Message on C8180 "Cannot Print" Unable to remove and print with black only

I have the same problem and I see that others do too - although no one is stepping up with a solution.
I try to setup the print job to print B/W only and it still won't accept. The printer is LOCKED on this error - albeit no error code just this msg - "CANNOT PRINT: there is not enough ink to ensure printer health"
"Printer Health" ??? WTH?
The B/W ink is completely FULL. I should be able to print in B/W only, but NO. I cannot get the printer out of this mode. The only apparent solution is to spend more money buying an Epson printer.

I recently changed my black ink cartridge and now every time I hit print a window appears saying the cartridge is empty and to replace it.  I have to hit "continue" in order to get the printer to print.  How do make this window go away?  Donna

Hi - You'll have to contact HP Support for assistance with resetting your printer for a different region.  This partricular reset should be covered under warranty.  Here is the contact information for South Africa.  They'll be able to reset the printer so it will accept the cartridges from South Africa.
    Hope that helps.

Printer will not fully power up. Really hate the idea of having to go and buy yet another printer!! Really sad in this throw away world..so much for recycle -reduce and keeping stuff...I have spent hours in cleaing this printer, making sure all is ok on board, etc...still nothing works.  Any help would be great, but so far only thing anyone says is throw out HP printers and go to another brand like Cannon or Epson.  sheeesh!! I was a |BIG fan of HP! Also tried to reinstall, add on HP fixes...just kept running error messages around and around and around again....anyway, would love to fix this, but so far looks hopeless.

  • C8180 starts and stops on it's own.....

My 3yr old, but seldom used, C8180 All-in-One color printer is acting weird and won't stay operating.
I've  always shut it down when not in use, but yesterday I went to my home office to boot up my desktop pc and noticed my HP printer was trying to startup all on it's own, then it shut down after just a few seconds on it's own without me touching it.  When it tries to start up, the little display screen comes on and the task bar at the bottom of the display is scolling across like it's trying to start up. But before it can start up, it shuts down on it's own.....then the whole process starts over again in about 20 secs or so.
I've disconnected the power cord to be sure it's reset, but that seems to have no bearing on the start/stop thing going on.  So, now I've unpluged it until I can find some answers here.
Is there another way to "reset" the whole printer other than just the power reset?  I've been researching all the HP support pages on their website, but my issues is not addressed.....that I can find anyway.
    Please help!!!!!!!

Hello Fixvet. I will send you a private message on how to perform a more powerful reset. Please check your inbox.

A week or so ago, Windows 8 decided to do an automatic update to 8.1.  It said I had to reinstall HP C8180 Software.  Today  I tried to update and I get a message:  Operating system not supported, intelation cannot continue.  Says my current OS: 602.64
Also about a week ago I downloaded this and it did not work:

    Hello @Corinneann,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see Windows did an automatic update to Windows 8.1 and now you are not able to install the software and drivers for your HP Photosmart C8180. You get an error 'Operating system not supported, installation cannot continue'. I would like you to follow the steps listed below:
    1. Unplug the USB if using a direct connection.
    2. Remove the HP C8180 software from your computers Control Panel's Uninstall a program option.
    3. Restart the computer.
    4. Make sure all the PS C8180 software is gone from the programs list as well as your HP folder listed under the All programs in your Start Menu.
    5. Now go ahead and download the software and drivers for your PS C8180 (DO NOT plug in USB until the software prompts you to):
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-110040-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
    6. Go ahead and print a test page.
    7. If you are unable to print a test page, please run the HP Print and Scan Doctor- It was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers.
Please let me know if this was successful! I will watch for your reply.

  • Photosmart C8180 stopped working and refuses any re-installation attempts on XP Desktop

