Messages are sending as SMS texts instead of iMessages to some contacts

Hi,
I have noticed that a couple of my contacts with iPhones that I would normally iMessage to now I can only SMS text to.
It seems that in both cases, previously I received and iMessage from them and when I replied, it failed so I chose to send it as SMS.
Now, even, though I have deleted the Message threads, whenever I try and send a Message to them it insists on sending an SMS text instead of an iMessage.
How can I force it to start sending iMessages instead of SMS messages again to these contacts?
Thanks in advance for any help on this as it is really frustrating.
Rgds
Gary

You may also need to check with those individual receipents regarding the status of their iMessage. The use of iMessage requires an active data connection for both the sender and the receiver. If either is interrupted, it can cause the message to fail. The error could be on their end as well.

  • Group messages are going through as texts instead of imessage

Usually when me and my friends have a group message it's fine, it's all going through iMessage and I've never had a problem but yesterday my messages were failing to send and today it says at the top 'Outgoing' instead of 'Group' like it usually does and also my messages are going through as a text not an iMessage but only on the group message? Help

If you have others that are receiving your imessaging  but not the group you are attempting to send to then do this:
Click on your text messaging area using imessaging enabled and then type a message to yourself. Do this test to verify that your imessaging apple server is working properly. IF you get the messsage back to you in BLUE this indicates to you that both the outgoing and incoming text messaging is working as imessaging. With this piece of information verified that will indicate there are connectivity issues with individuals or all that are a part of the group you are attempting to contact. Please do not conclude that at a point in time this communication worked via imessaging that there may be some in the group that are now having conectiviity issues of their own.
    Good luck, Friend.

  • Not receiving texts from iPhone contacts when I'm not connected to wifi or cell data. I can't send and receive regular SMS texts with non iMessage users but iMessage users message are not being converted to text when I don't have internet connect

I can send and receive to any non iPhone user. I can send a message as a text to an iPhone user but if I'm not connected to cellular data or wifi I do not receive messages from iPhone contacts. From what I understand these message should automatically send to me as texts instead of iMessages but since the update it's not functioning properly. Please help. I've tried turning iMessage off and I still don't receive the messages until after I reconnect to wifi.

I have the same problem! Before the upgrade, if I wasn't connected to the internet, any messages sent to me from an iphone would convert automatically to a text message. I have payg tarriff, so I turn cell data off, as it costs too much to use it. I have wifi at home and work, but if I'm out and about, I don't receive texts from iphone users until I'm on wifi. I get them ok from non iphone users. There was never any problem until ios7

  • Several questions concerning sending bulk SMS texts on a 9300

Hi, I'm new here and have done the usual thing of checking previous topics using the search facility, but a few things don't seem to have been covered (or if they have the search facility didn't find them)
    1) Why does the 9300 only allow you to send an SMS text message to 100 contacts only? My old 9000 could send to everyone in a group (some of my groups contain 300+ contacts) I've now had to spend almost 2 days re-doing all my groups so that none contain more than a 100 contacts (for example Members A-H, Members I-O and Members P-Z)
Is there any way around this?
    2) How do I make the 9300 less like an iPhone and more like my old 9000? I hate the way that when you send a text to a group, if several people reply all the replies are grouped together. With the old 9000 each text from each individual was listed seperately, which actually made it easier to know who had replied.
    3) When sending a text to a group, with the 9000 I could see the whole list of recipients, with a red X next to those, who for one reason or another, hadn't received it. With the 9300 I get a red X next to the group name, but not against individuals, so I have no idea who did and who didn't et the message. How do I change the settings so that I do know?

No.  The iPad cannot make/receive cellular calls or send/receive cellular text messages.  It can only send and receive cellular data, if equipped with 3G.

  • Application messages are in the system log instead of the application log

    Hi SAP GURUS.
The standard output is created from the outbound delivery .
All the messages are hitting the system log instead of the application log .
This is after the upgrade from 4.6c to ECC 6.0 .
Please provide the details how to move the log to the application log since the output is the standard output (SAP provided output type ).

Your question is almost too much a personal one, begging the question "do we (husband and wife) feel comfy sharing one account on the Mac"   maybe thats why nobody answered you.
It doesnt complicate anything, but it adds steps for switching accounts on the Mac/ purchases etc. of course
since your question is mostly personal, ..I wont answer THAT part of it, but creating a new account is easy.....messing with switching back and forth is also a personal preference 'issue' as well.   I prefer to keep things simple, but...........you and yours,  I dont know.......

I just upgraded to iphone 5 and now imessage don't work. it sends as sms. i've checked imessages is on in settings.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Imessage stopped sending my SMS text messages, do you know why?

