Messages Beta, multiple recipient bug?

I just downloaded Messages Beta on my Macbook Pro and what happens is, when I continue a conversation with multiple recipients on my Mac that was on my phone before, it creates two different conversations. It keeps creating multiple conversations on my friends' phones periodically when I switch back and forth between Mac and iPhone. On MY phone it appears as one conversation, but on my friends' phones it creates multiple conversations.
Please let me know if this is a known bug, or if it's a quick fix!

I think the problem might be that iMessage from the email and phone number are separate.. Apple should definitely try and integrate the two, otherwise it becomes a very sloppy, and inconvenient way of messaging.
I've submitted feedback, lets wait and see what happens!

Is there a way to print a Mail message without having also to print the dozens of recipients, where that's the case? I can't see an obvious way, but I'm sure I used to be able to do this. I'd be grateful if anyone knows how.

Messages beta and iPhone...lingering effects?

So everyone I'm sure was aware that messages beta had a bug where all of a sudden randomly my iMessages (but only to the one person I had messages beta set up with) starting saying delivered as soon as the message went through, but then 10 seconds later it switched to not delivered with the red exclamation point. So I did some research and low and behold simply uninstalling did the trick and I have not had any issues.............untillll yesterday. Where the same symptoms came back to my iMessages on my iPhone with that same person. My messages are being delivered but it is royal annoying to have those little red exclamation points next to every message. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

On your Phone your iMessages are not being delivered and you have deleted the Messages Beta on your Mac and you are wondering if there is some sort of after effect ?
I see that one other person has indicated a "Me Too" on this question.
I find that when this happens on my phone (pre Messages Beta and since) that it usually means I have lost the network I was using. (And that happens even if I don't move the phone)
I would not think that it is a Message Beta hangover effect.

Messages beta - Bug List

Hi All,
I thought I'd "Help" and list the bugs I'm experiencing in Messages Beta. Part of the reason is to give some feedback to the team developing it and also to see if it's just me.
1) Messages don't sync properly between devices.
Lots of people have this problem and lots of people are offering solutions mainly around Apple IDs and Caller IDs. I've tried everything and I still can't get them to sync properly. I end up with messages missing.
2) Late messages. A bit like messages not syncing, but they do arrive eventually, just late.
3) Messages out of order on the same device even when delivery reports suggest they shouldn't be.
A sends a picture to B. A gets told that it has been delivered even though B hasn't received it yet. A sends a message to say "what do you think of that picture". B replies "what picture"
4) Failure to send
I often try to send a message and then after a while I get the red exclamation mark to say it failed. It sends on the re-try. It's like Messages has lost connection to the server because when this happens I sometimes get old messages delivered too.
5) Doc icon tells me I have unread messages when I don't
6) The app sometimes marks messages as unread when I have read them and will keep doing this. Over time I seem to be building up a stack of unread messages.

Notes.
I can set up a message and "Send" it am Messages make the noses that it has gone but nothing appears in the chat window part.
This tends to happen on the first Messages sent to that person (multiple times in Messages but only once to those it happens with).

I had this (Above) happen with a Pic I thought I had sent.
Currently trying to test further.
This might of course be an item 3 issue.
Re 5: Not seeing this but I ma not sending or receiving that many iMessages yet.

The Message that made the sounds that I had sent the message was seen on my Phone and on my son's (testee) (I ended up sending the pic twice)
Also in Messages, like I used to in iChat, I typed a comment in the Balloon the Pic went it but my phone shows pics and text separately.

How do you use multiple apple id's with messages beta?

With the wife and myself each having our own apple Id's for imessage because of multiple iphones/ipads, how do we make messages beta on the mac work for us? I tried logging in as me when I installed it and it works just fine with me messaging her and her back to me but how do I log out from me and log in as her if she were the one sitting at the mac? I don't see anything that lets me do that.

hmm, that's a trick one! what I would do is go to Messages>preferences>accounts and then select imessages and then select account details and then sign out. Then your wife will need to sign in with her apple id.

simply adding both of your accounts to be reached at will prove to be faulty because when you reply you can only reply with the one email address. And even if you switch caller id's it probably still won't work. So I think my method would be the easiest way to do that at this time.

