Message forwarding doesn't work

Hi!
I'm trying to set up message forwarding between iPhone 5S 8.2 and iPad Air 8.2. In iPhone's menu Settings->Messages->Text Message Forwarding I found my iPad, turn on switch, then I fill numbers from iPad screen and press ok, but the switch become disabled again.
On MacBook Air with the same Apple ID forwarding works without problems.

Hi Ukruser,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are trying to set up Continuity for SMS and MMS between your iPhone and iPad, but the feature appears to be turning itself off. To ensure that everything is set up correctly before entering the code, please read over the set up instructions located in the attached article.
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity - Apple Support
To use Continuity for SMS and MMS with your iPhone and your Mac, iPad or iPod touch
Your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch need to use iOS 8.1, and your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.
Sign in to iMessage on your iPhone, your other iOS devices, and your Mac using the same Apple ID.
On your iPhone:
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By, and add a check to both your phone number and email address.
Go to Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and enable the device(s) you would like to forward messages to.
Your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch will display a code. Enter this code on your iPhone to verify the SMS feature.
Best regards,
Joe

  • I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant and my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.

    I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant from my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.  It keeps saying that I only have 2 devices setup, my iPad and my macbook pro.  When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device.  I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer.  Any ideas?

    Thanks, Sig.
    The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
    In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
    If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
    (I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

    I nv delete my message since 2010. So there is alot of messages ( estimate 40K messages) in my phone. however, when i was using iphone 5, it works fine.

  • Moving backward and forward doesn't work as it used to do

    The latest update, 32.0.2, or perhaps the one earlier, 32.0.1, has created a problem with Fx.
    Moving backward and forward doesn't work as it used to do; and if it is done quickly, backward and then forward again to the last page, Fx gets confused and both pages get the same address and the browser shows the same page.
    Guess it has something to do with the latest changes to how Fx handles the cache, or that in combination with how some pages use scripts.
    As it is it can be a pain to use sometimes.

    Are you able to switch songs from control center when Spotify is playing on your phone?
    If you have Spotify playing on your computer then it won't show in control center on your phone. You will have to open up the app to control music on your computer.
    This is because iOS does not show anything on the control center unless an app is outputing audio. The Spotify app is not outputing audio, it only shows what is playing on your computer.
    Does that make sense?

  • New message button doesn't work

    Hi,
    I have rebuild my friends drive with Disk Warrior and now, the Mail software doesn't work well. I cannot create a new message. I tried the "new" button, the "new message" menu in the "File" menu. I even tried to create a new mail by using a link on a web site via Safari. I erased the com.apple.mail preference and the Mail folder in my library. I tried with a new account. Nothing works. The system is a G5 with Tiger 10.4.8.
    I think the problem is the framework.
    Does anyone have an idea to fix this? Can I reinstall over it? How? With the original disk (10.4.6)?
    Thanx in advance!

    Hi BlaKCroW.
    What does “I tried with a new account” mean? Are you talking about a user account or about a mail account, i.e. have you checked whether the problem is system-wide? Try this:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. Try to reproduce the problem and look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result. They may provide some clues.
    In the meanwhile, take a look at the following article, in case this is a font issue:
    Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther

  • Have Yosemite AND IOS 8.1 but SMS forward doesn't work!

    I have the latest versions of Yosemite and IOS 8.1 both devices are logged into icloud and message forwarding says that it is enabled - everything is set up as it should be and yet when I try to send an SMS message from my mac it tells me the number is not registered with imessage - what is going wrong please and how do I fix it?

    Hi,
    Sending SMS from my iMac is something I have yet to test.
    Nothing has been added to the menus to suggest starting an SMS messages as opposed to an iMessage.
    There again the menu items that used to be a Drop down as part of "New Message" is also lacking on directing it to the iMessages account or any other account you might have.

  • X forwarding doesn't work

    I would like to get x forwarding to work so I can play kolf at school, at the "far away machine" I have X11Forwarding yes in ssshd_config and the same on my local linux machine, no matter what I try I always get
    xterm Xt error: Can't open display:
    xterm: DISPLAY is not set
    no matter what program I use it's always the same thing, X11 is installed and functional on both ends, it's the new standard version 7. both machines are on a clean install too.
    any ideals?

