Message pops up on iTunes and wont play music.

"iTunes has detected that it is not the default player for audio files. Would you like to go to the Default Programs control panel to fix this?"
So I went but I dont know how to fix this.
I have Windows Vista... just in case that might help.
Then I noticed that no music will play at all on my computer.
Not even online.
What do I do?
My computer was working perfectly yesterday.
I remember listening to music any advice?

Can you play anything using Windows Media Player? If not, go to start > help & support becuase it is a windows problem, not something for the apple discussions boards.

  • My music has a cloud with a redline next to it and wont play music I downloaded

I downloaded songs from itunes and they wont play they have a cloud next to them with a redline through it, I cannot seem to fix this problem

Ok strange work around but try this. Hook your phone up to the computer you sync it to. On the phone go to settings / iTunes & App store double tap your apple ID and log out. Then sync your phone. (make sure you have selected the music or apps you want to sync in iTunes on your computer). That should move all those cloud with red line songs to your phone (or other device). Now just sign back into your account on the phone.

  • "Lost" files and wont play music

First, iTunes stopped playing music. I double clicked a song, it would show up in the bar at the top, and then start scanning through all 14k songs in my library maybe playing every other song's first second or two. Then it started telling me that song files couldn't be found. Now it's doing both. I just upgraded to the new iTunes and it's still not working.

Further, I can't get the grey box to go away asking me if I want to search for the next song that's suddenly missing.

  • I have copied over my music file to a new computer and the music shows on itunes but wont play. When I track where the song is located it is reading the wrong information. How do I change this as Edit Preferences has the right location

I have copied over my music files to a new computer and the music shows on itunes but wont play. When I track where the song is located it is reading the wrong information. How do I change this as Edit>Preferences has the right location?

Select one of the tracks with a broken link, press ctrl-i to Get Info. Say No when iTunes asks if you would like to locate the track, then look at the Summary tab for the location expects to find the file in.
Now try to locate the file in question. The two locations should give a clue as to what to do next.
Here is an example with a file I've deliberately moved from the new layout to the old pre-iTunes 9 layout.
This means iTunes is expecting to find the file at:
    D:\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\a-ha\Take On Me\01 Take On Me.mp3
but it isn't there because I've moved it to:
    D:\iTunes\iTunes Media\a-ha\Take On Me\01 Take On Me.mp3
which is where it would have lived back in iTunes 8 (though the media folder would have been called iTunes Music back then as well).
If you can provide the expected and actual locations of a broken track I should be able to suggest the easiest way to resolve things.

My iPhne is 4S, after I downloading the latest OS 5.1 and extracting and verifying, it came to a point on iTunes where it could not at all, activate my iPhone. A message popped up on iTunes saying - "There is a problem with your iPhone"; We're sorry, the iPhone you connected may be damaged and cannot be activated for service. We recommend that you visit your nearest Apple Store for more information. Please kindly suggest me how to do.

Not surprised that you took a paragraph from my post to repost the same issue.
It is a hardware/software fault which you'll have to get the iPhone replaced if you're under warranty.

  • When I try to play a song on Itunes, it has an explanation point next to every song and wont play.

When I try to play a song on Itunes, it has an explanation point next to every song and wont play.

The usual reason for missing files is that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.
When you get things fixed make a backup.

I downloaded new music onto itunes and it plays just fine but when i sync it to my ipod 4th gen. it wont sync. They greyed out when i click "on this ipod". Help me?

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync or delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    Help ASAP needed

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If your iPod is with in the one-year warrranty, not abused and defective Apple will replace it.
