Messages is gone

I got home today and got a message on Messages or IMessage and the Messages app would not open i restarted my computer and it had a question mark as the icon for the app. Help!?!?!
I then serached for the messages app in launch pad and spotlight and i can not find it is seems it has just dissapeered!!!!!! PLease HELP!!!!

The ? mark in the DOCK where the app should be may mean the DOCK has lost contact with the app and the links that launch the app are broken.
You say you have looked in the Launch pad.
Did you look in the Applications Folder itself ?
Either select it in the Side Bar of a Finder window or open the Hard Drive icon and chose Applications.
If it is there then drag the Current icon off the DOCK and let go (Puff of Smoke animation) the drag the app from the Applications folder to the DOCK.
This does not move the Application but does create the DOCK icon and the lins that launch the app.
In the Launch Pad dragging one app over another will create a Folder which may not be clear as to it's contents.
However as Spotlight do not find it the Reinstall may be your only option.

Group messaging simply puts all replies in one conversation in Messages. It doesn't prevent the behavior you experienced.
My suggestion which would be much easier in my opinion, is rather than do a text, send out an email and use bcc: , which will keep the audience hidden from each recipient.
Otherwise, if you're determinted to do only texts, the only way is to send your message to one person at a time. You can of course copy/paste your msg each time which might be helpful.

All my Sent Messages are gone!

I have all my Sent messages locally on my laptop, as well as on .Mac; around 700-800 messages. Yesterday, all was well. Today, I tried to access a mail I had send earlier and Mail said something with the mail not being accessible offline and that I had to set the mailbox to ONLINE. Right, that was not possible, as ONLINE was grayed out. I set it to OFFLINE and then set it to ONLINE.
Now, all but three messages are gone! I don't see them on .Mac and they are not on my laptop, I think.
Can somebody please help me with this very big problem?

Beside your inbox and Sent folders (on the right side) is there a triangle?
If there is, click the triangle to go "online"
If it is not there, and you did have messages for awhile, I suggest trying the rebuild option if you haven't already done so. You can do that by click on Mailbox -> Rebuild
Alternatively (if this is an IMAP account), you could delete the account and re-add it.

This happened to me also, a few days ago... I went to look at pics that were sent from just one person, all the other photos that people texted are there during same time period. It is only this one contacts several photos that disappeared... There is an arrow when I click on it it goes to a blank page?!? Have you received any feedback or answers?? Did your photos that are missing come from only one person or multiple? If you have any information that might help let me know!!! I really want them back!! Thanks much!

Deleted messages are gone after 2 weeks!

After I delete my message, it goes to the trash. I have changed the preference to go to the new folder and not automatically delete the messages after 30 days, but they are not working. My messages are gone after 2 weeks and not in any folder. Please help!

Welcome to the Apple community.
Have you checked the settings and preferences on all your devices that sync your mail, if your mail is set to be removed after two weeks on any device, then that action will be synced across all of them.

Nokia C6 messages are gone

I have a problem with my phone. I bought it about 7 months ago, and this morning when I turned it on, all my messages were gone. I noticed because I received a message from Nokia saying I could get a game for free..
I didn't change anything about my settings before I turned it off, and didn't delete all the messages myself. It is supposed to store my messages on my phone memory, and there are some really important ones on it (from my deceased aunt) so I really want to get them back.
What should I do? I'm afraid to try anything because that might reset my phone and that would mean they would be gone forever..
(Something else, which might be useful in this case: My phone frequently made so called
"scheduled backups" which I have never set myself, is there any way my messages have been backupped as well? And were can I find these backups?)

you need to log onto ovi suite to see if the messages are there if they have vanished which is odd they are most likely gone unless they are on ovi,you should back up on a regular basis in future.
where are you saving the messages?

5800 xpress music messaging has gone very slow aft...

I’m using 6233 with firmware 5.60 and latest PC-Suite.
I can’t activate email settings, when I try to select Menu > Messaging > Message settings > Email messages.
Email messages is gone.
I have run Nokia Software Updater Setup and reinstall firmware 3 times.
My provider has activate Email and I have create an POP3 E-mail account in Personal configuration.

If you did not back up your device after that, restore from the latest backup, messages are part of the backup.

Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking bar, tap & hold any icon until they all start to wiggle, tap the red minus sign & close every app listed, tap home button when finished. Then reset your phone:
Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.

Email randomly not sending, no error message, Email GONE

This has happened multiple times, seemingly at random, and it is EXTREMELY frustrating.
I will compose my email, hit send, I get the 'whoosh' sound, little spinning wheel next to the Wifi/LTE logo, etc., and... nothing. The email never arrives, it's not in my sent folder, it's like it never existed. It's just GONE. The only way I can tell if a message has sent or not is to go check my sent folder every time. I had some pretty important emails get eaten like this before I even figured out it was happening, which I'm sure you can imagine did nothing good for my reputation.
It has happened with big emails and small emails, emails sent from several different accounts, and it seems to happen about 30% of the time. I can't figure out any pattern to it. I'm watching the wheel turn now after 15 minutes of waiting for a 2MB message to send (4 photos at "large" compression and 2 medium paragraphs of text), so it seems like it's trying to send, but I don't see a drafts or outbox folder anywhere. My Wifi connection is fine and other apps on my phone are loading data quickly and easily.
I just quit Mail and the email is officially gone. No more spinning wheel, nothing in any of my sent folders (I checked them all).
The fact that it works sometimes and not others seems to suggest my settings are correct. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried removing the mail account and adding it back? Is this the only email account you have on the device?

Hi! I was browsing my facebook account when my iphone 3G restarted on its own. The apple icon appeared and when the "restarting" process was over, I lost all my installed apps, the contents of my phonebook were gone, all text meassages saved were also gone. It was as if I had a new phone again. I am really lost now and I don't know if there is a way of retrieving my contacts and my messages. Please help me if you have encountered this same problem before. This is the first time I had a problem with my phone and now everything is gone without a warning.

I upgraded to OS5 yesterday and all my contacts including names, email addresses, and phone numbers have been deleted. When I tried to revert to a previous back up, the only one was the one that was done right before I downloaded the new OS. All other previous backups were gone. In addition, I bought 40.00 worth of extra storage space to back up to iCloud and had to start it over several times before it finally worked...25 hours later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am MAD that the new OS download procedure deleted EVERYTHING in my contacts. The only thing that remains are my favorited phone numbers but none of them are labeled so I have no idea who anyone is except I sort of know where some people were on the list. This is HORRIBLE and so far I've seen hundreds of these exact kinds of posts all over the Net, not just here on the Apple website. I've done everything I could on my own and tried several things that have been suggested by other Apple users here in the forum. Nothing has worked and evidently nothing was saved to my iCloud storage, either. Now I'm having to pay for a 1pm phone call with tech support that I'm sure will cost me a freaking fortune to tell me that I'm screwed-and that'll be 75.00, please.

Sent messages are gone (you can call me an idiot)

I installed extra RAM in my iBook G4 about 2 weeks ago. Since then everything has sort of been acting up, especially Mail, Safari, and Photoshop, as they quit frequently.
But my obvious main concern here is Mail. I looked up other user forums on the Internet and found that if you delete your .plist mail file that it would help with this problem. I did it for Safari first and it seemed to help, so I then did it for Mail. I deleted the .plist, restarted, and was in shock when I opened my Mail to see everything gone.
Now, I realize this is a lame mistake. However, I figured out how to restore my messages, preferences, etc. I have been working fine until tonight when I tried to access previous sent messages. Instead of showing the message, there is an error message that reads:
"The message from Nancy Randle <[email protected]> concerning “Re: a favor” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
The only thing I can think of is that it has reverted to the new account I created to archive saved messages. Is there a way for me to revert back? Is there a way to find these messages? I have tried to find them in my Library, but with no luck.
My biggest concern is with my sent messages, but if anyone has any advice on the RAM install, that would be (OH!) so helpful.
Anything would be greatly appreciated.

did you backup the home/library/mail folder before you trashed the .plist ?
If you did - the old messages can be recovered.
If not - & you've searched the mail folder in vain for your sent messages - then short of some data recovery software - they're gone.
But the new account you created - is it exactly the same ( mail server & user name ) as your old one? if not, your messages may still be available.
Look in home/library/mail/mailboxes for a folder that matches the old account details ( if a pop server it will be 'POP-your username@your mailserver')
If the folder is there - in addition to the folder for the new account you made - then you're probably in luck.
Make a copy of the whole mail folder first, & the mail.plist file.
In mail - Create a new account with exactly the same details as the one that vanished.
select the inbox or sent folder for the account you just made
choose mail-mailbox-rebuild
If that doesn't do it, but you find the missing messages within the mail folder - they can still be recovered. Let us know how you get on.
if things go screwy while you do this - quit mail & in finder replace the mail folder & plist file with the backup copies you made before you started. start mail again & you should be back where you were.
Regarding the RAM - barring coincidences, it sounds like a ram problem. Double check that all the ram is physically located properly & try again. If you still have problems - remove the new ram. If the problems go away, the new ram is either faulty or incompatible.

After backup...newer text messages are gone. why?

I have a complicated problem. I had an iphone 5. It was a prepaid number. I dropped it and the screen was black. I plugged it up and recharged it...tried to reset it and still just black screen. I could hear the alerts and it would ring but I couldn't answer it. I had backed it up about a month ago. Well my father got me a new iphone 6 and added me to his verizon plan. They gave me a new number but when I put in my apple id and password, my contacts showed up and a couple of pictures. Well today, I hooked up my new phone to my laptop and it loaded all the stuff...photos, texts,wallpaper...to my new phone. But my problem is that I had some new text messages just from this past week of using my new phone and now they are gone. I had some texts from my son who just went to boot camp a couple weeks ago that I really want back....is there anyway I can get those? Why did they go away? Is there anything I can do? After updating to iOS7 and restoring my phone from backup, my text messages are still gone. How can I fix this? Right before I updated to iOS7 I backed up my phone. After the update was complete, my phone had none of my information on it so I restored it from back up which says "Restoring from backup will not change the firmware, but will restore pictures, contacts, calendars, text messages, etc." So I am confused as to why it isn't working. I tried twice and everything came back except text messages. This isn't the first time I've had this happen after updating my phone but I'm tired of dealing with this issue. Can anyone tell me how to get my text messages back or what I did wrong?

Help ;( photos in message thread gone

Having real major problems with my iphone 3gs 4.3.5. Yesterday my phone started freezing so i pressed the home button along with the lock button, everything ok. When the phone came back on, it took me ages to get into my messages, when I finally got in I noticed one of the message threads from my friend had all the videos and pictures we sent all gone. There is a blue arrow to show where the pictures should be but there are no pictures. Im really upset cos that is 10months of photos gone, fair enough you can call me sad but I really value those pictures. All my other photos on the camera roll are ok and are saved on my itunes account and on the main computer hard drive. Can anyone please help?????? I back-up my phone religiously so just wondering if this is a bug, my phone does freeze a lot and I do shut down my apps, turn my wi-fi off, lower the brightness etc but it still freezes. I've also noticed this has happened to a few other people, so Apple would really need to sort it before I consider another phone to use. I love my iphone though.

what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
what fixes have you tried?
where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