    1) The xhost solution posted above is rubbish. Not only is it unsecure, but it is also wrong in this context and wrong in 2 other ways that I do not want to describe now.
    2) If you want to forward X with ssh, there is not much to do, and I think you did it right:
    a) Enable X11Forwarding yes in sshd_config on the server side (don't forget to restart sshd)
    b) Start your ssh session with ssh -X $hostname. This enabled X forwarding for this one session. If it doesn't, you get an error message that tells you why. If $DISPLAY is not set and ther e is no error, then you either forgot -X (or -Y) or your $DISPLAY gets unset again after the login.

  • "Home Directory Full" message "fix doesn't work for me

    Often (no, not always, it's not consistent), I get the dreaded "Home Directory full" message when I launch mail. Mail then quits when I click OK. Normally, if I launch it again right away, it works.
    I tried to use the standard fix (e.g., removing the "Envelope Index" file to the desktop and launching Mail). This did cause a dialog to pup up informing me that I needed to re-index my mail file. I did that, and the process stopped with the progress indicator about two thirds through. I quit Mail and replaced the Mail folder in Library with the backup I had made before getting started.
    Next, I tried the Hoover method (running the vacuum command from the Terminal. My machine grinded away for some time. I don't know how far it got (there is no progress indicator nor any other feedback of any kind), but since nothing happened for a good half hour (with no more disk activity for a long time), I quit that process, too. Get info revealed that the "Envelope Index" file had not been modified at all by this. Again, just to be on the safe side, I replaced the Mail file again with the backup copy.
    Because the re-indexing in my first attempt had stopped while processing my sent items folder, I suspected that this one was the culprit. I therefore attempted to rebuild it (via the menu command in Mail). Much to my surprise, the process actually finished without an error message. However, my sent items folder now contained some 5,200 emails as opposed to the 7,00 or so it should have.
    Then I saved my Mail preferences file to the desktop, made a backup copy of my Mail backup file, and launched Mail. This made the application believe that it was being launched for the first time. I used the Import command and imported only the contents of the Sent Items mailbox, specifying "Other" as the type. This imported 5,225 items; at that point, the progress indicator was showed a fully completed process, even though the "messages" folder contained 7,900 items. Checking things, I found that there was a discrepancy of 9 items (i.e., the last item that showed as having been imported was not the 5,225th item in the "messages" folder, but rather the 5,216th). I thus moved the first 5,216 items from the messages folder into a different folder and tried to import the rest. Much to my surprise, Mail imported the same 5,216 items all over again. This is when I noticed that it does not import from the "messages" folder but rather from the file called "mbox".
    And this is where things stand. I still get the "Home Directory Full" message about once out of two launches of Mail (but never once Mail is up and running). I desperately need to get this fixed as I fear I'm on the brink of a disaster with my mail file.
    One more clue: I cannot be 100% sure, but it seems to me that the problem began when I added a second dot mac email account to my Mail setup (we have a family pack; I always managed the main account and have more recently added one of the sub-accounts to my configuration). I also noticed that sometimes, this second dot Mac account shows up in my list of mailboxes on the left side of the screen, and sometimes it doesn't. Both these accounts are configured to be checked automatically. In addition to these IMAP accounts, I have a half dozen POP3 accounts and some 40 or 50 local mailboxes configured.
    Does anyone know of a utility I can use to rebuild my entire email file instead of just the index? Or does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can manually fix things? I did do the usual stuff already (using disk utility to check the disk, fixing permissions, and so on) without detecting any problems.
    Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.
    Daniel

