Messages gone

i woke up this morning & all my text messages have been erased.  Any idea how to retrieve them or why they have been deleted?  don't like it since i didn't do it.

I have provided information below on how to save and protect important messages.  These instructions are from the owners manual for the Droid Incredible, but should also work for other Droid devices.  I also recommend that those with other devices visit us at www.verizomwireless.com and locate the manual that goes with your phone.
Protecting a message from deletion
You can lock a message so that it will not be deleted even if you delete the other messages
in the conversation.
Press HOME , and then tap > Messages.
On the All messages screen, tap a message thread.
Press and hold the message that you want to lock
Tap Lock message on the options menu.
A lock icon is displayed at the right hand side of the message.
Deleting a message thread
Press HOME , and then tap > Messages.
On the All messages screen, tap the message thread that you want to delete.
Press MENU, and then tap Delete.
When prompted to confirm, tap OK.
Any locked messages in the thread will not be deleted unless you select the Delete locked messages
check box.
Deleting several message threads
Press HOME , and then tap > Messages.
On the All messages screen, press MENU, and then tap Delete.
Select the message threads you want to delete.
Tap Delete. Any locked messages will not be deleted.
Deleting a single message
While viewing a message thread, press and hold the message that you want to delete.
If the message is locked, tap Unlock message on the options menu, and then press and
hold the message to display the options menu again.
Tap Delete message on the options menu.
When prompted to confirm, tap OK.
Viewing contact details and communicating with a contact
When you have received a message from someone in your stored contacts, you can tap the
contact’s photo or icon in the message thread to open a menu of options. Depending on
the stored contact information, you can view the contact details, phone or send an email
message to the contact, and more.
Thank You

  • Sent messages gone from Time Machine

I posted this on the Time Machine forum and they sent me here. I have several issues, one of which is Mail going offline frequently throughout the day when I have not instructed it to do so, and refusing to go on-line when I request it. I have to close the program, reopen it, and it's back on-line. A few minutes later, it's offline again. I read in the Discussions to trash the prefs and re-enter all my account info. I didn't get that far because as soon as I trashed the prefs all my Sent mails were gone. I went into Time Machine to retrieve them and they aren't there. I've tried rebuilding the Mailboxes, no go. I also dragged the prefs out of the Trash and put them back. Still nothing. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong and where my e-mails went? Thanks.

This issue sounds suspiciously similar to my recent post ... Mail 4.2 is "deleting" all of my downloaded POP Inbox and Sent messages older than 30 days and these are not available in my Time Machine either.
I was always able to access old messages well beyond 30 days (even 2 years old) but now it appears that the only things left are the headers in those mail boxes. I just noticed this this week.
Check out my post and share any thoughts ... thanks so much, Greg

  • Old messages gone in Mail.app, but still present via .Mac Webmail.

Hi. I have a .Mac account set up as IMAP in the Mail application and cannout figure out where all my old messages went. I have tried everything- there are no rules that delete them, there are no other computers or anything else involving POP in the setup... This has all worked flawlessly for years and all of the sudden the Mail application won't show the messages in my inbox if it is older than about a week. However, directly above the few recent messages left are about 15 very old Apple-sent emails (newsletters, etc).
I have tried rebuilding it in the application but it still wont show the other older messages (yet they are fully visible in the webmail viewer on the website).
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Sam

Oh no!!!! I just checked the webmail and those are gone, too! What can I do? This must have something to do with the system maintenance that they're doing, right?

  • All sent messages gone?

A few days ago (9/1/2008) I checked my sent box in mail, and all my sent messages were gone. I think everything was normal before when I checked it a few days earlier (8/27/08). I can't find any place to ask about missing email... Who do I contact?
Thanks for any assistance in advance.

For some reason this system won't let me edit my original post...
Edit: Now that I remember, I was having issues when I was removing my mail account from my old laptop three weeks ago ... I deleted files in Mail's library folder, and thought that was all I needed to do to disassociate Mail with my account (since that's how apps in linux work); however, I didn't realize that .Mac (now MobileMe) was still set in the system preferences, and for some reason Mail kept on syncing my mail account. I didn't lose any messages in my inbox, but could this have caused all the mail in my sent box to be deleted? I never actually deleted the messages within the app, so I'm not sure why Mail would delete only sent messages and not messages in the inbox.

  • OEMS/10.1.3.2 MDB/AQ via Resource Adapter - message gone but no "onMessage"

Hi I have a very simple ear file containing an EJB/MDB and a JMS Resource Adapter configured to listen to an AQ, JMS Provider. What I see happening is that messages are gone from the AQ (after some time), I also see some ejb activitiy - enabled via logging - but my onMessage is never called. Was could be causing this?

Things are getting stranger by the minute (for me)
I've just changed my PL/SQL procedure to include at least one of the JMS properties which seem necessary for MDB's to pick things up: JMS_OracleDeliveryMode. With that change, and making sure the rest of the header properties (like username) were in order, I saw my MDB picking up messages that were enqueue via PL/SQL... but.... only if a MDB instance was readily available.
Whenever ejbRemove() was called by the container, entering another JMS message in the queue using PL/SQL didn't result in the onMessage() being called. Message where still available in 'READY' state. Now what is really disturbing is that whenever I called my standalone Java client to enter a new JMS message, obviously this was picked up - but as a side effect every subsequent enqueue using PL/SQL also resulted in onMessage() being called.

  • Option to alter view of conversations in Messages gone

As per the title, in Mavericks you were able to alter the way that conversations displayed in Messages, you had a choice of three options via the View menu. In Yosemite, that option in the menu has gone and the only way to view conversations is the speech bubbles look á la iOS, I preferred one of the other views when viewing Messages on a desktop .

    for the   Points
It does seem that the general push to make the OS more like iOS does lead to this situation where something that worked and was understood no longer fits that criteria.
I think most people would understand that a Computer version of something is capable of offering more.
In Messages (and ichat before that) you used to be able to Format Text chats. ( It is still possible, to a lesser extent that earlier versions, but you have to go to System Preferences > Accessibility and Reduce Transparency then Restart Messages) The standard Preferences Pane and Format Menu have been removed.
The iOS version can apply any sound that is on the iPhone or iPad to a particular Contact when they "call " in various apps.
This is no longer possible in Messages on the Mac.
It does seem that in an attempt to streamline various interfaces to match the two OS versions that functions are being withdrawn.

  • Saved-messages gone

I save important messages in Mail in a folder called saved-messages.imapmbox. When I opened Mail today, they were all gone. I recently installed the 10.4.8 update...
Where could they have gone? Is there any way to find or restore them?
    Thanks for any help.
    Bill

I don't know what may have caused the messages to be deleted.
If Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Keep copies of messages for offline viewing is set to All messages and their attachments for this account, then Mail 2.x would have stored a local copy of the messages as *.emlx files on your disk as long as the messages were still on the server.
If the messages are not on the server, and you don't have a backup, your only option is to try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage. Of these, the only one I know for sure that can recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

  • IPhone 4 messages gone, and I can't send new ones

Just a few minutes ago, I switched to my messages (and I had gone through them only a minute previously) and all of my stored messages are gone. I can still see their contents in the search bar, but whenever I try to access it through there, my messages app crashes and I still get nothing.
The only link or cause I can think of this (and it is a bit of a long shot) is that someone may have tried to FaceTime me around the time the messages vanished. I only suggest that because of the post on the forums about FaceTime after April.
I also tried to send a text message after they all vanished and I'm unable to - the "Send" button remains grey and tapping it does nothing.
Does anyone know how to fix that, and restore all the missing messages if possible (my backups aren't quite recent enough to get a full recovery).
Would post my iOS version, but the "checking for update" screen is stuck loading.

Also worth noting that while I can't give the exact version of iOS, it's after iOS 7, and ym device is not and never has been jailbroken.

  • All message gone after turn on the handphone and p...

The day before yesterday, when i was listening to music using my N97 phone. It run out of
battery and it automatically turned off. After i came home, i charge it using my power
cable and turned it while it was charging. Then i leaved it alone until few hours later
it was fully charged and i found a message received from my friend. When i opened it, i
found all my messages are gone. including those in INBOX, OUTBOX and old messages in "My
Folder". I also checked the phone memory and only 1K of data left as messages.
    How could that be happening?
After that I tried to synchronize the messages back from my old phone, N73, since most of
the old messages are transfered from it. I used the same way as I did last time when I
transfered the messages, contacts and calendar entries, which is, go to N73 Menu -> Tools
-> Transfer -> Phones -> My N97, Options -> Edit, choose Sync data as Text Messages. then
back and Options -> Synchronise. After a while, it shows that 1000+ messages are
retrieved to the N73 phone( which is weird because it should send the messages instead of
retrieving). Then when i check out messages on both phone and found out that 2 messages
are transfered to the N97 INBOX which are the last messages in the INBOX and 2 messages
are transfered to the N97 Outbox which are the last messages in the OUTBOX too. But the
rest are not transfered. Then I check out my N73. and found out that most of my messages
are gone except less than 5 text message, few MMS and some Bluetooth files(which should
not exist in the OUTBOX because I usually delete it after successful transfer the files)
    exist.
This is also ridiculous because I did the same action for synchronizing phones before
with exactly same setting and that one working fine. But this one most are missing. Even
if I did some setting wrong, I should lose all the messages instead of most but few left.
And most weird part is that some files that did not exist in my OUTBOX before exist in it
    now.
Can anyone tell me how to recover those lost messages? Or give any explanation about
    this? THANKS!!!!

OK, here are more specific instructions:
    1. Open Finder (double-click the Finder icon in the Dock).
    2. On the left side of the resulting Finder window click on Applications.
    3. Double-click on "Image Capture".
    4. Follow the instructions above.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Mac mail help - saved messages gone blank, lost data??

Entire email folders of mine seem to have lost all the content in them - all that remains is the heading detail on the individual emails.
It happens without much consistency -
Sometimes I will use the folder, move messages to it and they will be fine, as normal,
Then later on I will discover that ALL of the messages in this folder will seemingly have lost their data and gone blank.
It makes no difference whether viewing in the mac mail pane or opening the message up directly.
It wont happen to all folders or all subfolders
Is there a safe way of getting the messages back and preventing it happening any more?
I say 'safe' as reading through other similar threads years ago I saw suggestions about rebuilding mail boxes which others then mentioned that it completely wiped their entire mail boxes - the thought of that fills me with fear.
Im running an 2.8 Ghz i5 27" Desktop on Yosemite 10.10.1 - but it has been happening since Mountain Lion at least - Ive had this issue a few times but it seemed to be very limited and isolated, but in the last 6 months Ive noticed it happening to entire folders and I cannot let my records just evaporate like this!
(I run my home-office with it and cannot lose these records and correspondence)
Thanks in advance, distressed and frustrated.

  • IPhone hacked or virus!  Text messages gone and phone freezing!

CALL APPLE SUPPORT ASAP IF YOU HAVE THIS ISSUE!!!!  They don't respond to these discussions!
    (800) MY-IPHONE (800-694-7466)
My wife and I woke up this morning with a text message on both our iPhone 5 and 4s (running on Sprint) for $10 for Microsoft Office.  We did not click on the text, but our text message app crashed.  Then our texts disappeared and reappeared after rebooting, and we deleted the suspicious text but could not access any of our other texts.
It has been hours later and we can't text and our messages are there and then gone, our phone keeps on freezing on other apps, and my iPhone 5 screen is flickering.  We both received another $10 Microsoft Office text and were able to delete it again.
We have rebooted, turned off, let the phone rest 30 minutes off, etc. and our phones are still worthless.  They appear to work for a while and then start acting up again.
I called Apple  (800) MY-IPHONE (800-694-7466) and spoke to a senior customer assistant, Brittney, who said I was the only person reporting this problem.  I told her there were threads here with the exact same issues and she told me they don't respond to problems reported here since it is just a discussion board and only do something if you call them. She suggested for me to do a full restore to factory setting on my phone but showed no real concern why this happened to our phones...
Our phones either have been hacked or have a virus and this is a huge issue!  If you have this problem, please call Apple ASAP.

Virus contamination of a non-jailbroken iPhone hasn't been documented yet- that doesn't guarantee impossibility.
No, it doesn't. But it's highly unlikely that is what happened.
A single text message should not result in a crashing of the Messaging app, nor freezing of the entire phone, nor automatic shutdown as it's resulted in at least seven people within the forum today.
There are/were several documented bugs that could cause EXACTLY that behavior when receiving a malformed text message.
Note that none of this constitutes "infection" of the phone, or "hacking" as in unauthorized accessing of information by a third party.

  • Ahhh Renamed Mailbox and all Sent Messages GONE!

I have years of sent messages I need to get back to now suddenly gone after I renamed my mailbox in Accounts. I NEED them back, and can't find them anywhere on my computer, or through my webmail. All I wanted to do was rename it a little to make selecting the right mailbox a little easier, I had no idea this would happen (and it shouldn't). HELP!

Alright, false alarm, kind of. It turns out for some reason all of my sent messages randomly went to another sent account, go figure. They are all there, I just had to manually move them back (thank god for rules!) Can you just make this work like it should Apple?
However, I am still seeing something which is kind of weird. Hundreds of my messages from several different accounts are reading sent dates before the accounts were even open. Why is this happening? Thanks.

  • IChats "show last messages" gone in Messages?

iChat used to have a feature where we could opt in to have it show a history of the last messages with any given contact. I can't find this in Mountain Lion Messages?

Oh no!!!! I just checked the webmail and those are gone, too! What can I do? This must have something to do with the system maintenance that they're doing, right?

  • Inbox full message when not full, repair Inbox but all messages gone & empty Inbox keeps thinking

With an Inbox full message and couldn't download messages any more, I moved most messages to another folder under Archive but still get the same message. Reading from others' posts, I repaired Inbox but all messages there is gone and it keeps thinking forever. Tried compacting Inbox, it keeps thinking. Tried reboot and compacting (all) folders, it keeps thinking. Also deleted inbox.msf, which only one unused out of several email account's folder has, but no help. Sometimes when Inbox stops thinking, checking mail still gets Inbox full message. Wasted a whole morning already ... any idea please?

reboot your computer into safe mode with networking to stop your anti virus interfering and then compact your folders etc.

  • Are messages gone after not restoring with iCloud?

Because of a bad backup with iCloud my CameraRoll did not work correctly. So i decided to restore my iphone through itunes, but not restore with Icloud untill after I got into the iphone. I saw then when i synced with icloud again the messages did not sync.... does that mean the messages are gone forever?

If the device was backed up prior to the update (it should have been as this is part of the update process) simply restore from the backup.  Otherwise they are gone.
Why do you choose to not backup the device regularly?  The same "loss of data" would occur should the device fail, be lost, or stolen.
