Message Inbox: Long time to receive messages

Hi All,
My client is on 8.8 PL15. They complain that it takes a very long time to receive Approvals in th Messages/Alert Overview window, although the Update Messages in General Settings > Services is set to be 1 minute. They complain that they need to log out and back in again in order to receive messages, before they can approve.
Does somebody maybe know what could cause the delay?
Kind regards
Carin

Hi All,
The users cleaned up the Inbox and Outbox Messages, but the Approval Messages are still coming through slowly!
1. Some Authorisers do not even get the messages, while others do, even after they logged off and on again.
2. Also follow the following scenario: The user is logged on on a laptop and on a terminal. On the Terminal, the approvals almost come through instantly, but on the laptop, it takes forever. If you log off and back on again it then comes through.
Can anybody help?
Regards
Carin

    SOLUTION
Open "terminal" on your mac and type the following:
    defaults write com.apple.mail IgnoreSortOrderWhenSelectingAfterDelete 1
(copy and past the whole line)
This will stop that behaviour in mail.
It works on most opperating systems.
    mine is.

    iMessages or MMS?
MMS and SMS are exchanged over a carrier's cellular network only. Contact your carrier regarding a problem with MMS/SMS.

I am confused about messaging. Shouldn't I be able to send and receive messages with cellular data off and without wifi? I can send the message but often do not receive messages from others, iPhone or other, until  I turn on cellular or wifi.

Depends on the type of Message.
SMS messages will send and receive with data off.  and while you can guarantee you send using SMS you cannot guarantee that whoever replies to you does also. They may be replying thorugh iMessage if they are using iPhones.
However Android should be sending through SMS.
You can turn off iMessage if you want to, though people with limtied SMS text messaging in their plans may not appreciate it, and stop messaging you.

Yes, I already talked about this to my carrier. Do you think it doesn't have any problem with the phone?

  • Mail sometimes takes a very, very long time to open messages

This is similar to some other messages I've seen here, but I perhaps have some new observations.
Often, but not always, Mail takes up to 120 seconds to open each message in my Inbox. This happens with messages that have already been downloaded from the server, and even with messages that have already been read previously. While opening a message, Mail is otherwise unresponsive and spinning the ol' beachball cursor.
When this happens, the system.log on the Console displays these lines. Mail is process 4502 in this example.
    Jan 19 08:20:23: --- last message repeated 1 time ---
Jan 19 08:20:23 Juliette /usr/sbin/spindump[4552]: process 4502 is being monitored
    Jan 19 08:20:28 Juliette kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Jan 19 08:20:28 Juliette kernel[0]:
    Jan 19 08:20:37: --- last message repeated 1 time ---
    Jan 19 08:20:37 Juliette kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Jan 19 08:20:37 Juliette kernel[0]:
The last three lines are then repeated every 10 seconds until the message is finally displayed at which time spindump reports that it spindump is no longer monitoring process 4502 (or whatever number Mail happens to be). The time required to sort itself out is variable, from 30 to 120 seconds.
I ran Verify on my disk and there were no errors of any kind. I have also checked and corrected permissions on the disk a couple of times.
If I run Mail>Mailbox>Rebuild the problem is cleared up (for a while), but eventually returns. The problem is cleared up only on the Inbox on which I ran Rebuild. There may be a global rebuild somewhere, but I haven't found it.
I have also noticed that after running Rebuild when the problem is occurring, a mailbox will contain one more unopened message than it did before Rebuild-ing, i.e. If there were no unopened messages, there will now be 1, or if there were 6 unopened messages, there will now be 7. And the new unopened message is at some seemingly random place in the message list. I can't say that this happens every time, but I have not seen it not happen.
I'm not really qualified to make a diagnosis of this, but, nevertheless, I will venture a guess that my local mail database is somehow getting corrupted, or possibly is permanently corrupted, in some minor way. Assuming that might be true, is there a way to rebuild my entire mail database? It's fairly large, about 600 Mbytes.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Update: I found out how to re-index my mail database (in the Mail Help, duh) and this may have fixed the problem. At least I haven't seen it since. I'll post a final report at the end of the day.

  • Mail takes a long time to send messages

After a power outage in my neighborhood and being given new incoming and outgoing mail servers by my ISP -- AT&T and it's Yahoo portal -- Mail is taking a long time to actually send messages after clicking the send button -- a minute or two. Thunderbird sends them immediately.
I've grown fond of Mail. Anybody have any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how I can fix it?
    Thanks,

I had this problem and just got it fixed so thought I'd post up. I have a gmail account and the problem started 3 or 4 days ago.(no recent system changes or anything I can think of that coincided with the problem) An additional symptom is that Mail wasn't showing me new messages anymore either. I could go onto the web server for gmail and there was new emails waiting but even clicking on "Get Mail" wouldn't bring them into Mail.
I found in the Window tab a choice for Activity and one for Connection Doctor. I brought up Activity first and saw 5 items and nothing seemed to be changing on any of them. Got Connection Doctor up and it connected and said everything was fine (you can bring up details to see what ports and such it uses which confirmed that things were going ok) I went back to activity and hit the "stop sign" for all of the activity that was going on with the plan to just stop everything to try sending a new message. I started from the top and about half way through I heard the Zoom of a message going out (Mail had been working on sending the message for the last few minutes) and suddenly new activities were popping up in the list and processing quickly.
I tried a few test messages and everything is working like normal again. I'm guessing something got stuck and that is causing the slow messages at least in my case. Check it out!
I'm on a iMac with Snow Leopard.