    You’re welcome.
    When I removed the preference file (com.apple.mail.plist), I also removed
    the folder "Mail" so as to start from scratch completely.
    Well, that’s not what you said in your first post...
    I only use "Other" because I read in one of Apple's notes that one should
    try "Other" in the event that the OS X Mail import failed (which it did).
    This is wrong in the case of Mail 2.x. That has to be an old article. Could you please be more specific as to where exactly did you find it?
    there is a way to actually export the contents of a mailbox as individual
    items that can then be reimported.
    Selected messages can be exported in standard mbox format by doing File > Save As in Mail and choosing Raw Message Source from the Format popup menu. Standard mbox files can be imported into most mail clients. In particular, they can be imported back into Mail doing File > Import Mailboxes and choosing Other as the data format. Using this format, however, would cause some status flags to be lost (e.g. whether a message has been replied to).
    Locally stored mailboxes can be copied to the Desktop or anywhere else by just dragging them there from Mail itself (for server-stored IMAP mailboxes, copy the messages to locally stored “On My Mac” mailboxes in Mail first). These, however, are .mbox folders (not standard mbox files), where messages are stored in individual .emlx files that other mail clients don’t know or care about. They can be imported back into Mail doing File > Import Mailboxes and choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format.
    It also explains why the import only brought in 5,200 items instead of the 7,900.
    The question is: where are the others?
    In the Messages folder.
    as I mentioned above, I used disk utility to check the disk and fix permissions, so I did
    not just do the permissions stuff. In my experience, if checking the disk gives you an
    OK result, then there is no point in booting from another disk to perform a repair disk.
    Right. I missed that part of your first post. Sorry.
    if the mbox files are no longer needed, can they be removed?
    Yes. The only items within a mailbox (i.e. within an .mbox or an .imapmbox folder) used by Mail 2.x are Info.plist and the Messages folder. Any other files you may see there are almost certainly Mail 1.x files that Mail 2.x leaves there after the conversion. This is poorly explained in Mac OS X 10.4 Mail: Some mailbox files used by Mac OS X 10.3 are not deleted after importing. The article only talks about mailboxes in ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/, but the same can also be said about mailboxes in “POP-”, “IMAP-”, or “Mac-” account folders.
    As long as you keep a backup copy of the old files for a while (at least, until you’re sure everything was converted properly), they can safely be removed from the Mail folder. OnyX has a Cleaning > Misc > Temporary and obsolete items option for getting rid of all those files.
    Note that if you see strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders, these aren’t old files from previous versions of Mail, but rather an indication that there is something amiss. More specifically, these are temporary folders created by Mail 2.x during an import or a reindexing process (e.g. rebuilding a mailbox) that Mail should have deleted when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected.
    <hr>
    Here’s the procedure I usually suggest to set up Mail again from scratch:
    1. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
    2. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/. Move (not copy) the entire Mail folder out of there, to the Desktop.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop.
    5. Open Mail and set it up again from scratch. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and check that everything works fine.
    6. You’ll have to re-configure all your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    7. If Mail works fine now and you had any messages stored in local mailboxes, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Mail for Mac OS X as the data format, and follow the instructions to import your mail from the old Mail folder that’s now on the Desktop. Import the Mailboxes folder first, then each of the POP-username@mailserver account folders, if any.
    8. If .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
    As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
    If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
    Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • The "Show To/Cc label in message list" doesn't work

    Hi all,
    I use Apple Mail 5.2, and i have created some mailboxes which i use to archive the emails i sent and receive. I have noticed that when i move emails i have sent to these mailboxes, in the message list i only see the Sender (who is me of course) and not the recipient (in the default Sent folder everything works OK). You realize that this creates a huge problem because if i want to find an email i sent to someone, i have to click each email and see the recipient from the preview column.
    I thought that it was the setting "Show To/Cc label in message list" but even with this marked, it still doesn;t show anything... The only thing that is changed is that in some emails it shows a little greyed "TO" but next to that, there is only the email Subject, and not the recipient (as expected).
    Is this a bug?
    Of course this problem doesn't exist in Classic layout because there you have all availiable columns, but i really like the default view and i want to keep that..

    #{userlist.userList()
    #{ul.edituser}Spot the difference there. I do believe "ul" should be "userlist"; in other words it will link to an action method "edituser()" in a JSF managed bean which I assume will be named Userlist. Its really simple when you run into the problem of an action method not working: 99/100 times the action method EL declaration is wrong. Now it could be typo, but I've been known to forget the #{} part too...
    I use the JBoss Tools Eclipse plugin myself; it has nice JSF additions that add EL validation and autocompletion to the editor. That way I know already from the code view when I've made a mistake in stead of "at runtime". A missing action method turns up as a warning in the jsf editor for example. That is of course only helpful when you're actually using Eclipse ;)