Hello, I am new to the forum and am in need of some installation help.
I had graphics card failure (twice), and the last time the computer got turned on it was without the printers USB being plugged into it and this seems to be when the printers Software Solution Center stopped working.  I could print in a mundane mannor but needed the solution center for my high end digital printing jobs.
So, I uninstalled and tried to re-install the software. Each attempt has given me a failed installation. I have been at this for days.  I got a fatal error but didn't see an actual code for it.  I allowed it to scan for problems and it told me "A solution has been found for this particular problem" but following each of those steps did not solve anything. The downloaded software from the site gave me the same results.
What happens is the software installation goes to approx 97% (although the last attempt said 100% and still failed) and then it hangs and says it took too long to respond. This part I failed to pay proper attention to, I believe. Sorry for the lack of better info here, but the software kept telling me "No HP devices have been detected" on each failed re-install attempt ... which have been at least 10!  I believe this is because the software didn't finish the install.
I ran disk cleanup between each retry as well - however I know for a fact all things were not removed from registry and found several folders in the Temp folder after as well. I didn't know what was safe to remove and what wasn't so left them alone.
I did get a screenshot of the Error Situation Code from the error log it prepared to send to HP and which is what prompted the  "A solution has been found for this particular problem" message and download of an app called HP Installation Error - XP.hta. Again, attempts to do these steps also failed.
I am at my wits end and hope to be able to solve this issue. I need my printer soon (I am making wedding invites "soon").
    Here is my screenshot.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

First:  I am a bit disappointed that it has taken over a month for a reply. I all but gave up.
I followed these instruction at the link provided. However, I couldn't follow through -
When I clicked on the HP Update link provided, I choose XP, selected Next, clicked the plus sign next to Update (It only showed Update(6)) I do NOT get an option anywhere for "HP Update Software Utility".
    All I get are these:
    1. Critical Update: Cannot find scanned image or document files after scanning completes.
    2. Solution Center Update
    3. HP Print Driver Update
    4. Critical Update to Enhance Reliability of Network and USB Connectivity and Improve System Responsiveness While Printing
    5. Critical Update to Correct a PC to Printer Communication Issue
    6. Critical Update for HP Photosmart Essential
I do not understand what is even going on with this software! I have installed/uninstalled many times. The last time I got as shown in images in above messages. The software hung at the 96% mark on the final configuration. I went through all the steps shown in previous messages to troubleshoot. Followed all options given. Nothing worked.
This time I did not uninstall the software. It is listed in Program Files. It is listed in the Registry. The monitor icon is in the sys tray and is showing a green checkmark as seen here:
When I try to open Solution Center I get this message:
I can still use the printer (have not tried the scanner - its an Photosmart C8180 AIO) but cannot access advanced features.
I can access Photosmart Essentials. When it first opened it asked to check for updates. I thought I would just to see if the software was working. This is the message I got:
BUT, as you can see - I am online already! What is up with that?
While going through some of those steps provided in the link you gave me in the above message I went into Event Viewer to see what I could find. I cannot believe after all the years I have used the computer - I never knew about that!
Interesting information. I found many error messages and warnings (for a total of 21!) in there related to the HP install attempts. Many are repeats because of the sheer number of times I uninstalled/reinstalled. All contained either an error code of 1904 or 1905. Each showed an issue with either Flash (filed to register), smartwebprinting (ClipBook.dll not existing), etc. I am going to give screenshots of the ones that seem to be different (bare with me here):
OKAY ... That was all the messages. You can see on them which were fatal and which were warnings.
NOTE: About the one showing an error with the Flash. Flash is installed and it is the latest version. I do not recall if it was at that time (since this has been over 30 days ago), and as I said - I have not tried to reinstall again .... I cannot begin to tell you how discuted I am with HP 'anything' at the moment.
I hope I have not left anything out after all this time. I have tried to provide as much information as possible. I hope to hear back; soon.
    Thank you.

  • C8180 All in one not printing

I have a C8180 All in one that I can print an alignment paste from the desktop but nothing else.  Running on Vista home premium.

    HI ,
I noticed that you're experiencing issues when printing to your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Printer. I understand that the trouble started when you got a new computer. I would like to look into this for you today. We're looking at the possiblity that the new computer is interfering with the printer's IP Address on the Network. Let's see, if we can identify the cause. I see that you mentioned in your post, Wireless and Wired connection. How is the printer connected? (Ethernet/Wireless) Here's a document I would recommend that you try, An 'Unable to Find Printer' Error Displays for the HP Officejet Pro 251dw, 276dw, and 8600 Printer Series.
Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor to help identify and fix common problems when installing or using HP s on your home network. What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages). Note:  You might need to follow this guide for both of the computers. I recommend following it to the end, and then try printing from both machines.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck!

