Message server related

Kindly help me to understand on the below: (AIX, ECC6, Oracle 10.2)
I know that message server performs load balancing and co-ordinates communication between several instances... Now, if I have an SAP ECC6 system that has only one instance, the MS will be installed automatically as a service.
a: if I disable my message server, will it affect the system.. Ofcourse, the users connecting to the system will have to use the app server to connect directly; but will the system operations suffer ?
b: how can I start message server / dispatcher from the command line... the start profile says (Start_Program_00 = local $(_MS) pf=$(_PF)). If I execute, $(_MS) pf=$(_PF) (with substitution of MS as ms.sapSIDNO and _PF=profile path), will it start the message server and similarly the dispatcher and other services ?
Thanks,

Hi Jay-Basis,
a. yes there is a serious effect on the system if ms is not active. All the requests were routed using MS ,if MS itself is disabled or not active there will not be any requests flow in and out.Secondly if the installation is dual stack, there is no means of processing java requests.
b.As far as i know there is no mechanism to start seperately MS, since SAP start or stop of services are controlled by Start up controlled framework that was initiated once if start command was given.

  • DS and Messaging server relation

    Hi,
I have a question here, I found out that my customer's DS has an extended schema, subBlacklist=yes or subBlacklist=no, where messaging server will determined whether to block this particular user from sending email if he has the attribute subBlacklist=yes.
Which part/configuration files in messaging that is related to this configuration?
    FYI, customer is using
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-8.04 (built Feb 28 2007)

    Hi,
I have a question here, I found out that my
customer's DS has an extended schema,
subBlacklist=yes or subBlacklist=no,"my customer" .. are you the system administrator or a third party partner etc. providing charged assistance - I would really object if you were making money off assistance I offer for free in my own time???
Which part/configuration files in messaging that is
related to this configuration? This would most likely be implemented in a mapping table call-out. The easiest way to find the relevant file it is to run:
    grep -i subBlacklist <msg_base>/config/*Regards,

  • Question about active queue and related msg of Nets.Messaging server 4.15

I have Netscape Messaging Server 4.15 Patch 7 (buil
t Sep 11 2001). I see that the number of messages in active queue viewed as number of file (ls -l queue/messages | wc -l) doesn't matches with the number of messages that I see in Mailbox-deliver as showed by sendmail -bp command.
    Why?
Very often number of file are few hundred, when the emulator of sendmail shows only twenty-thirty messages.
And I see that the messages in active queue (if I open them with commands like more, view...) are all for local domains on server, so mailbox-deliver.
There are sometimes a lot of messages of months ago...
    Thank you very much

  • Unable to open Messaging Server 6.2 through admin console 5.2

    my system is

    Microsoft Windows 2000 version 5.2 (Build 3790)
i installed Sun Java Enterprise System (directory, admin, messaging) servers on my windows 2003 server, all is working fine except:
1- unable to open my messaging server through my admin console 5.2.
when checking the error log file i see
"[05/Jun/2006:10:51:49] failure ( 2624): for host t.est.hotmail.com trying to GET /msg-config/tasks/operation/cgi_root, cgi_scan_headers reports: the CGI program E:\Sun\Server-Root\bin\msg\admin\bin\cgi_root.exe did not produce a valid header (program terminated without a valid CGI header. 2- When creating a new user through the admin console 5.2, and check the mail account checkbox, i don't get the "mail tab" to complete the needed information, and therefore the newly created user is not an active email account as mainly the mailhost attribute has not been created for the account
Is this related to the problem in point 1?
NOTE 1: i ran cmm_dssetup.pl before configuring the messaging server and selected schema 1
NOTE 2: i downloaded the software from sun.com, didn't register it yet as i'm in the testing phase
Appreciate your help, direction and tips

    Oh, my.....
    1. The Directory Console is not very useful, for anything in Messaging 6. The MTA is configured via editing files, and the mail store is better configured using the configutil utility.
    2. You SHOULD NOT attempt to create users with the Directory Console. They won't work. Use either the command-line tools provided (comm-admin), or use the Delegated Admin tool provided.

  • Messaging server size limit

    Hallo
As I see, I have common problem among the Sun Messaging Server administrators. I have whole system distributed on several virtual solaris machines and some days ago emerged message size problem. I noticed it in relation with incoming mail. When I create new user, he or she can't get larger mail then 300K. Sender get will known message:
This message is larger than the current system limit or the recipient's mailbox is full. Create a shorter message body or remove attachments and try sending it again.
<server.domain.com #5.3.4 smtp;552 5.3.4 a message size of 302 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 300 kilobytes computed for this transaction>
Interesting thin is, that this problem arised with no correlation with other actions. I noticed this problem with new users before, but i could successful manage it with different service packs. Now this method with new users, this method doesn't work! Old users normally recieve messages bigger then 300k, as before.
I tried to set default setting blocklimit 2000 in imta.cnf, but I didn't succeed.
I know, that size limit can be set on different places, but is there a simple way, to set sending and recieving message size unlimited?
    Messaging server version is:
    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7u2-7.02 64bit (built Apr 16 2009)*
    libimta.so 7u2-7.02 64bit (built 03:03:02, Apr 16 2009)*

