Messages App| connectivity issues since upgrading to Mavericks
is anyone having problems since upgrading to Mavericks with connectivity issues in the "Messages" app? Im on a 2011 MacBook Pro. I will start a desktop share session with my folks (IMAC) and within 2-3 minutes of having access to their desktop, I'm unable to control any longer and their system freezes.
HI,
When iChat 3 came out someone tested whether it would work on the platform that was running iChat 2 and also tested whether iChat 2 would work on the later OS.
This eventually led to the Reinstall procedure for iChat 3 up to the iChat 5 version.
Since then the app has required either a Backup version from when it was working, a copy on another machine running the same OS and app version numbers (the two go hand in hand) or you have to Reinstall the whole OS which will always update you to the latest version of the OS (and in the case of Messages any updates it has had).

Proxy Issues since upgrading to Mavericks
I use my Mac Mini (Model 5,1 Core i5, 2.3GHz) at work and run windows using VMWare. Since upgrading to Mavericks I cannot get OSX to connect to the proxy server. I am using the same settings as I used in Mountain Lion, which worked fine. I do not have any problems with Windows connecting.
I can see the internal network, access files and printers, but cannot get through the proxy server to the internet. Oddly enough Dropbox on the Mac works fine through the proxy server so I have to think its a problem in Mavericks.
I have tried changing settings including manually entering proxy info for all protocols under network settings.
Unfortunately the IT guys only support Windows (which is working) so I am on my own on the Mac side.
Anyone else having a problem or have a solution (besides waiting for an update)? One of the users just upgraded and is having this issue as well. I told him to use Firefox as that browser has no problems. This is a workaround at best as the Apple Store is still inaccessable. I believe the problem lies with Safari's implementation of SSL as normal http:// sites load, albeit very slowly. Any sites that use https:// are unavailable.

FontBook issues since upgrading to Mavericks
Since upgrading to mavericks when i try to install new typefaces (.otf, work perfectly on my other computers which are running on mountain lion). They do not show up in font book. Even when I manually add them to the Fonts folder, they still do not show up in Font Book or any of my applications. As a graphic designer, this is obviously a huge issue for me.
Not to mention, this isn't the only problem I have since upgrading. For example all of my adobe programs are suddenly riddled with bugs (issues resizing assets, drop down menus dissapear, etc). I have been trying to trouble shoot several issues for a while now with no solutions. All of the problems I have seem to be experienced by other users. It's very frustrating to me that the new OS is so buggy. I have never had this problem before when upgrading products. One of the users just upgraded and is having this issue as well. I told him to use Firefox as that browser has no problems. This is a workaround at best as the Apple Store is still inaccessable. Messages crashes upon opening since upgrading to Mavericks
Haven't been able to find any solutions in the previous discussions about this, so I'm gonna try asking again.
I don't know if it helps, but my upgrade to Mavericks from Mountain Lion didn't go smoothly, so I had to completely reinstall Mavericks and load info from a Time Machine backup.
Also, Preview crashes as soon as I open a file. It'll open, but as soon as I try to open a file, it crashes too.
I've checked with other user accounts, and I get the same behaviour.

Database connectivity issues since upgrading to 2011
I have several reports that were created in CR 2008. Since upgrading to 2011, none of them connect to the SQL server when I try to refresh the data. The error message says invalid logon. I can get the reports to refresh if I follow this process:
1. Close the report
2. Delete connections to the SQL server
3. Close CR
4. Open CR
5. Create a new blank report and connect to the same data source as the failed report
6. Open the report that was failing
7. Refresh the data
Everything works at that point. Once I close CR, next time I access the report I have to go through the entire process again. Saving the reports after successfully establishing a connection does not fix the issue. I have reset the data source location from the database menu as well as established new system and file DSNs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
DarrenHi Darren,
What I meant for version of CR 2011 is to click on Help About... you'll see the version number there.
Interesting, So if it fails in the ODBC Admin test then of course it's going to fail in CR Designer, CR simply uses what connection info you specify in the DSN or in the file. If you can get the DSN to work non-kerberose then adding that configuration to your File DSN should allow CR to work also.
Couple of possibilities, Older versions of CR ignored the security configuration, or at least this one test, and it was fixed in CR 2011, or possibly the File DSN needs to have the security type enabled through the connection property. Check MS for help on what the info in the line is to enable it.
Another possible solution is according to this MS Kbase they recommend that you use Kerberose...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909801
So the result is, Set Kerberose on the Server or find out how MS will support non-kerberose security client side and see if that works. But because MS recommends using it discuss with your DBA and recommend to all to enable it and use it.
Thanks again