Send a message to multiple computers(Not users) from win7/xp command/or scirpt

Hi Team, is there a way to send a message to multiple windows xp/win7 computers from my win7/xp? 3rd party software,commercial or free, command line,batch or script all welcome. I have a few hundreds of computers, ping-them alive,but I don't know their
location and user name. I was failed to push SCCM client to them,some could be in work group or admin$ disabled. so I plan to send a message like " please contact IT department for your pc maintenance by this Friday or this PC will be deleted from
the corp domain", when the user contact IT, we can RDP or manual install SCCM onsite with user cooperation. The msg.exe can only send to user,instead of computer names. I tried shutdown /m \\pc-name -f -s -t 1200000 "testMessage" but I got alert
of access denied. though it works if put my local PC name. is there any other way to accomplish this? Many thanks!

Base on my experience, personally I think solve this case the better method is through your help desk collect the new computer information because consider this: “some
could be in work group or admin$ disabled”, if there have more workgroup PC, it will always hardly to manage them though a purely technical method.
About the domain computer, you can refer the following thread I replayed solution, notice a message to users to connect IT department.

Multiple recipient email addresses is not working for xsl & PDF Attachment

multiple recipient email addresses is not working properly when
to list has some external email address and sending xls and PDF file as an attachment.
Test Scenario:
(A) Create mail target activity
1)To email : use the multiple email id with some external domain (ex.
[email protected] ,[email protected], [email protected])
2)File attachment with .xls file and this file is sending to mail target as an inputstream(at runtime)
3)Use all other valid parameter in activity.
(B) Create a process flow File source to mail target
Execute the process flow.
Actual Result: Mail is received by every email account. Only external email account get correct file but other email account(as ([email protected])) attachment files

First, when sending your message, the filename should be a simple
filename, not containing any directory names.
It sounds like your mail server might be doing some special
processing of attachments, perhaps to prevent viruses.

Messages Beta and iChat email/account

Trying to install Messages Beta instead of using iChat.
Now the iChat window is open as before but I need to log into Messages. Trying to do so with the same email/password as iChat fails.
Any ideas? Do I need to create once again another new email?

Scott, the same is happening for me. After a lot of messing about I have got the OSX app to recieve messages sent to my Apple ID and 3 other email addresses. I have also set those email addresses in the iOS app and signed on with my Apple ID on that too. So messages sent to any of my mail addresses come to both devices.
Messages sent to my mobile number only go to my phone even though it's the same Apple ID and my phone number is registered with that ID.
If I send from OSx, because I have set the 'caller ID' to be an email address that both iOS and OSx can recieve, the reply goes to both. However, this was not the case for the first hour of use, so I'm wondering if there is some server problem at Apple as it started working properly after a while.
To me there is one vital missing peice and 1 nice to have. Messages sent to your phone number should also go to your OSx app. The Apple ID ties them together so there is no reason why this shouldn't work. The nice to have is the ability to set your 'caller ID' to be your mobile number from the OSx app in case the recipient doesn't have your email address in their address book.

Multiple recipient SMS failure

When I send out an multiple recipient SMS from my IPhone 4s to my daughter's Verizon Env 3 and my son's verizon IPhone 4s, only my son receives the message. When I send a single recipient SMS to my daughter she can receive it then only. What's going on here?

