Message to developers of Captivate 4

Captivate is excellent in some areas but then lets itself and users down by not including many basic functions that many other learning design software does. I have used Omniplex Trainer and Course lab
Course Lab is freeware which in many respects is more powerful than Captivate 4 and has excellent free support from the developer usualy replying within 12 hours, it offers all of the things Captivate does bar the interactive assessment screen recording but that add on costs 90$ actualy not bad when courselab is free.
Captivate 4 is missing:
Cool looking Templates.
Exit button
Print page option
Progress bar
Can not place more than one quiz question per page
Can not display quiz percentage on selected pages
Can not copy and paste on results page
Can not add new buttons on results page
Why do you have to rely on excellent other users to supply things like printing widgets

Hi there
You said:
Captivate 4 is missing:
Cool looking Templates.
This is a highly subjective statement. What may seem like a "Cool looking template" to you may totally turn another off. Keep in mind that oftentimes a template leads you to conclude it's the ONLY way that you can create something. I find that what I create is limited only by my own imagination. So the flip side of this is that Adobe is helping you be creative. Rather than make a blanket observation that nothing "cool" has been provided, perhaps you might point us to some examples of what you feel is cool? Keep in mind that you can freely insert images here in posts.
Exit button
Captivate provides an Exit button. It's right there on all the playback controls. Captivate 4 now has scripting and variables. One of the new things you can do is to script a button for Exit. Of course many will then complain because it doesn't work 100% of the time. And that's out of Adobe's hands because it depends on a number of factors. Browser, Browser Version, How the window was opened to begin with, etc.
Print page option
Captivate 4 includes a Print Widget. Might not behave as you like, but there is an option for printing the page. They even provided a means for you to create your own widgets and extend the capabilities as you wish.
Progress bar
There is a progress bar in the playback controls.
Can not place more than one quiz question per page
I have to admit that I shake my head every time I see this one mentioned. For Heaven's sake, how many questions do you want to put in the user's face on a single slide? I can't personally fathom why you would have a need to present umpteen questions all at the same time.
Can not display quiz percentage on selected pages
This might actually be possible if you use the new scripting and variables functionality of Captivate 4.
Can not copy and paste on results page
What exactly are you wanting to copy and paste? To generically say that copy and paste isn't an option is inaccurate. Maybe you cannot copy and paste exactly what you want, but I'm certainly able to copy images from another slide and paste them onto a results slide. Same goes the other way around. If I've inserted an image on the results page I'm able to copy it from there and paste onto a typical slide.
Can not add new buttons on results page
What would you have a button do if you were able to add it? I can be fairly creative with Captivate. I might know a way to insert a button on the results page that will do what you want.
Why do you have to rely on excellent other users to supply things like printing widgets

=====> end of what you said and my inline responses <=====
Keep in mind that Adobe never created Captivate from the beginning. If it had, perhaps what we see today would be a vastly different animal. Maybe better and maybe worse. Hard to say. But I think Adobe has done well with Captivate. Is there room for improvement? Always! That's why Adobe had the foresight to create an avenue for suggesting things and reporting bugs.

  • I am receiving an error message that my Adobe Captivate zip file is not a valid SCORM, AICC or IMS Content Package. What am I doing wrong?

I am receiving an error message that my Adobe Captivate zip file is not a valid SCORM, AICC or IMS Content Package. This zip file has been published identically to my previous zip files. What am I doing wrong?

First, go back into the CPTX source file and check that LMS reporting is indeed turned on and that it is set to SCORM etc.
If that is OK.  Republish and use the Zip option in the Captivate Publish dialog settings to zip the file.  Don't zip it yourself.
If your LMS still rejects this zip file, upload to SCORM Cloud and see if it rejects it too.

  • Error message when publishing from Captivate 4 to MS Word 2003

Is anyone else getting an error message when publishing from Captivate 4 to MS Word 2003?  I tried all 4 types and still get the following:
"An error was encountered while publishing to Word.  Verify the following and try again.  Word is installed on your system.  Word is not busy."
Word is installed on my system and was not in use, so I am not sure why the error.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there
I use Captivate 4 and it publishes to Word 2003 without issues.
Perhaps it has to do with the way your Word 2003 has been installed? Either that or it's a "rights" issue to be addressed by your IT propellerheads?

  • Where can you log a complaint/let the developers of Captivate 5 know there is an issue?

I was on a call with the help desk for 2 hours and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with my project. When I publish it, it seems to publish fine but when I try to view it's just a black screen. I can't tell you everything they were having me do. Finally I decided to take 40 or so screens at a time and dump into a new project and publish. It worked, then another 40 pages, then another etc. and always published fine and I could view the project fine.
Then I copied in 6 pages of PPT and it was fine. My last page to copy in was the 1st page. I always have a graphic and then the title of the project come in as animated text. Publish and it's black. Took out the graphic, still black. Took out the text, everything was fine.
I created a number of different projects just a couple of pages long, had a regular screen, then a page with animimated text and black.
What I surmise is that you cannot have animimated text in a Captive 5 project. I want to let the developers know. I cannot tell you how frustrating this day has been, but at least I finally figured out why my 2 week long project wouldn't publish.