Messages App Connectivity Issues
I have been having loads of issues with the Messages App. This one revolves around its tendency to spontaneously stop sending and receiving messages. An example of this goes as follows.
My friend (with MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion) and I will be chatting using the Messages App. Everything seems to be working fine. However, if we stop talking for more than about 5 minutes or so, my messages stop getting "Delivered" (as I have read receipt on). His messages stop coming through. Sometimes they will go to our phones, but not always. Once I regain connectivity (usually through quitting and restarting messages), all of the messages come through at once. It is becoming increasingly frustrating to both of us that this App seems to spontaneously decide when to work and when not to work.
Anyone else experiencing this?HI,
Any one router can handle 255 other devices other than itself.
That means if there are more than 255 students and teachers you have to get a second router (or more).
This can mean that as you move about you are hopping between routers. This increases the chances of being "dropped" by the whole set up.
Depending on the number of employees at your work and how much you move about between any routers may see the same sort of issues arise.
Part of the issue could be how IP address are allocated.
When you join a network you get an IP from the router.
You are what is called "leased" that IP number.
The default period for many router is 24 hours. As long as you rejoin within that period you should get the same IP.
Issues can arise when the router's timing of a lease period and a computer's timing don't match and two computers try to use the same IP. Both would normally get a message pop up telling them so.
Getting kicked of the network silently (no error message) is somewhat less likely.
Are you having issues with other apps that go On line, particularly Web Browsers ?

Connectivity issues since upgrading to Snow Leopard
Hello folks. Sorry to dredge up bad memories, but I upgraded my old MacBook Pro (2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) from 10.5.8 to 10.6.3. AirportX firmware update ran at the same time, now my network shows as connected, but I can't connect to mail or Internet. It was supposed to be an interim step so I could go to a more current o/s via online download, but obviously that's not an option right now.
The Airport is green, I show as having a connection to the network, but nothing works. I've restarted both MacBook and Airport, reinstalled SL, still nothing. There's no antivirus on board, and no sharing set up, which I gather were common issues back when the rest of you were encountering this issue back in 2009... Didn't occur to me it wouldn't have been patched long since.
Any suggestions?Same problem here - the MobileMe sync never completes. I've checked syncing from my iPhone back to the Me.com web site, and that is fine. So the problem seems to be between my newly-upgraded 10.6 Mac and the MobileMe "cloud."
Best I can tell, the hangup is with calendar sync. Here's what the Console log tells me:
8/29/09 9:20:30 AM com.apple.syncservices.SyncServer[2162] 2009-08-29 09:20:30.085 iCalExternalSync[2183:903] [ICalExternalSync ]The sync server failed to let client iCal pull changes
And the mobilemesync.log says this:
2009-08-29 09:25:20:858|35a2b00|Error|Sync cancelled for dataclass com.apple.Calendars while merging changes in Sync Engine: Session <ISyncConcreteSession: 0x10274b8f0> cancelled. lost connection to SyncServer
Could it just be traffic? That seems unlikely.
I've already tried to "Reset Sync Data" under "Advanced" in the MobileMe Sync preferences - I told the sync to replace everything on my computer with info from MobileMe. That didn't fix the problem.
My last successful sync was right before my upgrade from 10.5.8!
Ideas?

Macbook Pro WiFi connectivity issues since updating to Mavericks
I upgraded to the Mavericks OSX 10.9.1 and started seeing WiFi issues. The issues seem to happen when I have to wake up the system after closing the lid. I have an Airport Extreme router
I have been having the same problem. When my MacBook Pro running 10.9.1 (Mavericks) wakes up from sleep, whether from shutting the lid or inactivity, the Wi-Fi seaches for a network, but won't reconnect to my known home Wi-Fi network. When I try to select my network from the menu at the top-right of the screen, I get an error message after about 10 seconds saying that the network is unavailable. If I turn off Wi-Fi and turn it back on twice, I can then reconnect to my home Wi-Fi network. This is a very annoying problem. Please fix it in 10.9.2.

Performance issues since upgrade
I am on a late 2011 MacBook Pro and am having severs performance issues since upgrading to Mavericks. I fear my issues may be related to company installed anti-virus (which I cannot remove), but I was hoping someone could look over my EtreCheck for other potential solutions.
One really odd issue I am having, which I cannot seem to find good information for on Google, is at least 4-5 times a day my Mac just stops. No beach ball, no anything, for about 1-5 minutes. Then it's fine. Maybe just me grasping at straws, but it seems related to a when webpage loads a bunch of images? I always use Safari btw, but testing other browsers, like Chrome & Firefox, it happens as well.
I have also removed TotalFinder and have noticed no improvement and still have the above issue.
Thanks in advance!
Here is my EtreCheck:

Since upgrading to Mavericks I am finding that I am lucky to get 2 hours (when connected to WiFi) of use from my Macbook Pro. I have turned off Bluetooth ( which was not an issue previously), uninstalled Chrome, again not an issue before I upgraded, and have not seen any improvement.
I was using an older OS system (Snow Leopard) on my 2010 Macbook Pro. I am wondering now if the upgrade was an unwise move?jbuckworth,
which apps do you run under battery power? Are any of them identified as “apps using significant energy” when you click on the battery icon in the menu bar? If you have a 15-inch or 17-inch model, are your apps using the discrete GPU (which consumes more power than the integrated GPU)?
How many charge cycles has your battery accumulated?
How long have you had Mavericks installed? Is Spotlight still reïndexing your boot drive? (It does that whenever your OS is upgraded, because so many files change in an OS upgrade.) -
AFP won't connect since upgrading to Mavericks
Since upgrading to Mavericks I cannot connect to my QNAP TS-210 via AFP; this means my Time Machine can no longer find my backup disk and no longer works. Anyone else having similar issues?
I have tried the usual quick fixes:
Firmware is up to date
All OS updates installed
Server reset
DHCP renewed
DHCP switched to try manual setup
IP changed on server and Mac
It's odd as when connecting to server I can enter my login ID and it seems to be validating it ok but then doesnt connect to the server at all?
Any suggestions welcome!Use a supported Time Machine configuration.
OS X Mountain Lion: Disks you can use with Time Machine
"Note: Some AFP disks from manufacturers other than Apple don’t support Time Machine. If your network uses an AFP disk, but the disk doesn’t appear in the list of devices available for Time Machine backups, contact the disk’s manufacturer."
Your complaint is very common with NAS devices. Some work and some don't. If they appear to work, they may fail upon attempting to restore from the backup, or they may fail every time Apple updates OS X. Given the goal of a backup strategy, using anything other than a supported TM configuration is not an option. -
Since upgrading to Mavericks, I have been unable to sync devices (specifically ipad mini and iphone 4s) to my MId 2013 Imac . They wil rapidly connect and disconnect, and I'm unable to do anything with the device. This happens with both USB ports. Any suggestions?
MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.9.1)Obviously, syncing an iOS device with iTunes over USB is still supported in Mavericks. Calendar and contact syncing with iTunes is no longer supported. That has nothing to do with your problem.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

TS3977 Issue with extended display using Displaylink USB to DVI since upgrading to Mavericks.
I have an issue now since upgrading to Mavericks with my extended display monitor using a displaylink DVI to USB adapter. After awhile, the monitor goes blank. I can unplug the connection from the USB port and plug it back in and the display comes back, only to go out again a short time later.
It worked fine for months prior to the upgrade.
Apple say it's Dispalylink's problem and Displaylink says it's Apple's problem. Anyone else having this or a similar isssue?Someone opened a bug report with Apple in another thread - about a different product that used DisplayLink drivers, and Apple blamed the vendor.
I have many issues too. Crashing Window Manager, and once it crashed my Mac.
I also have many issues... one is corrupt display. The icons are missing in the menubar on my laptop, and squished together on my external monitor:
They are there if I mouse over, but invisible.
I can't click on the squished ones, they are to close. -
Since upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite Mail, Spotlight, Mission Control and App-Store don´t work correctly. Is it possible to return to Mavericks?
If you have an external drive with an OS X Time Machine backup, then do restore of your last backup. If you have an external drive with a bootable clone of your previous system, you can boot to that clone and re-clone the OS X on your external drive back to your Mac's internal drive.
If you do not have either of these available, then the reverting/restoring process becomes much more complicated and involves purchasing an external drive and backing up your current system to that drive, then erasing, reformatting your hard drive and now your only options to installng an OS X version is doing a clean install of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, then upgrading, again, to either OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion. OS X 10.9 Mavericks is no longer available for download and Apple has not made OS X 10.9 Mavericks available in any other form to be able to redownload and install.
Maybe it would be better to explain in detail your issues with Yosemite to see if any of us here can help you with your difficulties.
I am not running or using Yosemite, so I cannot help you with your Yosemite issues,
There are others here who can help you with Yosemite.
Good Luck. -
Since upgrading to maverick on my macbook, I have lost my wi-fi wireless connection to my airport time capsule and it won't let me turn it back on. All of my other comupers are working fine. My daughter upgraded her macbook pro at the same time and it is working fine. Does anyone know how to fix the problem? Thanks
When you say "it won't let me turn it back on", what exactly do you mean? Is there an error message?
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
If the above does not help, make a note of your Wi-Fi settings, then try removing Wi-Fi and re-adding it, i.e. go to..
System Preferences > Network
...and click on "Wi-Fi" in the left column. Then click the minus sign at the very bottom left of this window.
Reboot and add "Wi-Fi" again by clicking the plus sign and choosing "Wi-Fi" from the drop down list.
If it's still not working, try resetting the system management controller:
