Messages Beta and iChat email/account

Trying to install Messages Beta instead of using iChat.
Now the iChat window is open as before but I need to log into Messages. Trying to do so with the same email/password as iChat fails.
Any ideas? Do I need to create once again another new email?

Scott, the same is happening for me. After a lot of messing about I have got the OSX app to recieve messages sent to my Apple ID and 3 other email addresses. I have also set those email addresses in the iOS app and signed on with my Apple ID on that too. So messages sent to any of my mail addresses come to both devices.
Messages sent to my mobile number only go to my phone even though it's the same Apple ID and my phone number is registered with that ID.
If I send from OSx, because I have set the 'caller ID' to be an email address that both iOS and OSx can recieve, the reply goes to both. However, this was not the case for the first hour of use, so I'm wondering if there is some server problem at Apple as it started working properly after a while.
To me there is one vital missing peice and 1 nice to have. Messages sent to your phone number should also go to your OSx app. The Apple ID ties them together so there is no reason why this shouldn't work. The nice to have is the ability to set your 'caller ID' to be your mobile number from the OSx app in case the recipient doesn't have your email address in their address book.

I set up Messages and made my primary contact id my icloud/apple id.
I tried to add an email alias that I use frequently with the icloud account but I keep getting an error when I try to add that email alias as an email account.
Any thoughts/suggestions?

I am not sure what you mean by "connected with the Apple ID in use". The email aliases were email aliases that I had with MobileMe and they carried over to icloud. Email sent to either the original Apple ID or the email alias has always worked as expected. The email shows up on IOS devices and my Mac regardless of whether the email was addressed to the original Apple ID or the email alias.

Email messages from my personal email account are being posted (copied) to SMS messages. I have a new cell device, and this is happening on the new device also. The copy/forward to SMS is NOT being initiated by my email provider. How do I end this?

Maybe I'm missing something but how can Verizon have control over your personal GMail account? Sounds like you do have your email set up to forward to sms.
I have certain emails that are forwarded to me as SMS but that is an option that is enabled on the email side of things and is independent from Verizon.

Messages beta and iPhone...lingering effects?

So everyone I'm sure was aware that messages beta had a bug where all of a sudden randomly my iMessages (but only to the one person I had messages beta set up with) starting saying delivered as soon as the message went through, but then 10 seconds later it switched to not delivered with the red exclamation point. So I did some research and low and behold simply uninstalling did the trick and I have not had any issues.............untillll yesterday. Where the same symptoms came back to my iMessages on my iPhone with that same person. My messages are being delivered but it is royal annoying to have those little red exclamation points next to every message. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

On your Phone your iMessages are not being delivered and you have deleted the Messages Beta on your Mac and you are wondering if there is some sort of after effect ?
I see that one other person has indicated a "Me Too" on this question.
I find that when this happens on my phone (pre Messages Beta and since) that it usually means I have lost the network I was using. (And that happens even if I don't move the phone)
I would not think that it is a Message Beta hangover effect.

Well, seems I managed to unscrew this...I deleted my iCloud mail account and reinstalled it on my phone. That got rid of the duplicate .me/.mac email accounts.

Well you can only have a different password if you are going to use a different Apple ID

The password will not be sent to you, because Apple does not know it. They will send a link where you can reset the password. Problems with .mac and .me email accounts after iCloud

For over a month I have been locked out of my .mac and .me email accounts on password issues involving iCloud.
I must have changed (duly confirmed as valid by Apple) a dozen times my iCloud account password and duly updated it to the preferences of mail.
Still, when I try opening the mail I am prompted to enter the password, which every time fails. Every time I follow the link to replace the pw, I do so, I get the OK from Apple and back to square one ....
I tried talking to support, but after 40 minutes of waiting I was given an ineffectual tip that did not work. No intention of calling again.
Can anyone please put an end to my suffering?
(Yes, I can type. Yes, I have been using Apple computers since 1984. Yes, I regularly enter countless password protected sites, no problem)

I understand that they're the same thing but they don't seem to be working like that at the moment... and this has been the case ever since transferring to iCloud.
The problem I'm having is that if anyone emails my .mac address it returns to sender undeliverable, while the .me address works fine. Similarly, if I try to send an email using .mac it won't send it, but it will using .me. Most of my contacts have the .mac address so I'm not getting any emails.
If anyone has any advice I'd be most grateful.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

You don't need to merge them - they are already merged as they are exactly the same account. They are just different addresses pointing to the same account.
mende1 has it wrong saying "you receive the same mails on both mail accounts". There is only one mail account. Both email addresses point to the same single email account.

I import messages into Thunderbird. I send and receive emails. One of the things I like about Thunderbird is that I can insert (image, link, etc) right where I want to, and I can Attach. But not just a simple attach file. No, I can also click Attach and choose Webpage. A lot of web-based emails are plain, simple, no frills - Attach file and that's it.
So I need to have my client be able to do the same thing I do when sending out emails, Namely sending out emails with an Electronic Press Kit (EPK) attached - which is to say, a webpage (not a pdf in our case). So, I need her to download, install, and use Thunderbird.
Here's the problem and my question. She needs to access, send, and receive from my email account. That would be easy if it was simple attach files - she could just login on the web, go to squirrel mail and bang it out.. Here it is: She needs to be able to import the messages to be able to reply to some messages - she needs access to what I have access to. She needs to use Thunderbird so she can take advantage of the features like insert image with link or attaching a webpage. My question is how will this affect my use? Can 2 people simultaneously and from different locations access and use the same email account or is it a case where her importing the emails would cut me off..Is it an either or thing? Basically, can her and I both import the emails or can they only be imported to one location at a time. Because every time someone sends me an email i get it right there on my Thunderbird application..it's imported to my Thunderbird..I want her and I to be able to do that without affecting each other. I don't want her to start importing to her desktop and then I can no longer import. If she says "point those messages to my computer what will happen to my ability to access them on my computer in the same manner I am currently?

I think there is a contradiction in your requirements. You want two people to share an account and you don't want either to interfere with the other.
The short and simple answer is to use IMAP to connect to the mail server. If your current email provider doesn't offer IMAP, find another that does. This is old technology already and it's disgraceful that some email providers haven't yet put it in place.
IMAP means that your messages are stored on the server and both of you will see exactly the same set of messages. And therein lies the contradiction; you will both see changes made by the other so you are inherently interfering with one another.
Caveats: some providers may not permit you both to access the account concurrently, and even if they do, things may become interesting if you both choose to work on the same message simultaneously.
Note that all of this is about email servers and protocols; your choice of Thunderbird as your email client has little bearing on the situation.
