Messages in "Sent Mail" were never actually sent.

We recently switched to Snow Leopard exchange, and switched from Microsoft Entourage to Mac Mail. Ever since the switch, I have realized that I am not getting any notifications if an email is not able to be sent.
I am normally able to send emails fine, but now and then, usually on emails with large attachments, the email never makes it to the recipient. These messages do not sit in my Outbox - they act as if they have been properly sent, and appear in my Sent Mail along with all the properly sent messages. When I was using Entourage and other email clients, I used to get a Delivery Status Notification that would let me know if a message was not able to be sent. At a minimum, it would be stuck in my Outbox so I at least knew it didn't get sent.
Is there any way for me to find out when a message was not successfully sent? This is a huge deal at my place of business, as we rely on email communication. I need to know if a message did not go through!

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
In order to protect against an overzealous SPAM filter somewhere in the path of the messages, you should resend one of these to someone you know did not receive. Open the message in the Sent mailbox, choose Message/Send Again from the menubar, then click on Format/Make Plain Text.
If you composed and sent in Rich Text Format, there is always a chance the RTF (which is a subset of HTML) will be deemed by a filter to be SPAM or worse, and stopped or removed. When a filter is so involved, you will not get any notice of delivery failure.

  • Sent Mail not found in sent file

This started a few weeks ago.   Sometimes when I send a new message,  it does not show up in my sent file, leaving me wondering if it was sent at all,  and preventing me from reviewing the email too.
I looked in preferences for MAIL  and I do not see a way this could be a  choice that I somehow allowed.  I do have most of my sent file emails,  just occasionally don't have all of them.   One did go through,  the recipient answered back.
I have the Snow Leopard limited version of iCloud and use the MAIL  on iMac most of the time.  The disappearing sent emails are the same in both locations.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks

    Hi Ric,
I have the exact same problem - I do also have two "sent" folders.
It's like this: when I send from my web-mail the sent mails is in "sent folder 1" - when I send from the application Mail the sent mails ends up in "Sent folder 2"

  • Office365 Mail sometimes not actually sent

We have a faculty member using Apple Mail to connect via Exchange to his Office365 email account. Periodically when he sends a message, Apple Mail behaves as though the message is being sent and files the message in the Sent folder, but the message never actually appears in either his Office365 web mail or in the intended recipient's account. There seems to be a breakdown between Apple Mail and the Office365 service, but Mail is unaware that a problem occurred. Any suggestions?

What you are describing along with the fix that works sounds like a memory issue.  I tell all of our users that mobile devices in general work better with a weekly stop of all running apps and reset.  It is not an elegant solution but as a practical matter it makes things work way better.  I'd guess that 10-15% of the  posts placed on these forums are solved by a reset such as described in these articles..

  • Sent emails were never received

I sent emails out Sunday night (2/19/2012) from my .me account and they were never received by the recipients.  I thought perhaps there was an issue using the blind copy field only, however even after re-sending the emails one by one they still were not received.  Was there any issues Sunday night that anyone is aware of?  I'm not sure if all my others emails and responses are actually getting out..  I know some are, and they all show up in sent..., but I'm worried!

Contacting the iTunes Store can be done by going to - http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/.  At the bottom left, you will see a "contact support" link.  Just select it, then select "iTunes Store", and follow the on screen instructions.  The final screen will give you an option to "email, chat or call" them.  You may see one, two or all these options, however it changes depending on what they have available at the time of contact.

  • HT1694 Exchange sent mail going to hotmail sent folder

Why are my messages sent with my exchange exchange account going to my hotmail sent folder? This is happening on my iPad and my iPhone.

Hmmmm...... perhaps if you took the time to read instructions.
Did you save the add-on XPI file and install it in Thunderbird like the instructions said. Or try and install it in Firefox, get the inevitable failure and complain here that it is not compatible. The web site offers instructions. Perhaps if you read these. http://chrisramsden.vfast.co.uk/3_How_to_install_Add-ons_in_Thunderbird.html That add-on works with the current version.
"You don't recall any read only" Right click any file you copied off the DVD. Select properties and there you have a read only flag.
Do you have anti virus software running? Disable any part of it involving SPAM, TRASH Phishing and email.

  • Sent mail not showing in sent box

The last few days emails that I send through my Yahoo account seem to sit in the drafts folder after I hit send and not move over to the sent folder. Lately they are not appearing in either box, yet the recipients are receiving the mail.
Sometimes the emails just stay in drafts no matter what I do or how many times I resend. And yes, the recipients are receiving multiple copies.
If anyoe has experienced this or can offer assistance I would appreciate it much.
    Thank you,

Thank for the tip. the server appears to match and it is in fact online.
Still having the same issues. I appreciate your help.
    Anyone else have a suggestion?

