Messages is acting up after cloning iMac to MacBook Pro

I got a new SSD for my MacBook Pro. The previous install was having some problems and I wanted to make sure all the important stuff from my iMac was on it and then trim down from there. So I cloned the iMac to the MacBook Pro's new SSD and everything went fine. Except for a strange problem with messages.
Both computers are signed into iCloud in the messages app and set to receive messages at all the correct addresses. But, only one of the computers will do it at a time. I'll sign out and sign back in to iCloud in the Messages Accounts windows, and then it will work receiving iPhone and Non-iPhone messages. But, when I go back to the other computer, that computer will have stopped receiving messages. I can sign out and sign back in and it will work, but the other computer will stop receiving messages.
Both computers, regardless of whether they are receiving messages, are able to send them no problem. It seems like maybe both computers think they're the same machine.
Any idea how can I go about resolving this?

Setup Assistant is quick and accurate with getting the appropriate data and applications from an old Mac.
It far safer then a clone.
Once you run Setup Assistant, the new Mac will appears just like the old Mac.
The only thing is the simpliest way to do it is on first startup.
If you fail to do it then you have to go poking around in preference files to rest things.

  • IPhoto not working after trying to share iPhoto between iMac and MacBook Pro

I tried to share my photos on both my iMac and MacBook pro. It deleted all my photos in my MacBook and now it won't let me even open iPhoto in my iMac and gives me the following message "You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
How do I rectify this? Purchase iPhoto from the App store?

What version of iPhoto do you have on each system?
It sound like you propbably have a newer version of iPhoto on the MBP - and thay you opened the iMac iPhoto library using the newer iPhoto - if you did you were warned that doing this would convert the library and that the older version of iPhoto could no longer open the library - the error message you list says that this is what you did
If you did the only options are to restore your iMac backup from before you converted the library, upgrade iPhoto on the iMac the same version you have on your MBP purchasing from the App store or use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  to downgrade your library

  • ITunes Store wont load on my iMac or Macbook Pro

After updating iTunes to the latest version, 11.1.1, on both my iMac and Macbook Pro I have not been able to log in and view my account details. I also had trouble downloading previous purchases. I had to quit the program 3 times and re-download the purchased items just to get them into my library. When I do attempt to log into my account area to view details, the Grey box at the top of the screen just says "Accessing iTunes Store" with the spinning bar for about thirty (30) seconds then it just goes Grey with the Apple Logo in the center and never pulls up my information?
Is anyone else having this same issue? And has anyone figured out a work around?

    Hey danny1507,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with iTunes for Windows. The following resource may help to resolve your issue:

  • Connection failures between iMac and Macbook Pro

I'm experiencing frequent connection failures over my wi-fi network between my iMac and Macbook Pro on an otherwise strong, stable network. I can connect both of my computers to the Airport Time Capsule that I use as my wireless router without a problem, but for some reason I get connection failures between the computers say, 50% of the time. Sometimes it works fine, others it just hangs before giving me an error message. Any suggestions?
    OS 10.9.3 on both machines
    Apple Airport Extreme Time Capsule
    iMac, 3.06GHz i3 (2010)
Macbook Pro Retina, 2.4 GHz i7 (1st Gen)

    Hi jt in nyc,
    Some checks:
Use Airport Utility on one of the machines
    - Click on the Time Capsule ( enter password if prompted )
    - Click on the Edit button
Under Airport Utility -> Wireless -> Wireless Options
Are the Time Capsule Wireless options set correctly?
    - Country -> you know this, change if it is not
    - 2.4GHz and 5GHz Channel set to Automatic
    - Click on Cancel button to return to the Airport Utility graphic diagram.
    - Click on the Time Capsule
    - Click on your machines listed beside wireless clients
Are the machines reporting an excellent quality at different distances from the Time Machine?

  • Home sharing iMac and MacBook Pro: not all songs are playable

    Hello
I set up Home Sharing between my iMac and MacBook Pro so that I could stream the music that's on the iMac to the MacBook Pro. On the MBP there are no songs, all of them are in Apple Lossless format on my iMac. I first tried to use "‘share my library on my local network" but because I wanted the play count to go up as well I chose for "Home Sharing". Setting up was simple. After all preferences were adjusted, I opened iTunes on the MBP and it immediately found the shared iMac library. There's now only one problem: not all songs are playable. Some don't even start. How is this possible and what do I need to do to resolve this?
FYI: the iMac is connected via ethernet to my cable modem which sends a wireless Wi-Fi signal to the MBP. Signal quality is excellent.
Also, is it possible that playcount is only available with Home Sharing and not with "share my library on my local network"?
    Thanks!

It very well could be the antivirus app, most are intrusive and debilitate rather than enhance performance and should be removed using the developers instructions. You haven't really told us anything useful such as any settting you may have changed. However if you began working backwards resetting any changes and uninstalling the apps added since the performance issue started then you probably will find your issue.

  • Using iMac and MacBook Pro both running OS 10.7.5

Is there an easy way to have my "sent" emails (using Apple Mail) from my iMac also show up as "sent" email from my Macbook Pro?
Using iMac and MacBook Pro both running OS 10.7.5

Yes, if you have an IMAP account. From the Mail menu bar, select
Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Store sent messages on the server

  • Connecting iMac and MacBook Pro using a non-Apple wireless router

I use a Belkin wireless router. Is there any way for me to connect iMac and MacBook Pro using the router to share files? I think I read somewhere that I need AirPort Extreme for this, but I'm not sure. Thank you.

