Message Board / Forum Software

Can anyone recommend a ColdFusion-based message board / forum package?  It can be either open source or commercial.  So far I'm aware of Galleon and Fusetalk.  Everything else I've come across seems years old and no longer updated.  I'd like to explore all my options before recommending something to my client.

  • How do I create a simple message board (forum)

I am a BC new-bee. How do I create a simple message board (forum) in BC to use on a Muse site since no widget is available there.

    No worries,
The simple way should be that:
open your forum page in Muse
under "object" > "insert HTML" > paste "{module_forum,a,}"
    click ok
move the textbox to the right position
now publish this page to your bc site
if you have any forums set up in the admin of your site (http://yourdomain.com/admin) it should show you the title of the forum.
if there are no forums set up, you will need to create a forum in bc (Modules > Forums)
Try this and let me know how it turned out.

  • Message board Forum question

Does anyone know if there is a way in iweb to create a message board/forum enviroment?
    Imac 800   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

There's no way to do this, other than to link from iWeb pages to some other site where you can. .Mac does not have the capability either, except the limited messaging in .Mac Groups.

  • Quick question on simple message board/forum

Do I need to use the server to create a forum? I'm not ready to publish yet, but want to get one started, where do I begin? Tutorial link would be great...

Do I need to use the server to create a forum?
To host your own, you'll need to install software on your remote server.
If your server supports PHP, you might find what you need below in the Support Section.
    http://www.phpbb.com/
If you don't want to host your own, there are Forum and Message Board Hosting Services you can use.

  • How do I create a message board/forum using forms in Dreamweaver?

I want to create a forum or messageboard using the form in Dreamweaver but I don't know how to do it. Is there any guidance on how I could create a message board or forum on Dreamweaver?

I don't think it can be done with just dreamweaver,
You will have to download something like PHPBB,
If you have a host with fantastico deluxe you can easily set up a forum
    with it.

  • Implementing a message board

Hi, I am trying to create a message board/forum on my static
HTML page. I would like the message board to be nested on the

pages on my website. I would like the message board/forum to look

. I tried to use PHPBB, but that forum occupies the whole page. Is
    there a step-by-step tutorial i can follow? I bought David Power's
PHP book, would that help me?

  • LED message board software

I have no idea how to post this without sounding like a complete fool, so please bear with me.
I have just received a 4 line monochrome (only has red LED's) LED message board, the problem is that the software for editing and displaying text is still in DOS.
Is there software out there I could try out to see if I could get it to work on this LED message board? Editing text in DOS is no fun at all...
The board looks something like the larger ones found on this page:
    http://www.ledauthority.com/Monochrome% … enters.htm

So I take it no one knows of such software for Linux?

  • Add Message Board

    Hi Everyone,
I have a client that I am creating a website for and they
would like to add a message board option to their website. Does
anyone have any suggestions on a good one to use either free or of
minimal cost and easy to setup and use.
    Thanks for any guidance.
    Robert

    Not so free:
    -vBulletin
    www.vbulletin.com / www.vbulletin.org
    ~ $85 one year license
A great and powerful forum software app. It does charge so
depending on the complexity of your site you may or may not want
it. i use it for one of my sites and it works very smoothly and
    havent had any major problems
    Free:
    - phpBB
    www.phpbb.com
This one is totally free and open source. the benefit of this
one is the large community and number of addons you can put into
the forum. installing a mod is a bit more difficult than vBulletin
bit is still a powerful forum engine. I use this on my other sites
and have no real problems with it.
Both of those are fairly powerful forums. vBulletin will give
you better professional support where as phpBB has a much more
massive amount of people working on it because it is open source so
there are more mods for it. Both are relatively easy to install. if
it is going to be a small, non profit website i would go with
phpBB. there are a few other forums out there but these are the 2 i
use as they are basically the most useful and powerful forums
software that i know of and have used. although there are many more
    out there

