Messages cannot talk to Google talk

Hi,
I am trying to log on to Google Talk via the Beta Messages app. I get the following error. Any suggestions?
"Messages can't log in to ******@gmail.com because your login ID or password is incorrect"
(I replaced my Google talk ID with ******)
Thanks in advance.
I am running Lion on a 27" imac 2011 edition. All software updates are current.

Okay, this is a new account. Google requires you to authorize access to your account before outside applications can use your Google account.
Using your web browser go to Google's web site and log-in to your Google account
Click on your account name in the top-right corner and select' Account Settings'
Look for 'Authorising applications & sites' and click on the edit link
Follow the steps to create 'Application-specific passwords'
Once you created the 'Application-specific password' you should be able to use it with your Google account in Messages.

  • Why do i need three? - Google Talk Plugin, Google talk plugin video renderer and Google talk plugin video accelerator?

When I check my plugins, the following three, very closely related (in my mind) plugins are listed, and the "Renderer" still shows "Research" when checking to see if it is Up-To-Date. It seems to me I don't need all three. I tried removing the Renderer (yes, I know how to do that safely), but Google seems to continue to reinstall it (with one or both of the other two...?)...I'll ask this on a Google Forum too, since it's their product, but wondered if anyone has any insight. I obsess about plugins that need "Research" - Thanks!
Google Talk Plugin Video Accelerator version:0.1.44.24
    Google Talk Plugin Version 3.15.2.12038
Google Talk Plugin Video Renderer Version 3.15.2.12038

Went to Google Talk Help and found advice to remove the "googletalkplugin_port file on [my] computer."
http://support.google.com/chat/bin/static.py?hl=en&page=known_issues.cs ... and click "Voice and video plug-in unrecognized" under "Currently Known Issues"....
Now, the only Google Talk plugin I have in Firefox is
    Google Talk Plugin Video Renderer
    Version 3.15.2.12038
...but it does indeed remain "Unrecognized" by Mozilla/Firefox...

  • In Messages, is it possible to see when a person is typing for Google Talk account?

In Adium, when in a Google Talk account you can see when a person is typing with a little ... indicator, so you know to wait.
In Messages, that's also how it works with AIM chats - you see a chat bubble indicating the person on the other end is typing.
But in Messages, when in a Google Talk account I'm not seeing any such indicator, so I don't know whether to wait or if the person has simply gone away. Is it possible to get such an indicator in Google Talk inside Messages? If not, I'll just switch back to Adium.
    Thanks,

  • Login ID or password is incorrect for Google Talk in iMessage

    Hi all,
Maybe this question has already occured in prior discussions, however, I cannot find any solutions yet. I can login to my gmail account, can receive emails from Mail on my Mac with no problems. However, I cannot connect to google talk in iMessage where it asks me for the password over and over again. What can I change or can anybody help me out to fix that problem?
    Thank you very much.
    Immanuel

iMessage is still not connecting to Google Talk, and I dont think that Google need more than a day to fix that problem. Any other suggestions? I am 100% sure that my ID and password are correct but iMessage keeps on asking me over and over again that those information will be wrong.
    See picture below.
    Thank you

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I'm no longer able to use Google Talk with the new Messages App.  It worked fine on iChat, but now I cannot enable the account.  When I try to check the enable box, it immediately unchecks itself and nothing happens.  Any suggestions?

  • Can't change Google Talk name in Messages

I'm having trouble changing my displayed name in Messages in Google Chat. In "Internet Accounts", I only have my iCloud account and my Google account, both of which say my name. Additionally, in Messages, all of my accounts say my name. However, my buddy list window for my Google Talk/Jabber account says a different name (its the primary account name used by my family for App Store/iTunes).
What steps can I take to fix this?

    Hi Katie,
If you are using a Microsoft Exchange account, you cannot change the display name. Only your Exchange administrator can make this change. For more information, you can click
    here.
Therefore, if you want to change your display name, please contact your Exchange administrator for more help. For your reference, here is a blog about changing Alias and Display Name in Exchange server(For Exchange 2013, change it in EAC):

  • Problems using Google Talk with Messages

Hello everybody. I have configured my Google Talk account in Messages; everything was working fine, but I came across an annoying issue.
A friend of mine has Google Talk too: he uses Windows with Google's “official” application, together with the web plugin for Gmail. He is in my buddy list and we can chat, but we cannot make voice calls, nor use video chat: I see all buttons greyed out (except the “text chat” one).
Any ideas to make it work?
    Thank you very much