Great resource from Dennis...file sharing, I.e. networking, is a function of the operating system settings and not the brand of router. Using Mac OS X 10.6 on both machines makes it really seamless. Following Dennis's kb article should make the two almost act like one machine.

  • IMac and Macbook Pro WoW gaming

    Hi!
I currently own a macbook, and I need to upgrade if I want to play WoW in a decent quality.
However, I could NOT find any decent information about performance on the new iMac and Macbook Pro machines.
Would it be possible that if any owner that plays WoW could set graphics to Highest possible settings and post their frames per second in Dalaran for example? Mac details and specs would be very appreciated, specially for the graphics card.
Maybe this is not the place for this post, but I hope someone help me out on this. =)
    Thanks!

The server and type of connection are also important. I get pretty bad latency over WiFi, for example, and the Gul Dan server has been really slow of late. I have 20M down / 5M up to the house and 801.11g router. With my 2007 MBP over wireless (good connection), I generally get in the mid 40's to 50's in the Outlands, but got 6 when I logged in last night (by the time I logged out, it had crept up to about 35).
On my 2007 24" iMac (C2D w/ the NVidia option -- last of the white models), I generally get 100-110 at 1900x1200 -- and that's using 100Mbps ethernet to the switch plugged into the ONT.

Yes. After you purchase the season pass go to iTunes and pull down Store > Check for Available downloads.

  • Data Migration from iMac to MacBook Pro Issues

    Hello!
I purchased a MacBook Pro and immediately began the data transfer through the Migration Assistant. Twelve hours later, it is at a screen saying "canceling migration", which it has been stuck on for five hours. I shut down my MacBook Pro and the iMac, and attempted to start the process over again. It appears that the data in fact did transfer, so I skipped the step asking me to transfer my data. Now I am at the screen to create my account, and it will not let me choose my full name or account name (due to that account information already being transfered over). That is the only account I would like to use, not any new account. I am unsure how to get around this step, any advice?
    Thanks!

I just bought a MacBook Pro and am trying to use MA to migrate stuff from my iMac (Intel, OSX 10.4.11) to my MacBook Pro (Intel, OSX 10.6.3).
Problem is, every time I try ("from" iMac "to" MacBook Pro), my iMac IDs my MacBook Pro and asks for the passcode, I give it, it then asks for the passcode again, I give it again, then it churns away with the message that it's "looking for other computers". On and on and on and gets stuck in this mode.
I'm using ethernet between the two. Tried wireless also. Same issue. Downloaded the Migration & DVD/CD Sharing Update onto the iMac; it's already on the MacBook Pro. Same problem persists.
Any suggestions? (among the ten zillion firewire cables I have, none fits the MacBook Pro, so haven't tried firewire yet).
    Thanks.

  • Dragging from iMac to Macbook Pro

I'm trying to copy some files between my iMac and Macbook Pro using Finder. The files are both owned by the same user, and I'm dragging between identically named folders. The files do NOT exist on the MBP when I start this operation.
When I try this operation, the first thing that occurs is that I am asked to enter my password, which has never occurred before (I just replaced my old Macbook with the MBP, which is the only change since I last tried to copy files from one system to the other). Okay, maybe this is due to the fact that the user numbers don't match (I'm user 501 on the iMac, user 503 on the MBP thanks to a Migration Assistant battle), so I go ahead and enter my password.
The next thing that happens is I get a dialog that says "A new item named "blah" already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the older one you're moving?" When I started the copy, "blah" did NOT exist on the MBP - it was created sometime after I began the copy. The file is empty on the MBP, so I click the Replace button.
I now get a new dialog that says "The operation can' be completed because an item with the name "" already exists." Note that the filename is apparently an empty string. At this point, I have no choice but to click OK. The copy is terminated, and I'm left with an empty file named "blah" on the MBP.

It turns out I can drag something from the remote system to the local system (i.e., Macbook Pro to iMac if I'm sitting at the iMac), but not from the local system to the remote system.

WD My Passport 1TB USB external drive randomly ejects from my iMac and MacBook Pro.
The drive is approximately 4 years old.  When the drive is plugged in, I can see the data.  It appears to be working properly.  The only problem is that everyone of my Apple Machines are ejecting it.   Several years ago, this drive connected to Mac machines with no problems.   I have tried two separate USB cords.  I have updated the firmware.  I have tried it on my MacBook, two different Macbook Pro's, and my iMac.
All give the same result of random ejection of the drive and the error message of:
    Disk Not Ejected Properly
Eject "1TB Passport HD" before disconnecting or turning......
Searching through the web, it seems this is an common/known problem.   Does anyone know the solution?
    Thanks,

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

    You don't.
Need a internal optical drive and the Hardware Test on disks is old and outdated anyway.
Your machine has lasted a long time, congratulations, they usually only last about 4-5 years.
They get clogged up with dust and overheat, kills the video card, there is nothing you can do as it's hardware damage over time.