    Greetings,
    I'm having the same issue.
My Captivate project had one slide with animated text. First I tried deleting the animated text from the slide; then I deleted the entire slide from the project. Neither resolved the problem. I even tried removing all animation from the slides. Still no improvement.
My project was created in Captivate 4 and then converted to Captivate 5. Powerpoint was not used at all in the creation of the project. It uses extensive (but fairly basic) animation and video. Animated text is used on one slide only.
I am able to run the published file on another computer with Flash Player Version 10.1.85.3.
Like others, it is not an option for me to revert to a previous version since I cannot control the Flash Player version of my clients and learners.
I'm aware that Adobe is working on this issue and hope that they are able to resolve it VERY quickly. I have offered to share my Captivate file with Adobe if it would expedite problem resolution.
    Kind Regards,
    Sara

  • Getting an Activation Required Message when I launch Captivate

Captivate 5.5 has been installed on my computer for over one year and I just recently have been getting a message each time I open Captivate that reads Activation Required.  I have a valid software license through my company and I am connected to the Internet.  Can you please assist with this issue?  Additionally, I have a colleague with a similar problem who has a different software license for the product.

  • Error messages won't display - Captivate 3

My slides have click boxes with errors attached. Error options are set to Pause for Failure caption.
Click box is postioned on the TOP of the timeline, and should be active, with a caption too, once the voiceover finishes.
Caption and click box displays but when I intentionally click elsewhere the error will not display.
Blue buttons in the RHS panel execute javascript but have no pause and no options defined for them except display for rest of slide.
    Appreciate any suggestions thanks.

No answers here and I am wondering why. I have read past discussions about "Failure captions not displaying" and have noted all
the suggestions but still have not been able to get them working.
Click box is the uppermost (top) item in the timeline...and they are positioned after the slide voiceover so I would have thought there was sufficient time for them to become active.
Getting a little desperate about how to fix this.
    Happy to try anything.
    Regards

  • Captivate crashes after "Runtime error" message

    Captivate v5.5
I am creating question slides and when I clicked to edit the text I got the following error message
The result was Captivate crashed and - of course - I lost my work.
Does anyone know of this issue and what the cause is and how to correct it ?
    Noel

    FYI.....
    Update on this issue
This morning I got some great help from Adobe Tech Support, Priyank Shrivastava.
After his kind help, checking my PC, tweaking some default folders etc I uninstalled and reinstalled Captivate v5.5
Then I created a brand new project, inserted 3 Multi Choice question with default buttons and when I tried to edit the text box I got the same error message as displayed on my initial posting.
Priyank had suggested that if the error happens again, maybe my User Account is corrupt and so I am now waiting for my IT people to create me a new profile to see if this fixes the problem. I dont think it will...dont know why, just dont believe it will.
Unless anyone reading this thread has any suggestions or has had a similar experience - I am at loss what to do.
I cannot work in Captivate now without saving each time I add a single word or after each and every action - so I dont lose my work when Captivate crashes - which it does now on a regular basis
I will inform you of any positive developments.

  • Error message when Importing a slide

    Hello,
Captivate 4 - When importing a slide from one project to another, importing stops in the middle and an error message pops up "Adobe Captivate have encounter a problem and needs to close".   Could it be because the project has been published?  Please advise.

    Hello,
Acrobat.com is a free service from Adobe, where you can store up to 5GB. You just type in the URL (acrobat.com), log in with your Adobe ID (the same you use for these forums) and can start putting files on it. You can share the file (it is in the right-click menu) and send the link to someone. I'll send you a private message with my e-mail address.

  • Errror message: file already exists - overwrite or save as?

When I attempt to open the .cp file that I had previously
worked on today I now get the following series of messages:
    1. C:\Documents and Settings/vsutherl/My Documents\My
    Captivate Projects\game\game2.cp already exists.
Do you want to overwrite the file or save as a new file?
When I select "Overwrite" or a File Save As, I get the
    following message in response:
Adobe Captivate could not open "game2.cp" because it is
either not a supported file type or because the file has been
damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't
    correctly decoded).
This began happening after I attempted to click the game2.exe
file to review the project in its final (stand alone) form but
clicked the .cp file in error, which was already open.
Now all four of the projects (which were clones of each other
with simple text changes for each project) receive the same error
message. I can no longer open any of the source (.cp) files to make
additional changes. This represents *weeks* of work and I cannot
start from scratch to rebuild all four projects - again. I've
already had numerous problems with these projects (per prior posts
    here).
Other projects (totally separate and apart from these 4) open
properly. However when game2.cpgot corrupted it caused all of the
    other gameX.cp files to also receive the same error message;
resulting in not just one file being corrupted but all 4 even
though the problem that was originally encountered was when
attempting to (re-)open game3.cp (while already open).
How can this file corruption be overcome? I am using Windows
    2000 and Captivate 3.
    Help and thanks!
    Vince

Another possibility, I think, is using the wrong version of
    Captivate to
open the course. I see this error, or something similar, if I
    attempt to
open a CP2 file in CP1. Do you have various versions of CP on
    your
computer? Are you sure you're using the proper version to
    open a given file?

  • Error Message of "undefined"

I get the following error message when launching a Captivate
eLearning Course from an LMS. The error message is "undefined".
There is not any error number included. Just an "OK" button. The
course launched just fine from 3 other PC's. My course has 16 video
clips (FLV's) and various Quiz questions. It is published to SCORM
1.2 and is running on a reputable LMS (Rustici Test Track). I am
assuming that the message is related to the javascript that is
trying to find the SCORM API. The word "undefined" is included in
the script. The other puzzling issue is; why does the course launch
fine from 3 PC's and not from a 4th. There ARE some minor
variations in the configuration of the 4 PC's, but they are
    presumed to be minor.
I am not a javascript expert, although I can read and
troubleshoot many of the scripts that are involved in the
SCORM-related script included in a Captivate movie (course).
Has anyone seen this error message when trying to launch from
    a SCORM Compliant LMS?

Thanks for your suggestions from when we talked off-line. I
tried changing some of the launch parameters on the Test Track LMS
and I was able to launch the course from the home PC where I had
seen the error message. I also had the pop-up blocker causing some
issues. I turned that off and was finally able to launch the course
with no errors. Thanks for your help!

  • Fresh Install of Captivate 7 will not Launch

After a new install of Captivate 7 (with no errors) I try to launch the product.  A Sign In Required screen shows and before I can do anything an error message shows saying Adobe Captivate has stopped working.  I click close the program but the Sign In Required still shows.  Wether I try to Sign In or not nothing happens.
I checked the event viewer and see 2 errors for Captivate. 1 says faulting module is AdobePSL.dll and the other says MSCVR100.dll
    Any ideas?
I did try the copy all the fonts and then delete them and try launching CP7.
Also I have a 64 bit version of Windows7 and have installed the 64 bit version of Captivate 7.

  • I'm having trouble with Captivate CS4 the audio won't record (using Vista)

    Hello,
Please help!!!...I've tried the patches outlined in prior question/answers regarding audio recording problems by replacing the nsaudio.dll files as suggested at http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/03/audio_play_back_and_usb_mic_is.html
and used the SubInAcl Windows Registry Tool outlined at http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/03/adobe_captivate_4_installation.html
The issue seems to be resolved at first but inexplicably the audio recording stop working again.
I also noticed that I'm getting error messages regarding the following Captivate files.  NSAudio.dll , Ppsuplo.dll, avi2swf.dll, FullMotionrecorder.dll and WaveEditCtrl.ocx files
What can I do to resolve the recording problems that seem to plague Captivate CS4.   Does Adobe offer any updates to their software to resolve well documented bugs.
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi there
Have you reported these to Adobe support?

The answer here is they certainly do. But updates are sometimes few and far between. And the likelihood of seein an update to address issues such as these is totally dependent on the number of reports Adobe receives about them.
If you haven't, please consider submitting a Bug Report. That will only help increase any chance of seeing an update to fix things.

  • Captivate 6 crashes when trying to create a 1280x720 project.

A few days ago, Captivate began to crash every time I try to create a new 1280x720 project. A non-specific error message displays saying that Captivate encountered a fatal error and the application must close.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling (three times), as well as re-downloading the latest software update, but it does not fix the problem.
Note: I am able to create a project with different dimensions.

Is it possible for you to upload a screenshot of the error?

  • Javascript in Captivate 7

I understand from one of my developers that Captivate 6 has a known bug that causes Javascript inside Captivate to malfunction in IE.  We are doing the scriping in 5.5 for the moment, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if the problem has been fixed in CP7?

Yes, this has been fixed in Cp 7.

  • Anyone use Captivate 2 with Flash 8? I get errors.

Trying to open a Captivate 2 file in Flash 8 brings up an
error message indicating that the Captivate file is probably
corrupted. Tried generating new Captivate 2 files and get the same
message every time. Captivate 1 files will open in Flash. Any
    ideas?

I think that I know what you did. When you had Captive 1 you
changed a dll file in order for it to work with Flash 8. They
forgot to mention that if you did this fix back in 1.0 that it
would corrupt the process in 2.0.
    Go here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<UserID>\Local
    Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash
    8\en\Configuration\Importers
Make sure this is the only file in there: RDMFISTUB8.DLL
    That should solve your problem.
