Message: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close." I've tried un/reinstall. IE also fails, Chrome ok.

One or two users have reported this problem before but no-one has found a clear solution. Two days ago all was fine. Now Firefox won't open, error message as above. Oddly it shows as running in the task manager! At the same time I found Internet Explorer is also failing to open. But Chrome is working normally!
I have tried restore points, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Deleting all files in folder. Of course I cannot get to profile as cannot open firefox! I did not recently add any new extensions/add-ons.
I am using Chrome now but really would like not to abandon Firefox after all these years.

Hi iantwebb, sorry to repeat myself, but:
There seem to be a very diverse range of problems that can cause that error, as shown in this Google search:
https://www.google.com/search?q=application+unable+start+correctly+%280xc0000022%29
Since IE won't start either, I suggest posting on Microsoft's support forum since they obviously are much more familiar with the clogs in the plumbing that cause this than we are here.

  • Media Encoder issue - The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022)

I've just installed Adobe Media Encoder CC and upon opening the application I receive this error:
    How should I fix this?

This is a Dynamic Link error.
DL is technology linking DVA applications together.
Do you by any chance have mixed versions of DVA application?  Like Premiere Pro CC 2014 and AME CC (2013)?
That could possibly cause such issue.  You should use matching releases as much as possible.
So if you update one video product (Premiere Pro, AE, Prelude, AME, Audition) you should update all the other ones.
If that's not the case, open up task manager, Force End Dynamic Link task.  Then try to launch AME.
If still no help, reboot the system and then try to launch AME.
If still have this issue, hold the shift key then launch AME (This will reset AME preferences).

    Hi econj,
As Acrobat 7 is not supported by Windows 8, you might need to update the supported Adobe Acrobat version.

    Hi,
There is not enough information about the problem. For troubleshooting, I recommend you can use Process Monitor to detect whether there's any process failed.
You can download Process Monitor and see how to use it for troubleshooting in below links:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939896
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2007/06/01/troubleshooting-with-process-monitor.aspx
There are a lot of log entries in Process Monitor, you may filter Visual Studio process only(proces = devenv.exe). And you can upload the logs to OneDrive so that we can investigate them.
Also, you can refer to Gfazil's post in
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/96035692-9a50-40d4-a7d3-48bda87d11ec/the-application-was-unable-to-start-correctly-0xc000007b-click-ok-to-close-the-application-when?forum=vssetup
Please try the method he mentioned to see whether the problem can occur:
" Replacing the dlls mentioned below from a machine that is working solves the problem:
    c:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcp100.dll
    c:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcp100d.dll
    c:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr100.dll
    c:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr100_clr0400.dll
    c:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr100d.dll "

  • The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005)

    Dear Support,
This is to inform you that we are using Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprises Edition (x64) & suddently it is showing the message "The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005. Click OK to close the
    application."
I have already checked all the technical steps as per Microsoft solutions like-
these are the steps that I have been done.
    1. I have checked regedit Hkey_Classes_Root>exefile>shell>open>(default) as "%1" %*
    2. Uninstalled dotnet frameware & re-installed correctly.
    2. Microsoft C++ 2005,2008 redistributable re-installed.
    3. The Windows has been updated.
    4. check by "Microsoft Fix-it" & executed, the report is clean.
    5. The Anti Virus is disabled (Quick Heal).
    6. & all the junk files are cleaned as well (like- %temp%).
But its still showing the error while we are trying to open a application (most of the *.exe), [Application name.exe has stopped working>The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005. Click OK to close the application.
Kindly do the needful solutions urgently.

    Hi,
First please test if it is caused by third party application. A Clean Boot could help disable all third party applications.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796/en-us
Meanwhile is there any change made before the issue occurs, such as Windows Update, installed any program etc? If there is a restore point before the issue occurs, it may be a quicker solution for this issue.
If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected]