  • Continue the chain of filters after forward doesn't work

    Hi,
    I'm dealing with a problem since two days ago and I guess it's time to ask for some help =).
    I'm trying to do a forward and just after that let the filters continue, maybe I have a missunderstanding of the servlet/jsp life cicle, but don't really know.
    Let's say I have two filters
    A) URLTranslatorFilter. This filter take the URL requested and forward it to the correct URL, so, the user can enter the URL in another language (creepy requirement I know =( ) and being redirected to the actual resource.
    http://localhost:8080/test01/entrar.faces
    would be translated to
    http://localhost:8080/test01/login.faces
    B) SessionFilter, it's a simple filter that check for the user being on a session, security control, simple as that.
    When a URL It's translated, just after that I have to check the username and all that kind of things, but i get the terrible error:
    javax.servlet.ServletException: Cannot forward after response has been committed
    the filterChain.doFilter isn't working I think.
    In fact, there's more than just a filter after the URLTranslatorFilter, but I can't get it to work even with two of them.
    The source for the URLTranslatorFilter:
    package mx.www.filter;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.servlet.Filter;
    import javax.servlet.FilterChain;
    import javax.servlet.FilterConfig;
    import javax.servlet.RequestDispatcher;
    import javax.servlet.ServletException;
    import javax.servlet.ServletRequest;
    import javax.servlet.ServletResponse;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
    public class URLTranslatorFilter implements Filter {
         public void init(FilterConfig arg0) throws ServletException {
         public void doFilter(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response,
                   FilterChain chain) throws IOException, ServletException {
              System.out.println("URLTranslatorFilter-->");
              if (!(request instanceof HttpServletRequest)) return;
              HttpServletRequest httpServletRequest = (HttpServletRequest) request;
              String currentURI = httpServletRequest.getRequestURI();
              System.out.println("URI-->" + currentURI);
              if (currentURI.equals("/test01/entrar.faces")) {
                   RequestDispatcher requestDispatcher = request.getRequestDispatcher("/test01/login.faces");
                   requestDispatcher.forward(request, response);
              chain.doFilter(request, response);
              System.out.println("<--URLTranslatorFilter");
         public void destroy() {
    }The simple dummy SessionFilter:
    package mx.nic.rty.www.filter;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.servlet.Filter;
    import javax.servlet.FilterChain;
    import javax.servlet.FilterConfig;
    import javax.servlet.ServletException;
    import javax.servlet.ServletRequest;
    import javax.servlet.ServletResponse;
    public class SessionFilter implements Filter{
         public void init(FilterConfig arg0) throws ServletException {
         public void doFilter(ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response,
                   FilterChain chain) throws IOException, ServletException {
              System.out.println("SessionFilter-->");
              chain.doFilter(request, response);
              System.out.println("<--SessionFilter");
         public void destroy() {
    }The filters defined in web.xml
         <filter>
              <filter-name>URL Translator Filter</filter-name>
              <filter-class>mx.nic.rty.www.filter.URLTranslatorFilter</filter-class>
         </filter>
         <filter-mapping>
              <filter-name>URL Translator Filter</filter-name>
              <url-pattern>*.faces</url-pattern>
         </filter-mapping>
         <filter>
              <filter-name>Session Filter</filter-name>
              <filter-class>mx.nic.rty.www.filter.SessionFilter</filter-class>
         </filter>
         <filter-mapping>
              <filter-name>Session Filter</filter-name>
              <url-pattern>*.faces</url-pattern>
         </filter-mapping>The sample pages do nothing really just show a simple message, any help you could give me would be appreciated.
    I can post more code if necessary =) thanks!
    -JF-

    Maybe try it like this:
    if (currentURI.equals("/test01/entrar.faces")) {
      RequestDispatcher requestDispatcher = request.getRequestDispatcher("/test01/login.faces");
      requestDispatcher.forward(request, response);
    else{
      chain.doFilter(request, response);
    }Forwarding control to a request dispatcher is sending a response
    calling chain.doFilter() is also sending a response.
    You can only send one response per request, so if you forward control to another resource, you should stop the current resource sending a response.

  • Sending Rich Text Emails - Default Message font doesn't work!

