Messages in Drafts Folder gone missing

Hi folks,
I'm having an annoying problem with mail at the moment. I had 6 or 7 messages saved in the drafts folder of Mail.app, just now I went to do some work on one of the drafts and discovered that it is not in the drafts folder, along with another missing draft, leaving me with only 5 drafts.
I have done a search in Mail.app of all the folders using appropriate keywords, did the same with spotlight to search for it but it has totally disappeared. I have tried searching the forums here and on Google and the only clue was to rebuild the mailbox, but when i tried to do this the "Rebuild Mailbox" option was greyed-out so I couldn't do it.
This is on 10.4.4 with Mail.app version 2.0.5
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

If you open the Mail folder, in the Finder (Home/Library/Mail/the subject account's POP folder) and find the Drafts.mbox folder within the POP account folder for this account, what are the files within? In the folder within, named Messages how many messages (.emlx) files are shown?
More info, please.

  • Error Message about drafts folder ("Mailbox does not exist")

Hi, after adding a third account to my Thunderbird desktop, I keep receiving the following Error Message every 30 seconds or so:
"the current operation on drafts did not succeed. the mail server for account [email protected] responded: Mailbox does not exist"
Can anyone help fixing this? Sending and receiving mail seems to work just fine.
    Thanks so much,
    Eli

    Th'''anks for your answer!
I tried what you suggested, however I don't appear to have a "Drafts" folder at all where you said, will it be enough to create one and then subscribe and configure it?
EDIT: I now created a new folder named "Drafts" from the main interface, then did what Mr Rodríguez suggested, which appears to be working.
Thanks so much for your help!!

  • Mail quits unexpectedly, infinite messages in drafts folder.

Background info: I'm using an imap aol mail account and the mail application on Leopard 10.5
I was writing an email this morning and continued to notice that every few seconds I saw "Sending message" appearing under Mail Activity. Thinking that it was sending the message I was writing before I was done with it, I went and took all accounts offline. After finishing my message, I took all accounts online again, but then the application quit unexpectedly. I relaunched and it did the same thing again. So I went in and went offline before it quit on me again, and found 71 drafts in my draft folder. All the times when it said 'Sending message' were stored as a draft. I deleted them, and it quit again. Upon relaunching I found that the number of messages just kept increasing. Thus, infinitely many messages were in the draft folder.
My question is how can I completely remove the mail application and all it's preferences so that I can start it again?

  • Folder gone missing

Can't find d blackberry folder containing some of my pctures and music files. How do I get it back pls.

It's not missing, there just is no icon associated with folders on your Media Card. You have the choice of certain folders on your BB device or Media Card. Nothing else. You can use one of two methods to find these files:
If you are running an OS previous to 5.0 then follow this:
Go to your media folder, hit the menu key, and select "Explore". You can browse the folders to find the files you are looking for.
If you are running and OS that is 5.0 or later follow this:
Go to your applications folder and find the "File" application. This will allow you to browse the files on your BB device.
Disclaimer: I'm just a regular user like the rest of you. I have spent a lot of time learning the limitations of the Blackberries to know how to fix most problems. If I have suggested a fix, please give a kudo and mark as a solution!

  • HT3529 How I can find the message tab which has gone missing on my iPhone?

Hi, the message tab has disappeared on my iphone.  If I want to message I have to go through the contacts tab.  I can repsond to messages alerts directly but thats about it.

By "message tab" I assume you mean the messages app.  It can't be deleted from your phone, look on all you screens and inside all your folders.  If you still can't find it after searching go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.  This will reset the home screen to its original configuration, including the messages app, but may move other apps around to accomplish this.

  • Throttling policies and clearing drafts folder

    Hi all,
We run Exchange 2010 SP3.  We recently had an issue where a users password was compromised due to a phishing email.  Our Barracuda Spam firewall prevented
much of it from getting out into the Internet, but the Exchange queue between our CAS servers and the Barracuda got so big that no email was being sent at all.  To try and prevent this from happening again I am testing out using Exchange throttling policies.
I have tested out the following policy that only allows users to send out one email message per minute:
    new-throttlingPolicy -name LimitMessages -MessageRateLimit 1
I tested this policy on my own account, I noticed that you can send as many messages as you want, but they'll just end up in the drafts folder and eek out one
minute at a time.  Which is great, i'd rather this happen than email be down.  However, when I tried to empty my drafts folder, I got the following error:
"Some items cannot be deleted.  They were either moved or already deleted, or access was denied"
After getting this message, the drafts folder looks clear for a second, but then all of the messages come right back.  This creates a problem as, if someones
password gets compromised again, their drafts folder could potentially have 10s of thousands of email messages in it, waiting to be sent out.  How would I delete them all?

    Hi,
I recommend you check the size of the dumpster, if the dumpster is full, may caused this issue.
You can try the following method and check if any helps:
1.Run the following command to clean the dumpster out:
    Search-mailbox -identity userid -SearchDumpsterOnly -DeleteContent
2.If the issue persist, try to move the mailbox to other database and check the result.
    Thanks.

  • Several messages were in the Drafts folder when my isp went off line suddenly and when it came back hours later the draft messages were gone. How do I find them

I had 8 or 10 messages in the drafts folder. I had Thunderbird open when my isp had equipment problems and suddenly went off line on February 19, 2015. When it came back online the next morning all those drafts were gone. Is there some way I can retrieve them? If so, please send directions on how to do it. Thank you for any help you can give me.

The top folder was Local Folders with Inbox, Sent Mail, Drafts, Trash and Archives under it. I had several messages in Archives and they went away when the Drafts messages went. Actually the only folder that wasn't emptied was the inbox. Those messages re-downloaded from the web mail.
What I understand from what you've written is that unless something was done when the mail account was set up, all my mail was on att/yahoo mail and they're the ones that lost my drafts.
If I'm wrong about it being an IMAP account and it was really POP, would that make a difference?

  • 'Concept' or 'Drafts' folder counts send messages, but folder empty (IMAP)

In mail my 'concept' (dutch) or 'drafts' folder counter says there are messages in the folder, but the folder is empty.
Everytime i send a message with mail, my concepts folder counts up. When going to my Webmail en delte the "drafts" folder, The whole folder is gone. But when sending a new message the folder appears again, and counting up for every new message witch is send.
The folder is always empty, and the 'counter' disappears when looking in the folder but can appear again every moment.
    Synchronising the account doesn't help.
Iam working on a Intel Imac, using a Imap server with 2 different accounts.

    You're welcome.
There seems to be nothing amiss in your account folder, and from the description of what you did, it looks like trying to synchronize mail on both computers is indeed the cause of your problems. Synchronization of local mail data between computers by means of a file synchronization utility is a really bad idea if more than one computer is allowed to access mail between synchronizations.
The most prominent issue is that Mail keeps a reference to every message within the ~/Library/Mail/ folder in a global Envelope Index file. If this file is modified in more than one computer between synchronizations, there is no way a file synchronization utility can handle the situation properly.
Another, more subtle, and potentially more dangerous issue, is that Mail may use different *.emlx sequence numbers to name the same message in different computers or, worse yet, the same sequence number to name different messages in different computers. Again, the only thing a file synchronization utility can do about it is either overwrite files with the same name (thus potentially losing data) or not synchronize them at all.
Mail data "synchronization" at the filesystem level can only be done reliably if it's a one-way operation, i.e. if the entire contents of the Mail folder in one of the computers are overwritten by the entire contents of the other, and even then it may not work properly because of the issues described here:
    Mac Backup Software Harmful
You're going to have to re-create both the index and the entire contents of the .Mac account folder on both computers:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong -- e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down.
    3. Locate the Envelope Index file and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any "Mac-" or "IMAP-" account folder (Mac-neilwedlake in your case) to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. Doing the same with "POP-" account folders would cause all mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail and proceed to re-create the index -- Mail says it's "importing", but it just re-creates Envelope Index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder.

When I am writing an email, I get an alert message that says “The message could not be copied or moved to the drafts folder. Writing to the folder failed. To gain disc space, choose Empty Deleted and choose Compact Folders and try again.”
If I do that, I get a message saying “There was an error copying to the Sent folder,, retry?”
If I retry it sends the uncompleted email. All I can do is keep deleting the message and carry on. Then the whole business might repeat itself.

Because the location for each song in your library is on your hard drive.  If the hard drive isn't there, how can iTunes play it?
You'll have to move/copy the music from your hard drive to your computer's hard drive.
Basically, EASIEST way to do all this, if you don't care about your play counts, etc...
-Delete EVERYTHING from iTunes, so that your library is now empty.
-Go to "Advanced" inside of the "Preferences" window, found in the "Edit" drop-down.  You can also access Preferences by pressing Ctrl+, (Press Ctrl and the comma key)
-Change your iTunes Media Folder Location to something simple, but on your computer. I use C:/iTunes.  Make sure "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" and "Copy files to...." are both checked.  You can close Preferences now.
-Now, drag and drop your music from your hard drive into your iTunes library.  iTunes will automatically add the music to your library, as you would expect, and also creates a copy of each file to place into that iTunes Media Folder you just created.
    Shouldn't have any more problems...

  • Mail Messages Going To Drafts Folder

Almost every mail message I compose - both new messages and replies - are showing up in the Drafts folder.  These seem to be identical to messages after they are sent and appearing in the Sent folder.  I'm not saving them at any time, so why would these messages go to "Drafts"?
    Thanks,
    JD

While indeed unchecking this option stops the behavior, it's not the best of solutions.  The options to save drafts on server is available with any decent IMAP program, and generally is very beneficial.  Say I start a message on my Mac, and then have to leave before it's done.  If it's saved to the server, I can then pick this message up later on my iPhone or iPad and complete it and send it.  Or I can start it on an iOS device, have it save to the server from there, and then pick it up on my Mac later to complete.
So, the functionality of "Save drafts on server" is widely known amongst IMAP clients, and it would be nice if Apple Mail would simply replace a previous draft of a particular message with the latest version rather than piling up multiple versions of the email.  Also, it's customary that when you eventually send the message, the drafts also disappear.
It would also help if there was a way to increase the auto-save time to a longer setting so that they don't pile up so fast.

  • IPhone Deletes eMail message when moving to Draft Folder

    Hi, here's a nice bug.
I repled to a message, but it failed to send it so it wnet into the Outbox automatically. I came back later and decided to move it to the draft folder. "Poof", the message is instead deleted. Nice feature, Apple.
Anyone know where to submit bugs - is that the same place you submit suggestions 4 improvement?

I called apple about this bug a few weeks ago. It is an error with any POP email accounts. You cannot move emails between folders, they dissapear. They are working on the problem they told me.

I am running Mail 2.1.3. For some reason I am no longer able to delete draft messages from my Drafts folder. It is by no means a serious problem, just annoying! Can anyone figure this out? Thanks.

Hi Dubaiman, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I'm having trouble finding exactly where that is stored, but maybe move these to the Desktop in case we want to put them back, quit Mail first...
