Messages can't share screen with iChat/Lion user?!
My newly upgraded iMac now has Messages and it keeps failing when I try and use the screen sharing option with a friend running Lion / iChat on a 2012 Macbook Pro.
Anyone else having this problem?
I hope it gets fixed really soon - I use this feature A LOT.
Oh, I don't doubt it was something very specifically screwy on that Mac mini that somehow got exacerbated by Mountain Lion. My original install of Lion on that mini a year ago hung at the end. I had to do a clean install of Snow Leopard and then upgraded over that. It was then I discovered Lion 10.7.0 had a bug that disabled the Mac mini's analog out ability until restart if a digital signal was sent at all. This killed my Mac mini as a HTPC and led to it's transition to a headless server instead.
What was great about that bug was it apparently also affected some 10.6.8 users (I wasn't affected). A "10.6.8 Supplemental Update" was released to fix that issue a few days later. I filed a bug with Apple for 10.7, it was marked as a "known issue" and remained unfixed until 10.7.1 came out almost a month later.
The Mac mini worked for another few months until 10.7.2 came out in October. That upgrade also hung, and another full reinstall of Lion was needed. It's worked fine since then, with the exception of iCal, iCloud, QuickTime, iPhoto, and iTunes bugs that have been present on all my Macs and confirmed as "known issues" with Apple. And now with 10.8.0, the Mac mini has broken again.
In general, since Lion came out and iCloud has come online, I've had more problems with my Apple products than I can ever remember. They've all gone from being rock stable to buggy peices of junk. If this issue with Mountain Lion is the start of a similar trend for 10.8 and iOS 6, I may have to think about transitioning to another platform. It's gotten to be just as time intesive to keep everything working right as on Windows!

I can't share screens with Skype (Windows . I searched everywhere but I couldn't find a solution for it.I tried: clicking on the + button during a conversation as well as right clicking on the contact and seeking for the screen sharing button. Anyone else? When I use back to my mac, I can get access to the files on my desktop, BUT, I can't screen share. Screen share is sleected in settings and everything I know to check is set up right. Back to my Mac ir running on both machines using the same sign in.
Any ideas?
JonOnce you get yourself back to Snow Leopard, if you still want to upgrade somewhat, I would suggest the following:
1. Get an external hard drive that you can use for experiments with new OS versions. You could partition it into 2 or 3 partitions. You could then clone your existing Snow Leopard system to one partition using Carbon Copy Cloner (well worth $40) or SuperDuper ($25).
2. Buy OS X Mountain Lion for $20, through the Apple online store (I don't think it's available through the App Store). Apple has decided to make it very difficult for anyone to get Mavericks unless they have already downloaded it.
You will receive two e-mails from Apple, one containing a PDF with a redemption code, and one with the password you will need to unlock the PDF. Using the code, you will download Mountain Lion from the App Store, where it will appear among your Purchased items.
After ML finishes downloading, its installer app will launch itself. When you see this launch screen, QUIT the install app immediately! Go to your applications folder, find the Install OS X Mountain Lion app, and copy it to a safe location outside of your Applications folder. Keeping one or more copies will allow you to reinstall without unnecessary aggravation if you later need or want to do that. At this point, you can re-launch the Installer in the Applications folder and let it run. You can install it on a clean partition on your external HD, or you can allow it to upgrade the Snow Leopard clone you created on your external drive, or you can do both. This should allow you to test how everything works for as long as you like.
3. If you left yourself a free partition on your test drive, try a clean install of Yosemite and set everything up from scratch (do not migrate anything). This will allow you to see whether your problems with it were related to something in your Snow Leopard system. -

I loaded Leopard on both of my intel macs...a mini and a macbook. When I try to share a screen it ask me for my password and then tells me its wrong..Can anyone help?

Can i share files with oth ipad users, like a cloud should work? Ipad does not work well with dropbox and i would like to allow several users to access the same file on their ipads.

[HELP] ichat can't share screen, can't video chat and can't audio chat
I'm a newbie in mac. I just bought my mac two days ago. Yesterday I realized that ichat was a very cool software. We could share screen, video chatting and even watch movies together with my friend. Restart iChat to "See" this new speed.
In your routing device set it to allow it to Respond to Pings. (the default is normally to Block them - wording may vary)

i can't open swf files for schoolwork. Installed VCL, Flip4Mac and Adobe flash and shockwave players. Can get white screen with connection erro message with adobe flash player. Help me!
Apple dropped playback support for .swf formats in QuickTime almost ten years ago.
Adobe Flash Player is the only way to view them. -

Set it to Off.