  • How to determine the difference between a user sent mail and an auto-sent mail by another program?

    Hi,
I am currently capturing the item_send event in an Outlook (2010/13) addin which then processes the email before it sends.  Will this event fire for an email that is generated and sent automatically, i.e. without the user clicking the send button?  For
example there may be another addin installed that emails hourly logs somewhere, or gives the user an option click another button to send a generated email to their support team.
Ideally, I would like my addin code in the item_send event to only run when the user has purposely sent the email themselves from a draft email by clicking the send button.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

  • After importing received and set messages from Opera Mail, Thunderbird works fine but does not save sent messages to Sent folder, even though messages are sent

I successfully imported messages from Opera Mail. Initially the Sent mailbox was not showing in Thunderbird. A quick removal and fresh installation solved that, but Thunderbird does not save the sent messages to the Sent box, where the imported Opera Mail messages are stored. Even though messages are not saved, they are sent correctly. The image attached shows the error message.

Probably a name-confuse If you store sent on mailserver it has to have the right name. (subscribe)
You could set up under Account settings / copies and folders (maps) Sent pointing to the right local folder.

  • How to download the "Sent Mail" folder from Gmail to Mail 4.1?

Since updating to Snow Leopard I no longer have any mail in my Sent Mail folder
when using IMAP in Mail 4.1. In fact just a few (258) of all my sent messages (3732)
    were properly downloaded.
I noticed that after configuring my Gmail to work with Mail/IMAP some new folders were
created. They are: [Gmail]/Sent Mail/Sent, [Imap]/Drafts, Sent messages, and Deleted Messages. Apart
from those, my Gmail account has always had standard folders such as Inbox, Sent Mail (the majority of my sent messages are in here), Drafts, Spam, and Trash. Apparently Mail is only downloading the messages from the new "Sent messages" folder and not the standard "Sent Mail", wherein all my sent messages actually are.
Another issue it that the spinning gear next to the Gmail Inbox in Mail 4.1 keeps spinning incessantly as if checking for new messages all the time even though it is set to check for new messages every 5 minutes and all messages has been downloaded. I have another IMAP account for my university's email which is working perfectly (neither problems with Sent Mail folder nor spinning gear). I will post the spinning gear problem in a separate question.
In my old MacBook I didn't have this problem when using Gmail with POP. This is the first time I'm using IMAP.
Is anybody having the same problems?
I appreciate your help in advance.

you can change Your Sent mailbox to "Sent Mail". select Sent Mail mailbox, go to mailbox menu->use this mailbox for->sent.

  • Sent mail problem

I have constant problems of one sort or the other with the mail app. One thing I have noticed is that sent messages do not consistently appear in the "Sent" mailbox, even if actually sent. I can, however, sometimes find the message by doing a word, or person, search.
Is there anything that will correct this?

Good question! One I sent this morning was a Gmail and it was found in "Archive." (along with several copies in Google "Trash."

That's how Gmail works, unless you modify its behavior.
Gmail isn't true IMAP, so it does some weird things with email, and Mail does some weird things to it trying to make it behave like an IMAP server.
Gmail doesn't really have folders or mailboxes. It tags messages with Labels.
A message can have multiple Labels assigned, so it can show up in many different folders in Mail.
When a message comes in, it is tagged with both "Inbox" and "All Mail" labels. When you move it to the Trash in Mail, Mail removes the Inbox label but doesn't change the All Mail label (Google does the same on the Gmail web portal). So, Google stores all of the email you've ever sent or received in this All Mail location. How do you expect them to effectively harvest your personal information without keeping all of your email?
In Mail, the All Mail label is mapped to the Archive mailbox.  And, as it is set up, moving a Gmail to the Trash really "archives" it instead of moving it to the Trash mailbox, as Google wants.
This all worked the same in previous versions of Mail, but Mail did not show you the "All Mail" Label.

  • Sent mail does not display!

I'm on OS 10.3.9 and using mail 1.3.11 About 3 months ago, all my outgoing sent mail stopped displaying. when I click the sent tab, the list of mails sent will display but when i highlight any of them the contents of the mail isn't there. This is the message I get "The message from <[email protected]> concerning “Fwd: Okay...here you are” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." Ok, I've already contacted everyone else (hosting company, internet provider etc) and everything seems fine on their end. Everyone seems to feel it is my mail client problem. I feel it's very important to have documented records of the mail I've sent and now I've lost that. Please help!!

  • Sent mail is not being received

Some of my emails use my me.com account are not being received by the recipient.
The emails show being SENT in my SENT box.

I have a similar but perhaps unrelated problem. Every now and then, I send an email on my gmail account using Mail. The sent mail appears in my sent box, but never arrives, and does not appear in my webmail sent box (where it usually does, using gmail). Most of the time it works, and it even works most of the time with people it has had a problem with, including mail I send to myself at work at my professional address. Usually arrives...but not always. I don't know how to trust my sent mail box without always going on the webmail to make sure it actually went out. I only have this problem when using the Mail application, but there are no other common characteristics (attachements, ISPs, etc) to say there could be a problem with one of those things. Anyone else have this problem?

  • Sent Mail Vanished

I'm using 10.4.5. I updated from 10.3.9 a few weeks ago. Everything was working just fine until this morning. I had left my computer on for several hours. I saw that I had a notice telling me that Mail couldn't check my POP account at Gmail. This seems to happen a lot. I have Mail set to auto check for both Gmail and Earthlink POP accounts every 10 minutes. I could not clear the notice. Mail had crashed (frozen.) I force quit Mail. On relaunch everything seemed OK, but a few hours later I noticed that the only "Sent" mail copies remaining in my Sent folder were the ones sent today. There were originally over 500 emails in that folder. The ones I sent today were simply text replies - no large attachments.
I checked User>Library>Mail>EarthlinkPOP account>Sent Messages.mbox. That folder is 80MB. The contents names (and size) are :
    tableofcontents (2MB)
    Messages (112KB folder)
    IncomingTable_ofContents (4K)
    mbox (77.7MB)
    content_index (148K)
    Info.plist (4K)
    Incoming_Mail (52K)
It appears that the info is still there. Mail just can't seem to see it.
    G4/1.6   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I have just been going through them and the oldest I have 23 June does not have the emails on it.
My ealier time machine backup became corrupted and kept giving me kernel panics, so I had to delete it. I now run three time machine backups but the earliest of those is 23 June.
I have booted up an old mac, disconnected it from the internet and launched mail on it. This one has emails up to august 2011 on it, so I quickly copied them into a new mailbox, so I "only" have August 2011 to date now missing.
But why have Apple deleted all my emails? If I knew this was a possiblility I would have made several copies!

  • Unable to view sent mail content

Has anybody had the problem of not being able to view sent mail content in the sent mailbox? When a message is selected from list, the message "The message from XXXXXXX <[email protected]> concerning “title” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." when I try to view a sent message. This issue applies to all the sent messages in the sent mailbox, I can see a complete list of messages, just not the content?

If this is a POP account and you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), as your profile indicates, you probably have the problem described here:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
If you’re just starting to experience the problem, doing what the article suggests might work. If you’ve let the problem to become worse over time, however, it may be too late to solve it as described in the article.
Because of the differences between Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, further discussing your problem here might confuse other users with apparently similar problems running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), so please start a new topic in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum, or just look for other threads discussing the same problem there. This is actually a FAQ in that forum.

  • ICloud not showing sent mail from my iMac

Hi all, if I go to iCloud mail and send an email the recipient receives it. However it doesn't show up in my iCloud sent mail. There is sent mail present but that looks to be just emails sent from my BB or iPad. While researching this issue I found this : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3390316 So I went to Mail and yes that "store sent mail on server" was not checked. I then checked it as implied in the above link, but the sent emails still do not show up. Could anyone advise please? TIA, Terry.

I am currently running Mail.app on ML.
My Mail.app and iCloud webmail settings were already congruent with those recommended regarding saving a copy of the Sent emails [Store sent mail upon the iCloud server].
Despite this being the case, I have found that Sent messages were not been getting saved reliably in Mail.app or upon the iCloud webmail interface.
Some did get saved though - rather odd.
I don't want to call my reported email problem as fixed but it seems hardly coincidental to me that once I had chosen to unflag Store deleted messages [Trash section] upon the iCloud mail server that such messages as were sent form my two iCloud addresses messages began to be saved reliably.
Surely this is indicative of some underlying misconfiguration with the iCloud server itself as Trash messages clearly aren't Sent messages and yet messages only began to be reliably saved once I had chosen to unflag Store deleted messages. As previously stated, I already had my mailbox behaviours set to Store Sent messages upon the iCloud server, but this proved to be of no avail until I chose to unflag Store deleted messages.
See attached picture for Mailbox Behaviours.