    Regards
    Matej

For the sake of correctness, the attribute name in LDAP is mailMsgMaxBlocks.
I also stumbled upon this - the values like 300 blocks or 7000 blocks are set in (sample) service packages but are not advertised in Delegated Admin web-interface. When packages are assigned, these values are copied into each user's LDAP entry as well, and can not be seen or changed in web-interface.
And then mail users get "weird" errors like:
550 5.2.3 user limit of 7000 kilobytes on message size exceeded: [email protected]
    or
550 5.2.3 user limit of 300 kilobytes on message size exceeded: [email protected]
    resulting in
    <[email protected]>... User unknown
    or
552 5.3.4 a message size of 7003 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 7000 kilobytes computed for this transaction
    or
552 5.3.4 a message size of 302 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 300 kilobytes computed for this transaction
    resulting in
    Service unavailable
I guess there are other similar error messages, but these two are most common.
I hope other people googling up the problem would get to this post too ;)
One solution is to replace the predefined service packages with several of your own, i.e. ldapadd entries like these (fix the dc=domain,dc=com part to suit your deployment, and both cn parts if you rename them), and restart the DA webcontainer:
    dn: cn=Mail-Calendar - Unlimited,o=mailcalendaruser,o=cosTemplates,dc=domain,dc=com
    cn: Mail-Calendar - Unlimited

If your deployment uses other SMTP components, like milters to check for viruses and spam, in/out relays separate from Sun Messaging, other mailbox servers, etc. make sure to use a common size limit.
For sendmail relays sendmail.mc (m4) config source file it could mean lines like these:
    define(`SMTP_MAILER_MAX', `20480000')dnl
    define(`confMAX_MESSAGE_SIZE', `20480000')dnl

  • Messaging server  7 duplicate folders

    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7.3-11.01 64bit (built Sep 1 2009)
    libimta.so 7.3-11.01 64bit (built 19:54:45, Sep 1 2009)
    Using /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/config/imta.cnf (compiled)
    SunOS 5.10 Generic_142900-03 sun4v sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5120
After installling messaging server 7 and restoring data (imsrestore), webmail client shows me a draft folder and a Borradores (spanish) folder.
The messenger express client shows both as "Borradores" and just one keeps old messages, but new ones are save in the other one.
The same issue for Sent (Enviados) and Trash (Basura).
Not all users present this problem, and have not found the characteristic that makes the diference.
The ldap entry atributes (related with folder configuration) for a right user (no duplicate folders) is like this:
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meDraftFolder=Drafts
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meSentFolder=Sent
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meTrashFolder=Trash
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meInitialized=true
    And for a wrong user:
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meSentFolder=Enviado
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meInitialized=true
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meDateFormat=0/
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meColorSet=5
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: mePrevTrash=Papelera
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meExpungeOnExit=true
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meViewSize=100
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meAutoSpell=true
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meDraftFolder=Drafts
I have tryied changing nswmExtendedUserPrefs attribute from "meSentFolder=Borradores" to "meSentFolder=Draft" without success.
I am not sure where is the problem, messaging configuration or it is a ldap issue.
Any idea will be apreciated, thanks.

    adding to what Shane said...
doing this via IMAP is the best bet. If you are moving messages between folders in the same account, you can do that via IMAP and the Message Store will end up doing it all via hard links in the file system rather than actually copying the data. So it should be nice and fast and low impact on your disk space and system. In IMAP, "move" consists of COPY to the destination folder and then flagging the originals as deleted and doing expunge. That will update store.* files and create hard links for the messages in the destination folders, but not copy the message data. You will not need to do any reconstructs.
imsbackup/imsrestore could do it, but will end up copying the data - unless you enable real time relinker - so this method is more load on the system.
And manually moving the files around in the store would require reconstruct and is generally not as good an idea as doing it via IMAP. If you have only a few folders to do this to, then you could do the IMAP commands by hand as easily as you could hack on the store files directly.

  • Messaging Server and Calendar Server Mount points for SAN

    Hi! Jay,
We are planning to configure "JES 05Q4" Messaging and Calendar Servers on 2 v490 Servers running Solaris 9.0, Sun Cluster, Sun Volume Manager and UFS. The Servers will be connected to the SAN (EMC Symmetrix) for storage.
    I have the following questions:
    1. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Messaging Server?
I was planning to have the following on SAN:
    - /opt/SUNWmsgsr
    - /var/opt/SUNWmsgsr
    - Sun Cluster (Global Devices)
Are there any other mount points that needs to be on SAN for Messaging to be configured on Sun Cluster?
    2. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Calendar Server?
I was planning to have the following on SAN:
    - /opt/SUNWics5
    - /var/opt/SUNWics5
    - /etc/opt/SUNWics5
    3. What are the SAN mount points to be setup for Web Server (v 6.0) for Delegated Admin 1.2?
    - /opt/ES60 (Planned location for Web Server)
Delegated Admin will be installed under /opt/ES60/ida12
Directory server will be on its own cluster. Are there any other storage needs to be considered?
Also, Is there a good document that walks through step-by-step on how to install Messaging, Calendar and Web Server on 2 node Sun Cluster.
The installation document doesn't do a good job or atleast I am seeing a lot of gaps.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    There are basically two choices..
    a) Have local binaries in cluster nodes (e.g 2 nodes) ... which means there will be two sets of binaries, one on each node in your case.
Then when you configure the software ..you will have to point the data directory to a cluster filesystem which may not be neccasarily global. But this filsystem should be mountable on both nodes.
The advantage of this method is that ... during patching and similar system maintenance activities....the downtime is minimum...
The disadvantage is that you have to maintain two sets of binaries ..i.e patch twice.
The suggested filesystems can be e.g.
    /opt for local binaries
/SJE/SUNWmsgr for data (used during configure option)
This will mean installing the binaries twice...
    b) Having a single copy of binaries on clustered filesystem....
This was the norm in iMS5.2 era ...and Sun would recommend this...though I have seen type a) also for iMs 5.2
This means there should no configuration files in local fs. Everything related to iPlanet on clustered filesystem.
I have not come accross type b) post SUNONE i.e 6.x .....it seems 6.x has to keep some files on the local filesystem anyway..so b) is either not possible or needs some special configuration
so may be you should try a) ...
    The Sequence would be ..
After the cluster framework is ready:
    1) Insall the binaries on both side
2 ) Install agent on one side
    3) switch the filesytem resource on any node
    4) Configure the software with the clustered FS
    5) Switch the filesystem resource on the other node and useconfig of first node.
    Cheers--

    Hi,
This JCO Exception caused by network problems, connection breakdowns, gateway problems, unavailability of the remote SAP system, etc.
What you can do is: Get the host of the SAP System from dev_jrfc.trc or the JRFC trace; ping the SAP system from command line; check routers, gateways, SAP systems
If an error has occurred on a lower communication layer, for example an RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION or RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE exception, have a look at the dev_jrfc.trc files. These files are written by JRFC and can be found in the directories j2ee/cluster/server* of the J2EE Application Server Installation.

This sounds like there is something wrong in your LMTP configuration. Is delivery working at all? Or does it only fail for these addresses?
I would say to add master_debug to the LMTP channel on the MTA and see what more detail that provides in master debug log files.

  • Can a customer extend Messaging Server cryptographic capabilities?

One more question was brought up internally: is it possible to integrate Messaging Server and the related components with a third-party cryptographic software in order to extend SSL and Certificate authentication?
There's certain development in JCP (Java 1.6 crypto) which has hooks for adding algorithms; perhaps it can be used to extend Access Manager and similar Java web-apps. But Messaging Server, Web/App Server, etc. engines are not quite Java... is there a way to extend them with some API, command-line calls, etc.?

If you wanted to get the GOST cipher suite implemented the best place to start would be to ask on the mozilla newsgroup (mozilla.dev.tech.crypto) although as was pointed our by a Messaging Server developer, implementing the GOST suite is far from straight-forward which may explain why nobody has implemented it till now.
I did however find the following RFC which may help your endeavours:

  • Problem with server-relative Data Connections

I have an infopath form (2007) set up to submit data to a web service. Because we want the form to be browser-enabled, I set up data connection files to submit through.
When I try to submit in the browser, I get an error message. When I open the form in Infopath and submit there, I get this more detailed message:
"One or more data connections in your form are specified with a server-relative link, but no publish location has been defined for the form. Data connection settings will be retrieved from the server specified at design time. To enable the server-relative
link, publish your form to a Microsoft Office Server. Certain types of server-defined Web Service connections will not work with the design time settings."
If I hit OK here, the data submits to the web service properly.
I'm not sure what the problem is. My form is published to this location:
    https://portal.company.com/ca/it/requestform/Forms/
And the data connection library is here:
    https://portal.company.com/ca/it/connections/Forms/
Any suggestions? Am I missing something obvious?
    thanks.

I am able now to test my connexion succesfully after having restart my ODI.
I can reverse my XML file too.
But my datastores are empty except the first datastore genrated which correspond to the first Tag (the one after the root).

    Hi,
Seems to be a problem with your GUI as the dump MESSAGE_TYPE_X is generally related to GUI. Use some higher version of GUI than the existing one.
Also Updates are not active in your system. Use transaction SM13 to check whether updates are active or not. If not then use transaction SM14 to turn on the updates.