  • IPhone 4S (Sprint) takes a really long time to send messages

    Hello all,
I have a 16GB iPhone 4S that I purchased on launch day, and lately it's been giving me problems, mostly having to do with text messaging. If I send a message, it sometimes goes through instantly, or it sometimes will take upwards of 5 minutes to send. Sometimes it refuses to send until I unlock the phone (if I've locked it while the message is sending). These problems seem to be intermittent, and iMessage seems to be unaffected (all my iMessages go through instantly).
I'm running 5.0.1, and I've done everything I can think of (deleting all messages, resetting network settings, restoring). I don't think it's a network problem, because some 4S-toting friends who are on the same network aren't having problems either.

Window menu -> Activity menuitem will give you all the background processes of Mail, and should give you an idea what is hanging its processes.
Mail can especially get tied up if Spotlight or Time Machine are trying to redo their indices.

  • Can no longer send or receive messages on Mac from non-Apple product users

After installing Yosemite, I was able to send and receive messages to contacts who use Android devices, but that stopped a week ago.  Anyone else having this problem?

    Hi,
It should appear on the Mac.
If the Messages app is not open it should in fact launch it.
I had this issue once and had to reset the Text Forwarding thing twice before I got the Pop with the Code on the Mac.
Don't dismiss what is on the iPhone until you either have the Code or it is obvious that it is not going to appear. (you need to enter the code number back on the iPhone).

  • Has anyone had a problem with Verizon messages having wrong times for incoming  messages on their tablet?

I have had a problem where the incomming messages I am getting are at a different time then sent. The person is in the same time zone as me.

Let's get to the bottom of these messaging issue dnp15! When did the wrong timing start? Is time correct when you receive messages on your phone instead of your tablet? Is timing correct if you check messages on a computer instead of the tablet? What's the tablet model?

  • Can't access messaging inbox whatsoever after suspicious text message I didn't even open.

My phone just turned on randomly sitting on the table without using it whatsoever and froze at the main menu. I proceeded to restart it, but when I unlocked it, I saw the 'Messaging' icon had a new text message notification, so I tried opening it. It just takes me to a blank screen and I can't see anything in my inbox, not even the 'Compose' button in the upper right hand corner. Tried resetting it, nothing. So I went to my Camera Roll and tried messaging a picture to myself. That worked, and when I opened my inbox I saw a suspicious text message from some random number saying how I could buy Microsoft Office for $10 or something, I didn't get a very long read in since after a few seconds my inbox crashed, and now I'm back to the main menu where I started. Still can't open the inbox and am getting a little frustrated. Any ideas?

Brittney the supervisor said I was the first to report this issue and said they don't respond to questions here but only to calls to  Apple.  (800) MY-IPHONE (800-694-7466)
She said they won't do anything unless people start calling and suggested a factory reboot as a solution, which is not solving the real issue.    This is a huge deal and Apple needs to be aware before the news starts reporting iPhones are getting hacked where they are unusable.
So please call ASAP!  Our phones still don't work.  We need to flood Apple with calls so they can fix it!
And on another note, they can't afford to hire an apple tech to respond to messages here???

  • Long time waiting , delivery message by jdbc receiver adapter

    this is a test case.
There are two large messages for two outbound interfaces, both about 50 000 lines txt files.
    Both receiver is database.
There is a queue about 10 minute to wait.
Is it OK? How can I supposed to do?
Does it makes any difference if I use different communication channel?
Edited by: Shen Peng on Jun 9, 2009 10:20 AM

    Hi,
In the insert structure of your JDBC the statement name node should be 0... unbounded.
Map your source structure row node ( which occurs 50,000 times for 50,000 records ) to statementname node. Check SAP help link for more details
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/14/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm
As a result of this your interface will be triggered only once and it will fire 50,000 insert querys at back end.
This will improve your performance considerably instead of firing interface 50,000 times.
    Hope this helps.

  • Application Builder takes long time and Popup messages during Build

    Hi All,
My application is slightly bigger with over 300 VI's. In between the build process I receive pop up messages asking GMath library  files etc.. are modifies would u like to save the files..? When clicked on OK button it starts saving these library files and when it saves almost half the number of files the application builder crashes and causes LabView to close. As the build process is taking more than 2 hours and end result is always an unsuccesful build due to the application builder crash I am loosing my time.

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from LV 7.1 to 2009, both the Professional versions. My program consists of several hundred vi's. Building an .exe in LV 7.1 was a snap and took maybe 30-50 seconds (not including an installer). Building the same thing in LV 2009 (build script converted to project) takes nearly 30 minutes, not including creating an installer... most of the time is spent 'processing' and then saving vi's, which LV 7 did not appear to do. I've tried the Ctrl+Shift+Run suggested by JB but this does not help. I've also applied the 2009f patch. It still takes a fair amount of memory, 0.5 GB, but my core 2 duo PC has 2 GB and there is plenty available RAM. Any suggestions/details on the differences and something I could do to cut down on the build time?
    thanks,
    Dan

  • Apple Mail takes a very long time to send messages.

A few weeks ago, Apple Mail started to act up.
Even small email messages without images now take 30 seconds to send.
They sit forever in the outbox.
What can be the reason of this?

Window menu -> Activity menuitem will give you all the background processes of Mail, and should give you an idea what is hanging its processes.
