Message on iPhone 3GS screen  Pwr off/on;  Cancel / Accept

I manage my business's AT&T account and iPhones. One of my users had his phone go off the 3G network sometime over the weekend. I called AT&T and had them re-send the signal to the phone. I shut the phone off, turned it back on and it seemed to be working fine - accepting email over 3G network, etc.
About two minutes after it started working fine, the phone popped up a message with a black screen that said, simply, "Pwr off/on" At the bottom of the screen were the [red] and [green] Cancel or Accept options. I chose Accept and the phone remained powered on and working fine. I have never seen this message before (and have been working with iPhones since they first came out) and was curious if anyone else has seen the message and knows what it means and/or why I got it. Thanks!

That message does come up sometimes - usually when you first activate the phone. I think it has something to do with registering itself to the network. That will also happen if AT&T makes a change to a tower and you're on it, the same message will pop up.
Funny enough, if you hit the Accept button, nothing happens. I expected the phone to restart on its own, but it didn't. I ended up just manually powering it off and back on again.

  • Black Pwr off/on Cancel/ Accept screen?

Turned my phone off and then back on this morning. After about 30 seconds on the home screen I got an all black screen with "Pwr off/on" at the top and cancel accept buttons on the bottom. I ignored and it went back to the home screen. Anyone seen this? What is it?

My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!

Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

  • Why does my iPhone 3GS keep powering off into a black screen with what looks like a barcode displayed?

My iPhone 3GS keeps powering off at any point when between 5 and 50% battery remains.
I could be in the middle of texting, receiving a call or using an app when all of a sudden the screen goes black and very faint randomly distributed lines are visible from the top of the screen to the bottom. The display looks a little like a barcode. I am then unable to restart the phone without plugging it into a power supply. I've looked on the Internet and cannot find a similair case.
It is so frustrating and I am continually thinking it will crash at any point.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks

When the "white symbol" is the white Apple logo, it is starting up....
    Can take some time.

  • Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?

Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?
The screen isn't broken because it works after i turn the device off and back on, but after it goes black once, it's only white again.
But it takes the touches although it's only white, because I can answer my phone when I slide my finger on the bottom of the screen, eventhough there in not the button to see.
This is so weird. I have already done everything I can think of that might help. But I cannot think of anything that might be causing it, because nothing has happened to the device.

Let me know if I should start a new discussion instead of opening a new topic here.
My wife's iPhone is the same vintage as mine 3Gs, but has never had the battery problem.  Its affliction instead is that it cannot detect WiFi networks unless it is quite close to the source.  Often, when my iPhone not only detects but shows a maximum cells connection with a network, hers cannot detect the network at all.  In contrast, her iPhone seems to detect ourcellular carrier just as well as mine does.
Is there any help for this affliction?

  • My iphone 3GS screen went black

my iphone 3GS screen randomly went black and it was fully charged... ive tried to hold the buttons down that turn it off, i tried plugging it into the wall and my computer nothing is working the screen is still black

My wife's phone has done this today.
16Gb 3GS running 5.1.1 that has been fine up until today.
It was around 80% charged and running rather slowly today, then it appears to have shut off. The symptoms are:
    - The screen has gone black (as in off, not on but showing a black screen)
    - The mute switch does not make it vibrate.
    - I can call the phone number and it rings, the phone does nothing though.
    - I connect it to my Mac and iPhoto launches, I can import pictures from it OK.
    - iTunes will recognise it eventually, but it will not sync, nor will it restore.
    - Holding the Hold & Home buttons does nothing.
    - I cannot force it into recovery or DFU modes.
Bit stuck as to what to try next. Still seeing what I can find online.
It only needed to last until next month!

  • Why is my Iphone 3Gs screen appear to be disintegrating?

Iphone 3Gs screen appears to have burn holes in it and looks like it is disintegrating in a pixelated format.  There appears to be a dark rainbowlike hole in the areas affected.  There are also small pixelated lines that run though areas of the top and bottom of the screen.  We tried turning off the phone for an extended period of time and it seemed to get better but now it the problem has persisted and gotten worse.

Whether this is due to a defect in the display or damage, there's no way to fix it without replacing the display or entire phone.
If the phone is still under warranty or AppleCare, take it to Apple or whoever provides iPhone warranty service in your area.  If out of warranty, Apple can give you an out-of-warranty replacement (refurb) for $199 (in USA).
Another choice is to take it to a 3rd party iPhone repair center which may be able to fix it for a lot less.  If you know what you're doing, you can buy a new LCD screen and install it yourself.

  • My iPhone 3gs screen freezes

    my iPhone 3gs screen freezes

    Greetings cheersone,
From what I can gather from your post, it sounds like your device is frozen or not responding. I have located article which may help you resolve this:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
If your device doesn't respond when you press buttons
Your device might not return to the Home screen when you press the Home button, wake from sleep when you press the Sleep/Wake button, slide to unlock or power off, or it might appear frozen. Try these steps:
    Restart your device.
If it still doesn't respond, or if it doesn't turn back on, reset your device.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • IPhone 3GS keeps turning off/shutting down.Have done system restore but no improvement. Suggestions welcome.

iPhone 3GS keeps turning off/shutting down. After numerous attempts I've managed to get it on again. Any ideas - could it be battery? Suggestions welcome.

Try forcing the phone into recovery mode and restore as a new device.
    Follow these steps:
iOS: How to back up your device and setup as a new device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
Doing this will help eliminate any possible software issue that could be causing this. Setting up a new device will bypass a backup with possible data corruption.
If the issue continues after this, you should contact Apple for service for the phone as it will very likely be a hardware issue.