After upgrading to Yosemite, I am unable to share screen with Macbook Pro
After upgrading to Yosemite 10.10 on a 2008 MacBook Pro I am unable to "Share Screen" using my authorized user account. It worked fine before I upgraded to Yosemite.
I can access "Share Screen" by "requesting permission", but of course this doesn't work unless I am sitting right by the MacBook Pro to give myself permission, which defeats my original purpose for using "Share Screen".
I attempted to add another authorized "Share Screen" user account, but was unable to access the list of add "Groups and Users" on the host MacBook Pro from the "Share Screen" dialog box. The dialog box pops up, when I press "+" to add another user, but the list of users fails to appear. I assume the list of authorized users for screen share has somehow become corrupt.
All other ways to access "sharing user" accounts appear to be working properly. I can add and remove other "sharing users" without problems. For example, I can add a new authorized "file share" user and share files without problems.
I ran Disk Utility in Recovery Mode and normal mode and corrected all errors, and user permissions on both machines. I also ran "resetpassword" from Terminal in Recovery Mode and "reset" user permissions. I am not an experienced Terminal or Recovery Mode user though.
I also tried turning the Firewall off, to no avail.
I am attempting to access "Screen Share" on the MacBook Pro via a Macbook Air 13" manufactured mid 2013 also with Yosemite 10.10, however, I also attempted with an older MacBook Air which experiences the same problem.Thanks for the idea but it did not work, I do not know why it is asking me for a password which I never needed before for a guest to use the computer? I have tried everything and I do not know which password it wants? I do not see any option for a password for the guest account, to create one or delete one or modify it? Maybe this bug\problem will be addressed in a future update?

Can't video chat with iChat 6.0.1 with Verizon Fios modem, MI424WR. Get error "Router type is Restricted, Port Restricted, Symmetric, or Unknown." How do I configure the router? I have allowed iChat incoming connections in my Mac (10.7.2) firewall. GChat and Skype work fine.

" To set up advanced port forwarding (custom ports):
1. Click the arrow next to “Application to forward...” and select Custom Ports from the drop-down menu.

2. Enter the host name (from the drop-down list) or local IP address of the computer providing the service in the “Specify IP” text box. Note that only one local network computer can be assigned to provide a specific service or application.
3. Click Advanced.
4. Select the Internet protocol to be provided from the “Protocol” drop-down list. Depending on the protocol selected, additional options appear in the screen.
5. Select the connection with which this port forwarding rule will be active from the “WAN Connection Type” drop-down list.
6. To select a port to forward communications to (this is optional), select “Specify” from the “Forward to Port” drop-down list, then, in the text box that appears, enter the port number. If no port is identified, select “Same as
Incoming Port.”
7. If this port will be active all the time, select “Always” from the “Schedule” drop-down list. If the rule will only be active at certain times, select “User Defined” and click Add. Then, add a schedule rule (for more details about
schedule rules, see the “Advanced Settings” chapter of this manual).
8. If source and destination ports need to be specified, select Specify from the drop-down menu list (by clicking on the appropriate arrow), then entering the port numbers.
9. Click Apply to save the changes. The new port forwarding rule appears in the “Applied rules” table at the bottom of the screen."

You can set up Messages and Facetime separate from your husband and still use the same iTunes to sync things like music, movies, Apps, etc.
To do this though, you need to get your own Apple ID. You then use your Apple ID to set up Messages and Facetime under your account. This way your Messages and Facetime calls will come from your account and your husbands from his.
And you will still be able to sync the devises on the same iTunes account. -

Shared how? The other users can read the documents or you all can read and write the documents?
The first is easy just place the documents in /Users/Shared anyone can access the files there and the other users will be able to read them.
The second is a bit trickier. -

Copy the entire iTunes folder from your old computer to your new one using one of the methods discussed here: iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer. If you no longer have the old computer and you have to transfer it from your phone, you will have to purchase and use third-party software to extract the music from your phone, such as Touch Copy or CopyTrans.
