Messages and facetime all of a sudden quit working

(icloud) imessage and facetime all of a sudden stopped working and advice to how to get it working again?

I had the same problem too. For some reason the phone settings turned them off. For iMessage you have to go to Settings>iMessage and turn it back on. Same for FaceTime, go to Settings>Facetime and turn it back on. Don't know why some peoples stayed on and others, like ours, turned off. Hope this helps

• Have multiple devices associated with one Apple ID: iPod Touch and Ipad Mini stopped sending/receiving iMessages and FaceTime all of a sudden

This is the listing of what we have:
Ipod Touch 4th Gen for daughter
Ipod Touch 5th Gen for another daughter
Ipad 3
Ipad Mini
Iphone 4S
Iphone 4S
For sharing/downloading convenience, all of these are linked to one apple ID. iMessage and FaceTime were working flowlessly when we set it up. Yes, there was a problem initially where some devices were receiving someone else's texts, but they were resolved when I went to Settings and chose a specific # or email address for each DEVICE (so there's no overlapping)
All of a sudden, my daughter's Ipod Touch 4th Gen started having problems sending messges. Sending bar will go up to the end then stop right before it gets completely full--end result, message not delivered. I tried to facetime her, but nothing happens. Sometimes when I try facetiming ipod touch 4th, I'd get an error message '____ is not available for FaceTime'
I've confirmed the email address associated with ipod Touch 4 has been added and verified under my apple ID. I've tried restoring the iPod in iTunes, hard resetting the unit, turning off and on iMessage/FaceTime... and still doesn't work.
All our software is up to date. By the time I started thinking maybe ipod touch 4th gen is getting old, my husband's newly bought ipad MINI started having the same problem.
This is really frustrating---help?

We're screwwwwwed! Not THAT familiar to apple, just barely plugging along and dove in with two ipads and two ipod touches. Previous experience was just two ipods (160 GB) that I had to still rotate audio books out of every few months... well, for me. My wife doesn't use hers as much. ANYWAY, I lost a zillion things with the ipod classic since it didn't have a back-up option and many of the CDs I scrounged up when it first came out were already lucky to have survived college. 8 years later and the computer that had the original files had been replaced umpteen times. ipods failed and decided to quit being a tight wad. Not sure if these gifts are worth it yet.... well, two of them were.

• Messages and FaceTime just won't activate on my iPad Air all of a sudden; tried a LOT of solutions

About two weeks ago, my iPad Air was spontaneously signed out of Messages and FaceTime when I was using it to browse the web while on the bus, connected via Personal Hotspot on my iPhone. Since then, I haven’t been able to sign in to either Messages or FaceTime. I can still sign in to my iCloud account as normal for other things like contact and bookmark syncing. It’s just Messages and FaceTime that refuse to activate.
The error messages I receive vary between the following:
“An error occurred during activation. Try again."
“Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."
“Verification failed - The connection to iCloud timed out."
“Unable to contact the iMessage server. Try again."
This iPad Air is a replacement from Apple (quite possibly a refurbished one) that I received in November 2014, after the previous model developed a malfunctioning touchscreen in one corner. It’s worth mentioning that my iPhone and Mac are completely unaffected by any issues, and can also be signed in and out of Messages and FaceTime without a hitch.
I’ve tried an awful lot of things in an attempt to get Messages and FaceTime to sign in successfully on the iPad Air, none of which have worked, and many of which I have tried multiple times.[1]
Things I have tried in an attempt to activate Messages and FaceTime
connecting to different wifi in multiple locations (work and home) and Personal Hotspot from iPhone
signing into Messages and FaceTime with different Apple IDs (these won’t activate Messages and FaceTime either)
wiping iPad with normal restore
wiping iPad with DFU restore
resetting network settings (both after fresh install and after backup restore)
restoring from an October 2014 backup (still have to sign into Messages and FaceTime, still don’t work)
turning off the automatic timezone setting and setting the date and time manually, even though it was correct anyway
deselecting phone number and @me.com so purely using @icloud.com to sign in
running the activation process through VPN connections via London and New York
changing DNS on wifi to 8.8.8.8
updating to iOS 8.2 beta 4
I would love to hear from anybody who can provide the solution as to why Messages and FaceTime just won’t activate. Apple won't provide free support on this as the iPad is now out of warranty.

• Messages and FaceTime failing

Everytime I connect to messages and FaceTime I'm faced with these two errors "There was a problem with Messages. You need to quit and open Messages again." and There was a problem with FaceTime. You need to quit and open FaceTime again.
It was fine when I first installed Yosemite so something has happened. I have removed all preferences to do with these items but it still fails. Everything is ok on my other mac, this just affects my macbook pro.
I'm also getting these errors in console which are linked but I don't know where to go from here so any help would be very appreciated.

Hi,
IMAgent may be the issue.
It certainly is the support app that "listens" to the servers of all the account you have that are active in Messages for new messages.
If the app is Quit then it will launch the app (unless your set the "When I Quit, set Messages to Off line" setting).
SOAgent was added to the support structure for Messages for the Sandboxed version in Mavericks.
Nothing in those Console messages indicate it cannot be found.

• Messages and FaceTime not working

Messages and FaceTime on my MacBook Pro OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 are no longer working. When opened an error message saying an internal error occurred and messages/FaceTime should be quit and reopened appears. I've tried this and the same message appears. I can't open preferences for messages or FaceTime now and have tried other trouble shooting recommended. I can still use both on my iPad and iPhone with the same iCloud account.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test iMessage while in safe mode. FaceTime won't work. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

• I have two Iphones with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID. Will that cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

I have two Iphones 5 with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID account. Both are using IOS 8.
I would like to set up a new Apple Id for one of the phones and remove it from the old account.
If I do that, can I move all of the purchased apps and songs to the new Apple account?
Also, will sharing one Apple ID account with two devices cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address). While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud. You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.

• Why won't the messages and facetime app work?

I refuse to believe that the only fix for this is to do all the behind the scenes stuff to change out certain aspects of apps. I would think that because messages and facetime come built into 10.8.2. I believe that it is on apple's shoulders to fix this with an update or maybe just an updated messages and facetime app.

I had my messages and facetime in a folder inside applications, once I copied and pasted the new apps into the folder and clicked replace, they worked just fine, maybe some of you have done the same thing!

• It all of a sudden stopped working and when I try to click on something my computer just beeps at me. I cant even exit imovie

My imovie all of a sudden stopped working when I was in the middle of making a project and then all of a sudden when I tried to click on something my computer just beeped at me. I cant even exit out of the program! Or shut down my computer unless I quit imovie. Help?!?!

• How do I get my I message and FaceTime to activate on the iPhone 5s

How do I get my I message and FaceTime to activate on the iPhone 5s?

settings>messages>turn on
settings>facetime>turn on
if those dont work then go to settings>general>Reset>reset all settings
-Nothing will be deleted, you just have to go through the setup process again, setup as new ipad/iphone/ipod do not restore from back up, sign in with your apple id, and you should be good to go just make sure that both facetime and imessage are turned on

• Messaging and facetime phone number issues

I have an iPhone 3 for work, an iPhone 4S that's my personal phone on my Apple ID and a macair and my iPad(I use one ID for all devices) I don't use facetime on the iphone3 but I do have message sync turned on. The iPhone 3 did have phone my work and personal cell associated. But it just updated and now only recognizes my work number.
I have checked my Apple ID. I only have personal number on it which is the phone number associated with the iPhone 4S. None on my other devices recognizes the iphone4 number as the number to use for messaging and facetime.
I do not want my computer or iPad to reference my work phone number but I can't find a way to get the settings to update any ideas?

Never mind. I finally got it to work. For those with similar issue. Turn off messaging and facetime on all devices. Then turn back on for all devices with iPad being last to turn on.

• HT3529 Im getting his messages and facetime requests. Recently others are receiving messages from my daughters iphone and its appearing as my sons itouch. Help!

I set up my son's ipod touch on my apple ID. Recently, I've been receiving all his imessages as well as facetime requests. I don't want to have his messages and he can see mine. ICloud is not activated. Additionally, my daughter, who has a seperate apple ID but does you same computer for itunes and pulls songs from my ID, is having her messages show up to others as if its coming from my son's itouch. I'm not sure what to do at this point but I don't want visibility of my text/imessages on his touch. How do I remedy this problem?

On each different devices go to:
- Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and
- Settings FaceTime and look at the email address, Apple ID and phone number (If present)
A phone number only appears if the same Apple iD is used on an iPhone with iOS 6
You do not want the same email address and phone number one different devices.
Best is to use for Messages and Facetime a different Apple ID

• Help! My MacBook is all of a sudden not working. I can login to my account but as soon as I do that the screen goes completely white. I can change the volume and I have a mouse but that is it. I've tried safe starting my computer and that doesn't work.

Help! My MacBook is all of a sudden not working past the login page. A white screen comes up that I cannot get rid of. I attempted a safe start up and that failed as well. It's a white screen where I have a mouse and when I click the volume buttons I can hear it working but nothing else just white. Please help.

Something you can try is resetting it all Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings. Or go to Settings > Store & sign out & log back in. Another thing you can do is restore your ipod. This has happened to me but the only thing i did was that i created a new account but try doing the things above i just told you. :)

• Apps open and close all of the sudden

Ok, my iphone was working fine until 10 minutes ago. I had no issues with it and all of the sudden, I tried opening up an app and all it will do is just open and close all of the sudden. And it's with ALL apps! I tried doing everything there is to do to solve the issue and nothing. I even followed someone's post about downloading a free app and nothing. I have tried restoring it, doing the sleep/wake and home button till apple logo comes up, and turning it off normally, and even re-syncing to computer and NOTHING! What should I do?

Download another free App - doesn't matter which one.
Sync and then hold down the Home and top button until the phone switches of completely.
Restart the phone and you should be fine - you did nothing wrong but its a sign of a bad sync.
You're not the first so enjoy !