    I have just set up Mail to compose Rich Text emails as default which seems to have worked okay. However, I have set the default Message font as 'Arial' and it doesn't seem to work when sent to Microsoft Outlook. However if I set the text to a different font and then back to arial when composing it works fine.
    I just looked at the raw source of the email and it doesn't actually state in the HTML that the font is set to Arial by default, only when it is manually changes when composing. It may display correctly in Mail but with more users on a windows based machine using outlook this is no good! I don't want to have to change the font manually every time!
    Anyone got a fix for this?

    Are there no fixes for this?
    In my eyes this is a major problem and certainly something that is making me consider moving away from Mail...

  • ICloud : automatic mail forward doesn't work

    Hi,
    I've setup an automatic mail forwarding through icloud.com mail application, in preferences.
    At first, it worked.
    A few days later it doesn't.
    I've tryed to disable, enable, re-type the destination email address (gmail), nothing works : mails won't be forwarded, but they get deleted (I checked the option, this one works).
    I've contacted Apple Support Express Lane, who reset my preferences on the server (it changed nothing to the preferences I see) : there is no result on this one either.
    When I forward an email manually to the same gmail address : it works.
    Any of you having the same issue ?

    Update. It appears that auto forwarding works except for emails sent from a gmail account associated with the "forward to" address. If I send from my comcast account it works, but if I send from my gmail account, using the gmail or comcast address, it doesn't. On the plus side, mail sent from other gmail accounts apeears to work.  So other than for testing purposes, this may not be a big deal.

  • [SOLVED] [LVM over LUKS] TRIM forwarding doesn't work

    Recently I encrypted my SSD using LUKS and created three LVM volumes on top of it. Then I added "allow-discards" to the list of kernel parameters, here is the respective entry from grub.cfg:
    linux /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/mapper/vgarch-root ro cryptdevice=/dev/sda2:vgarch:allow-discards cryptkey=/dev/disk/by-uuid/02F2-CDB8:vfat:/lukskey quiet logo.nologo loglevel=3 console=tty1 splash=silent,theme:arch-elegant elevator=noop transparent_hugepage=never radeon.modeset=1
    And an excerpt from fstab:
    /dev/mapper/vgarch-root / ext4 defaults,auto,noatime,discard 0 1
    UUID=e8ba294e-9621-422d-8f40-d9ffbc715484 /boot ext2 defaults 0 2
    /dev/mapper/vgarch-var /var ext4 defaults,auto,noatime,discard 0 2
    /dev/mapper/vgarch-home /home ext4 defaults,auto,noatime,discard 0 2
    When the system is booting up, "encrypt" hook prints the appropriate message ("Enabling TRIM/discard support."), so everything seems to work fine. But when I check for TRIM support using the following method, the last command doesn't print zeroes as expected.

    Is it possible at all to enable TRIM support in this case? And if yes, what did I miss?

    Good, my guess then would be that your trim is working already and you should be able to invoke it also with fstrim manually to get a positive confirmation in bash.
    The reason you don't see the zeros in your check should be that the hdparm reports back the wrong starting sector of the file due to offsets. See here for a thorough explanation by the developer and here another summary.

  • X11 forwarding doesn't work

    Hi
    I bought a Macbook Pro a few weeks ago with SL preinstalled and I need to access a SSH server with X11 forwarding but I can't get it to work. Whenever I run "ssh username@host -X" it allows me to enter the password but then it just hangs.
    Any ideas what might be wrong?

    Sorry, was a bit short earlier. Was in a bit of a hurry but wanted you and anyone else to know that it didn't work. I'm not a complete beginner with unix although troubleshooting X11 on my own is kinda daunting, thereby the lack of details .
    I wasn't saying anything about you. I was just ranting about 10.6. And to make things even more embarrassing, I was completely wrong! I didn't check my facts enough and was all too ready to blame 10.6.
    What kind of machine are you connecting to? On MacOS X, X11 forwarding is turned off on the server side by default. You have to turn it on manually: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/qa/qa2004/qa1383.html
    I did this and I could ssh -X from my 10.6.1 machine into my production 10.5.8 machine. I hadn't bothered to check logging into my Linux server or I would have had a better answer to begin with.
    It sounds like your problem has nothing to do with my little rant. Try running "ssh -X -v -v username@host" to see if there are any descriptive error messages.