  • Error Message OXc 19a0035

This error message keeps coming up.  I have done all the suggested "fixes" from turning off and on to unplugging the power cord from printer and wall socket.  Nothing seems to be fixing this problem.   I have always used HP inks and keep the inks refilled when needed.
I don't want to get rid of this printer because it has so many features that I like to use and the newer printers on the market don't offer many of the features this Photosmart C8180 All-In-One has.
Need some advice on what to do next.

    Hi there 57nomad,
To make sure this is not software related try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:

  • Photosmart C8180 power off flashing lights

My Photosmart C8180 starts flashing all its front panel lights even though it's powered off and computer is off. The C8180 shows a different error message each time this happens, eg, B0379A21 and C4EB0FB2. Computer is an iMac running OS 10.6.8. Problem occurs whether networked via USB or Ethernet. When not exhibiting this problem its operation seems normal; color printing is excellent. The only solution to stopping the problem I have found is to unplug the printer's power cord.

    Hello Tom7,
Thanks for the update!  Let's not give up on it yet, check the below link as well, remove and reseat the cartridges, clean if necessary.  When you do reset the printer, make sure you are going direct to a wall outlet, not a power strip or power block.  Good Luck!
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03081973&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&la...
Solution one: Reset the printerThe error message might disappear after you turn off the printer and then turn it on again. After you make any adjustments to the cartridges or the printhead, reset the printer in order for the error message to clear completely. Follow these steps to reset the printer.
Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
With the product turned on , disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button ( ) to turn it on.
If the error message disappears, the issue is resolved and you do not need to troubleshoot further.
If the error message persists, continue to the next solution.

  • Photosmart c8180 scanning software crashes

I keep getting an error message while scanning slides "an error occured in the scanning software. After each step, try scanning again"  and there are numbers at the bottom of the message "4,[(3,46,0)]"  My All-in-One is a C8180 using Windows XP.  I have reinstalled the software 2 times with the same results.
    This question was solved.

I think the solution was to go to change scan settings then to Advanced TMA settings and check the Optimize for Kodachrome slides.

  • C8180 refuses to recognize BT300 or BT450 dongles

My new Photosmart C8180 has just (suddenly) stopped recognizing the BT450 dongle (marked bt400) we had in it.  I've tried the BT dongle in another printer and the dongle works fine.  Also, another BT dongle, a BT300, gives the same error in the C8180 and works fine in all other compatible HP printers.
WHen either dongle is put in to the printer, the printer screen shows "Unknown device..."  On HP Solution Centre the error message is "Only a pictbridge compatible device...."
This is the second C8180 I've had with problems.
    Very unhappy by now.

The C8180 has built-in Bluetooth, and doesnt need a Bluetooth dongle to be inserted into the PictBridge slot. Just turn on the Bluetooth radio using the Bluetooth menu in the Setup Menu, and that's how you turn on the bluetooth on the printer.

  • C8180 Improper shutdown

My Photosmart C8180 shuts down and reboots intermittently and I get the error message "improper shutdown". How can I fix this?

My C8180 I currently own, and the hp printer I had prior, both do the same thing. I called hp about it and they tried to sell me a brand new printer for more that Amazon sells them. My printer is two months out of warranty. They admitted that there is a firmware problem and said normally they would replace the printer, but there is nothing they can do because it is out of warranty. I tried to talk to a supervisor about it because it is not a wear problem, it is an "it's not well designed" problem. He offered to match Amazon's price and offer a three year warranty for $1. I asked to speak to a manager and they set up an appointment for the next evening. Guess what? They never called! After tonight, I am starting a "Truth about HP" campaign on every social network I am on as well as email and word of mouth. HP does not back their products and are difficult to deal with. Let’s all try an Epson!

    Hi flowerguy,
I understand that you are having issues with the printer turning on and off. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue. Follow the steps in this document for The Product Fails to Turn Off and the 'Shutting Down' Message Displays on the Control Panel for resetting the printer and making sure it is plugged directly into a wall outlet.
Although it is not stating a paper jam, please follow the steps in this document for 'Paper Jam' Message Displays on the Control Panel Display  to make sure there is no debris or paper blocking the carriage from moving. If the carriage is blocked and trying to move it may be overheating causing it to turn on and off.