  • Message Board Tips

The message boards are the heart of the Toshiba Forums.  If you're comfortable using forums in general then feel free to just dive in without reading any further.  If you'd like a bit more of an overview of how to find and create messages then read on.
    Message Board Basics
Message boards are grouped in categories and named for the general topics they're intended to contain.  You can link directly into specific message boards, such as the 'Forum Guidelines & Tips' board that you entered to read this message, from the Forums.Toshiba.com homepage.
Once within a message board, you will see a list of "topics."  A topic is a new message or set of messages on the same subject.  (Experienced users of forum software may use the term "thread."  This is the same as a topic.
When a forum member creates a new message subject, that is the beginning of a new topic. As other forum members reply to that original message, and to each other's replies, the topic grows into a set of related messages which are all part of the same topic.
By default, the topic list of a message board is sorted by date, with the newest topics on top.  To read the messages in a topic, click a Subject.  When viewing the messages in a topic, the first or root message will be on top, with replies listed below by order of when they were posted.  By the way, the forum member who starts a new topic is sometimes referred to as the "OP" (original poster) of that topic.
    Searching
One way to think of the messages in these forums is as a searchable knowledgebase of information about Toshiba computers and consumer electronics. If you have a question, you may want to try searching the forums before asking a question by starting a new topic.  By searching the forums first, you may find what you're looking for without the need to compose a message and wait for a reply.
    Posting New Messages
If you can't find the information that you're looking for, or if you just want to share a tip, go into an appropriate Message Board for your topic and click 'New Message.'  When you create the Subject of your message, try to include key elements of your question or tip. Keep in mind that the subject is all that others will see when deciding if they can help you or if they are interested in reading your thread, so give some thought on how to best summarize your message.  Sometimes it's easier to define the subject after you've finished writing the main body of the message.
Perhaps the single most important bit of information which should be included in any request for help is the products model name/number (e.g. Portege R700-S1321.) For computer products the Part Number should also be reported (e.g. PT311U-01800U.)  Serial numbers are not needed and should not be posted in public messages.
For help identifying model numbers, part numbers, and serial numbers refer to the following image:
The message editor provides rich-text editing features for controlling font and formatting options, but it is generally recommended to just use default fonts and simple paragraph formatting. Overuse of formatting features can make it more difficult to read a message and may result in other forum members skipping over your message rather than reading and responding to it.
    Aim for Simplicity and Clarity
For every message posted in the forums there will be hundreds of other forum members and visitors who will search or browse through the message boards looking for the same information.  So when answering a question on a technical issue, try to explain your answer in straightforward language, avoiding technical jargon whenever possible, even if the question was phrased in a way that suggests a high level of expertise.  Using straightforward language will help to ensure that your message can be understood by everyone who may read it.
    Not only Questions and Answers
By the way, you don't need to ask or answer a question to participate in the forums.  Another way to join in the discussions is to share a tip with others.
If you're new to the Toshiba Forums, what better way to get familiar with the message boards than to introduce yourself to other forum members in the 'Introductions' message board?

  • Message board script

Does anyone know of a good message board script, flat file or php/mysql where I can include the page into my current design.
I have a page called message-board.php where I want to call the script into

Do a Google search:  "free php forum software"
There are a ton of them... Unfortunately they don't lend themselves too well to being integrated into a web site, they tend to want to BE the web site. You may consider creating a sub domain so you can still brand your message board, such as -- http://messageboard.YourWebSite.com - but allow it to take up the space it wants.  This is a common solution to this problem.

  • Windows 8 Release Preview message board

A message board for discussions about the Microsoft Windows 8 Release Preview and Consumer Preview editions is now live.  Please use that board to discuss experiences, offer tips, and ask questions about using Preview editions of the Windows 8 operating system on Toshiba computers.
We have no statements at this time regarding release timing, upgrade availability, or models on which Windows 8 will be supported by Toshiba. But don't let that stop you from sharing your experiences and expertise!
