In the Terminal window, type this:

Select
 ▹ Restart

  • Can't send email attachments since upgrade to 10.9.2.

After upgrading to 10.9.2, I can no longer add email attachments (PDF, .ai, .eps, etc.). When I do I get a reply mail from Postmaster (Using Outlook) that says "Undeliverable Mail" due to being in MIME format. I have NO idea what this means, but I had NO issues ever before Tuesday.
This message is in MIME format. Since your mail reader does not understand
this format, some or all of this message may not be legible.

MacKeeper may well be the root cause of your issues, remove it completely, reboot and try again.

  • How I fixed the "can't send e-mail after upgrade to 10.5.6" problem

Like many of you I couldn't send e-mail after the upgrade. After trying everything including re-install combo update, delete and resetting profile, etc. the thing that made it work was:
    1. custom set the outgoing server port number to 25 (for Verizon, ask your ISP the output port number)
    2. ensure the password authentication is set for outgoing e-mail.
Goto account setting, "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)", select "Edit Server list"
Under "Account Information" make sure "Description" is blank (as suggested in other posts)
Under "Advance Information", select Use Custom Port: type in the port number
On Authentication, select password, type in user name and password as in "incoming Mail Server"
Save it and test if it works.
It seems selection of the default outgoing port has some problems, even though 15 is one of the three defaults.

I just switched to Roadrunner and am having the same "can't send email" problem. I have done what you suggested, but the problem persists. I did note that in my outgoing mail server box it says: smtp-server.wi.rr.com:jzelinger3 (Offline). I'm not sure where the "Offline" is coming from or why it is there. Any suggestions? I performed the following Terminal tests with a tech. support person from Roadrunner:
Last login: Wed Jan 21 19:36:52 on console
    CPE-75-86-226-41:~ joan$ telnet pop-server.wi.rr.com 110
    Trying 71.74.56.78...

    Escape character is '^]'.
    +OK POP3 server ready.
    user [email protected]
    +OK please send PASS command
    pass laikatess
+OK [email protected] is welcome here
    telnet smtp-server.wi.rr.com 25
-ERR Invalid command; valid commands: CAPA, DELE, LIST, LAST, NOOP, RETR, RSET, STAT, TOP, UIDL or QUIT
    This is very frustrating.

  • Mail app constantly synching with iCloud server after upgrade to Mavericks

Since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail has been constantly synching with the iCloud server - and I mean constantly. I know this because I have the Activity window open. Consequently there is often a significant lag between clicking Send on a new message and it being sent, or new messages being downloaded. I have another iMac at my office and the same problem is being experienced there.
I left the computer running all night to see if it would eventually sych everything, but it seems to be going in a constant cycle ever since the upgrade.
If it means anything to anyone, the Console window displays a continuous stream of data similar to this:
    9:24:37.448 am fseventsd[48]: implementation_added_client : failed to add client for path /Users/Kevin/Library/Mail/V2/AosIMAP-kbish…
    9:24:37.449 am fseventsd[48]: implementation_register_rpc: implementation_added_client() => 22
    9:24:39.808 am fseventsd[48]: implementation_added_client : failed to add client for path /Users/Kevin/Library/Mail/V2/AosIMAP-kbish…
    9:24:39.809 am fseventsd[48]: implementation_register_rpc: implementation_added_client() => 22
Can anyone offer any advice on what the problem might be and how I might fix it.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

No solution here, but I have either the same or a similar problem. Apple Mail with Gmail (IMAP) used to work fine with Mavericks.
Now with Yosemite most emails load ok, but some show the spinning wheel and "Loading..." message forever. These messages never load.
I also have Thunderbird and it loads and shows these messages just fine. The messages that don't load in Mail are simple plain text messages so it's unrelated to complex attachments and such.
Clearly something is broken in Yosemite that wasn't broken in Mavericks.

  • Can't start any program after upgrading to Mavericks from Mountain Lion.

After upgrading my Macbook Pro from Mountain Lion to Mavericks, I can't start any program from the dock or finder.  The screen flashes briefly gray, then returns to the desktop.  I repairded permissions from the recovery partition.

No need to repair permissions from the recovery partition. You can do that using the Disk Utility app located in HD > Applications > Utilities.
As for the issues with your Mac. Check to see if the startup disk needs reparing. (not the same as permissions)
The startup disk may need repairing ...
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to acces the built in utilities in  OS X Recovery
Make sure to back up all important files first before using OS X Recovery.

  • I can't update my iPhoto after upgrading to Maverick

I just upgraded to Mavericks and ever since, my iPhoto (v. 9.2) will not work. It has a grey circle with a line through it over the application. I do see in my app store I have an update for iPhoto 11, but when I try to upgrade it and enter my apple ID, I get this error message. I only have this one apple ID and password, so I have no idea why it is saying this. I am so scared I've lost my photos!!!
    Error message reads:
Update Unavailable with this Apple ID:
This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.
I do not understand this or what to do. I have not ever tried to purchase this previously.
    PLEASE HELP!!

