Messages App freezes ocassionally and have to restart iPhone 6plus
At times i am reading a message received and the app freezes. I have to turn off iphone and start again. I have not bee able to replicate the feezing, it just happens.
I am having the same problem with my 3GS updated to 3.1. Today I had to restart my phone (turn it on, wait 15 secs - I was told to do that by the ATT rep, then turn phone back on) twice. The 3G signal was no where to be found. I could not make any phone calls. I tried calling myself using a land line and it sent me over to the voicemail. When I switched over to WiFi, I could go on the internet but not use the phone. When I rebooted/restarted the phone (in the same location where I was at), the phone worked. I called the ATT service rep and they said the signals / towers are working fine and that it was my phone. I need to restart it every couple of days. It's amazing that I had my Blackberry for 2.5 yrs (before my iPhone) and I only had to restart 3 times. Today, I had to restart the phone TWICE. Very frustrating. Please help!!!

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Mavericks and later

Having the exact same issue. Also, on right click, many apps freeze/beachball and must force close. Additionally, uTorrent and Transmission are not operating correctly-uTorrent constantly beachballing and unresponsive. Right-click freezes with everything from Word to iMovie. Takes way too much time to do anything, and lots of cursor freezing, here is a sys log excerpt:

That killed the hard drive, so I got a new hard drive and had the Apple Store install Lion on it, then used Migration Assistant to bring files over. Since then I've upgraded to Mountain Lion and have been experiencing lots of beach balls, freezes, etc. They're so bad that I've had to forcibly shut down 3 times, and each time can't restart. Each time I've erased and done a clean install of Mountain Lion from a USB, then used migration assistant and time machine to bring files back. When I try to delete message threads on my iPhone 5, the message app won't work until I restart my phone. Once it restarts, the message threads that I tried to delete are still there. Any advice?
I recently spoke to someone from Apple support, and here's what I gathered:
"Older" phones (read: anything iPhone 4s or older?) sometimes have trouble keeping up with the processing demands of the newest software. When deleting threads with a lot of media (photos, videos, etc), it can take a lot of processing to successfully delete. What this support tech suggested was picking some of the bigger threads at night before you go to bed, deleting them, and then leaving the phone alone-- and plugged in-- overnight to give it enough time to delete everything. He suggested not even pressing the lock button; just leave it to process (though I imagine the screen will lock on its own anyway).
Not sure if it works yet since I just spoke to him, but it's the closest thing I've got to a solution! -
Make Messages app show names and pictures by default in groups
Is there any way to make the Messages app show names and pictures by default in groups? It's kind of annoying to have to set that every time. I'm hoping Yosemite may add this option.

It should stay set.
Should be this Menu item.
To get the options to be dark and usable then Messages window need to be "front".
The Buddy Names item above is for the name display in the Buddy Lists.
If it is not sticking then check that you have Read and Write Permissions to the com.apple.ichat.plist in ~/Library/Preferences.
Since Lion this Folder has been hidden.
Use the Finder > Go menu > Go to Folder and copy and past the ~/Library/Preferences
FInd the File then Right click it and chose Get Info.
In the info Panel, near the bottom, your shortname should appear with (me) next to it.
You should have Read and Write permissions.

RMBP Late 2013 crash without log and have to restart by power button
I bought rMBP around November last year.
As I open Chrome, it crash without log.
The only solution is to restart it with power button.
I can't find the report by chrome://crashes and ~/Library/Logs/.
I think the kernel_task doesn't make it.
Are there anyone else got the same problem and solution?

Version:10.9.1(13B3116)I would reformat the drive then reinstall Lion:
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer. -

Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel.. add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility. -

How can I delete apps in iTunes and have that sync to my iPhone and iPad? I don't want to delete 3 separate times for each item. I just carefully chose 30-35 apps to get rid of via iTunes, hoping it would sync to my devices, only to find I have to repeat the process on my iPad, take notes, then repeat it on my iPhone. It wasn't always so tedious was it?
Here's the "Help" I got from Apple. They even quoted my question back to me then proceeded to answer with something very different and completely missing the point.
I understand that you would like to delete the Apps. I know how eager you are to get the required information and I will be happy to assist you.
You can remove individual songs, audiobooks, and videos from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad. Removing an item from your device doesn't delete it from your iTunes library.
To remove items from a device other than an iPod shuffle, first make sure that iTunes is set up to manually manage items.
1. Connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer.
2. When the iPod, iPhone, or iPad icon appears in iTunes, select it.
3. Unless your device is an iPod shuffle, click the Summary tab and make sure "Manually manage music and videos" or "Manually manage music" is selected.
4. If the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad (below Devices) is closed, click the triangle so that you can see the device's contents.
5. Select the item you want to delete and press the Delete key.
This was not helpful in any way and I am still unable to delete apps on my devices in a global, iTunes based way. Each device still requires its own independent process.Match was off. I made all of the changes and then went through the "Turn on iTunes Match" option. I now have deleted some tracks, edited the Metadata in CDDA, and then added it back. This worked fine, but it is not a good solution.
I just tried making some edits and use the "Update iTunes Match" and that seemed to work. It looks like the real answer is that Match must be up and operational, then you can make changes and run the Update to incorporate the changes. However, if Match has a problem then Signing Out and back in to your store account and going through the process of Turning On Match (were you get the questions, "Add this Computer to Match" will overwrite any changes.
Since this relies on the stability of iTunes, I won't be making a lot of changes between updates. -

I have exactly the same problem. It started a few weeks ago and the helpline could not work out the problem, so they sent me a new HUB 2.0. Ever since, the broadband connection keeps stopping every day several times a day, which is a real pain as I work from home.
I've just ran InSSider and there are two NETGEAR SSIDs on the same channel as mine (11). Would this affect / be part of problem? There are other SSIDs on channels 1,6,7 and 13. Not very techie, so would appreciate very basic advice! -

I used to live in Spain and bought music in the iTunes Store , I have now moved to Ireland and have a new iPhone but the music I bought in Spain is not listed in my music nor is it in my Library. This is a bit of a mess, because your billing address has to match the current iTS you are using. You also can't move items from one Apple ID account into another.

My mail app doesn't seem to open. It starts but then it kicks me out. I have tried restarting the device and the app but it makes no difference. Its telling me i have 2 messages but i cant get in to read them. Has anyone had this trouble before?
Close the Mail app in the Task Bar and re-launch.
Double-click the Home button to reveal Task Bar. Hold Mail app down for a second or two; tap the minus sign to close app.
If it still doesn't work, try a reset.
Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. -
I have a 32gb iPhone5, and every morning without fail, after updating to iOS8, my messages won't send, the message app crashes and won't respond, and then when it finally seems to, the whole thing is blank (as in no messages from anyone show up and the messages screen is just blank). The only way I've found to fix it is to turn off and on my phone and it works for another ~24 hours.

Screen freezes and have to restart
I have a MacBook 2,1 and every now and then my screen freezes and a message appears saying I have to press restart or hold down the power button. The message is written in 3 or four languages including Chinese and German. When it happens I have no choice but to shut down and lose whatever I'm doing. A message then comes on when I reboot saying that the computer had to shut down unexpectedly and asks me if I wish to report the error. Sometimes I click yes, sometimes no as to be honest I don't know what good it does.
To try and rectify the problem I installed Snow Leopard and have tried inserting the installation disc that came with my mac and running extended system scan. I have also rebooted holding down function S. None of the above have worked.
Anyone have any other ideas as this is getting seriously annoyingibngazelle wrote:
