the wall and it doesn't make a difference.  Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
I have one Buddy who has his Firewall set to Not Allow IMAgent and Not Allow Messages and get a Messages about allowing iChat.
Strangely, setting things this way seems to stop "Spam" type contacts but allows regular contacts to work.
(I called him and he saw the invite).
However this may need some work as he also had a yesterday chat active in the Messages window.
This may need  the Firewall turning Off and then ON again  (to rewrite the .plist)

  • Messages beta and iPhone...lingering effects?

So everyone I'm sure was aware that messages beta had a bug where all of a sudden randomly my iMessages (but only to the one person I had messages beta set up with) starting saying delivered as soon as the message went through, but then 10 seconds later it switched to not delivered with the red exclamation point. So I did some research and low and behold simply uninstalling did the trick and I have not had any issues.............untillll yesterday. Where the same symptoms came back to my iMessages on my iPhone with that same person. My messages are being delivered but it is royal annoying to have those little red exclamation points next to every message. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Can I be clear ?
On your Phone your iMessages are not being delivered and you have deleted the Messages Beta on your Mac and you are wondering if there is some sort of after effect ?
I see that one other person has indicated a "Me Too" on this question.
I find that when this happens on my phone (pre Messages Beta and since) that it usually means I have lost the network I was using.  (And that happens even if I don't move the phone)
I would not think that it is a Message Beta hangover effect.

  • TS4196 Anyone else having problems with messages beta not detecting facetime hd camera?

I searched the web , but couldn't find anyone else with the problem I am having , I'm using a 2.4 GHz i5 macbook pro , downloaded the beta for messages but lost facetime camera it displays this message (This computer does not support video chats.)  i just can't get it to work properly with messages.
    Thanks in advance.

    HI,
As I intimated Messages can either Invoke FaceTime for Video Chats with those people (Contacts) that you can iMessage.
It can also do the iChat Video.
If your Buddies only have iChat then you have to have a Screen Name if you don't already have one.
I will state this another way as well.
In Messages beta menu > Preferences > Accounts you have at least two "Accounts" once you have entered your Apple ID
One of these is the Bonjour option (Runs a Buddy list like iChat used to - see Window Menu if Logged in)
The other is the iMessage account (your Apple ID)
It is possible that your also have some iChat Accounts from before and these may be listed.
They could be AIM or Jabber Logins (And both those type are effectively sub-divided)
If you do have other Accounts and they have the tick box in "Enable this Account" then they will appear in the Window Menu as a list with Keystroke listed next to them.
These can be used to dispaly the Buddy Lists much like iChat.
By default though they care gathered in to one list (See the Preferences > General Section for Unlinking them)
@mac.com and @me.com ending names from Apple are valid AIM login names (Some people may find an MobileMe issued @me.com account does not work if it has run out).
Facebook and Google Mail IDs are valid Jabber IDs (Providing you enable the "Talk" or "Chat" option in the relevant Account Settings.
If your Buddy logs into AIM with their Valid name then you should use a AIM valid name.
If they use a Jabber valid name then you use a Jabber valid name.

  • Sending iMessages from Messages Beta comes from email only

I have an iPhone so naturally all of my contacts receive iMessages from me via my phone number. Majority of these contacts do not have my email address. While my iPhone is properly syncing with the Messages Beta App on Lion every time I respond to an iMessage it comes from my email address and my contacts ask who this is. Is there a way to fix this? Does Apple plan to address this for the final version?

    Hi,
It is possible to Link various ID s in the iMessages setting on the Phone.
It is probably possible to do this in Messages Beta on the Mac although I saw nowhere obvious.
Check what is ticked form one name/ID in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars.
My son had trouble sending from his Apple ID on his iPhone until he looked at the setting on his phone.  I surmise the reverse is also true.
