Messages Beta won't connect to my iPhone number
My iphone message app seems to be connected to my iphone mobile number. Messages in beta for my Mac is connected to my icloud (.mac) account. They don't talk to each other - ie, they are two separate accounts, so I can't see threads initiated on my computer on my iPhone and vice versa. How can I make them talk to each other?

When I go into Settings > Messages on my iPhone I don't get an option to change or add my iCloud settings. What am I missing? Thanks.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

When I connect my iPad to my iMac I get a repetitive flashing error message "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected." iPhoto eventually launches but iTunes will not launch iTunes. iPad will not charge. Restarted iMac and rebooted iPad and no difference.

Just bought macbook pro retina. have had iPhone 4s for two years and use it to tether my iPad to regularly no problem. however the macbook pro won't connect to the iPhone via bluetooth. it recognises it's there and a connection code is displayed, but when I enter the code it won't connect and the phone insists that I agree to 'forget this device'. how do I enable tethering so I can use the 3g signal to browse on my laptop whilst travelling please?
Only thing I could suggest would be to "Reset Network Settings" on the phone (Settings> General> Reset>) . Of course, this will forget and delete any saved Wi-Fi or network configurations, but if that's not a problem for you then, maybe worth a shot.
Although saying that, I think iCloud remembers old settings (if you are connected and sharing network configurations), so may not be a total loss. -

For no apparent reason my phone stopped working...so I did a reset and got the message 'Restore Needed'. I connected to iTunes and got this message: 'iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on your iPhone before it can be used with iTunes'.
The problem is, I can't enter my passcode because I'm not given that option on the iPhone. All I seem to be able to do is make an emergency call.
It's been working fine otherwise. Any suggestions?
This is the SECOND replacement iPhone I've had this week and I'm getting a bit fed up.

If so reboot your iPhone and enter the passcode to get it operational. Launch Image Capture on the Mac and connect the iPhone. Now you should be able to download the video files to wherever you want on your hard drive.

I can't seem to sync my iPhone to my computer; I keep getting this message: "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an error occurred while reading from this device." I get the same message with my iPad, even though they all share the same account. What can I do?
This could be caused by a USB connection issue. Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the Mac using the USB cable it came with. Also, try disconnecting all other USB devices.

Microsoft Exchange won't connect with my iPhone (it's saying the password is incorrect, but it shouldn't be), now I can't delete that inbox on the phone. Help??
Turn off wifi. Use wireless signal. reenter password at settings. This should work. Turn wifi back on if you wish. Wait for next occurrence within hours or days. Have not found a permanent preventive solution. Thinking of replacing my four year old wireless router.

Try erasing your network preferences again from settings-about-reset and erase or something like this and try reconnecting if the problem persists try changing the name and password of your router and if you it keeps not connecting you will have to try restoring your iphone through itunes on your PC.

Messages beta won't send to one of my contacts
Just downloaded Messages beta and it works fine except that it won't send iMessages to one of my contacts. She has an iPhone 4S and can receive iMessages from my iPhone4. Messages has no problem sending to my brother, who also has an iPhone 4S. Suggestions?

Are you sending to her Name or her Apple ID ?
On her phone > Settings > Messages > Received At > Caller ID what does she have set ?
Your Phone is probably doing Phone Number to to Phone number (without even looking at the Apple ID) where as Messages is trying an Apple ID you have for her.

have a iphone 4. i have downloaded the latest version of itunes to update the ios. I am having problems with the back up and sync and also the update. the update error message is coming up saying it cannot connect to the iphone update server. I am useing a windows 7 32 bit laptop. I have also reset my phone to factory settings. Would taking it to one of the stores and they would do it for me??

I downloaded messages beta, and after trying video chat with my wife who was using iChat, I decided to uninstall, and every time I try to uninstall, I get a network problem saying that the messages beta uninstalled can't be downloaded as my computer isn't connected to the Internet, and I clearly am connected thru my wifi, any ideas how to get around this?

Any version of iChat or the Message beta will have issues if you have two connections to the internet.
In fact iChat 4 in Leopard has the worst issues particularly if the computer you are on is Sharing the Internet with other devices (See System Preferences > Sharing > Internet Sharing)
iChat can just about manage in Text Chats to connect with other people.
In Video Chats and Audio Only chats and Screen Sharing ichat needs to be in "One Place"
With two IPs issued from a router for Wifi and Ethernet (See the differences in System Preferences > Network for Ethernet and Advanced Button > TCP tab for Wifi) means that iChat looks like it is in two places.
It is worse if you share the Wifi of a neighbour and use Ethernet yourself.
Using Ethernet may get your computer to access the DNS servers from your router more consistently so that Messages can find the place to download iChat 6 (There is evidence that both downloading Messages Beta and registering the Apple ID needs the correct or adequate DNS server info to work properly)

The point you make though, that a Ethernet connection may work better, is valid.

...i have Windows XP. I followed the suggestion to turn off and on the iPhone and at least now my iphone appears under Devices in itunes. Now I'm having problems downloading picutres from my laptop to my iphone. this is my first iphone and apple product.

Messages beta won`t login behind proxy

I`m using the Messages beta app behind a university proxy which accepts basically any protocol (HTTPS/HTTP/SOCKS5...) but requires authentication.
The problem I`m having is that any account (gmail, AIM etc) except iMessage works with a proxifier app eg. Proxifier or ProxyCap.
What I`m guessing is that iMessage uses a different protocol, but which one? If this is the case I could look for a Proxifier app that accepts the specific protocol.

I have heard of Google (possible Jabber account in General) not having a Proxy option in Messages beta
The AIM ones do but mostly points at using the System Preferences set ones.
In Previous versions the System Preferences ones tended to be the better option.