    Hi,
iChat or Messages to a Browser has never worked.
He needs to get a Mac or you need to change to using a Browser.
    The Why.
Google talk run a Jabber server.
Most Jabber App have a module call Jingle Library that does the A/V stuff.  See Jingle
Jingle use different A/V protocols to those used by iChat and Messages.
The linked article seems to get changed fairly regularly.
    Currently it reads
Jingle is an extension to the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) which adds peer-to-peer (P2P) session control (signaling) for multimedia interactions such as in Voice over IP (VoIP) or videoconferencing communications. It was designed by Google and the XMPP Standards Foundation. The multimedia streams are delivered using the Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP). If needed, NAT traversal is assisted using Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE).
As of December 2009, the proposed Jingle specification has not yet been approved by the XMPP Standards Foundation, but is now a Draft Standard, meaning: "Implementations are encouraged and the protocol is appropriate for deployment in production systems, but some changes to the protocol are possible before it becomes a Final Standard."[1]
The libjingle library, used by Google Talk to implement Jingle, has been released to the public under a BSD license. It implements both the current standard protocol and the older, pre-standard version.
I have bolded the last part.
This article has reads that Google (And XXMP/Jabber) "Created" the Jingle process.  In the past the wording around this has varied and the implied involvement by Google has varied along with it.
Before that it did not mention Google in that way and also said the Google version was not that compatible with versions in other Jabber apps.
This "Older" version would be 3 years out to date.
iChat and Messages connect using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) for A/V chats.
This works with an Intervening server acting as an "Telephone Operator" at both ends to check the Acceptability or the Incoming call and the ports to be used  (it also checks that where the Visible Invite went is the person replying/Accepting).
AS you both have Google IDs in may be simpler fro you to use a web Browser and download the Google Web Browser Plugin.
    NOTE:
This may have issues if you use the FLASH Plugin as well.
At one time Google Used Flash to generate the Video and it seems their plugin is very closely "related" in the way it works.

  • I keep getting a notification that says "Google Talk authentication failed"...does anyone know how to get rid of this?  I tried looking for it in the apps but not really sure what google talk is or how to get rid of this message that keeps popping up.

How do i get rid of the message that keeps popping up that says "google talk authentication failed"????

    funwidowlady,
Good afternoon!  I'm glad I can be here to help with this error. In the device this application is identified only as 'Talk', so that be more familiar to you. First I recommend opening the 'Market' app on your phone, then Menu>My Apps to see if this application requires an update. It will display a list on top of all applications that need to be updated. If nothing exists, tap 'Home' and go into 'Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Talk, then tap 'Clear Cache' and 'Clear Data' to remove the history of that application and stop the notifications.  The app will remain on your phone for future use, if you desire to take advantage of it. Thank you!

  • Is there any way to receive Google Talk messages in the iPhone Messages (meaning the text messaging app)?

I want to know if there's any way to receive incoming Google Talk messages in the iPhone Messages app? What I mean by this is the app your receive text messages in. The reason I ask is because in the new "Messages" app for the Mac, you can include your Google Talk account.

If I recall correctly, it's possible to send a Google Talk message out as an SMS (though there are apparently limits on how many in a given time period in order to prevent spam). That would be the only way as far as I know. Messages on the Mac seems to have folded some of iChat's features into it, so it works a bit differently.
    Best of luck.

  • How to initiate a conversation on google talk using the messages app? (I have already added my account and enabled it in the preferences menu of the messages app)

After upgrading to Mountain Lion recently, iMessage (through the messages app) works even better. But because the messages app has now completely replaced the former iChat app, it also has the ability to add google (google talk), yahoo and AIM accounts for instant messaging. I have added my gmail account through the prefernces menu in the messages app and have also enabled it. However I'm unable to start a chat with any of my contacts on gtalk. Once I start a new message and type in the concerned person's google email id (which is on my friends list, added through google talk earlier), I get a message saying the person isn't available on iMessage. I don't see any other option to open a new chat window for my google talk contact who are not on iMessage. Is there anything else that can be done or is it only possible to receive messages on google talk via the messages app on Mountain Lion?

    Try to do this:
    - be sure you have added your GMAIL / GTALK account on Sys pref. Mail Contacts and Calendars
    - Open Messages, preferences, Account. Now you should see iMessage, Gtalk and Bonjour. Try to disable iMessage and Bonjour and see if anything changes.
    Let me know,
    Best

  • Google Talk not working with Messages

I have added the google Talk account in the messages application. But only the jabber account shows in the main window, which was there by default. Am I adding the account properly. Should Messages work like the Windows Google Talk application ?

    HI,
This is somewhat a hangover from the iChat days.
In Messages > Preferences > Accounts  is the GoogleTalk account listed as  Gmail item ?
IF you highlight it and go to "Server Settings" is the server talk.google.com ?
Now go to the Window Menu
Select the Buddies item (you probably still have a combined list)
The Buddy List should now appear.
GO to the Preferences > General section and untick the item about gathering Buddy list into one list
You may now have more than one Buddy list
Instead of being called "Buddies" it will take on the name of the Account ....
    The exceptions to this are:-
Generic AIM Logins will be Called AIM Buddy List if there is only one
Generic Jabber Logins will lbe listed as "Jabber" Buddy list if there is only one Jabber list
(you can also have Yahoo and Bonjour)
IF in the Preferences > Accounts you add details to the Description Line  then the Buddy List gets called this
IF you don't name or Describe the accounts and have more than one (Jabber and /or AIM) then they get named with the Screen Name or ID.
    Account and Buddy list "Named"
This now carries over to the text entry field/box in the main Messages Window where the ID or Screen Name you will be chatting from is listed in that Text field.
IF you only have one Jabber Account And Googletalk is a Jabber account it will read "Jabber" unless you have more Jabber accounts or add a Description

  • When I click on the icon in the dock, a message appears about not being able to verify google talk

I installed google talk as my main phone communications.  Something happened when I was using firefox that took out my whole chat system on firefox, chrome, and safari.  I am able to use it again on firefox after uninstalling and re-installing firefox.  I have not had luck getting it to work on Safari or chrome again.  When I click on the ichat icon in the dock, a message appears saying that Safari can not verify google talk.  Does anyone have a solution?

    Hi,
I take it you mean you installed the Intel Only Browser Plug-in to use the Chat Functions on the Google Mail Web Page in Video and Audio Chat ?
It now works in only one Browser which is Firefox.
The bit you post about using the iChat icon to launch iChat but get a message about Safari seems a bit odd.
iChat does not use Safari to check the password of Log In.
If you Click and hold the iChat icon in th DOCK and then select Show In Finder what app is then highlighted in the Applications folder ?
Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the Browser Plug-in ?
Also check the KeyChain and the Access Tab of the Google Talk info in there.
    KeyChain Access is in Applications/Utilities.
Find your Google Talk info and double Click it
The new panel has an Access Tab
That can be set to allow only certain apps to use the info (Password).

  • Messages is not displaying avatars from google talk account

I'm newer to using messages on my macbook pro. I've just recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and am loving the integration with imessage and my other chat client (google talk). Unfortunately, I'm not seeing all the nice avatars that are on my google talk account in messages. How can I get those to pull into the app? Or, if I have to, how do I add them manually?

I too had the the same problem, but i solved it by the followin method.
    Step 1 : Enable 2 setp verification from gmail.com (https://www.google.com/settings/security)
Step 2 : Go to Manage in Connected applications and sites tab
Step 3 : Generate application specific password.
Step 4 : Now go to system preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calenders > Google tab (If already) > details> enter your username and then the application specific password
Step 5 : In iChat preferences , you'll now see the google acc with greyed out username and password and a single option of Enable this account.
Step 6 : Now it should work

  • Google Talk Messages Only Appear In Notification Center

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, instant messages from Google Talk only appear in Notification Center. (IM's between iCloud and AIM work fine.) On one occasion, I was able to double-click on the incoming IM from Google Talk, and it opened in the Messages app. However, subsequent IM's are effectively trapped in Notification Center. I am unable to single or double-click on them to reply. The only indication that I see to know a new IM from Google Talk has arrived is Message's icon bounces once in the Dock, and gets badged with the number of new messages.
This was not a problem using the Messages Beta with Lion, which did not have Notification Center as a feature. The only interesting Messages related message I find in the Console is:
7/30/12 12:11:45.733 pm Messages[5475]: *** WARNING: -[NSImage compositeToPoint:fromRect:operation:fraction:] is deprecated in MacOSX 10.8 and later. Please use -[NSImage drawAtPoint:fromRect:operation:fraction:] instead.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Timothy Arends1, if you want notifications to be displayed in the notification center, just set the one you want to see in the "INCLUDE" section.
Settings > Notifications > Edit > Touch the bars on the right of the app you want to be notified and drag into the INCLUDE section.

  • Messages won't connect to AIM, Google Talk, or Jabber anymore

I know there's a few discussion threads out there already, but I've tried everything and it still doesn't work.
The last few days, I haven't been able to connect to the following services on Messages (OS X 10.8.2) anymore:
    AIM
    Google Talk
    Jabber (Facebook Chat)
None of my settings have change, and I've tried disabling and re-enabling the accounts.  I've messed with every setting and still can't get it to connect.
My internet connection is fine, and I can still connect to Yahoo.  I don't know why these other services won't work.
    Any help would be great!

    Hi,
In System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall is the Firewall On ?
IF it is ON then in Firewall Options is the "Allow Signed Software" box ticked ?
IF that is is Messages AND IMAgent allowed ?
IMAgent is the item that deals with login to AIM and Jabber servers  (but NOT Yahoo ones).
It is likely that for some reason IMAgent is not being allowed.
Can you also check the Keychain (Keychain Access in Applications/Utilities)
For your AIM and Jabber IDs check the info panel > Access Tab is also allowing Messages and IMAgent if it is restricting the names to specific apps.