I updated my MacBook Pro a while ago to Yosemite - and surprisingly it worked out (together with my iphone4) to send imessage AS WELL AS normal text messages. However 2 days ago it stopped working and logs out all the time. Only imessage come through (but not always).
Do you guys have a clue, what the problem could be?
    Thanks a lot!

Thanks Malcom! I just tried inserting the short characters before the message and it works.
But it's really boring having to type *# etc in front of a text message. The iPhone keypad doesn't lend itself very well for such exercises...
But thanks a lot for pointing me to a temporary workaround.
It's a bit embarrasing for Apple that Nokias, Ericssons, Samsungs etc do this automatically and you can chose delivery report on/off in settings for all these phones. But with Apple iPhone you have to write your own little string of code to get this basic functionality...
YOu actually have to make an extra 10-15 key presses in front of EVERY sms/text message you send for this to work... Something truly time consuming and boring. When I just want to send a text-message saying "yes" I have to type in *#KV and jump between character sets etc. Not nice.
How come Apple has failed to make this central thing of SMS/text work?

  • IPhone 4s Sending Old SMS / Text Messages

    Hi Guys & Girls,
My iPhone 4s randomly sends out an old message from a few days ago. Basicly very randomly when I send a SMS, intead of receiving the SMS i just sent, the recipient will receive a message from a few days ago and not receive the SMS I just sent.
Applecare told me it's a problem with the network i'm on, so contacted the network, they can't find anything wrong with network or my account. I have tried 3 diffrent networks in the UK (3, GiffGaff, O2) and all are having the exact same issue, so I highly doubt that it's a problem with the network.
The receipent has also changed networks and phones, still with no luck.
Any Ideas? Anyone else having the same problem? I'm quite certain that it's an issue with the iPhone or iOS

This is happening to me also since I installed iOs6 on my iPhone4. It is most frustrating, embarrassing and potentially damaging to relationships. iOS6 has been nothing but bother for me!!

  • Sending as text instead of imessage

Hi.  For the most part I love imessage as it allows me and my family in the States (I live in Canada) to exchange texts without incurring international texting fees.  However, I have noticed that many of our texts are not delivered to our phones.  The problem arises because we have multiple devices with our Apple ID, so if I am out and away from wifi, sometimes, the message will be delivered to my computer or ipad and not to my phone.  When I try to send a text to my brother during work hours, I have to send it as a text, otherwise, it goes to his Mac instead, and eh won't see it until I tell him to check there.  The messages are showing up as "delivered" so none of the workarounds such as clicking the message to switch to SMS will work for me.  So far, the only workaround I can see is to constantly go into my settings, turn off imessages, and send the text.  The problem is that I don't want to have imessage permanently disabled, since I do really like it.  And to comstantly go back and forth is clunky, and contains none of the elegant ease that I expect with Apple products.  Is there an easier work-around?

Not sure how an iMessage is being sent as a text with Send as SMS turned off with your iMessage setting.
Has the recipient turned iMessage off?

  • How do I send a SMS rather than a iMessage message?

I want to send a SMS message to my mothers phone (thats not a iPhone) from my iPhone. I have my mothers e-mail and Phone number in my contacts for her. So I hit messages and select my mothers name and then type my message. Tap send, then it says delivered. Everything hunkie doorie, au contraire. The message is sent to my mothers iPod not her phone. I still what to keep the e-mail so I can face time her iPod but I still want to text her on her phone. How can I send a message as a SMS rarther than a iMessage message?
    Thanks.

You might try removing your mother's email address from her contact info on your phone. If that works you could set up a different contact (misspelled or somehow different) for her email to use with facetime. I used to do this all the time to more efficiently separate home/work/cell numbers. This might be a sloppy work around, but it might work until there are different options in the settings. This is just an idea. I really have no clue if it will work. Good luck.

  • Blackberry 8310 not showing reply or send in sms text options menu

I have a blackberry 8310. iam able to recieve sms text messages but when i click to on options, there is no "reply" option in the menu for me to be able to reply to the text. The chip works fine in other phones so that tells me something in the phone is not set right. There is no option for me to even compose and fresh sms text message. Please help?

    Here ya' go:
    1. Get a good backup of your device: BB device backup (I keep all my backups in a separate folder created for that purpose so they are always in one place and easy to find.)
    2. Download the most recent version of device software for your carrier: Downloading BB device software
    3. Reinstall the device software: Clean reload of device software
    4. Pull the battery out with the device ON. Wait about a minute and put the battery back in. Let the BB completely restart.
    5. Once you have the device OS successfully installed you will then need to reinstall any 3rd party apps you currently have on your device: Install applications using the app loader tool
    6. Complete another battery pull routine after each 3rd party app installation to reclaim memory and refresh your BB.
Let us know how it goes.
