Messages.app can't connect to AIM/GChat/FB Jabber, AIM.app works
Since updating to 10.8 on my 2011 MBP, I've had a ton of trouble with Messages.app . It seems to work consistently from home on a Frontier DSL behind a 2003-era Airport Extreme. However on my business network (Comcast, behind Sonicwall TZ170 & Windows 2003 SBS server), connection is inconsistent at best. This morning, I'd left my MBP logged in & sleeping from home, and plugged in at work. Messages remained logged in to AIM, GChat & Facebook via Jabber. However, after a restart, those services will not reconnect.
Messages lost the connection to the AIM account “xxxx”. A network error occurred.
Messages lost the connection to the Google Talk account “xxxxx”. A network error occurred.
Following other tips on here, I've dumped a variety of .plist files, removed my accounts & added again, set preferences to use separate Buddy lists, and checked/unchecked/checked again the use SSL options. This started to feel like a DNS issue. But, I'm running XPsp3 via VirtualBox, and that computer's AIM & Yahoo connections on Trillian work just fine. Then I downloaded & installed the official AIM.app, and it also connected without issue. I can ping each of those hosts from the command line.
Before upgrading, I had been using iChat on 10.4/10.5/10.6/10.7 with those account without problem. Strangely, Bonjour rarely connected under those configurations but does now every time. iMessages work properly.
Hi,
The default GoogleTalk login is on port 5223 as it is a Jabber SSL login.
However it can be made to work on port 443 (with SSL Left On)
Log out of the GoogleTalk account in the Messages > Preferences > Accounts > Google option > Account info tab
In the Server Setting Tab you can now change the port to 443
This is likely to help where the Connection to the Internet only allows default ports.
The AIM login in Messages is now on port 443 (regular posters have been saying use this since iChat 3)
It also changed the server name from iChat 6 to api.oscar.aol.com
Adium still uses the older login.oscar.aol.com In earlier versions of iChat this gained a leading "s" when using SSL
By default most domestic routers will have ports up to 1024 open (allows Web Browsing Secures logins and Mail plus FTP) - there are 65355 ports in all and some of the ports used for Logins in Messages and Video or Audio chatting are above this 1024 threshold.
I am a little surprised that the computer stayed logged in as you changed networks.
If not using SSL it is likely the AIM one was dropped and Automatically reconnected.
If the app is supposed to start when the computer does then there could be issues if the network is not established by the time Messages has finished Launching.
The fact the Bonjour Account is connecting means it is not the DNS issue.
Bonjour relies on mDSN (multicast DNS) and this in turn need DNS to be working.

Hi,
I can't connect to my iMessage account with the Messages application from my Mac ( 10.8.5)
I am retyping my user/password - which works for my other Apple services ( iCloud, iTunes store,...) but the Messages app can't connect.
Also, the FaceTime application can't connect either.
Thanks,for the Points.

trying to to make an in app purchase. Everytime I get a message saying can't connect to iTunes store
Hello Cpsbcs,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning in-app purchase issues:
If you don’t see your in-app purchases
Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to make the purchase. Sign in with a different Apple ID if you need to.
Check the restrictions on your device to make sure in-app purchases are allowed.
Check your purchase history in iTunes on your computer to make sure you were charged for the purchase.
Restart your device.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,

I am running Lion (OS X 10.7.4) and trying to reinstall iLife06, a .mpkg file, using Installer.app. I get a message "You can't open the application iLife06.mpkg because PowerPC apps are no longer supported." Is there a work around?? Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.
The only workaround would be to purchase the current version of iLife apps from the App Store.
Lion doesn't support the old PowerPC architecture anymore, which is what iLife '06 was written for.
If the internal apps are universal, right-click on the mpkg and choose Show Contents. Then, dig through and run the specific installer package for each application. -
I have an IMAC, Mountain Lion. Each time I open my mail, a message box appears with the message Mail can't connect to the account "Google", followed by Enter the password for the user *****@gmail.com. The full account that appears is an account that I had previously deleted. I cannot prevent the message box from appearing. What do I have to tweak in order for this annoying box to keep reappearing. I have deleted everything I know of in Google mail and my IMAC mail. Thanks for any feedback
From the Mail menu bar, select
Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Look for the unwanted SMTP (outgoing mail) account in the window that opens. Double-click it. Another window will open, showing a list of all the outgoing mail accounts. The unwanted one will be selected. Click the minus-sign button to delete it, then click OK.
If there's more than one unwanted account, repeat. -

I keep getting this message: Mail can't connect to the account: "Sbcglobal". Enter the password... So I do and it opens up, but later it will happen again. It's not earth-shattering, but I keep having to stop what I'm doing to get rid of the annoying bouncing Mail icon.
If your password is accepted, and Mail connects to the account, but you're prompted for the password repeatedly, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Note: these steps don't apply if the server rejects the password. That's a different problem.
Step 1
When prompted for the password, check the box marked Remember this password in my keychain.
Step 2
Check that the keychain is working.
Step 3
Check that the default keychain is unlocked. -
Having trouble connecting to safari. I found this happened when I last did my software update. I am getting message ' safari can't connect to the server'. My Internet connection appears to be fine.
Have you tried a different website, or just one?

Hello, I'm trying to install on my Ifhone emoji free, but I get a message saying "Can not connect to itunes store", what can I do?
Restart your modem, router (if you use one), and Mac. Then try again.
If the problem remains, consider http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
(This problem has nothing to do with iSight. Therefore, I have asked
that the Hosts move your topic to iTunes where you may get better help.)

When trying to download an app, I get the "can not connect to itunes store" in spite of being signed in. What is blocking this?
You will need to contact iTunes Support, which you can do so via this link and ask them why the message is appearing (we are fellow users on these forums, we won't know why the message is appearing) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

Could you provide the community with a little more information to help narrow troubleshooting? What operating system are we using?

Annoying mail app "can't connect" pop ups
Whenever I have bad 3G signal and I open the mail app I get lots and lots of network error pop ups from each of my email accounts. They are really annoying. Can they be turned off? Could Apple eliminate them definitely? Please!
Remember - these accounts are working over SSL with Thunderbird and in Mail.app on an old machine that I just set up mail on after these problems began. That said, the exact message for the SMTP connections is:
Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account -
