I have a MacBook Pro with all the necessary requirements.

Here are a few things to try:
    Restart your Modem and Router.
Reset iTunes Store Cache (iTunes Preferences, Advanced tabl)
Delete the App Store plists (close App Store first):
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
To get to these,iIf you still have your user Library hidden, hold down the Option key and select Library from the Go menu in Finder. Otherwise, just go into your home folder, then Library, and then Preferences.

I have tried to re-install Lion
If you are trying to reinstall Lion, you need to use Lion Recovery

For that issue, quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    Click Go
Move the NetworkInterfaces.plist file from the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store and try downloading MLion.
*****   Your post is rather confusing. There's a difference between reinstalling Lion and downloading Mountain Lion.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Mavericks Update - Error message - The product distribution file could not be verified

    Help!
Trying to download mavericks (from 10.7.5) as I have just had a new hard disk isntalled and need to start from scratch.
Wanting to re download iphoto but I can't as I need a newer OS so trying to download mavericks from the app store. My internet is very slow and keeps cutting out so I have tried a few times but it's not working.
Now I'm getting an error message - 'the product distribution fil could not be verified'
If anyone can help that would be great.
Or even let me know where I can get a copy of iphoto to suit OS 10.7.5 so I don't need to download a whole new OS.

You're trying to download a 5 GB file. If your Internet connection is lousy, you won't have much success. Try another network.

I just tried to buy Mountain Lion but I am getting this message, yes, even after I reboot: The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.
I don't understand what this means? Is my MacBookPro too old to work with Mountain Lion?

  • Trying to download free upgrade get this message: "The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed." Please pelp

I tried to download the upgrade and it started, but I think my connection was spotty because then it stopped and when I tried to redownload that is the message that keeps popping up.  Also I bought the computer in America in July, but am now living in Japan.  Not sure if that makes any difference whatsoever, but I figured as much info as I could give would help.  I appreciate any advice.

    Try this...

    Click Go
Move the NetworkInterfaces.plist file from the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store and try downloaing Mountain Lion.
Might also need to disable anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall.

  • Why am I getting this App Store message for the new OS: The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.

Why am I getting this App Store message:
The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.

I had the same problem. Spoke to Apple support who directed me to Itunes support.  Frustrating to say the least.  Some have said remove virus barrier.  I did and still nothing.  Some posts have said to delete App store.  DON'T DO IT.. App store is tuff to get back.  This did work for me. Go to Finder, then go, pick go to folder, type in, /var/folder, and delete (send to trash).  There were 2 folders I had to delete, KX & XX, and as soon as I sent them to the trash they returned but I was able to download & intall Mountain Lion and working well.  Good luck..

  • HT202159 message comes on about "the product distribution file could not be verified.  It may be damaged or was not signed"

I just bought a new macbook pro --- it came with lion, updating to mountain lion.  I had to pause the download of mountain lion and today when I tried to resume it gave me the message "the product distribution file could not be located.  It may be damaged or was not signed"  How do I resume the download?

Installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo) reinstalls the App Store for you which may help.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.7.4.
    Then try the App Store.