I want to help get this working properly for you. Is this a standard SMS/Text message you are sending? Or is this an MMS/Picture message you are sending? If a picture message, the file size may be too big to receive as @Ann154 suggested. When it sends from your 4S to your son’s 4S, is it being sent as an iMessage? Is the EnV 3 newly activated to your daughter’s line? Please go into Settings & Tools>Phone Settings> Security> ENTER LOCK CODE> Restrictions> ENTER LOCK CODE, then confirm the ‘Messages’ settings are all set to ‘Allow All’ to ensure the device will accept all text messages. Please reply back so I and the community can assist further.

Messages Beta for Mac - Clears history when closed

I have a big annoyance with the Messages Beta for Mac. When I close the window and re-open it, all the conversations are gone. This makes it hard to reply to a message I got earlier or review recent conversations. On iDevices, if you close it, everything is still there, unless you delete it. This is how I think the Mac version should work, anyone agree?

this mine did this the first time, but not after that.
when I first tested messages beta, I texted a conversation, closed the window, and was surprised to see my conversations were not saved
however.
now my messages are saving even after shutting down the messages app completely. I turn on messages and all my chats are back where they were when I shut down. May just be a bug, but even under preferences it includes an option to choose where to save chat transcripts - so I imagine the final version will have this worked out and all your messages will be saved how you want them

Messages beta crashes on launch - the actual solution

since this garbage forum won't let you edit a "solution" even if it is incorrect, i'm creating a competing duplicate topic as a kludge to address the exact same issue. joy.

sometimes after a clean reinstall i can send one message to my wife's account/phone before there is a crash.

so, what now?

Messages Beta won't sign in with my apple ID

When i click sign in with my apple ID all i get is the loading wheel. i left it to watch a movie and when i came back it was still going.
Facetime for mac dose the same thing as well.
Any one know whats wrong or how to fix it ?

The AppleID account system operates a bit differently now.
When iCloud went into effect, Apple was encouraging people to unify multiple accounts and account types. Many people did, and some didn't (or the other way around.) There are security reasons why you may not want to.
Accounts can now have associated e-Mail addresses. And these e-Mail addresses can be verified (for better security) or not.
Messages ∫Beta requires that an e-Mail address be associated with the Apple ID you want to use.
So, I'll bet that you actually have more than one Apple ID. And I'll bet that the e-Mail address you prefer is associated with another other ID or that you have no e-Mail address available on that Apple ID account.
When you enter your Apple ID in Messages, and the gear is spinning it means that it can not automatically associate and e-Mail address and it is waiting for you to key one in.
But, if an e-Mail address that you attempt to use is already associated with another Apple ID you will get a notice that says it is unable to verify & use because it is already associated.
So, go to appleid.apple.com log–in (as manage your account) with any new & old accounts that you can remember and see what e-Mail addresses are associated with each of them.
Also, occasionally when initially installing the Messages ∫Beta, you may have to power down your system a second time after you attempt to set up the account. This seems to be a hang, as it is waiting for a valid e-Mail address to be entered.

Using Messages with Multiple Users and Multiple Computers

I have two users who share two different computers, switching between them during the day.
I'd like to use messages on them for us to send text messages in the office, however, it asks them on logging in (most, but not everytime) to re-enter their apple id password. It seems that using icloud for messages among multiple computers like this isn't good. its like it wants each computers to be linked with a particular user, and doesn't like it that the users are moving around from computer to computer
Options to avoid this nuisance?
1. Would bonjour messaging work, and then just remove the icloud account from messages?
2. How about setting up the message server on my ML Server, would that avoid this problem?

I'd say probably make sure that in the advanced tab under edit>preferences you should make sure they both point to the same file.

Why do I get a popup message in multiple languages requiring a shutdown and restart

Why do I keep getting a popup message in multiple languages requiring a shutdown and restart? Has been going on for a few months. Because of the shutdown reports have been sent to Apple upon restart.

After it restarted, did you see a dialog box resembling this one:
If so, next time it occurs click Report...
Before you send it to Apple, copy the text of the report. Paste it in a reply. Remove or obscure any personal information, should it appear.
If problems continues to occur please determine if they also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