You must log into th eApp store using the Apple ID that was used to set up the computer
If that is not working then you must contact App store support - link is on the right of the app store windw

  • Can't access serial tty after upgrading to mavericks

Was programming arduino boards on Mac mini under mountain lion but since upgrading to mavericks no longer can see the serial tty ports. Can anyone help?

I am having a similar issue with the Arduino Leonardo board. I am running Mavericks and was connecting to the tty.usbmodem programatically just fine (I was using it with the previous os too; I'm guessing some sort of caching that still enabled it to work?).
    At some point during my programming, the board had issues recieving data so I switched to a different (physical) usb port. After some debugging and rebooting, the tty.usbmodem is no longer listed as an option in the Arduino editor, nor is it listed in the terminal via ls /dev/cu.*; ls /dev/tty.*;
The post you linked to mentions updating the FTDI driver. Mavericks didn't let me install it because it was "from an unidentified developer".
This thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19621554/dev-tty-serial-missing-in-macos-10-9 -mavericks seems related to this issue.

  • Can't send e-mail after upgrading to Leopard

I recently upgraded my OSX from Tiger to Leopard. When I log into my Mail account, everything appears to be working fine; I can receive mail, compose messages, etc. But the "Send" button is grayed out. I don't get any prompts asking for permission to send -- it's simply not an available option. Is this fixable, or do I need to re-install?

From the Mail menu, select "Preferences". Hit the Accounts tab. Select the Account. Under Account Information, reapply the user name and password.
Check with the provider if the account needs authentication. This is in the Advanced tab. Usually just a repeat of user name and password.

  • Can't find email attachments after upgrading my ipad to IOS 7.1

I use my ipad onstage for song lyrics and set order. I compose and edit the song lyric sheets in Word on my PC, email the files to myself as attachments, and open them in Word on my ipad. Until this morning, I had no problem doing this. After I upgraded to IOS 7.1 this morning, my emails on my ipad (latest version) all have the attachment paperclip greyed out. Does anyone know what setting to adjust so I can access them again??

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • Can't find a folder after upgrading to maverick and still have the previous OS

    Hi,
Last night I upgraded my mac to maverick...my previous OS was in Disk C and since it was showing that disk is full i had to put maverick in disk D..so i have two disks with OS that means less space for my personal use....also while putting maverick in D I already had a folder containing movies in it...When i am searching in spotlight i can get the movie but am not able to find it without it....Also how do i get rid of the previous OS and should i do that??

    ishica ghosh,
it sounds like what you’re calling your Mac’s internal space is what I’d call your Mac’s internal hard drive, and what you’re calling your three separate disks are what I’d call three partitions of your internal hard drive.
Let’s begin by approaching these aspects one at a time. On my Mac’s internal drive, only 22 GB of space is being used in total, including Mavericks and perhaps a dozen apps. If your Disk C has been sized to be 119 GB but it is mostly filled up, then it seems as though you must have significantly more apps or data installed there than just your old OS. Do you have more than one administrative user and one standard user under your old OS?
Here’s something that you can try to find out the amount of space that is being used by the user accounts on Disk C: boot into the old OS by holding down an Option key as you power up, use your cursor keys to select the OS on Disk C, and press the Return key. Log in as its administrative user, and from the Finder press Command-Shift-U to open the Utilities folder. Run Terminal.app in that folder. Within the Terminal window, give it the following command:
    sudo du -sm /Users/*
This command will ask you for a password; give it the administrative user’s password. The password will not be displayed as you type it. Please copy the output from this command into your reply.

  • Can't access my Aperture after upgrading to Mavericks

I currently have Snow Leopard. Yesterday I updated to Mavericks but found I could not access Aperture. The message said Aperture 3 2 4 was not accessible. Having no idea how to solve the problem I restored Snow Leopard.
I then tried to update my Aperture but with no success. Each time a message came through that I needed to be on a newer version of OSX.
I'd be very grateful for any advice on how to update to Mavericks and keep my Aperture library.

  • Can't enable Device Manager after upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite

We have an Apple Mac Mini Server that was purchased and configured with OS X 10.9. This was configured as part of a golden triangle, managing 10 Apple Mac Minis in a Microsoft Active Directory environment. We had enabled Profile Manager and configured Device Manager.
We recently upgraded to Yosemite, and upgraded Server.app to 4.0.3. Device Manager is now disabled, can when we try and configure it, we get 'An error with code -1 occurred'. We have tried resetting the Device Manager configuration, but this hasn't fixed the issue.
    Any suggestions?

  • IPhoto pictures hidden after upgrading to mavericks??? help me find

    Hey
I updated to mavericks & my iphoto does not work.
I did back up beforehand. But I see my photos & video from previous iphoto still are taking up space on my computer.
The only thing is I can not access them or find. I have searched .mov & .jpeg. & nothing.
Does anyone know if there is a special folder or search.
    Much thanks.
    - c

what version of iPhoto did you have? if it was iPhoto 7 or earlier then you need to download and run the library upgrader then launch the new iPHoto
If it was iPhoto '08 or later then Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
